When I saw those steps leading up to the Bowery lobby, I knew I was in for something special. The staff warmly greeted me as a shirtless man walked into the office for a drink. After getting our keys, we unlocked the door that would be home for the next two nights. To say I was amazed would be an understatement. Four white walls closely adorned the bed in which I would be sleeping. There was little space other than the bed, as if to suggest that this room was a place for rest, rather than work. Instead of a window, a mirror lay to my right so I could constantly look at my beautiful reflection. When it came time to pee, I was welcomed by a beautiful colony of drain flies flying above the bathroom floor which was marinated with mud from other guests' shoes -- a reminder that we were not alone. Although I refrained from showering as to avoid contracting the entire Covid variant alphabet, I am confident that guests who did shower most likely survived. Before going to sleep, I turned on the TV which was perfectly placed in front of the bed, and saw a beautiful vintage cartoon known as Clutch Cargo. Before dozing off, I placed a tarp on the bed to fend off the family of bed bugs that likely also resided in my residence. A cheap place to stay in Manhattan and I never felt unsafe. Just remember, you are never alone in the Bowery Grand Hotel.

I recently stayed at the Bowery Grand Hotel in New York City and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The hostel was plagued by a concerning number of individuals struggling with substance abuse issues and alcoholism, which created an uncomfortable and unsafe environment. The overall cleanliness of the place left much to be desired, with unsanitary conditions making the stay less than pleasant. One of the major downsides was the cramped quarters. The rooms were too small to comfortably accommodate guests, and the lack of proper sound insulation only exacerbated the problem. The noise level was intolerable, preventing a good night's sleep due to constant disturbances. Conversations, loud music, bodily noises, snoring, and blaring alarms were all a part of the nightly symphony, sometimes lasting for minutes on end. On a more positive note, I must commend the staff for their friendliness and willingness to assist. Despite the challenges faced by the guests, the personnel remained courteous and helpful throughout my stay. However, if your intention is to find a place to truly relax and unwind, I cannot recommend the Bowery Grand Hotel. The uncomfortable living conditions, coupled with the noise issues, overshadow the positive aspects of the friendly staff. It's disappointing that such potential is marred by these significant drawbacks. If peace and tranquility are what you seek, it's best to explore other accommodation options in the city.

I had a wonderful stay at the Bowery Grand Hotel during my visit to New York. The hotel's prime location in the heart of the city made it incredibly convenient to explore the city's vibrant neighborhoods. The staff was welcoming and accommodating, ensuring my stay was comfortable. The rooms were clean, well-maintained, and offered a cozy retreat after a day of exploring the city. The hotel's unique charm and character, combined with its affordability, made it an excellent choice for my trip. I appreciated the value it provided. I highly recommend the Bowery Grand Hotel to anyone looking for an enjoyable stay in New York. I look forward to returning on my next visit to this incredible city.

Do not stay here if you're disabled!!! The hostel begins on the second floor of its building, and the only way up or down is a flight of stairs. There is no advance warning given. I was able to use the stairs but it was painful. If you're on the first floor of the hostel, make sure to only use the second bathroom from the left. They're spoiling us with both toilet paper and a mirror. I'd ask for hand soap, but then I'd feel like they were spoiling us. The bedding has stains and tears, and when you strip it off the bed you find that the mattress and pillow are definitely not cleaned. Some problems aren't the fault of management, but the bedding and bathrooms definitely are. While some older buildings in New York don't have any good way to add accessibility features, this should still be made known ahead of time. Stay at HI New York on the UWS instead.

Rooms are very small and have a gap between the walls and the roof therefore you can hear everyone next door, bugs constantly crawling around the room and hallway looks like a prison cell, toilet paper is not provided but they do provide you with toothpaste and a tooth brush. Rooms do not get cleaned whilst you’re staying there no matter how long you are there for, so if you’re there for 8 days the room won’t get cleaned for 8 days, including the bin/trash Can not getting emptied. Light doesn’t fully work unless you hit it a few times and the bathrooms are extremely filthy. Only come here if you need somewhere extremely cheap to stay, and even then an Airbnb is probably better.

The room was just a size of a closet. Almost couldn’t fit my suitcase in it.Can’t hardly even move around. There is no ceilings. Just wires. While in your room You can hear the others on the snoring, coughing, watching videos on their cell phones. I had trouble sleeping and was woken up numerous times during the night. The lobby had at least 2 to 3 homeless people sleeping in it.The bathrooms are old and moldy. No toilet paper & paper towels.

