I am a bit delayed in posting this review. This post was from our annual Christmas trip to NYC, 2022. We have stayed at the Intercontinental New York Barkley on numerous occasions, and I’ve never had any issues. Actually, it is just the opposite. We have always had exceptionally high service from this establishment. Unfortunately, this stay was a bit different. When we arrived to the room we checked the bathroom, closets, and bedding for cleanliness. The toilet appeared to have been recently used. We called the front desk to ask for assistance. They said they would send someone immediately to clean the toilet. We waited for over an hour and heard nothing. We called back downstairs asking to speak to the manager. We waited on the phone for 5 another minutes. Someone finally came back on the line and said that the manager was unavailable but someone from housekeeping was on their way up. A very pleasant individual showed up 10 minutes later and thoroughly cleaned the toilet. Our next issue occurred that evening when we started hearing excessive banging next-door to our room. We finally opened the door to see what was happening and realized they had placed us between housekeeping on one side and the ice machine room on the other side. Needless to say, it was incredibly noisy during the entire length of our stay. Our next issue was after taking a shower. The shower leaked excessively onto the bathroom floor. We had to ask for additional towels to keep up with the paddling of water. There was clearly a history of leaking as the wall was distorted, and there was the appearance of mold at the base of the wall. We inquired several times to move rooms, however, we were told each time that they were booked solid. When we checked out at the end of our stay, I asked to speak to the manager. The manager was pleasant enough, but was unwilling to adjust our bill for the aforementioned list of issues. He asked if we could join their rewards program so he could credit points to our account. We graciously declined and left, feeling frustrated and disappointed, knowing that we would most likely never return to this location.

Updated from a sad 3 stars on arrival (previous visits were wonderful) to a 1 star after experiencing zero interest to deliver on the services of a five star hotel and loyalty perks. With two exceptions, the ‘genuine’ hospitality is as fake as the ivy at the entrance. Help from the bellmen at arrival or departure? Zero. A warm welcome? No. A clean room? You wish. Suite dreams worth the hefty price tag? Absolutely not. And don’t expect anything special from the “elevated lounge experience”. But when a hotel cuts back on almost everything, serves breakfast behind the bar in the lobby (and charges for coffee refills), but most importantly no longer gives decade long employees their much anticipated Christmas bonus, then that says it all. Worst Intercontinental experience ever, with zero DA amenities despite asking nicely about it twice. The empty guest relations desk speaks volumes, too. Didn’t want to believe the other bad reviews, but sadly it was all true and then some.

The lobby is impressive when you walk in, a classic 1930's feel and that sets the trend for the rest of the hotel. My room was spacious and despite it looking vintage it had plenty of charging points and electrical sockets. Just perfect for a business trip. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom a good size with everything working perfectly. Above all everything was cleaned to a high standard which is probably one of the most important things when staying at a hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would be happy staying here again!

So far a great experience. Combining status points and a bit of cash made the place quite affordable -- with Club access included (impressive service by the Club attendant) and an exceptional breakfast (described as "continental" but with hot selections, more than that). Room is spacious and clean and the overall hotel has a great feeling of character and comfort.

If you are like me when I travel, I spend hours reading reviews trying to find the perfect place to stay. Look no further when you come to NYC, STAY HERE! I am super picky and having worked in hospitality its hard to find a hotel that meets my needs. I booked with Hotels.com and received an email from the hotel a few days before I arrived asking if there was anything we required. I had mentioned our flight landed early and we were coming to New York to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. I was nervous because even if you mentioned you'll need an early check-in, the room isn't ready. But the check-in process was fast and the room was ready! Tony was friendly and welcoming. Also, moments after checking in, a concierge came to our room to welcome us and had a beautiful candle for my mom and a card for her birthday. The hotel is perfectly located (safe neighborhood), well maintained, and above all CLEAN! Our room had everything we needed and the bed was SO COMFORTABLE! Housekeeping did an amazing job on turn-down service. Was so nice to come back after exploring all day to a nice and tidy room. We had the breakfast buffet one day and there is literally something for everyone. I know if friends ever ask which hotel to stay at while visiting NYC, I am recommending it!

