In my heart of hearts I know that this isn't necessarily my type of venue, or "scene" but I can't be unfair. I can't leave a negative review because they did everything right for the demographic that they are trying to reach in their part of Manhattan. The place almost feels like a bar with how loud the music is in conjunction to its warm ambiance, no one is partying and dancing but that music will make you feel like you're in that type of space. The interior design of the restaurant is beautiful, the seating area is cool, the open kitchen is a quirk, this place is an experience for sure. The Food to me was, expected — I was expecting that price for eight piece chicken, I was expecting that price for Ramen, and that's honestly fine. I just didn't enjoy myself there and that is no one's fault. If you're curious on visiting this place, please do. Go for a special occasion. I just didn't like it This isn't a place to have lunch with friends, this is a place to "go out" and impress. Great date spot if anything.

Probably the best Ramen I've ever had. They earned their Michelin stars for a reason, and it shows in every single dish. The balance of each and every broth combined with the fresh ingredients keep the broth breathtakingly rich yet light. My only regret is that I could not fit another bowl in my stomach. Absolutely worth a visit and any kind of wait.

The first thing you need to know is you should have a reservation or plan to wait. When I showed up for our reservation the host was so overwhelmed by walk-ins he forgot who I was between me checking in and tapping on the window to have my guests join me inside. First impressions aside the space is beautifully designed with the kitchen at the rear of the space but open to the dining room so you can see all the action. The menu is slightly different from a typical ramen joint as one of their unique offerings is “rice balls” each being served slightly differently. The shishito peppers are a small but mighty serving. While you only get 10 they pack a flavored seasoning that makes them a solid choice. The gyoza are also unique here as they are served in a hot cast iron pan and a starch broth is poured over them table side making for a nice sizzling platter. Unlike traditional gyoza there are not stuck together but more individual dumplings. They don’t need the chili sauce but you do you. There are three different styles of ramen dry mazemen noodles, dipping noodles, and classic ramen noodles. We tried the Ban Ban Kinoko, the smoky dashi ramen, and the classic tonkatsu. All were delicious. The smoky dashi was super earthy and rich with a slight slickness on the surface of the broth. The noodles had just the right bite and there were at least a dozen clams in the soup. We did not order the shaved ice dessert but it is huge and quite popular. All in all, I was very impressed and will come back to try a few different items. Of course, I will be making a reservation as no one should ever wait 2hrs to eat.

Noodles itself average level, but the quality of meat 👍👍. Great vibe in the restaurant. The dessert was special. Banana base but with butter and nut that made the texture tasted like cake. It's Michelin ranked restaurant.

Many of my colleagues love this place for the Tonkotsu Ramen. However, I found their foods generally extremely salty, and I hate to eat salty meals. I chose MajeRamen and salad bowl. How could the salad be tooooo salty? =(

The mango shaved ice is amazing and I would go back just for it alone. The ramen was pretty standard for good ramen. Flavor was rich, but the pork was sliced super thin and the menma /bamboo was not tender and fibrous/woody. We went without reservations at an off peak hour and were seated quickly.

Fantastic Ramen ! Please make a reservation or be prepared to wait because this place is extremely popular and always busy for good reasons: the food is delicious and service is attentive to your needs. I tried the spicy, the fish and the traditional ramen. Each of them was excellent and I recommend visiting this place multiple times to enjoy them all. I'd advise to ask for hard noodles, but that's my preference. Waiters are very kind and do a great service. I can't wait to visit this restaurant again; I love it.

We went on the 8th and the food was so good we made a reservation for the next day to come back again! I got the spicy tan tan, my husband got the vegan option. Both were DELICIOUS! The broth of the spicy tan tan had me seeing god. It brought a tear to my eye. They do a lunch combo that is a good value. We did the salad one day and a mushroom bun the other. The buns were so good but the standout to me between the two was the salad because the dressing was so good. The shaved ice was amazing for dessert! We got the mango both times because why mess with a good thing although the matcha one looked amazing when we saw someone else order it. They even wrote happy birthday in chocolate for my husband on the plate and put a little candle which was so cute and nice!! Our server was super nice and on top of everything! We had the same person both days which is a treat! I would return, and will as soon as I am in the city again. It took all my willpower to not buy one of the super cute 6th anniversary shirts or hoodies while we were there. Go, bring friends, it’s amazing.

