Highly recommend this place if you enjoy nice mezcal cocktails! This speakeasy vibes in a dark bar is perfect for date night or small gathering. The ambience is nice and romantic. Noise level is 2/5. Service is excellent! Their bartenders make really high quality of cocktails. I’ll definitely revisit! We went there on a Monday night and it’s still pretty busy. Highly recommend to make reservations for weekends and holidays! My favorite cocktail for the night is Hold, Please! It’s refreshing, sweet and a has a little sour after taste perfectly mixed in with mezcal. Time to Buzz the Tower is pretty strong IMO.

A great bar with super friendly staff and great vibe! There is a wide range of cocktails here with various spirits. I would recommend the hammer factor the most for old fashioned lovers. It is made out of rye instead of bourbon, but the rye fragrance is strong with the spices in the drink. The Disco Volante is also a good drink with clarifies milk, which makes the touching creamy. The drink is good overall, but the orange fragrance is slightly too much for me, but the drink is still pretty good and might be acceptable for others! A recommended bar here near Washington Square Park!

Wonderful speakeasy near Washington Square Park. Go down a flight of stairs and take a break from the noisy NYC streets. Lots of excellent cocktail choices for around $20 and they are very tasty. Perfect place to catch up with a friend or go on a date. A good change to your evening plans. Service is great (as speakeasy bars should be expected to have) and the atmosphere is just perfect. The engraved ice is very cool too.

We finally got in after 3rd attempts! Reservation is a must. They had very unique drinks, and the place was really cute. 👌🏻 Had good time on Satruday night out.

Tried to go here on a weekend without reservations but the wait was far too long so we returned on a Monday evening as walk ins and were able to get a table (only had to wait 10-15 minutes). The atmosphere and ambiance was super lovely - great for a date night or intimate gathering with close friends. The cocktails definitely met my expectations and the server made our decision making process really easy. Overall, we had an awesome experience and I would go back for sure! One thing to note, this isn’t really a “speakeasy” like people are mentioning. The sign is on the door outside and you just walk down a few steps to get in. Make a reservation in advance if you can!

Lots of craft cocktails to choose from, all designed by their own bartenders, and also in rotation every season. The Insanely Good Midori Sour is my favorite cocktail here for sure. All of their cocktails are $19 a piece, and you definitely need a reservation before coming here because it's very busy, and their wait-list is very long.

The Up & Up always delivers a stellar cocktail experience. The menu is truly creative and the team is more than happy to make something off menu based on preferences. The atmosphere gives speakeasy vibes with the dark ambience and cozy booths. 10/10 recommend!

Come have a great cocktail before hitting The Blue Note or other places for a night out or a night cap. Cocktails are A+ and the staff is incredible and great recommendations.

Had a great experience here, enjoyed a couple of unique whiskey cocktails which is rare since most cocktail bars only have slight variations on old fashions and Manhattan’s. Knowledgeable, efficient service. Elegant decor, and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend making reservations, there was a 2.5 hour wait when I arrived, so I went to another cocktail bar and 1.5 hours later got the text that my seat was ready here. It made for a lovely evening!

The Up & Up is kind of like a speakeasy. You have to go down the stairs and ring the bell and they let you know if they have room to seat you. Three friends and I came by on the Friday before July 4th weekend at around 7:30, without a reservation. We rang the bell and the guy went to check for availability and shortly came back to let us in. I thought the place would be packed but it was half empty so not sure why he needed to check. Maybe to make it seem more exclusive? The inside is dark but not too dark. It would be a nice spot for a date. Cocktails are expertly made but pricey. They are $19 a pop. My friend ordered a mocktail and was also charged $19! I had the 'One-Star Yelp Review' (as a Yelper should lol), which is Reyka Vodka, Amaro Montenegro, Cachaça, Grapefruit Juice, Lemon Juice, and Demerara. It was very refreshing for such a hot day. The Up & Up is a nice place if you want to stop by for a quick drink but definitely not where you want to spend the entire night or else you'll likely run up quite a tab. But overall, pretty cool experience.

Intimate and cozy bar with an extensive list of sinfully delicious cocktails. Eat before you get here because they only have snacks. Service was excellent. Cocktails are $18 each, which is good pricing for NYC.

Bar hopping with friends on a weekday night. A few steps down you’ll see the door. As we didn’t have a reservation the staff let us waiting inside (a waiting room next to the entrance) for table to be ready along with a glass of water and menu to look for which is a really kind and welcoming gesture. Staffs are friendly. The inner decor especially the wallpaper is delicate and classic. Dark mode. Cozy vibe with the good use of light and shade to draw the virtual line between tables/ groups of people. The menu marked the glassware key ie, rocks or highball to easily have a better view of your type of drink. However the drinks didn’t meet our expectation, the taste are on the common side or too much ice with little alcohol according to one of my friend. Six seed (grapefruit).

finally checked this place off of my list! the bar is dimly lit, intimate, and ornate, perfect for dates of small gatherings. we were promptly seated for a 5pm reservation on a saturday afternoon. the menu had a huge selection and we were kinda overwhelmed to be honest. our server was really helpful and knowledgeable. we got the following to try: -Barricaded Mountaintop: a Negroni-like drink with a bergamot twist. loved it! -Happy Trails: a Whiskey Sour-like drink with apricot, yuzu, pineapple, and fennel. it was delicious! -Stay Gold: with bourbon, ginger, lime. it gave me the impression of a Kentucky Mule, sans mint. it was very gingery, which i like, but my friend is not a huge fan of. -Screen Door Slam: an Old-Fashioned like drink, but with addition of Aperol and Absinthe. i think all the drinks were quite inventive and had a nice range. service was great too. i think my only grip is how pricey it is. drinks are $19 a pop. as someone who loves cocktails and making cocktails at home, i'm not too impressed by the liquors that they used. they're not the most unique or interesting (Maker's Mark Bourbon, Reyka Vodka, Suntory Toki [tho i do love Suntory Toki, etc.]). overall, still a good time and will return.

