We visited this past weekend for a guided paddle around Sagamore Lake and also an afternoon historic tour of the property. We did not book lunch on the property but in the ticketing information and our confirmation email we read that "Lunch is not included, but you are welcome to bring your own to enjoy on Sagamore’s grounds." Our paddle was from 9:30-11:30 and the historic tour was 1:30-3:30 so we had packed our lunch to enjoy on the property for that two hour gap between tours. However, after checking in for our paddle we headed down to the boat house and were stopped and questioned about what we were doing on the property and the interaction made us feel uneasy and unwelcomed even though we had paid for two separate tours that day. We hadn't even strayed from the main road that takes you from the Chalet to the Boat so its not like we were wandering the property. We didn't even bother having lunch on the grounds and instead ate in the visitor parking lot (not on the grounds of the camp) out of our car by a DEC trailhead. My suggestion would be to either give paying visitors a wrist band or sticker so the employees can easily identify those of us "allowed" to be on the grounds or assign a designated lunch area for those who purchased a tour to enjoy our packed lunches. Our guides were knowledgeable and lead great tours so I feel really bummed to say it but I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending the tours to my friends or family for fear they would have a similar experience.

I just did the historic tour with a guide who taught about the history & other interesting facts about Great Camp Sagamore. It was all very interesting & I enjoyed it. Now I'll have to go up there to stay as a guest sometime or partake in one of their programs. The forest surrounding the area is noteworthy for exploring!

The staff is the friendliest I have ever dealt with. The camp is rustic beauty. Don't look for cell phone use or wifi because you won't get it here. Leave your phones in your car. The rooms are clean and well kept. The three daily meals are quite good. I highly recommend this place for a rustic vacation. Hiking, boating, bowling, croquet, and more. Tours and historical significance of the camp available to.

We had a lovely afternoon of lunch and a tour of the property. The food was very good. The service was friendly and joyful. We had fun dining in the extravagant great camp dining room and imagining the Vanderbilt parties. The tour was informative and detailed. It is a long tour so be prepared. Very interesting though maybe a little long for children especially. Our tour guide was very passionate about the history and providing a wonderful tour, though obviously very new to the job. We enjoyed our time and bowling on the porch was a highlight.

We didn’t stay at the camp but did the lunch and 2 hour tour. Food was great! Also our historian guide was fabulous and we learned so much! I can’t remember her name but really enjoyed the lunch and tour.

Our tour of the Camp was led by a guide whose encyclopedic knowledge of the beautiful place and its history was impressive, yet her easy conversational presentation organized the mass of information into a thoroughly enjoyable whole. We were visiting friends who have a home nearby and found our time at Sagamore to be a highlight of the trip.

This is a cool place. We stopped driving home and did the self tour. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I can't speak to staying here but it is worth seeing.

We went for the Wednesday night dinner and a concert. The meal was absolutely amazing and they had my favorite, short ribs. The food was plentiful and the atmosphere was magnificent. This was well worth the cost of $25.
