The vibe is great, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff is friendly and the service is good. There was a massive line to get in, this place is incredibly popular and rated as one of the best pizza places in NYC. The food was good, the sausage dish we had was full of flavor. The pizza on the other hand was slightly below expectations. The crust is good and the ingredients are good. So it should be a good pizza, but we had a lot of toppings with the specialty pizza we ordered and as a result it was soggy in the middle. I noticed that several tables that ordered pizza heavy on toppings also took to scraping it off to eat pizza. I would recommend sticking with a single topping if any. Had we done that this would have likely been a 5 star establishment. I still liked it, and would come back to try a simpler pie.

Some say this is the best pizza in NYC, it's certainly one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. Super thin crust, delicious oozy cheese, rich toppings that absolutely melt in your mouth. Yes, the line outside is long, but it moves fast as possible. Yes it's crowded inside, but how else you gonna fit everybody? This place is iconic for a reason. It tastes, smells and feels like New York City, so stick it in your pie hole and have a good time damn it... Lol

Pizza was great. Staff made a recommendation after my initial order and I really enjoyed it. I appreciated that availability of salads and the red peppers on my mixed greens salad were the sweetest I’ve ever had, in a good way. However it was difficult to eat since the container was stuffed so full. I’d come back and recommend to others.

So the hype for this place is real, I was thoroughly impressed with the entire experience. We came for lunch and staff was quick to tend to us. We had our pepperoni pie within 20 minutes of sitting down. The pizza itself was amazing, perfect blend of fresh tomatoes sauce, a crispy and buttery crust topped with a cheese that didn’t make you feel like you were eating a stick of butter. Would definitely come back.

After eating at over 250 pizzerias, a new King is crowned. Could not get seating the day before due to over a 100 people waiting in line, literally down the block. The Pizza Gods were good to us today. They do not take reservations so be prepared to wait. By the way, it is well worth it.

This is a special place. Best pizza in Lower Manhattan for me. John’s of Bleecker St. is amazing because of its consistency. I’ve come here no less then 50 times, and I’ve NEVER had a bad pie from them. Do yourself a favor, and just get the cheese and basil. It’s simple, and this pizza does not need a million toppings to be good. Just let the amazing sauce, cheese, and crispy crust do the talking. Usually a bit of a wait, but everything that’s the best in NYC has a wait. And this is no exception. Great food and service is always timely.

Excellent Pizza, first one for me in NYC. I’ll let you know how the rest of my ventures go here but this one will certainly be hard to beat. I prefer NY style pizza and this was one of the best I’ve ever had. Watch out for the toppings price. Definitely more bang for your buck buying a large. I recommend adding garlic to whatever other toppings you like. Enjoy!

It’s definitely a solid option, but just short of being worth waiting in an extended line for. The service was great throughout, as everyone that we interacted with was very friendly and we didn’t wait too long for the actual food to come out (though we did wait 20+ minutes to actually enter). The Meatball Dish and Mozzarella Sticks were both hot/tasty and a perfect intro for the meal. The pie itself was solid, but just not the best I’ve had in town. The Cherry Peppers (Hot) topping were good, but definitely lacked any sort of heat. Having only the crushed red peppers to add spice was a little disappointing. Besides that though, the flavors were on point.

I've been to quite a few pizza joints (see some of my Google reviews), and John's of Bleecker St is undoubtedly within the top five of my favorite places! The pizza is thin and crisp all the way through! The sauce is very bold, boasting a strong tomato taste which compliments the correct amount of cheese on each slice! Literally the perfect pizza!! I only wish I had ordered more than one pie!

Pretty good pizza. The best in New York? I don't think so. I got the "John's original", great taste but it could have been crispier. I don't like that you have to get a full pizza especially because I was by myself. The garlic bread was amazing. The service was great and the food came very quickly. Awesome atmosphere. There was outdoor and indoor seating available but you may have to wait in line for a empty spot when it's busy.

I thought the pizza was delicious. Ordered the house Salad (it's huge, servings for at least 6 people) and Margherita with half pepperoni. Pepperoni had a very nice flavor, and the sauce was incredible. Personally would have like some more crunch to the slice. Crust was great. Lines form very quickly so be willing to wait. Moves quick.

I mean…y’all already know why your going here lol. My god…pizza tastes perfect! And it looks beautiful! We got lucky and got to sit outside in our own little tent and got to people watch while we waited. Server was friendly and surprisingly we hit this spot around 1:30pm and didn’t have to wait in a line or anything. Famous spot for a reason, just go and get a pizza, you won’t regret it! ❤️🍕

Definitely the best pizza I’ve had in new york. It comes the closest to New Haven style that I’ve been able to find in the city. Its worth waiting in line 30-45 minutes for this pizza. We waited 45 minutes today… normally would never wait on line for food but we heard so many good things so we finally went for it. We were not disappointed. The caesar salad appetizer came out very quickly and it was fresh and delicious. The pizza itself came out pretty fast too within like 15 minutes of ordering. The plain cheese slice was amazing and so was the sausage half of the pizza. I didn’t love the “golden ale” that they had on offer as it was kind of flat almost like an English cask ale. Other than that we really enjoyed everything. They take credit cards which is great. Sit inside if you can because the inside is very historic-feeling with the oldschool wooden booths…

We were really looking forward to trying this place. Johns was the second stop on a dozen pizzeria pizza tour for us. I don’t fundamentally believe in perfect scores but man - I can’t imagine pizza being better than this. It was insanely good. I’ll be dreaming of this pie for years to come. Bathroom was clean . Prices were very reasonable, staff was insanely friendly for New Yorkers. Must stop.