Overall rating: 4.7 Very very intimate bar in the heart of west village. I sat at the bar with a few other solo folks and got a very early reso like around 6 or so. I liked the vibe, but I’m not sure if I’d be back solo or even with a friend. It’s almost tooo dark. I’d definitely come back for a date if I’m trying to flex. Drinks felt a tad expensive but I understand. I bet it’s a different atmosphere at night. Recommend giving it a try.

We went there to try a speakeasy bar! The guy who opened the door wasn’t very smiley - not sure if that’s the vibe they are trying to create! Overall had a bit of vibe of a speakeasy but didn’t seem like a proper one - not much secretive or discreet ! The staff serving the drinks were friendly ! Cocktail that I tried was ok Definitely from a location point of view seemed like a popular place!

After two drinks each at the bar, with the absolutely amazing Ismael mixing magical concoctions, me and my friend agreed: this is the BEST bar in town- must be why the term “bar none” exists. Do get the “Hold, Please”: Banhez Mezcal, Crème de Cassis, Watermelon Shrub, Lemon, Juice, and Grapefruit Juice AND the “As Much as a Duck”: Banhez Mezcal, Famous Grouse Smoky Black Scotch. Stresa, Amaro Stumato, Lemon & Lime Juice, Cayenne and Egg White. The complexity of flavors in each drink is worth the price of admission: one is tangy, smoky and sweet, in that order; the other is creamy, sumptuous and a touch spicy. This is an experience worth paying for- wish this was closer to my home, but I would be there once a week at least. Insanely delicious.

Probably the best cocktails we've had in a long time. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with decision making. Atmosphere is just fantastic. Dimly lit, great music, and decor. Reservations recommended as it is quite small and there is no waiting area. Ring bell to get in. They do not serve meals, but have a snack menu with nuts, dried fruits, olives, charcuterie and various cheeses.

This place is amazing. The drinks are phenomenal (we did all the mezcal options) but the atmosphere and the service really made the difference. Kayla, our bartender, was the best part of the experience. A million stars.

Beautiful, unique, inventive cocktails. The bartenders are friendly and eager to hear what you are looking for in a cocktail. It can be off-putting to get into (basement, mandatory carding and unnecessary waiting) but it’s a classic Nee York cocktail bar and a very good one at that

This was my first time dining at The Up and Up, and I really strongly recommend this place. I wasn't aware that you needed to RSVP, but the staff was nice and had some avalibilty, so they let us dine in for an hour! I got the Happy Trails drink which is, as described, a take on a pineapple daiquiri, and the green drink was called a midori smash. We also finished the night with screen door slam. Of the 3 the screen door was my favorite. The tender we had was very knowledgeable and gave good recommendations according to taste preferences. They also gifted us some shots on the house for a special occasion. Overall the drinks were at a fair price and tasted great. We left feeling warm and very happy. Lovely dark and chill atmosphere and I'll definitely be returning <3

Kayla the mixologist is amazing. The cocktails were superb. The best I have ever had and I've traveled extensively and explored all over NYC. Also, I finally had ice that had an emblem on it. The cocktail I had on the rocks is a Happy Trails with Jananese Whiskey , Yuzu, pineapple and fennel among other things. My friend got the Meres Of Twilight which has gin, peach, honey, mild jalapeño, cucumber and lemon juice. Delicious! We were treated like Queens. The 20$ price tag for the cocktails is well worth this one of a kind experience.

Would highly recommend The Up & Up as a nice, sophisticated speakeasy! It's dimly lit and feels intimate and cozy- definitely a good date spot. There is a wide selection of creative drinks. I tried Bring June Flowers (reyka vodka, suze, jasmine tea, cucumber, and lemon juice). It was refreshing, quite cucumber-heavy but in a good way. Lots of ice though. Service was attentive and very knowledgeable on the drinks. Definitely ask the staff if you have questions or want recommendations. I'd come back again!

Great place for cocktails and small bites, completely different vibe (speakeasy-ish) than the street above. We had a reservation and at the door they checked our ID and vaccine proof. My fave cocktail was 'stay gold'. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit, but at $18 a drink, you can find plenty similar cocktail places in NYC.

Good, strong cocktails, but i didn't really like how waiter was pushing me drink more after two of my cocktails. He asked order any cocktail even non alcoholic. Than they said we limit of time to sit in table i wasnt mind sit in bar as well but in 3 min they change mind and said we can sit longer in table. Its was my first time there and i Dont think i will be back .