This is the most horrible experience I’ve ever had in a “hotel”. The room doesn’t have a selling, so you can listen to people snoring, farting and even yelling all day and all night; people fight and you feel quite insecure there. YOU CAN’T SLEEP, cause there is a door that closed and open loudly every single time. The room was not clean, I had coach-roaches in my room all the time and the bathrooms were always dirty. The shower doesn’t have a good door, it has a curtain with mold in it. In terms of security, nothing happened, nonetheless, the lock of the room can be easily broken and you feel like people can hurt you. This is not a hotel, it’s a pay-per-night stay and a lot of weird people stay in. Please help us suing this place, it should be CLOSED.

Found this hotel, when looking up motels in the New York region. This one caught my eye and went looking at the photos of the rooms and how small they were. I thought it was cool to stay at a motel where it’s just a bed surrounded by walls and a walk in the hallway to the bathroom as I am used to your standard motels where is wide open spaces with the bed and a shower and one room. When I checked in to a hotel website, I got the date wrong and when I asked if I can change the date, the person in the service counter said I had to call customer service, but somehow they managed to change the date for me, which was really nice of them. they even gave you your own toilet paper, your own toothbrush, toothpaste soap, all that stuff which was mighty generous, and because the rooms were tiny They were nicely air-conditioned on the hottest days of the week and you have the best public transportation as the subway is down the block with everything around you. I only paid $71 plus taxes to stay here which is not bad for New York City.

Nothing as advertised. Inside the building, the place is dirty, not clean at all. Dirty sheets(I'm pretty sure they didn't even change the sheets at all), dirty walls, there's this 'mesh' on the ceiling of the rooms, that make them feel like a prison. Dirty bathrooms, it smells everywhere, and so on... =/ About the outside.... I'm not sure if I was worried more about the area, the homeless, the cockroaches or the rats on the entrance. Personnel is friendly, but... It is a big NO. Avoid the place all cost!!!

Bed bugs and roaches. I literally took the sheets and pillow to the laundry mat to wash and dry on high heat. Tonight is my last night. I don't know how people can deal with the bed bugs. Im itching all over, but the staff are really nice!!!

The good location won’t outdo the HORRIFIC conditions of this “hotel”. There were homeless people, it was super dirty, smelled like smoke, it was so bad that I ended up leaving a ne losing almost 90 bucks. The worst place ever, never go there!!!

This place is a absolutely a dump! Dirty bathrooms w/ no toilet paper. The rooms are disgusting w/ flees and bed bugs on a nasty dirty mattress. The ceiling has chicken wire so you can hear all the other sketchy looking people that are staying there. The worst place. I had to get another hotel.

The receptionist was nice and helpful. However this is not the best spot to stop. This is not really a hotel, a long corridor with tiny rooms. I had a snoring and coughing guy in the next door, therefore I could sleep only for 4 hours. Good thing though, it has a warm shower. Instead I would look at Airbnb , you catch a good deal there. At that time I didn’t know about Airbnb.

I had booked this hostel through Expedia without googling the reviews. Terrible mistake and I feel like I narrowly escaped a bed bug and cockroach ridden nightmare. There are multiple reviews with pictures showing the bug infestation here. I called about 4 or 5 hours before check in to see if I could leave my bags there before check in time (they said you can but they leave them in the lobby and are not responsible for your things.). I then googled it, and saw the reviews. I immediately called Expedia for a refund, to which they called the hotel and called me back to say “the hotel said they do not have bed bugs. No refund will be offered”. I didn’t fully expect a refund on the day of the reservation but honestly paying for a whole new hotel was obviously worth it for the peace of mind. I hope you are reading this review and decide to save yourself from this experience. Cheers

Stayed here for 2 nights, Dec 4 - 6, 2021. Location was pretty good, near B / D Grand St subway station and the M103 bus, Spring St's 6 station and Bowery J / Z is close too. People at the front desk are super friendly, always greeting me when I came back. Each room is just a twin bed, a light switch with a power outlet, and a chair. towel, toothbrush, and soap were provided. The beds are tiny though, couldn't really sleep well on it, narrow and a bit too short for someone who's 5'10''. Bathroom and shower were alright, I didn't shower here but it looked fine. Room walls were really thin, could hear other people. I was worried a bit about ventilation with covid, didn't check covid vaccination cards upon check-in. All I did here was sleep so the small rooms was fine with me, but I wouldn't stay here if I planned on spending more time "at home". Wifi speed was fine.

I stayed at the hotel for a week in November 2023. Based on the pictures, I expected a small room in a budget hotel. I was very disappointed because the pictures were much better than the reality. The linoleum on the floor of my tiny room was ripped up and the bathrooms had lots of mold in the cracks though they did try to keep the other surfaces reasonably clean. The reception area was cluttered with lots of what looked like garbage bags. The staff was very nice though and the location very central, for my travel. I feel like I paid too much given the actual conditions of the place.

