Update review. The owner added non vegan options to cater to those people who aren’t vegan. This place used to be all vegan now it’s not. There’s a few vegan options left. A lot of the food I enjoyed aren’t on the menu anymore. One of the servers brought me what’s left of the old menu and I was able to order something familiar. I wish they kept the vegan menu they had before and just had a separate menu. You still get a big portion for the entre, but no more of the pick 3 options. I guess I can take my non vegan friends here for since they cater to them now too.

Klare Empfehlung. Ein Besuch lohnt sich. Außerdem ist es auch nicht sehr günstig. 3 Vorspeisen, 2 Getränke und 2 Hauptgerichte für nur 68 Dollar.

We intended to go to a restaurant 2-3 lots down the road but it was packed and we didn't want to wait. So we walked back here and decided to try. We were impressed with the food and the service. Unbelievable that it was not busy. The background music was calm and we could have a conversation. We enjoyed our dinner here so much and would definitely come back again. Went back the second time and the waiter remembered us right away which is impressive.

This is an authentic Shanghainese restaurant that serves many iconic dishes, including both steamed and pan-fried soup dumplings. The owner and chef are Shanghainese, and the restaurant has cute Shanghai-themed decorations. As someone who grew up in Shanghai and stopped eating meat in my teenage years, it’s always exciting to find *good* vegetarian renditions of my favorite childhood dishes. It’s not easy to find vegetarian soup dumplings as they traditionally rely on gelatin for the soup which is inherently not vegetarian, so their juicy vegetarian soup dumplings are worth ordering for the novelty alone. The pan friend soup buns were really good (not vegetarian) - and very juicy! When my partner bit into it the juice even hit my leg - very good sign! The service was great - the employees were very friendly and accommodating. We’ll be back for sure! Not many people when we went on a Friday night (can’t understand why because the food is great) so you can probably walk in easily without a reservation.

Their food is a joke. I ordered Dandan mian and scallion oil noodles. Take a look at the pictures. The size is site size, no flavor whatsoever and of course no real ingredients other than soy sauce and oil and salt

This is the BEST and most underrated food establishment in all of NYC - no exaggeration. I used to live in NYC and go all the time and now every time I visit it is a MUST. One (of many) highlights is the vegan buffalo “wings” which have the most satisfying texture and a sauce that is truly like nothing else I have found (and trust me, I’ve looked) - the atmosphere of the restaurant is top notch, never too crowded, everyone that works there is delightful and I am shocked that more people don’t know about this place. 11/10 every time, cannot recommend Go Zen enough

Wow! Came here for Jan 1st lunch and discovered that behind their unassuming storefront is some of the tastiest vegan food in NYC. We ordered the miso eggplant, the mushroom soup, wonton soup, soup dumplings, and tofu veg delight. Every dish was excellent and well-prepared. No overpowering sauces or overcooked vegetables. Just a nice array of fresh, wonderful flavors. Oh, and the service was extremely friendly and welcoming. We’ll be back!

Very nice little Asian restaurant with vegan food. The food tastes amazing and the portions are big (Not bodybuilder big) and the price is very reasonable and fair. The staff is very nice, courteous and kind. We would love to come again. Highly recommended.

I always enjoy a non meat dish. This was sesame Sietan and kale. I had it with a side order of rice. All very good.

Okay, this is place lives up to its name. Such a sweet and peaceful environment, and the staff were absolute sweethearts! I wasn’t expecting so many options to choose from but I have no doubt that everything else on the menu, is just as delicious as what I ordered. I got the No. 2 House Super Combo: the Beijing Seitan and it was amazing! The portions are fantastic and that baked meat pastry was such a nice little treat! Their beef with broccoli also brought me back to the classic Chinese takeout dish. I’m looking forward to going back, and trying those crispy mushroom caps!

I have been wanting to try soup dumplings for as long as I remember. I couldn’t find any halal soup dumplings in nyc. BUT BUT BHAAT!! I finally had them today and it was gooood 😍 Loved the music they played and the feeling of not being concerned about the halal/ haram ingredients! We just savored the food! 🥰 We also got wonton soup which was delish, soy cashee saute and sweet sour devine!! It was devine indeed! Go Vegan Go! ! 👊

My brother and I were looking for a place to grab some vegan food for dinner, and this spot came up. This place has an cozy, intimate vibe that is lacking in many restaurants these days. The service was great, the food came quickly. My water glass was literally never empty, which was awesome. My brother got the sesame seitan, and I got the vege beef and broccoli. We shared both, and also shared steamed dumplings, and some rice paper sprout rolls. The food was excellent. The prices are ridiculously fair. There was enough for us to take home as well. There's a bit of everything on the menu too, so whether you want light fare, or something a bit heartier, you won't come up empty handed. Definitely will go back, there's so many things on the menu that I need to try.

Authentic newly-opened Shanghainese restaurant in the west village. The owner and kitchen all speak Shanghainese. Not only you can find popular dishes like Xiao long bao and pan fried pork bun, there are many other less known dishes like “small dumplings”. Service is warm and vibe is casual.