Classy property, well appointed rooms with a modern classic feel. Location is convenient as you can pretty much walk to anywhere (with a good pair of sneakers!). The rooms can be dark so go for high floor and ask for east 48th street facing rooms. The bar / reception area can benefit from better lighting. The gym is decent on equipment (they have a peloton) but again feels like a cellar.

I had a wonderful stay here last winter. I loved breakfast buffet even though it was expensive because I got what I paid for. Room was great. Comfortable bed with elegantly decorated room. I highly recommend if you are going to New York. Can't wait to go back and enjoy the breakfast buffet again!

Large hotel, with helpful front staff. Room rate was on the higher side than we normally like to pay. We like to travel by car, parking is expensive, worked out to $92 Canadian a night! We found the bell hops to be very courteous and front desk associates helpful and understanding (especially when someone decided to remove bottles from the mini bar without reading that you’re automatically charged for them). Rooms are clean, well decorated. Bathroom is good size, clean, well appointed. My only complaint would be the size of the shared double bed. The hotel description says the room sleeps three, which is good for us,but the double beds are small in size and make for an uncomfortable sleep for 2. We overall liked the hotel and it’s location to various points of interest, but would not stay again unless we splurge for a more expensive room with larger beds.

Spent 8 nights here which is a fairly long stay and the entire experience was flawless. The rooms are very well sized for NYC and the cleaning was immaculate each and everyday. The bed, pillows and sheets were also perfect - had a very comfortable sleep! The location was perfect for business and shopping! Loved my stay and will be back next time I'm in town.

Overall Great experience. Large room, good amenities, water and cheese plate upon arrival. Minibar, coffee and tea available in the room. Service in the hotel was ok. Long queue at the front desk. The bar area was great. We will definitely come back…

We loved our stay at the intercontinental NY Barclay. The location is central and convenient (midtown). When we stayed there there was a big construction project just a couple blocks away but we didn't hear anything in our room. The lobby looks like something from a movie. Some staff were courteous, some were just OK. The bed was so comfortable. I had the best sleep. You do need to pay a resort fee when you check out. Keywords: great location, beautiful lobby and room, comfortable bed.

Overall, a great stay and an outstanding experience! The staff was very attentive to our needs and eager to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were beautiful. Great midtown location, close to Central Park, 5th avenue, grand central station. The hotel's breakfast buffet was over the top, with a beautiful assortment of food and great servers who keep the hot coffee, tea & chilled juices coming. We will definitely come back!

Absolutely loved it ! Wouldn’t stay anywhere else in NYC ! Elegant, wonderful service, perfect location, exquisite rooms, exceptional service, clean, beautiful. Was greeted by the front desk attendant , who fulfilled all our special requests. Beware all though I love this hotel the breakfast hotel price is astronomical, Way too over priced for breakfast ! Eat outside the hotel !

Nice enough hotel - would give 3.5 but that’s not an option. Wouldn’t rave about it, but also wouldn’t discourage others from booking. Room was a decent size and very clean. Location was good; central but away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square. Reception staff were average - we had a query about a special rate offered and it was hard work trying to get a straight answer out of them. Rightly or wrongly, we had higher expectations of the hotel from other reviews and their website.

First I will start with the positive. The beds were comfortable. The location was nice now I would start with the negative when we first came. The guy from the receptionist did not have the room ready for us even though we came late around 7 o'clock evening We, we requested a Deluxe double. We get a single room with a roller bed. Which was not convenience. secondly, The room has no water and this is 4 star hotel. Which was very inconvenience. My roommate chose another room for himself. And he was charged extra money. My recommendation is to have Trained people at that receptionist.

We stayed for two nights at the intercontinental hotel and had a pretty great experience. The hotel itself is very authentic and fits the aesthetic of the city well, with engravings and paintings showcasing the best the city has to offer. Our room was clean and tidy, and the beds were very comfortable. We didn’t stay in our room too much though, as the hotel is in a prime location next to Times Square, Park Ave, and so many great places to explore. Overall a great place to spend a few nights in NYC!

