Update: this place sucks. Bed is super lumpy and you have to open the window so it's not so hot but then you also have to open the window shades to let in the cold and that means a ton of light comes in at night. Internet is slow and no desk in my room. So don't expect to get any work done here. Also the prints on the wall are lame and it seems sort of run down and not aesthetically great. It's fine if you don't mind all that, though, which I don't for this trip.

Place is an actually dump. The owners clearly don’t care to fix anything. The soap dispensers were off the walls sitting on the sink. The towel hangers were broken. The lights don’t work in the bathrooms. The staff was nice. I only stayed here because I couldn’t afford a $300+ room at other places in this neighborhood. This place has some of the laziest owners ever. If on a budget, you can survive here.

The place is worth every penny. The accommodations are well fitted for a family or individuals with a budget in very busy and entertaining district. Many things to do a walk away from the hotel.

The location is convenient but the room needs a new upgrade. The bed is a spring bed. It squeaks every time I move. The shared bathroom is not hygienic. Although there is a towel, there are no shampoo/soaps. There are no elevators so you would need to climb up all the floors to your room.

We would return. A great location for us… walking distance to the Whitney, Little Island, High Line and in the other direction, we walked to Bleecker Street and Comedy Cellar. Plenty of cafes and shops around. A quick taxi ride up to Times Square. The room was clean — except for the small trashcan under the sink that was still full of trash from the previous people — the reason I’m giving it 4 stars. It was an odd arrangement of 2 futons and bed, with a tiny table and tiny bathroom with sink and shower. Our room had a private and clean bathroom. No one tended to the room while we were out and I actually prefer that. We literally only slept and showered there. It felt safe and the staff was friendly. And it was a decent price!

You get what you expect. Cheap with basic amenities and nice 24 hour staff. The finish isn’t completely right and you have soap dispensers breaking but over all if you aren’t in the hotel 24 7 it works out well.

best feature: the security, the hotel runs a tight ship with a locked front door with a buzzer, verifying all information before letting you in. this was my first time in NYC and i have chronic anxiety so this was appreciated. worst feature: the room quality. the walls and floors were super scuffed and i saw 10 bugs over the course of 2 nights. my room had private bath, i can only imagine the state of the shared bath. i bought the reservation last minute and on a budget, so it is what it is, but at $250 per night BEFORE sales tax the experience stings a bit.

Definitely 3 stars or a little less. Upon arrival the first impression isn’t great as it has no signage and it looks like an apartment building. (See picture) My room was clean and all rooms have window A/C units… There was no desk in my room, and only basic liquid soaps provided. Location is central and staff is kind.

This place was absolutely disgusting. It is basically a flophouse. If I could give it negative stars, I would. Cramped, dirty room, torn up blanket on the bed, stained sheets, discolored raw plywood propping up the window on either side of a noisily rattling air conditioner, dents and chips in the wall paint and random pieces of tape stuck to the walls. When I got there I took one look around and immediately went back downstairs to tell the clerk I could not stay. She said she would contact the management to see if I could be refunded. I said I did not mind paying for one night since I was changing my mind at the last minute. But guess what? I have not heard a word from them about a refund. If someone had invested a few thousand dollars in fixing this place up, it might actually be a decent place to stay. But they obviously don’t care and would rather dupe unsuspecting guests with deceptive photos and fake reviews. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT STAYING HERE!

Definitely a 3 star hotel. Has basic amenities like fridge, microwave, AC etc. But don’t expect something pristine for the price you’re paying; there is the occasional bug / cockroach, walls are thin and my freezer stopped working overnight but staff got it working when I asked about it. Staff were very kind to me, provided me towels even at 1 in the morning, helped me carry my luggage down the stairs and also got ice for me when my freezer stopped working. The communal bathroom was decently clean and had shampoo but I would recommend bringing slippers. Overall, the place is liveable and in a great location especially for the price but it is not for someone who is high maintenance. Also the hotel cat is very cute and I was happy to have him sleep in my room my first night :)

It's more a hostel rather than a hotel. My room was quite sloppy, and W 14th street is very noisy. The price is good, though, and the neighborhood has the 1930's Chelsea avenues charme.

A decent hotel. Room was clean, but with weaknesses such as broken shower door handle. Location is great, but the hotel itself isn't beautiful. Go here if you like price and location -- but don't go here for the hotel itself.

Here are the pros and cons of Hotel 309: Pros - very conveniently located in Manhattan, where you can find pretty much anything you need within easy walking distance. The area was safe, and well taken care of for the most part. The cost savings are definitely there, if you're visiting on a tight budget, or looking for a place to stay on short notice - which was definitely the boat I was in when visiting NYC. Lastly, the place was clean. That is where the pros end. The building, though secure, seriously needs some repair. Cracks in the walls have been painted over, areas with electrical conduit running over the walls. Furniture was only so, so, and there was a gigantic crater in the bed I slept in. Floors creak everywhere, and while the place was clean, bugs were running rampant. The door lock was halfway broken, and required some play to get the door unlocked. Overall, not the best experience, but definitely affordable and well located.

Literally bugs in rooms! No bathroom in room, only in shared universal hallway. Filthy conditions. Terrible slow internet. TVs have like 3 channels. No elevator, had to walk 4 flights of stairs. I do not recommend unless on budget an have nowhere else to go

  • 3/5 Rob R. 1 year ago on Google
It is definitely not fancy, it obviously isn’t pretty, and it clearly is not for everyone, but it’s cheap and reasonably clean. The room number’s correlation to the floor they are on are practically unrelated, and make ZERO sense. Someone obviously has an issue with their counting skills. Some rooms don’t have restrooms, but the ones located in the hallways are well maintained and have doors with working locks. The biggest issue with place is that there isn’t an elevator. That said, I suggest that you get something on the lower floors.

There are no words to describe this place! Atrocious comes to mind, but still doesn’t do it justice. Staff personnel are nice, but to be totally honest, it’s a dump. Mold in the bathroom, tv has 3 channels and all are snowy, loud, no elevator, some rooms share a bathroom in the hallway, and roaches. If you’re thinking of booking to save a few dollars, don’t! Run, run very far away from this place.
