We visited John's of Times Square on the advice of my Sister in law, who visits when she's in New York City. The restaurant is housed in an old church, with four brick pizza ovens installed on the back wall on two floors. There is a nice bar up front when you walk in, and a nice large dining room in the rear of the building. We started with some locally made lager beers on tap and a big, beautiful antipasti salad. The drinks and salad were served promptly by our server. The salad was crisp and delicious, with lovely little pinwheels of Soppressata and mozzarella. The house-made dressing was superb... Tangy and tossed perfectly into the salad. Mains were two large pizzas...One was pepperoni, mushrooms and (according to my bride) "REALLY GOOD sun-dried tomatoes". My pie was meatballs and pepperoni. Both pizzas had crispy, flavorful crusts, robust marinara sauce and ample toppings. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get over to John's of Times Square, but don't try to pop in for a slice.. Only whole pies are sold here 😁

This pizza place was great. Not only does it have a beautiful location but the experience was nice too. Our server was very friendly and efficient. The serving size of the salad was large and could definitely feed two people. The pizza was so good too. Very fresh ingredients and very flavorful. I would definitely go back for more.

Fabulous pizza place! So cool to walk around times square and then go to this awesome pizza place, just to walk in and it's located in a former church. The building and the ceiling is gorgeous. Pizza was delicious. I had the gluten free margarita, the crust is so good. One of my friends got a regular pepperoni, which was also delicious. Pizza is by the pie, no slices, therefore always made fresh!!

The food here was so yummy! I knew fried cheese would be delicious, but the marinara for dipping was over the top delicious. The Margherita pizza was perfection. One small pizza was more than enough for two of us. The atmosphere was exactly what I'd envisioned a New York City pizzeria to be like. The fact that it was once a church was a cool little fact. The stained glass ceiling was beautiful. I definitely recommend wandering a little off of Times Square, or before or after a Broadway show, and enjoy this gem.

This is some crazy great pizza! The Italian sausage in it was fantastic. Great cheese and the sauce is perfect or really close. Great service also which is hard to find in some places. Well be going back at least one more time on our trip here to NYC.

Awesome brick oven pizza in a beautiful former church. Plenty of room for small & big parties. Lots of choices to decide from + good drink options. Dine in, take out or delivery options available. Friendly & helpful wait staff.

Beautiful place! Only my third time ever. Good tasting pizza, but a little too much flop IMO. We asked for "thin and crispy" and server said "that's the only way we make em", but still came out too soft if you ask me. Calamari was very good. Good service overall. Host was fantastic, better than server. Pricey of course because of location. Beers are totally overpriced. Pizza toppings overpriced. Still, worth a visit at least once if visiting Times Square. I still prefer the Bleeker St. restaurant because the pies are crispier. I know technically they're not the same ownership because of the family split and lawsuits, but obviously there's a shared history and recipes. You say "whole pies", I say "no slices".

Amazing pizza and great atmosphere. The whole place looked stunning, with an amazing feeling. The staff were average and friendly. I got a salad which was good. It was fresh and refreshing, with a bit of spice which gave a nice contrast to the salad. The dressing was acidic and added great depth to the overall flavor. The pizza was amazing. The actual pizza was crispy but also soft. It gave an initial crunch, but was soft on the inside and the cheese mixed well with the tomatoes and basil. The crust was alright, not amazing but not horrible. Pretty average, maybe slightly above. It was too crunchy, more like a Olive Garden bread stick than a crust but it was still good. Overall amazing food and environment.

I’ll start by saying that this review is meant to help anyone who’s looking for a gluten-free pizzeria in Manhattan, NYC. We visited this place after reading they serve pizza with gluten-free crust. This was by far THE WORST gluten-free pizza I had ever tasted. It was like eating mozzarella cheese on a cardboard! I don’t recommend at all. As you can see, it ain’t cheap either so I recommend everyone considering, do your research before you go, there are better options across the city. Otherwise, the service was reasonable and the building itself is pretty cool.

Swung by last minute before a show to try and get in another quick pizza place for our own version of a pizza tour and was so glad they were able to seat us right away! Because it was our second favorite pizza of the trip! Definitely worth it! Got the 6 slices cheese pizza since the smaller size was gluten free only, and it was great. The sauce was a little sweeter, and the bottom crust was thin and crispy with a little thicker crust at the end. Service was great! And super quick and attentive since we were in a hurry. And loved that they didn’t hate our guts for sharing a small pizza! Must try!