We have stayed in many NYC hotels, most claiming to be luxury, in a variety of areas. The Barclay, however, backs up their claim as a top-notch luxury hotel. Everything from the kind, helpful, and welcoming staff to the food and drink was exceptional. The VIP amenities I received were definitely worth it! Breakfast was outstanding with everything you could want, hot and cold, pastries, salmon and bagels, many many hot items to choose from and different every day. One of my favorite parts of the hotel itself was the lobby/lounge and bar area. It was incredibly welcoming and social in the best way. The room itself was ideal with an extremely comfortable bed and well equipped with high-quality toiletries and an amazing mini-bar. The location of the Intercontinental was perfect. Just enough off 5th Ave to avoid the noise but just a couple blocks East to get there or Central Park or Time Square very quickly. Thank you Barclay! Can’t wait to return.

The hotel has very clear negatives and positives. On the positive front, the cleaning staff are fantastic! Flexible and proactively looking to accommodate, they were simply great. We worked from the hotel room for 5 days, and every day they did everything they could to cause the least disruption to our day that would be possible. Additionally, the quality of the bed was good, as was the bathroom. On the negatives, for the price of the room the space was tiny. Barely enough room to pull out the chair to sit at the desk. The tv remote was partially broken (several buttons did not work), and there was no room to even open the suitcase. Additionally, everything is ridiculously overpriced. One (small) cup of tea cost $10. Finally, the staff were awful. For some reason, our key cards stopped working a few times, which the reception staff then fixed but not in a particularly friendly way. Finally, when I came downstairs (at 9am) to sit at the bar/café area to have a tea, the only table that wasn’t set up for food was for four people. So I sat there (thinking this would disrupt the staff less), and had an angry waiter approach me. He basically told me if I didn’t eat food (even though I wanted a tea), I wasn’t allowed to sit there. After pushing back, he said I could but that if any party of 4 arrived he would kick me out. Would expect better service than this!

Luxury hotel well appointed in New York City. Rooms are small but immaculate. Lovely bar and restaurant area just off the main entrance. We used the gym a couple of times which is small but well stocked. Staff were lovely. Would definitely return

Very nice hotel, but $42pp for a mediocre continental breakfast that's a half step above Costco and charging $4.50 to take the coffee back to your room is ridiculous. Yes, thanks for automatically adding 15% "gratuity" for filling my coffee once and letting me serve myself cheerios from the dispenser.

What a wonderful hotel to stay in on our first visit to New York ! The most warm welcome on arrival at the hotel. The most beautiful junior suite with the comfiest beds we have ever slept in. Incredible location walking distance to Times Square , Rockerfeller , Central Park etc Lovely relaxing environment and fabulous drinks at the bar too. We could not fault anything about this hotel and will recommend to anyone visiting this incredible city x

This is a fantastic high end hotel with beautiful rooms and furnishings. Rained our entire trip - never fear, the Barclay had umbrellas available the whole time. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Bar was excellent. Staff, especially cleaning staff, were wonderful. Would stay there again anytime.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. Located in much quieter area but yet close enough to Rockefeller center, st Patrick’s cathedral, the diamond district and fifth avenue shopping. The morning buffet is good but not five star. It could be better but it was fine for not having to leave the hotel. Oh, heated bathroom floor, beautiful rooms, super comfortable bed and gorgeous sheets. Byredo bathroom products. This hotel is historic, beautiful and I highly recommend!!!!

A fabulous hotel with very friendly and polite staff. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable and huge! There are coffee and tea available in the rooms with plenty of storage and a lovely shower and bathroom…. This hotel feels luxurious and a stay here would make any trip memorable.

Easy check in process. Room was clean. Basic food was over priced. Location is a few minutes walk from the train station. I’d give it 5 stars if not for the $50/night “resort fee” that you find out when you’re checking in.