Go Zen is one of the best vegan restaurants around. There Pad Thai, sesame dish, and cheesecake are great. I will say that there Pad Thai is either the best or one of the best Pad Thais I have ever eaten whether it be vegan or not. The same goes for the cheesecake. Prices are reasonable about 13 per person, just with entrees. Keep in mind their dishes are made to be shared. The reason why I love their food so much is that the chef doesn’t cheat. The chef doesn’t use a huge amount of salt or sugar or oil to make you love the dish. The balance of flavors is blended just right so that you are hitting all the notes. For example, the cheesecake has an extremely creamy body that is sweet, but not too sweet. The raspberry on top gives it a little extra kick, while the decorative cream in the back is not so much decorative, but a fundamental element to the whole dish. Honestly, I think some people don’t go in because it is not crowded inside. In my opinion, you should just take that as getting to eat some of the best food without the wait.

I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. I had a stomach ache for 3 DAYS AFTER EATING HERE. I’m otherwise very healthy and don’t experience that on the regular. The service is not welcoming or friendly, the staff seem upset all the time. The food is all FROZEN and simply dumped into a deep fryer when you order it. (Confirmed by the employees) NOTHING IS MADE FRESH OR FROM SCRATCH ON THIS MENU. Upsetting to say the least seeing as we need more vegan restaurants. As a vegan myself I would love to say anything good about this place but the plates have hair and dust particles on them And the kitchen from view of the hallway is not clean and looks very dingy and not well maintained. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND PEACE OF MIND.

I really like the vegetarian dim sum options. They have vegetarian soup dumplings. The soy sheets were my favourite though. The owner is very nice

Good place. If not for the loud people talking next to me, it would truly be Zen - the music was very relaxing and the lights were dim. I had the dumplings and the Shanghai Seitan. Portions were decently sized but I was disappointed to find out that the main dish didn’t come with rice so I had to order that separately. I don’t think I’ve ever been to an Asian restaurant where the dish didn’t come with a side lol. Just a heads up, if you are a mushroom lover like me, don’t order the Shanghai Seitan, order the Oyster mushrooms with Chinese broccoli down the menu instead - they’re basically the same dish but one has seitan, and I only got two pathetic little pieces of mushrooms buried at the bottom under all the seitan and Chinese broccoli lol. The seitan was way too dry for my taste but it may be because I’m not used to eating fried foods. I will definitely give this place another shot. Overall I enjoyed it as the food wasn’t overly salty or overly oily. Ginger Root on the Upper East Side is still my favorite spot for pan Asian food, but I think Go Zen will be alright for when I don’t have the time to go all the way up there. UPDATE: Apparently this place is under new name and management now and apparently not 100% vegan anymore? Eww. The animals out there are only like 49% dead now, thanks guys!

HORRIBLE. Never coming back. Extremely slow service. Orders confused between tables several times. Plates changed around between patrons. The food isn’t great. The place is small and will get super noisy to the point you can’t hear across the table. It’s also boiling hot or freezing cold.

One of the best Asian vegan spots in New York. Wide variety of choices. Ingredients seem fresh and it feels like the kitchen staff put a lot of care and preparation in the presentation of each dish. Soup dumplings were tasty, perfect texture and exploded with juicy flavor. “Soy cutlet with teriyaki” Soy cutlet has a great, easy to eat texture, nice taste, generous portions of mix veggies and the sauce is perfect, teriyaki but not too sweet or sugary. The server was quite busy yet remained friendly, and managed to remember our order perfectly.

This place is incredible! The rolls are so innovative and fresh, we ordered 4 and everything was divine. It is a small restaurant with a modern design. Friendly and fast service. It feels upscale and casual at the same time. One of my favorites in NY.

It was okay, nothing to write home about. I got beyond burger and fries. Patty was to small for the whole wheat bun used. Also, I eat beyond burgers and wasn't a custom to that type of beyond meat. Maybe it's me, however beyond burger s usually taste seasoned. Asked for extra vegan mayo, wasn't enough, so I asked for more. The sweat potato fries were good, just needed a little more salt. My girl plate tasted good and ithe place was quiet, waiter was nice and attentive. I would go back and try something different.

My first ever vegan experience! Loved it. It really wasn't bad at all. Good place, simple but lovely food, good American sized portions. I left nearly half of my food behind because I couldn't finish it! Good place!

The food was delicious! I got the Sweet & Sour Divine Small Plate and Cedar Udon noodles and both perfectly incorporated authentic Chinese flavors while creatively including the Vegan ingredients. The staff were also very friendly! Would reccomend this place as one of the top places to visit in Manhattan!!!

If you're vegan, kosher, halal or perhaps both, this is an excellent option when visiting the West Village. Everything I tried tasted as if it was made fresh when I ordered it.

The best vegan Chinese food in NYC! My favorites are the (extra) happy dumplings which are so delicate and light they have to be tried to believe it, and the Singapore Mei fun which is full of curry flavor and rice noodles. Happy hour is a bonus 5-7pm $5 dollar beer and wine. We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The staff is super courteous and attentive. A+

Delicious food and great service! I loved the sizzling soy cutlet so much that I thought about it for 2 weeks and brought people back with me 😁 I just wish their bubble tea was a little cheaper or they offered it cheaper without bubbles.

I had the scallion noodles and the vegan soup dumplings. The scallion noodles were exactly how I expected them to taste, which was nothing less than delicious. The soup dumplings were satisfying. All of the staff is really sweet and the prices here are amazing!