John's of Times Square offers a quintessential New York City dining experience with its historic ambiance and delectable pizza. Housed in a former church, the restaurant's unique setting adds charm to the dining atmosphere. The star of the show is undoubtedly the pizza. Prepared in coal-fired ovens, the thin-crust pizza boasts a perfect balance of crispiness and flavor. The toppings are fresh and generously applied, making each slice a delightful experience for pizza enthusiasts. The interior of John's exudes a vintage feel, with high ceilings and stained glass windows creating a warm and inviting space. The communal seating arrangement adds a communal, family-friendly vibe to the dining experience, making it suitable for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings. The staff at John's contributes to the overall positive experience, providing friendly and efficient service. Despite its popularity and location in the bustling Times Square area, the restaurant manages to maintain a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. While the restaurant is known for its pizza, the menu also offers a variety of Italian-American classics, catering to a range of tastes. Prices are reasonable considering the prime location and the quality of the food. In summary, John's of Times Square is a must-visit for pizza aficionados and anyone looking to savor a slice of New York's culinary history. The combination of delicious pizza, historic ambiance, and friendly service makes it a standout dining destination in the heart of Times Square.

The history of this place is what's so captivating. I highly recommend to go read about it on their website. The service here makes you feel like an important customer. Even when you order take out. They are fast and efficient. Ample, ample room especially for NYC. The pizza is delicious. The traditional slice has a subtle sauce which works together with the cheese. They went a little to heavy on the basil for the Margherita but I still enjoyed it. Takeout comes with Parmesan and crushed pepper. And let me tell you, the best Parmesan and crushed pepper I've ever had. NO SLICES btw

Iconic for New York so we had to try! Service was so-so… had lunch around 12pm. We started with bruschetta. It was missing something. Flavor Our friends had the fried ravioli. It was better that the bruschetta. I ordered a the margherita pizza with pepperoni. It was a decent pizza. Don’t think it’s all the hype but hey. My wife built her own pizza that ended up being $50…. Seriously. It definitely wasn’t worth it. The place was beautiful. Seems like something you have to see and eat when in this part of the country.

Beautiful restaurant with the best pizza I've ever had. Even with a crazy busy lunch rush, they had us seated, fed, and out the door on time. Can't wait to go back.

The pizza was very good. It was not too soft or floury, the crust was so good, I usually don’t eat crust. Service was good, nothing extraordinary, but it is a busy place. It had a great atmosphere and inside a beautiful building. Don’t let the outside appearance fool you. I think it’s a must when in NYC.

For our first night in NYC, we asked our hotel clerk where to get some good New York pizza and he recommended John’s. It was Sunday night of a 3-day weekend and the place was packed and we had to wait. By the time we were seated, we didn’t have time for pizza, so we ordered fried ravioli and pasta with vodka sauce. The ravioli were cold in the center, but the pasta more than made up for that. John’s Vodka Sauce is absolutely amazing!!! We enjoyed John’s so much that we returned the next night to actually have pizza which was wonderful. The service is great and the food was incredible! Don’t miss out on John’s!

The food was great. We had half of the pizza be mushroom and chicken and the other half just pepperoni. The mushroom and chicken was much better and I’m a pepperoni fan. The pepperoni was still really good too. Great pizza if you’re around Times Square and looking for a good place to eat.

SOOO GOOD!! Coal fired pizza, built into an old converted church. It is busy but seats a ton of people. There are 4 separate brick ovens for pizza so that comes out pretty fast. HIGHLY recommend this place. Expect a wait time because it is so good and popular.

Real good pizza joint. Had the Margherita pizza with pepperoni, crust was just right and pepperoni was high quality. Good for a quick bite to get your pizza fix in an indoor setting It being a converted church is pretty cool

I've had celiac for 16 years and this is hands down the best Gluten Free pizza I've ever had. It's the taste and chewiness of the crust that separates it. 🤯 It's the bottom one in the picture.