The ramen was okay, but I expected better from a Michelin Guide restaurant. My friends and I came here for lunch and were excited to get something warm because it was a cold day! Since they don't take (call in advance) lunch reservations, we had to go to Tonchin to put our name down, and they wait 45 minutes to be seated. This wasn't too bad, though, as we just shopped in the area until our table was ready. The place was more spacious than we expected, so we could comfortably sit and hear each other. I ordered the Tsukune buns because my friend said they were really good, and they definitely lived up to the high price and expectations! Those were easily the best buns I have ever had because the meat was so juicy and well-seasoned, and the bun part was so fluffy that it just melted in my mouth! The buns were easily the highlight of the day! It is just unfortunate that the ramen was no way near as good... I got the dipping spicy goma tsukemen, and it was just not spicy (and, in fact, more bland than anything). It was not worth the extra price to get these as dipping ramen because the broth was not concentrated (which I heard is pivotal for dipping ramen). My friends got the classic Tokyo and Spicy Tan Tan, respectively, and also said their dishes were just okay. My friend who came here before and recommended the spicy buns said she remembers the ramen being better, and this time, it was pretty mediocre. I did try a bit of hers (classic Tokyo), and it was at least more flavorful than mine. Lastly, maybe this is how dipping ramen is supposed to be (this was my first time ever having it), but the broth was lukewarm when I would've liked it hotter.... overall, I'm leaving a bit disappointed and would only come back for the buns because they were SO good. I hate to give this place 3 stars because I feel like it's more of a 3.5 because of the buns but I feel like the ramen just does not compete with some of the other ramen places I have given 4 stars too. Also, this ramen is pricier than some of the better spots that I have been to when it definitely did not deserve to be...

We got in around 5 on a Saturday and there was an hour wait but there was room at the community table so we sat there. The service was great and we got our food pretty quickly. The Curry Wings were delicious and a great portion. The Spicy Tan Tan Broth wasn’t my favorite but the noodle texture was great. My partner got the regular Tonkatsu and the broth was absolute delicious so I’ll definitely be getting that next time I go!

Not so easy to see. They have small sign. The Michelin Guide Star ⭐️ is the real attraction to why diners like this place. The food is delicious. Many reviewers here complain about the service here, especially during peak hours. However we did not experience any poor service. New York City prices so bring your Credit Cards 💳. Definitely worth a try, especially if you’re Ramen 🍜 fan. I liked that the pork was thinly sliced. We will definitely be going back.

Blew me away! The food was crazy good, a culinary delight and party of flavors in my mouth - all beautifully balanced. Picked up a friend from Grand Central Station and took her to lunch here. We were both amazed. Service was excellent. Clean establishment. Anyone who comes to visit me will eat here. I can’t wait to go back. Can you tell I’m excited?

Great ramen! The broth was very flavorful and had the perfect amount of thickness - not too overwhelming or oily. Shaved ice dessert was awesome as well. The service was also super attentive, one of the best I’ve experienced in the K-town area! :) Definitely recommend coming here ☺️ Will be revisiting for sure.

Remen, tsukaman… the soup was perfectly flavored and rich. The richness surely comes from slow cooked for longer time. The egg was perfectly cooked as well. Pork-chicken buns and tempura bite was another delicious option on their meal.. A heartfelt thank you to everyone making this amazing experience.

Food is as good as last time. However the waiter keeps checking us in a frequency that almost feels like she wants us to rush up and finish the food so she could clean the table to serve more people. She checked three to four times even when we still had food on our plates. This is my second time visiting and it's not a nice experience. Foods are great as always though.

The food was exceptional, especially the tantan dry noodle, rich flavor in sesame paste, love it! This place is a little too crowded even for Manhattan, I can reach my neighbors' chicken wings if i wan. Shaved ice is not recommend

Amazing ramen! All the dishes that I ordered were phenomenal. We were super late for our reservation due to the new year’s crazy traffic, but the host was so kind and welcomed us. So happy that my family and I got the chance to try the ramen!!

One of my Top 3 go-to ramen places in Manhattan. Authentic flavors right here! A lot of options to choose from as well, and very nice vibe inside. Add to that with a friendly staff. Perfect! Just don't forget to make reservations to avoid long lines.

A nice pop in. Wait time depends on the day but the food is delicious. Went with my picky taste bud friend and he loves it. Ramen. Amazing. & they have these buns. Love. Dim lighting. Coupling music. But if the place is full enough you barely hear it because of the chatter but it's not overbearing. For 2 people we spend about $60, not including tip. Worth it for sure. * it's easy to miss if you don't look up for the flag they have outside so keep a sharp eye.

Amazing! The flavors, the range, the deliciousness. I can definitely say I don't think it is over rated. The summer noodles were a great addition, especially if you don't want a lot of broth or anything hot.

Walk in for lunch. This place is very busy. There is a bar in the front and tables at the back. Wait wasn’t too bad and we got a shared table seat with 6 other strangers within 20 mins. Food quality is good however I find the soup base is a little too oily and salty. Noddle is definitely different from other ramen places we have been to( including in Japan, I find it’s a little too soft). Price is reasonable and service was great. The atmosphere is great.

