Randalls Island (sometimes called Randall's Island) and Wards Island are conjoined islands, collectively called Randalls and Wards Islands, in New York County, New York City,[1][2][3] separated from Manhattan Island by the Harlem River, from Queens by the East River and Hell Gate, and from the Bronx by the Bronx Kill. The two islands were formerly separated, with Randalls Island to the north of Wards Island. The channel between them, Little Hell Gate, was infilled by the early 1960s.[4] A third, smaller island, Sunken Meadow Island, was located east of Randalls Island and was connected to it in 1955. Randalls and Wards Islands Looking southwest; Randalls Island is in the foreground and Wards Island is behind it. Roosevelt Island and Manhattan can be seen in the background. The island also has a history of being used for asylums, hospitals, and cemeteries, and is currently home to several public facilities, including a psychiatric hospital known as the Manhattan Psychiatric Center, Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center a Drug and Alcohol Treatment facility named Odyssey House, a daycare, 2 state police stations, FDNY fire academy, a DEP wastewater treatment plant, Icahn Stadium, HELP Clarke Thomas Mens Homeless Shelter, Keener Employment Homeless Mens Shelter, Schwartz Homeless Mens Shelter, HELP USA Supportive Employment Center, and an Urban Farm. Outside of these institutions and buildings, there is no residential housing for the general public on the island. The island is crossed by the Triborough and Hell Gate bridges. The island can be reached by the Triborough Bridge; the Wards Island Bridge, which serves pedestrians and bicyclists and links the island to East Harlem in Manhattan; or by the Randalls Island Connector, a pedestrian and cycling bridge crossing the Bronx Kill and connecting to the Port Morris neighborhood of the Bronx. Randalls Island is the home of three music festivals: Governors Ball Music Festival, Panorama Music Festival, and Electric Zoo Festival.

I absolutely love this place. First of all, it's really big. There are so many great choices of places to spend your time. If you're looking for a place to take a long run or bike ride, you're going to love it. You can ride or run for a loooooong time without covering the same ground. Secondly, it has everything you could ask for in terms of a day at the park. Baseball fields, tennis courts, bike paths, picnic areas, shady hillsides, soccer fields, nature trails, gardens, fishing, and more. Parking isn't a problem at all because there are lots all over the island. Just a perfect escape. 👌🏻

We have been to Randall's Island so many times for flag football games over the years. This park is the premier place to play flag football in NYC. Also, there are a ton of organized softball & soccer leagues played here as well. While Randall's Island is kind of a pain in the butt to get to, this park is such a special place for NYC residents. It's really the crown jewel park for athletic events in the city.

Definitely one of my favorite go-to places to get away from the city while still being in the city. From the breathtaking views to the beautiful trails, this is one of the places where I'll always find myself going back to.

Beautiful island for cycling, running, or just chilling and grilling. However the waste water facility smells horrible.

Great urban walk, worth the toll. The island could use a bit better signage on the trails, but we managed to find everything. If you are looking for the wetlands (which you definitely should check out) put Field #29 in your GPS.

It’s a huge quiet island to explore and escape the city. Everything from horses, tennis, ball fields; salt marsh, stadium and trails. My favorites are the bicycle repair stations added for emergency air and tools. No food or stores so come prepared. A few bike/pedestrian bridges to Manhattan and biking he Bronx. The Tribourough Bridge is not ideal, watch the stairs

Had a car wash on the asphalt lot by the Icahn stadium and it was amazing. The grounds keeper and park event coordinator were helpful and accommodating.

One of the hidden gems in New York (to me) I didn't know about this place but I'm glad I found it A very great place to chill with your family or just spend time alone A big space where you can walk, jog, run or cycle around.❤️

Exquisite. A free adult playground with multiple playing fields neatly kept. I highly recommend bike riding through here. It’s an island so it’s surrounded by water. Not much food so bring a snack.

This place is very beautiful and in my opinion the best way to get around and enjoy its beauty is on a bike. Weather you bring your own or rent a city bike at the entrance. The only down side was the lock of drink/food places, it looks like they currently have this part of the park under construction. An alternative would be to bring your own drinks/food. My boys and I had a great time riding the city bikes all around and enjoyed the beautiful views very much.

As a spectator, this is one of my FAVORITE stadiums to watch meets. It's spacious, comfortable, and you can see well no matter where you sit. My children used to run here a lot and they loved it as well.

We attended the season opener for track. It was blistering cold! Due to the winds and temperature. Great facility otherwise.

This place leaves a lasting impression. I can’t even believe that this is in the center of the metropolis. Great opportunity for a family holiday. And in the evening, a very exciting place with a gorgeous view of the city where life does not stop even for a second. And the fact that it is on the river makes this place even more peculiar.

Randall's Island Park is a total winner! Winter, spring, or summer, this place rocks! Stunning winter views, vibrant spring blooms, and endless summer fun. Honestly, Randall’s Island Park is the place to be, no matter the time of year. It’s got everything you need for a good time – nature, awesome facilities, and a chill vibe. Do yourself a favor and check it out. You won’t be disappointed!

This is one if the places in New York City far away from the tourist route and it is GREAT! You can get there walking. As easy as it sounds, or better, biking. Weekday is the beat tiene to go visit. Relaxing with amazing views. Areas for BBQ. Etc.

Once of the best parks in NY. My first time going I got stuck on the island for a hour going on circles because I couldn't find the bike path back to Manhattan! The scenery was amazing though.