The moment I walked in, the inviting aroma of freshly baked pizza set the stage for a memorable meal. I opted for their Traditional New York pizza, and I was instantly impressed. The crust was thin and crisp, providing the perfect foundation for the vibrant tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and fragrant basil.

There is GREAT pizza near Times Square! A family of four adults we all ate a lot of pizza had some beers and even with the tip it was under $75. I highly recommend this place and the converted church is awesome with a beautiful stained glass skylight and don't forget to say hi to Billy at the bar! This was our first time in New York City from the West Coast and we were thrilled to find such a wonderful establishment so close to times Square. Don't miss it!

Good pizza. I would try to tone your visit during an off hour. Like a brunch or a linner time. It gets very busy. The building used to be an old church. It's very cool inside.

Had to stop in here. Stopped in on a Friday night, busy as heck. I was able to get a seat at the bar. All I wanted was a pie. The service was fast, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere and interior was beautiful. Absolutely stunning on the. The menu looked great but I was there for the pie. Straight up pie. The pizza was very very good. Love the lightly char crust and flavorful sauce. High quality cheese and pepperonis. John's of Bleeker is better. But this is still ultra delicious pizza. Definitely go to this place! I will be back!

Better than average place but honestly nothing impressive. Convenient that it’s right there in the Broadway district & they’re open a lil later for those who come out after the evening show is over can still get some food. They keep their menu basic which normally is a good thing. My drink was pretty good as well. Service was pretty good as well. Ambience was nothing too notable but like that it’s very open & spacious. Their brick oven is a nice touch as well.

Who would think that in the middle of Times Square there would be a great pizza place in an old converted church. Well here it is. The owners renovated an old tabernacle church and are serving the best coal fired pizza. Everything is made to order so plan on sitting for awhile as you watch the pizza makers make your pie. Trust me… the pizza is the best and this is my favorite pizza in NYC.

I had eaten at John’s previously but not since being diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease in 2015. I ordered a takeout gluten free pizza with pepperoni and requested it extra crispy. The crust was fresh, airy and impeccably crisp. It had the perfect proportions of sauce, cheese and pepperoni making it truly delectable. The aromatic zest was truly mouthwatering making each bite better than the previous! It was the ideal size (10”) and left me satisfyingly full but not feeling like I ate too much. Overall this pizza was truly amazing and has earned a place in my top 3 gluten free pizzas of all time. I highly recommend it and will definitely go back there again, two thumbs up!!! 👍👍

This place is really good. We got seats very quickly and the food didn’t take very long either. The margherita pizza was really good and so were the Buffalo wings but was quite pricey. $30 for a large pizza and $18 for wings. Overall a nice place to eat some good pizza for an expensive price.

Amazing pizza with a choice to add toppings! When I am in New York, always go there for a pizza. It is always delicious, cheesy and not greasy. For some may be an issue they don’t do free refills on sodas. I love the additional toppings choice. The service is always fast. The place is huge, so even if there is a queue to wait for the table, it usually doesn’t take that long, because the turnaround is quick. Pizza is the best.

I have not tried many pizza places in New York so I may not be the best reviewer here, but it was very good! John’s rolls were delicious! Pizza was great. Like the pepperoni more than the margarita. Atmosphere what very cool! An old church renovated, very neat history. Wait times were not that bad either, which is alway great. Will be back :)

One of the best pizza and garlic cheese bread I have had in New York. It's situated right at the Times Square and near Broadway so grab a bite before or after any shows/events. The only issue is you might have to wait if you are going at peak hours especially dinner time. We ended up waiting for 30 minutes easily on the two nights we visited but it was so worth it. They have vegetarian options as well and they also make half pie veg and half pie non veg pizzas. Their pasta was great too and their marinara sauce is extremely fresh and tangy. We loved it so much that we ordered it extra for our pizza as well and they didn't charge extra. The interiors are of a former church gives a very antique and unique vibe to this whole place.

As former Manhattan Knights, John's was a routine stop for many of our visitors visitors as they were taken in by the unique Stained Glass Windows still visible on the inside. The Pizza is better than average and the Sandwiches are decent, and the Appetizers are better than average… such as the Fried Calamari which is tasty with a good was a good Gravy on the side. It is the atmosphere and the good weight staff that really make this a worthwhile stop for visitors.