Pro: Near Chinatown and Little Italy, there are so many great local restaurants. Near subway stations that go to the Bronx and Brooklyn, and Manhattan Cheapest hotel in town. Cons: rooms are tiny, shared bathroom, deposit for keys, thin walls, and dirty restrooms.

I guess it's all about context. This was fine for me as I was traveling alone and with only a standard backpack. This place is definitely not for those traveling as a couple, a family, or with a group. This is also not the place if you are traveling with luggage. I barely had room for my backpack. Bed was okay. I'm about 5'10 and I barely fit. So anyone taller than 5'10 is not going to be comfortable. Bathrooms were dirty and had no toilet paper. Bring your own toilet paper! And buy cheap sandals to wear here and then throw them away after! You definitely don't want to be walking around barefoot here. Room had no TV. Also, don't count on getting good sleep here as it is extremely noisy. You can hear everyone at all hours of the day. However, the location is top notch. About 2-3 minutes walking to the subway to go to Times Square or the Statue of Liberty. Like I said, it was fine for me as I was alone and didn't care about a TV. If your willing to sacrifice privacy, sleep, and a clean restroom for a good price and good location then this is the place for you. Staff was friendly and welcoming.

Its a tricky situation-got stuck here long term during COVID-but this hotel did not get transformed into a 'shelter' garrison, like many other 2 and 3 star dives in NYC area. Its still the same, wonderful, cheap dive you remember! :) If you're a survivalist? trained in military, camping and self preservation? Then this will suffice whilst u plan your next move! OOrah ....

You get what you pay for. Can't really complain to much; just be aware this is closer to a hostel then a hotel. Location was great. Wish the bathroom was a bit bigger and cleaner was all but overall was good. The walls are very thin so bring earplugs or headphones you can sleep with

This is (not really exaggerating here) a storage unit converted into a hostel. There are 2 floors—2nd floor for men, 3rd floor for women—and they are not accepting of trans people. You have a key to you private “room” (a 7’ x 5’ enclosure with no ceiling, just wiring to prevent other guests from climbing into your room), which is the only way you can tell this apart from a hostel.

Me,My friends and my boyfriend Should've known better. We couldn't even fit in the room. My friends tried to sleep together but no space. Me and my boyfriend tried to sleep together but no space. WE HAD TO GET OUR OWN ROOMS! SPENT UP TO 10 DOLLARS FOR EACH OF OUR ROOMS. Paid up to 40 dollars no big deal -_- Such a big deal. The bathrooms where small also. We barely had any Drawers to fit our clothes in. Had to keep our luggages in our rooms beside us. We were so tired of this place we booked tickets for another state. I seriously don't recommend you go there. Unless you wanna spend your money on a cheap hotel.

it was the cheapest hotel in nyc so you get what you pay for but it isn’t all that bad. i stayed 3 nights and overall, the staff is super nice, my room came with a fan, tv, mirror, nightstand and a standard bed and they provided me with 2 comfy blankets. there was also a chain lock on my door and as a young woman staying in nyc, i was grateful for that. the shared bathrooms were okay, needed a good paint job and cleaning but the shower was super nice, the water pressure was perfect in my opinion. the only thing is they give you your own toilet paper roll and soap so you have to take it to the bathroom instead of it already being there, which was odd but 🤷‍♀️ if i were to come back to nyc, i would probably stay at this place again!

There is no Grand to this hotel. Shouldn't even be called a hotel honestly. It's a backpacker's dream place so to speak. But if you got lots of luggage kids and a wife this place will never work for you. Beds are just full size beds and you can touch your door from your bed the walls are very close to the bed and the bed room is really small the TV is very small as well. Staff was very friendly but didn't speak that much English so not very helpful in a lot of things. There are no elevators in this hotel whatsoever so if you have a lot of bags prepare to carry them up yourself. Staff will not help you if there are alone in the office. There is also no bathroom in your room, it is a communal bathroom. Toilet paper is supplied when you rent the room. Otherwise there is no toilet paper in the bathroom. The same with soap. I did not dare to put my bare feet on the shower floor so I use some flip-flops instead. There was also water dripping down from one of the bathrooms above the other bathroom. Probably because someone flooded the other bathroom upstairs. If you don't mind a very old hotel with a room that's very small and a TV that's very small, and Camino bathrooms. This place is for you. As I said before it's a Backpackers Delight or a dream place because it's cheap and if you don't require a lot of space it's perfect for someone like that as for a family a couple forget about it.

