The Staten Island Ferry is used every day by thousands of commuters. It's free and a great way to travel between the boroughs. Another reason people ride the ferry is because of the great views. Why pay $40 for a cruise, when you can ride for free and see the Statue of Liberty. Thus, the ferry is filled with tourists. It's a must do when visiting New York.

Like many, many, many other New Yorkers, this is where I take whoever comes to visit me when they want to see the Statue of Liberty. The ferry come pretty close to the statue, and it's free! So, why not? The terminal is nice and modern, although I think they should have the time of the next ferry on the big screen on top and not on a small sign next to the door... The ferry itself is really big, so you could always find a place to sit.

One of if not the best free attraction in NYC. A free ferry ride between Staten Island and lower Manhattan that goes right past the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and gives a spectacular view if lower manhattan. Once in Manhattan your just a few steps from the Seaport, Battery Park, Ground Zero and Wall St. On the Staten Island side the AAA ballpark for the Staten Island Yankees and a up and coming foodie area. Oh, did I say it is free??

It is always hard to find free things in the city when it comes to transportation. The Staten Island ferry is definitely a plus for the commuters. Located conveniently at the tip of the battery park, this ferry is a very good alternative for the people who would want to save money on those expensive water taxis and boat tours to see the skyline of NYC ,Jersey City and Statue of Liberty. The ferry is free of charge, though riders must disembark at each terminal and reenter through the terminal building for a round trip .The ride itself is very comfortable and lasts for almost 20-25 mins. Defintely a must thing to do in the city which would not break your wallet.

Such a amazing thing to experience and do. This ferry is super busy sense it is a public transit ferry. But it is free and a great way to get away from the city. Also a great way to see the NYC skyline. As well it gives you a great view of the NYC skyline and Statue of Liberty.

The Staten Island Ferry was very enjoyable; we had a good view in the upper deck, although it was very freezing and cold when we went; it was still a fantastic, and breathtaking view. In the lower deck, they had an indoor sitting area where you could buy food from a cart. They also provided a great audio tour for you to follow through.

The ferry building is a quick and free way to get from Manhattan onto Staten Island. The crowds can get a bit pushy and out of control, there is always more than enough space on the ferry's multiple levels. Once on the ferry, you can see St. Georges Island, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty. Anyone wanting to see NYC should visit the ferry building and take the ferry to Staten Island.

A very worthwhile trip. We braved the trip on a very cold New Year's Day, but did not regret a minute of the trip there, or the time on the ferry. We enjoyed seeing the lower Manhattan skyline, but mostly took the trip to see the Statute of Liberty. The grand old lady does indeed look grand from the ferry. Gives you a sense of what immigrants may have thought arriving in America after a long and dangerous trip. The amazing thing is the trip over and back is free. Takes about an hour round trip. All time well spent.