Looks like a fancy hotel but it was a lot of smoke and mirrors. The room paint was peeling in the bathroom with a whole section missing by the shower, the beds are full sized not queen and very tiny. We were traveling with our two kids and it was a tight fit. The fridge in the room doesn't have a lot of space if you need to store anything in it, 90% of it is taken up by the mini bar that charges you if you move anything. The drinks at the lobby bar are overpriced, boring, and frankly a waste of time. The bar snacks were better than the drinks. The location is ok, close to Grand Central Terminal and Saks Fifth but next time I'd rather stay closer to Central Park. Finally, the staff here is completely lackluster and could care less about their guests. When we checked in the receptionist was dull, the bartenders at the bar were less than engaged, and we used the "express check out" option via text so we didn't even have to engage with staff on the way out. Even the bell staff at the doors weren't courteous or helpful EVER. Heck, even the lady in Guest Relations was put off when I asked her a simple question. For petes sake she is in "guest relations". However, that was not even the worst part. The WORST part was that when we arrived in our room there was a letter letting us know that the hotel had tested positive for fecal bacteria and that should we start to feel sick during or after our stay we should notify the NY Dept of Health. Yes, they were "working on solutions" and "encouraged us to use hot water for bathing and brushing teeth" but to not even mention it when we checked in is just poor customer service. So do yourself a favor and don't stay here not matter how fancy it looks.

Hospitality at its finest in NYC. Spent our wedding anniversary here and loved the experience. The room was spacious, and the deco was modern classic. We were upgraded due to being a platinum IHG member. We got a nice card for our anniversary occasion. The guest service was on point, and we loved the fast in room service for breakfast. The pastry platter was a good option. The bathroom was great, with no issue whatsoever, and it even had a luxury bidet. The bed was really comfortable and luxurious. The TV had all the premium channels, too. The hotel location is very central. The check-in and check-out experience were smooth, too. Overall, this is one of our best memorable hotel experiences.

This is not our first time at the Barclay and its always a pleasure. We booked three rooms for a business trip and all of us had a very relaxing and luxurious stay. Our room were immaculate, very well decorated and cozy. We all slept like babies after a long trip into the city and meetings around town. The bar has a great vibe at night and has a great breakfast buffet in the morning. The location is perfectly situated in midtown out of the hustle and bustle but close everything. There are several great restaurants on the street and in the neighborhood, including Avra on the same block and Smith & Wollensky around the corner. Highly recommend for any trip in Manhattan, business or pleasure!

Where to start.... Check-in was a breeze. I booked using my Visa signature card and was automatically upgraded to a deluxe room along with several other benefits. Definitely book using the Visa signature website if you're able to. I also requested late check-out, which was immediately granted. The room was spacious and the Byredo toiletries were such a nice surprise. Tastefully decorated and excellent bathroom lighting. The big walk-in shower was a plus. Stopped in the lobby for a drink prior to my event. On Saturday evenings, they have an awesome jazz band. Drinks were made exactly as I would expect from such a nice hotel. The breakfast buffet was great, with plenty of hot and cold options. The french yogurt and corned beef with eggs were highlights. Service was a bit on the slow side, but for a lazy Sunday morning, it was acceptable. Truly a pleasant stay and I will highly recommend the hotel to any family or friends staying in the city.

I've stayed at this hotel numerous times and the service amongst all the hotel employees is unmatched compared to any other hotel I've stayed at. They are very accommodating, room service in my experience has always been super quick, I love the that housekeeping is everyday. The rooms are spacious and the closest train is a couple of blocks over.

Classic beautiful hotel near midtown yet far enough away from the touristy crowd. The rooms are decorated beautifully. The line es were superb. Staff were the kindest and most helpful, cheerful and gracious souls.

I really enjoyed my stay at the InterContinental New York Barclay last week. I was attending the Les Dames d' Escoffier Conference and there were a LOT of folks attending it and other conferences. The location can't be beat. You're within walking distance to Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station, and many other tourist attractions. For those of us who are native New Yorkers (and try to avoid those areas at all costs), this hotel is near the train so you can get anywhere else in the city with minimal effort. There's a quaint bar and tons of meeting rooms for those interested in hosting conferences or events. The vibe is Prohibition Chic. The elevators are frustratingly slow when they are hosting conferences, so that's something to be prepared for. I would love it if the rooms had a full-length mirror that wasn't impeded by the bed, but they had a ton of complimentary items like a sewing kit that I desperately needed at the last minute. I didn't care much for the dirty dishes and trash that my neighbors left in the hallway (and that housekeeping seemed to ignore), though. The front desk staff, especially Sharon, were so courteous and polite despite the madness of checking people in and out and addressing issues that arose. My air conditioning wasn't functioning properly for a period of 24 hours. After I requested it be checked, maintenance came up about 6 hours later and fixed it. I also found that my lock box wasn't operational (the lock was ejected making it impossible to reset the code) and my ironing board was leaning severely due a bent leg. Both issues were remedied within an hour of calling housekeeping or the front desk.