Grand hotel? What rubbish. The rooms are way too small. It look like a prison cell to me. The bathroom is even worse. Very very small. Very dirty and smells awfull. There was even a mice hanging for it dear and squeaking too loud. There was small gaps on top that I can hear insects crawling. I heard a laughter “Hehehe! Look who's here!!” Was a 60 year old man smiling to me. Gave me a heart attack. Don't come to this hotel if you are claustrophobic

First of all there are no separate rooms. There is one big room with little boxes where You sleep. Boxes have no roof. One air-conditioner takes them all. You have no controll over it. Second there are Bugs everywhere. They are in Your bed too! Third it smells trash and some visitors smoke. Since there is one big room it smells equaly. Fourt noise, since there is one big room there is Noise for egz. snorring. Some guests thinks that if nobody can see them they can behave noisy. They pretend that there are separate rooms, so they phone talk and listen music loudly during night. Fifth. Sleeping box is dirty. It is obvious that cleaning is limited only to sheets. Rest is untouched. This hotel should be closed because of bugs issue.

All of the employees were nice, and the location is pretty good. Rooms are about 7' by 6', and the bathrooms are not very clean, but alas, you get what you pay for. This is the type of place you go to for one night and no more, just to sleep. Oh and the amount of privacy you get is ok, but other people there can hear what you are doing.

There is a simple thing that I would like to tell the hotel management about? It is only to tell the guest not to disturb others. And put a small sticker inside and outside the room. As for the hotel in terms of price, cleanliness, and location, it is much better than 3-star hotels. Greetings, appreciation, and love to you

Definitely the type of place where you stay for one night at most. The room itself, although tiny, honestly wasn't that bad, my only gripe were the bed bugs. If it wasn't for that I would have had a fairly comfortable stay.

The ugliest dirtiest hotel I've ever been to. I paid $88 and it said I could smoke inside there. I couldn't. The room is so small. It has no windows. It's literally a bed and that's it. The walls are old and dirty. The bathrooms are shared and small. The room is worth $30

When I got here, the receptionist was stinking around he looks like he is a homeless guy. He is a black man with a blue shirt and black pants. Then he told me to check in the hotel at 2:00 PM because he had to leave. After he went, I told the supervisor that he was stinking. Then a lady came to the receptionist and finally gave me my room. I would not go to this place again!

I got dozens of bed bug bites all over my body during my stay here. Reading other reviews this place has a long history of infestation and management doesn't seem to care. I seriously dreaded coming back to sleep here and counted down the days, prisoners must have more spacious, better, cleaner living conditions... I stayed almost a month here during my move and would rather sleep on the subway or in a park than pay to stay another night here, these are less rooms and more cubicles with a grated ceiling meaning you will hear everyone around you watching movies/making noises/snoring etc(bring headphones/earplugs), I saw various mites/roaches/spiders in the communal restroom and even my bed during my stay, this place is like 1 step above a homeless shelter, I think it partly serves as housing for homeless based on the people I saw sleeping in the lobby, the bed is very narrow and will be too short to stretch out completely if you are 5'10~ or taller, yes the geographic location is nice and yes I like the concept of "capsule hotels" but that doesn't excuse that this place is infested and needs a deep clean/renovation. I don't understand why nothing in the "rooms" are dusted or cleaned execpt the sheets it seems. The staff are nice and the location is good but I honestly felt so gross having bed bugs feast on me every night, stay in a hostel, stay anywhere else.

If your looking for a place to relax don't come hear. I was in a room where it was plagued by bed bugs and had to pay a visit to the Dr. Due to a severe allergic reaction to the bites and had to spend a night at the hospital to be watched. On top of that the shower had black mold everywhere and had a bad roach infestation. This place can be good if the owner cared enough to clean beds better and maintain the cleanliness up to par that's considered atleast liveable. I tried talking to them for a refund since I couldn't stay there due to bad allergic reaction and the guy in the window was unspathetic and didn't offer no solution to fix this problem. They can't guarantee a clean room since all the rooms are open cubicles and bed bugs can infest al beds so I was forced to leave and book on my own. Which cost me more money then wanting to spend. I would say no to this spot and say stay away from here. This place is run by crooks and people who dont care for your health.

BED BUGS!! The "rooms" are 7x3 enclosed spaces with net for ceilings, you're in a cubicle and hear everyone and everything around you. Rooms have nothing but a bed, the twin bed takes up half the entire space of the room, for scale. Notified front desk of bed bugs and they went 🤷🏻‍♂️ Located near SoHo and Manhattan proper do it has a decent location tho.