This restaurant received Michael star continuously for 3 years (2019-2021). We went here for lunch and unfortunately didn’t had a reservation. Had to wait 50 minutes to get a table. So please reserve a table before if you ever plan to visit this restaurant. We ordered the following items: 1. Kinoko Bun - it came with layer of egg salad and grilled mixed mushrooms. The bun was soft and was melting in the mouth. 2. Miso Ginger Ramen - I’m not a ginger fan, but I liked this ramen. The flavor was ginger wasn’t strong so that was nice for me. Surprisingly, they didn’t put mushrooms or tofu in here. I believe adding these items will increase the flavor of ramen. 3. Ban ban kinoko - one of the best peanut noodle I ever had. One must try this!! Overall, the portion size was big. Be mindful of the wait time. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Second time I've been here. First was three years ago. I'm glad to report quality is still the same. The spicy tan tan is a standout. My girlfriend really liked the vegan offerings here. Her ramen was the best vegan ramen either of us have ever tasted.

The handmade noodle is so good, as well as their soup. The coffee shaved Ice is surprisingly good. Fresh cream on top, strong flavor of coffee ice layered on top of vanilla ice cream. Will be back again.

They accept both walk ins and reservations. We walked in for table for 2 around 6pm Sunday night and got seated around 15 min. So not bad at all. We got.. 1) chicken bun which was delicious. 2) gyoza, honestly it was just ok. 3) Classic Tokyo ramen The chicken bun was really good, highly recommend. I would say skip the gyoza. The ramen broth was rich and flavorful, the char sui was a little too thin and dry for my liking but my partner likes it. The noodles were good. The scallions were a nice touch. Service was good. It was about $91 USD total. So I would say about the same price as other ramen joints like Ichiran. I would say if you are around the area and wanting ramen definitely check it out but I wouldn't travel out of the way for it.

We booked this a month ago and paid $30 to reserve. (EDIT) OOPS! I thought I was charged $30, but I was not, my bad!! Food: Spicy tan tan Gyoza Tokyo Ramen 6 piece Tebaski Match Shaved Iced Not in the picture, appetizer: Shishito was sooo good!! Not in the picture, drink: Chu-hi was alright, it's like a very light highball. Almost like coorslight on ice. Everything we had was sooooo goood, also I was starving after work! I left here FULL! With this many food and appetizers, you need 3 people to do the work. We didn't include the other drink and 3 dishes that our friend order, we don't have pictures, but it came out to $190 including tip. Our waitress was awesome and sweet! This place is the vibes to catch up with friends. You could almost join in on other people conversation, it's a cozy place hahah

This place apparently has a michelin star so came to try this place out. Super long lines, we waited an extra hour to get seats. The ramen here is really good, i think their standard tonkotsu is their best however. This place definitely holds the crown for one of the best ramen spots in NYC in my opinion. For appetizers, the peppers is not bad as well as the shoe string fries. The bon bon chicken was not that good. The spicy wings were excellent however, definitely recomended. The Kakigori (shaved ice) dessert was quite good as well.

Tonchin’s food is DELICIOUS! The service is amazing as well. Our server answered all our questions about the store and the mango shaved ice. Our noodles were on point! I had the summer noodles which had a hint of peanut butter and I loved it. My partner had a hot noodle soup and the broth was perfect, not too heavy and contained the flavor of the pork.

You can taste the high quality ingredients. Unagi rice ball was pretty good, perfect amount of eel to rice to sauce ratio. The curry cheese chicken wings tasted like instant ramen seasoning. It was decent but not the flavor I expected. Classic tonkatsu ramen was okay. The cha siu was amazing, thin large pieces with great lean to fat ratio. Noodles were cooked perfectly. Egg, bamboo shoots, etc, you can tell each individual item was sourced well. But again, the flavor of the soup threw me off. It was more soy sauce based than tonkatsu. I ate around the soup, trying not to drink it too much. Otherwise, staff were friendly. Ambiance will impress if you are with company. Overall didn't feel like I was the demographic of people they're catering to.

Amazing ramen and worth the wait! Went without a reservation on a Wednesday evening during the holidays and had a 2 hour wait which isn’t bad because you can explore a lot of other things around the area. Both the classic and the spicy tan tan really impressed us and were definitely worth the hype. The broth was perfectly flavoured and the meat was so tender and nice, loved it! Service was fast, courteous and simple just like it should be. Definitely recommend checking it out

Did a walk in about 4 pm on a Saturday and we were lucky to only have to wait for 30 mins. Sadly we didn’t get a table just at the bar but nuance wasn’t even bad. The chicken wings is to die for. I got the smoked ramen but it was aight. My bf got the classic and the broth was awesome just the perfect amount of flavor. Drink was reasonably priced, the grapefruit mock tail and the matcha lemonade is refreshing. Lastly dessert was the highlight it was a mango shaved ice with some cream on top that was so huge but it was sooo good. Service was quick and ambiance is casual but contemporary or jazzy, a perfect place to go if u wanna impress ur date, friends or fam not to mention it was Michelin for 3 years straight

This place is terrific! The vegetarian ramen had too much ginger but other than that every part of the experience was absolutely perfect- from the service and the atmosphere to the food itself. Such a great experience, highly recommend anyone in New York to dedicate an evening to this restaurant, because it’s one of a kind!