A real NYC classic. I had a 4-night stay here in Sept 2022 and it was a great experience. The location is unbeatable if you are in town for business, and the suites on the 15th floor truly feel like a mini home away from home. Everything was smooth, and the staff were friendly and helpful, yet unobtrusive. if I had one comment, it would be to scrap the extra fees for delivery of room service from downstairs - it feels unnecessary given the restaurant is part of the hotel.

The Barclay is a fantastic hotel and I highly recommend it. The Hotel is very clean and the staff take great care to ensure it stays that way. Rooms and bathrooms have been updated and they seem a little larger than your typical NYC room. Staff are friendly, eager to help and the housekeeping team is the best in the city. Location is very convenient, the subway is a short walk and the area is very safe. Dukes Eatery is around the corner and is a great place to pickup breakfast and coffee to go. Will definitely stay at the Barclay the next time in NYC.

The InterContinental Barclay is a beautiful, very, well kept hotel. Very classy & chic! Great location- walking distance to pretty much everything. The hotel is very clean, has no weird smells. Room is extremely clean & beautiful. It’s been all updated and remodeled! Beds are comfortable. Even though the rooms are on the smaller side- the space is actually great. Bathroom is very very clean and has a fantastic mirror which lights up- so doing you’re makeup is actually great. It has a magnifying mirror as well!! Staff is very kind and helpful especially Sofia! 😊

I’m writing this review as I am here staying. This is nothing luxurious.. My husband and I stayed here for the past 3 days.. so you do the math! The front desk staff is very rude and curt, passive aggressive. Especially Gregory! Due to inclimate weather we had to stay here. I’ve reached out to the general manager Sofia and still no response. This is not a luxurious hotel.. don’t waste your money! The food is a 1 star… $200 room service and the food is over cooked and salty! And bland! The rooms are a bit dated . Don’t ever get snowed in here! You’ll feel like a prisoner! I never write reviews! But the lack of response while I’m still here is very unprofessional and it’s evident that no one here has a degree from a reputable college in hospitality .

Stayed for an extended weekend before the end of the year in 2021. The holiday decorations were beautiful and had me all sorts of giddy. Rooms were tidy, beds cozy and heated tile floors in the bathroom were SUPERB! I was mostly excited about that, I think? I would have liked a smart-tv to cast streaming services onto for the evening when I was winding down but that was not a huge deal. The robes were pleasant, a bit stiff and scratchy but still nice. Loved the Keurig in the room too. The parlor was nice with great service. All in all a nice place and I honestly cant wait to go back.

My grand daughter and I spent Christmas/ her 10th birthday here and it was awesome. Everybody was exceptional! The doorman, check in staff, the concierge, the maid service, the breakfast staff, all went above and beyond. Our room was even upgraded due to my grand daughter celebrating her birthday. They even surprised her with an awesome treat upon arrival back to our room. I will definitely be returning!!

Great location. Good service but it is far from a 5 star hotel. Room is clean and specious, mini bar is good, but 1 towel and hardly any amenities in the bath room for a 5 star hotel is not acceptable.

Don't forget to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking a stay. This website will compare thousands of booking websites and normally will have rooms a lot cheaper compared to others! You're welcome :)! This hotel is one of the best in this area. I've been staying here for a long time. If you choose this place you for sure won't regret it. Trustworthy place to stay. They are sharp. Front desk guys could use some more personality but the restaurant staff was very friendly and so were the concierges. Would have liked a firmer mattress. Very clean and great location.
