A melange of unique shops, cafes, and restaurants for every persuasion from top to bottom. Very exceptional upper floor open seated dining area for customers, students, to eat, study, relax, overlooking the street traffic below. Very beautiful interiors. Outstanding architectural brevity—award winning design!

Lots of good food. We had some of the best Pizza we've had in New York while there. The crust was perfectly crispy and tasty cheese and toppings. There are also some small grocery stores there. The only bad thing is they need more seating.

This place is terrific. Multiple levels of food stalls, purveying a large selection of food and drink, including meat, seafood, fresh produce, beverages of many types, herbs, spices, olive oils, cheeses, and more. There are also several places to sit down and enjoy drinks and/or prepared meals. I live in Seattle and while this is not as large as the Public Market at Pike Place, it's somewhat similar in vibe. Worth exploring both as a NYC resident or visitor.

Interesting industrial atmosphere. There’s tons of little shops endearingly crammed up the ceiling with countless varieties of rice cakes and cheerios. The good stuff is upstairs, but as I recall there were some pseudo authentic noodle places in the basement.

This place is a fantastic indoor market! 🛒 Essex Market has an endless selection of delicious 🤤 food stands 🍱 offering cheese 🧀, meat 🍖, pizza 🍕, sweets 🧁, fish 🐟, donuts 🍩, bagels 🥯, and so much more alongside stocked groceries stores! 🏪 It's so fun to walk 🚶 around here and explore 🔍 the market. I wish I came here more often and had more time here! ⏳

Nice market on the lower East Side. High quality food vendors and plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs. A nice grocery store and specialty shops. Fresh fruit, veggies, fish, spices and gourmet cheese. All small businesses under one roof. Love the cheese shop they have some new and unique cheeses.

This is a super cool two level food hall and market on the Lower East Side. This is one of the better food halls in Manhattan. My favorite restaurant was the place downstairs serving Ukrainian and Eastern European dishes like Paprika Chicken and Goulash. I want to go back and try other places as well.

I read the reviews about this place and I expected more from the places I went to. The pizza was okay. It's nice to sit on the second floor and watch people below in the market. I watched the pizza guy pet a dog, wipe his hands on a towel and then touch a bunch of pizza. The empanadas were good but dry, you really need to dip them in the sauce. The bacon egg and cheese was okay but the eggs were pre mixed so you could only get scrambled. The chai from the coffee and tea place was better than the Porto Rico coffee place. The small grocery stores were well stocked with a variety of foods and snacks. I would like to go back and try some more foods from different places. It would be very hard to eat at all of them in one visit.

Visited Essex Market to see Rachel's Cake Pops. I follow her on Instagram bc I myself have a personal cake pop business and love her work. Did not get to meet her. But her cake pops did not disappoint.

Que Chevere! Another Instagram find. Stopped by hungry after the Breast Cancer Walk and we were not disappointed. Pastelillos and Yuca Alcapurria's were crunchy and tasty. We tried the pernil and bistec both flavorful. Arroz con gandules and their habichuelas guisada were a hit. We also had their sweet plantains (piping hot!) and tostones(nice and crunchy)-both delicious. Definitely glad we stopped by. Thank you!

It’s a cool place that combines all of the good shops and restaurants. I checked the some fun spots in east village. And this place popped out during the search. First of all, I like the design of this place. Very cool and modern and also looks bright and clean. The on the ground level, you can find some shops or grocery shops. From the pasta to fresh fish and meat, literally can find anything. And underground level has more restaurants. Verb New York, different food from Chinese to seafood/Mediterranean. Also like they presented the cultural corner about the local background and shows the diversity. Super nice

I used to come to the market when I was at your own child and this new one is awesome. All the products that are there are fresh and everything is clean. You can find things All different types of cheese, meats, and coffee just to name a few. I highly recommend this place to find all your Spanish ingredients that you may need to make your superb meals.

This market wasn't even on our radar until a local mentioned it. We had previously visited Chelsea Market and it was full of tourists. This market, instead, was not as busy but filled with quality stalls and vendors. It seems they're still adding more vendors and are remodeling additional spaces. Worth a visit, especially if you want to avoid the crowds at other markets.

A nice modern market! I briefly stopped in to browse and charge my phone, but the open space felt nice on such a sunny day. The staff was super helpful as the bathrooms need codes to enter.

This place is so big and expansive I wish I lived closer so I could try everything. They have so much it’s quite overwhelming, but it’s definitely the best of these types of markets/food halls I’ve been to.

Essex Market is awesome. I stumbled across this place by accident while looking for lunch when I was in Lower East Side for a concert. I’ve now gone out of my way to visit again because of how great the market is. There are tons of stalls with fresh food, coffee, cocktails and more. The prices, from the stalls I’ve bought from, are great!

Love the selection of vendors in the revamped Essex Market. Shopsins and Essex Pearl are the standouts for me, but there is something for everyone here!

Tons of great food and gift options at affordable prices! The market is easily walkable, and you’ll find hidden treasures throughout. Do not sleep on this one when you’re in the area, especially!

Love the different types if food, although would like to see more cultures. It's very clean and spacious, but dreary atmosphere. Needs a little more lighting. Need more kid friendly food

We absolutely loved this market. The food vendors here were fantastic. Everything from vegan options, to Peurto Rican food to Italian, to desserts to vegan cheese. The options here were endless. They have fresh produce as well. Prices were affordable. There was plenty of seating as well in the basement as well as in the upstairs. The washrooms were very clean which is a nice bonus. Would definitely recommend eating here, especially if you're visiting the Tenement Museum like we did. 5/5. Follow me for more reviews and travel tips.

I can't believe how far this below ground market has come over the years. Eclectic blend of little shops, food spots, and bars. Even music from a DJ station. Pretty clean too. The food items we tasted were really good, and the ambiance was NYC personified in the very best of ways

Love this place. You can food shop, eat at food court and see a movie all at one place. The M15 bus to Delancey St and walk a few blocks get you there or multiple train lines goes there. I found my new after work movie spot. 👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂

I've come here for years. It was a great place. I usually will buy coffee and snacks. I've been a visitor since before much of the staff and many of the vendors came in. But in recent years, management has hired less-than-trustworthy people in their janitorial and security. Not all as I greet some and stop to talk. There is a low level of abuse in this place, particularly in the lower level and including one vendor. I don't know that management cares having reported it. Tonight, security asked me to leave because I was "not a customer." The other people sitting around were supposedly customers and allowed to sit. One cleaner who has been abusive was nearby and the security person confirmed it was him who told him. Seating areas in recent years close at the whim of whoever is calling the shots that night. Not always at the Essex prescribed hour. I left without incident. It's really disappointing.
