Really wonderful experience having the omakase at the sushi bar. Every staff member was gracious, attentive and kind. The fish was incredible, creative but still true to its flavor. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place and it is a star amongst my NYC sushi dining experiences (and globally, frankly, including many trips to Japan).

I shouldn't write this review...and jinx future seating availability. But I must, since all small business owners know how crucial positive experiences are. So I'm going to tell you: PAY ATTENTION! This restaurant is AMAZING! We were seated upstairs, in an area of this tranquil establishment that has a 4 top separated from the other tables. Rough-hewn timber and thankfully comfortable seating...we anticipated that something special was about to happen. Omikase Sushi, and Sashimi...oh my! One taste after another, super delicious, very buttery, artfully placed. Our server, quietly attentive. Delicous unfiltered sake, such heaven. The bill, gentle -considering the quality we just feasted on. As we leave, we are shown the lower level sushi bar, with four chef creators working behind a fully supplied counter display. Outstanding! Bravo! So lucky to have this in our neighborhood!! You're welcome :)

Sushi culture has proliferated but not everyone gets to eat the sushi for the select few. Hidden in the basement of a restaurant lies Sushi Nonaka with expert Sishi chefs from Tokyo that can offer spectacular selections of sashimi and sushi dishes, varieties not available in normal sushi restaurants. Try and let the chef prepare for you the course "omakase" which will delight your culinary senses.

Having been there once before and had a great experience, we decided to given their delivery service a try last night. And it was really worthwhile. The packaging and presentation were beautiful and done with care. The quality and craftsmanship of the nigiris were great, not an easy feat considering that the food had to travel a ways. High quality + reasonable pricing for sushi in NYC = great value.

Not one to write reviews but such a wonderful Omakase - hidden gem. Super friendly service and what a special meal. Sat at the sushi bar alone and had one of the best meals I've had in NYC (and I adore eating out). Naturally, excellent quality fish.

Sushi Nonaka deserves a glowing 5-star review for its outstanding omakase, impeccable service and warm ambience. For an immersive culinary adventure, secure a spot at the sushi bar downstairs. The chef has a good sense of humor and had us smiling between bites. The freshness of the fish further elevates the entire experience, making Sushi Nonaka a top-tier choice for sushi enthusiasts. Make sure to ask for the sharkskin flounder—it's a hidden gem if in season!

I’m impressed that the restaurant is able to scale up a sushi omakase experience. When I arrived at 8:30pm on a Friday, the sushi bar seated 6 people but the courtyard out back was packed, easily a dozen tables which caught me a bit off guard. I tempered my expectations. The food was surprisingly good. The rice a tad too sweet but the ratio to fish was right.

7.5/10 I enjoyed the food. I prefer other places more. I find their pricing high. It is very fresh sushi but I left somewhat hungry spending $300 without beverages.

Best Omakase in NYC! Tbh, I’m kinda afraid of giving them 5 stars because I don’t want people to find them out, as I’m selfishly glad they are always able to accommodate my husband and I for an experience at the chef’s counter at anytime. Their seafood is always fresh, and the Omakase is creative and delicious, without being presumptuous. The chef Yuzi is a delight, always very helpful and attentive to our needs. The owner of the place is also very lovely, and frequently pays a visit to our table (counter) when she’s at the restaurant. I’ve been there countless time and would continue to do so if I hadn’t left NYC. Can’t recommend them highly enough!

Second time here and everytime I come is a different experience. Best Omakase I ever had. I ordered the Omakase at the Chef's Counter which is (220$ per person) it is worth it. Apart from the Omakase I ordered a few more a la carte items because it was too good to leave without having some more... To drink I had a bottle of Sake ( Hakkaisan/Yukimuro Junmai Ginjo Snow Aged) 160$ after this was done, I got another type of sake (Heiwa/KID Junmai Daiginjo) Medium sized which was 65$. Overall I really recommend this place. The experience is worth everything. I have to mention that at the end we received a gift which was Japanese Fried chicken and as simple as it sounds it will surprise you how good it was. Ps. They have a variety of desserts. I had the strawberry cheesecake it was so good, but I forgot to take pictures..

Great kosher-style omakase, including some very reasonably priced options. It is highly recommended. Absolutely stunning, accommodating, and delicious.

Exquisite omakase in a wonderful atmosphere. I like to try new places but it’s going to be hard to go anywhere else after experiencing this. The fish was perfection and, from what I understand, a bargain. The gentlemen next to me were from Tokyo and RAVED about the restaurant, saying it was honestly better than omakase there. My only regret is that I couldn’t stay all night!

We had a wonderful experience eating at the sushi bar at Sushi Nonaka. The severs and sushi chefs were incredibly nice and helpful. We had the chefs special omakase menu, all of the sashimi and sushi was fresh and delicious. I would absolutely come back the next time we are in town, and recommend it to anyone who loves sushi.

Literally impeccable on all aspects. Sushi was beautiful. Fish was super fresh. The service was absolutely unreal! I think every staff member thanked us and said goodbye when we were leaving. That’s how every restaurant should be!! I will definitely be coming back. It’s worth the bit of extra money to have such an amazing experience.

Amazing Omakase on the upper west side with a special cozy outdoor space/area in the back. The sushi to die for. You feel that you are in a Japanese restaurant in Tokyo. We just love it!

It was good. However, we came a little later in the evening around 8, and were there for over 2.5 hours. I feel the prices are a little high.

Newly opened for lunch! Ordered the Pork Katsu set for $16. I was very happy with the quality of food i received. Awesome deal for a beautiful bento box with freshly fried pork cutlet and delicious sides. Great service as well. Will be back soon!

We had a lovely meal at the sushi bar here. The kind of place you wish you could go every night. Excellent service start to finish. Sushi was the star of the show for me. The fish was delicious and the rice was airy and had a wonderful texture. Desert was a little surprise also, delicate and flavorful.