  • 5/5 Philip C. 2 years ago on Google
The homemade lemonades are refreshing and the ramen and tsukumen was one of the best I've had. We had their appetizers, but the star of the show was really their main dishes.

  • 5/5 Zachary T. 2 years ago on Google
Really good Ramen! Also good for solo lunch on weekdays. Need reservations for the booths though, FYI. The pepper appetizer I got as part of a lunch combo wasn’t notable (but that’s fine). Enjoyed the seasonal cider from a can though, hadn’t had that before.

This a Michelin star Japanese restaurant 3 years running. Reservations via Resy are highly recommended. The richness and authenticity of the the ramen here definitely helps Tonchin earn its rating. My friend and I ordered the bites sampler which included the crispy garlic salt shishito, zesty tonchin tonchin cucumber and the vegan oyster mushroom. The crispy fried garlic with the lightly grilled shishito was perfect. Great textures and extra crunch in every bite made it delicious. If you love cucumbers and mushrooms definitely order this sampler. My friend and I ordered the classic Tonkotsu and the miso ginger ramen. The Tonkotsu broth was perfect with the right amount of balance, flavor and salt. The roasted cha-shu pork was thinly sliced and perfect with each spoonful of broth. The vegetarian miso ginger broth packed a lot heat. Beware if you can't handle the spicy level you'll be sweating the whole night. We really enjoyed our experience here. Flavors are on point and even with the Michelin star you won't be breaking the bank. Expect a 60-90 minute way on prime busy weekend evenings. I will definitely be back to try some of their cocktails and other ramen broths.

Lunch special for $24 considering the ramen and a side while not a steal is still good. The staff is attentive and kind, which is rare for a place this busy. The ramen is good it's not going to blow your mind if you have been to Japan or eaten other places. If you have not then it probably will. Worth going a little out of the way for a reasonably priced lunch or dinner.

Decided to eat here when we got caught up in heavy rain. Thankfully they had bar seating so went for it and all regular tables were unavailable. Started off with drinks which were really good. For food we only ordered their ramens, the classic tonkatsu and the spicy tan tan. I had the classic tonkatsu which I felt was good but a bit underwhelming given this is a Michel starred restaurant. I tried the spicy tan tan ramen my partner ordered and I liked it better than the classic tonkatsu ramen. For desert , we had their popular shaved ice with mango which was a large size but pretty light and we could easily finish it by sharing . Will be back if in the area again.

Great Michelin star restaurant in the city. It's usually packed so try to rsvp ahead of time if possible. I had the ramen which was stood I just wish they had more non pork options. I also enjoyed their shrimp rice balls and shaved ice.

9.5/10. This is one of the best ramens or probably the best ramen I’ve ever had in my entire life. The dessert reminded me of the banana pudin from Magnolia Bakery. Everything was absolutely delicious and I would definitely come back and I’ll recommend it to all my friends. I left you guys the receipt, we got so much food and for all the food we ordered that would’ve been more expensive at any other place. It’s not only delicious, it’s also affordable. I love this place!!!

This has got to be my favorite ramen restaurant in Manhattan. Hands down. It’s always hard to find ramen for vegetarians and if you do, it’s bland. This one is carefully crafted, with unique flavors and their hot sauce on the side is so flavorful. I’ve also been very impressed by their sake collection, every time I go, I find a cool new sake to try. Their mixed drinks are very inventive and yummy. Don’t forget to get some shaved ice after you’re done! The plac is always crowded so don’t expect to walk in and get a spot without a long wait. I recommend making a reservation!

I went here with my boyfriend & his sister. We had a 35 min wait for a table as it was pretty busy (we went on Super Bowl Sunday). We each had their classic tonkotsu ramen which was delicious! One of the best I’ve ever had. The egg was yummy, noddles & meat were easy to chew, & the broth!!! Fantastic. We all finished our bowls completely. I drank their summer orange sake & my boyfriend tried their green yuzu margarita, both were really good & paired well with our ramen 😊 very friendly & attentive staff! We ended it off by having their coffee kaki-gori. Sooo refreshing after a warm meal. Highly recommend this place!