Visiting from out of town so take the review with a grain of salt. First I have to say the restaurant is a cool atmosphere, love the seating, coziness, and older feel. Service was really good and despite having no tables ready we were not rushed in any of the ordering, eating, or leaving process. We ordered the original pie and tried to order the meatball sandwich but they were our of bread so we settled for the meatball dish. Meatballs were pretty good. They were dense in a red sauce with melted mozzarella. They were good but wouldn’t necessarily tell another visitor they HAD to get the meatballs. I’d say the pizza was def better than the meatballs. The crust was thin and crisp on the bottom. Lots of cheese but the integrity of the crust allows the pizza not to flop over. The sauce was on the acidic side for me but I think that’s telling of the freshness. It was very cool to watch them making pizzas right in front of you. Overall good experience; I’d say if you’re in the area great choice but I’ll explore others on the future. Thank you!

Loved this establishment. Having had Detroit style, Chicago style and pizza from Italy. Really loved John's Pizzeria. While there was a line up, they were quick and nothing says a good piece of pie more than when their original is delicious. From the sauce to all the ingredients, you can taste the difference in the use of fresh ingredients and herbs. The service was fast and the pizza was served right out of the oven, crispy all over, crunchy and just delicious sauce and cheese over a thin crust. Would definitely come back. Such a gem.

I ordered takeout and my order was ready within 30 minutes on a busy Sunday...the line was out the door. When I got home/ I warmed up the pizza in my oven.. The slice is just perfect- not too heavy- not too light with a perfect amount of cheese and sauce- and the crust was crispy... I'm def ordering 3-4 pies during the Super Bowl from here.. highly recommend this place- lives up to expectations

Legendary pizzeria still dishing it out! Probably the best crust of any pizza in the world — certainty so in Manhattan. Sauce is neither sweet nor creamy, rather full of natural flavors that capture the timeless rustic flavor. The Cheese tastes likes comes from happy cows. Be forewarned, toppings are not as broad as at Domino’s, you are getting an authentically old school experience at John’s. And it’s also totally worth it. It’s no reservations, but even the scary looking lines move quickly and I was seated after ~5 minutes when expecting to wait 20.

The pizza was pretty good, nice crispy crust and well baked. It lacked a bit of flavour and seasoning though, but you can add your own pepper or chili flakes. Spaghetti Marinara was quite tasty, though honestly quite pricy. Given the high ratings this restaurant receives, expect queues and some waiting time if you are not there early. However, you could tell that the servers wanted to chase us away quickly for the next table, and true enough they made us leave as soon as possible. Not the best experience but understandable.

John’s of Bleecker Street was the worth the visit. My wife was very impressed and understood why John’s is on of the best pizza shops in the world. The pizza and zucchini sticks were both excellent. The pizza is perfect in every way from the dough to the sauce and cheese. We will definitely comeback on our next trip to NYC from Seoul.

Oh. My. God. If I could rate this 10/10 stars I would. First off, my dad is obsessed with One Bite Pizza reviews, so when we decided to take a trip to NYC, we decided to hit up the top pizza places. And wow, did Johns on Bleeker street ever blow my mind. The atmosphere was completely authentic and amazing. The staff were phenomenal (and cute :) ) and the pizza was to die for. If you have to go anywhere in NYC, it’s here. I will try to come back JUST for the pizza

Had to see what all the hype was about. Portnoy was spot on! Very popular place, so had a small wait for table. Worth the wait! I wanted to do a 1 bite cheese slice review, but they don’t do slices here. But my sausage and mushroom was absolutely delicious. Perfectly charcoal kissed on the crust and undercarriage. Even with a generous amount of toppings, had great crisp to it. Definitely 9+ on Dave’s scale. If you’ve never been, what are you waiting for? Forget chains, come out and support your local businesses! Highly recommended.

John's on Bleecker Street Pizzeria in NYC is an absolute hit for pizza lovers! While there might be a bit of a wait to get in, the anticipation only adds to the experience. Their reputation as one of the best pizza places in the city is well-deserved. The moment you sink your teeth into their delicious, thin-crust pies, you'll understand why people flock here. The ingredients are top-notch, the flavors are authentic, and the atmosphere is classic New York. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this is a must-visit spot for an authentic NYC pizza experience. 🍕

John's of Bleeker Street is a pizzeria temple serving "American-Neapolitan pizza." It is one of Manhattan's first (and potentially last) coal-fired pizzerias. With its nearly 100-year-old coal-burning oven built right into the tile wall, this is a must-visit to experience the atmosphere and flavor that can only be found here. John's pizza is perfectly crisped across with flecks of coal-fired char that dot the bottom like a fine piece of artwork and give an incredible depth of flavor. The crust remains chewy and sturdy enough to pick up and eat the entire slice by hand (zero flop). This is some of the finest pizza you can get anywhere in New York. They do not serve slices- only pies. The restaurant is a bit cramped, and there is almost always a line, often very long, and out the door, though it moves well — trust me, it is well worth the wait. The staff is incredibly efficient, and with pizzas taking less than a minute to cook, you'll be eating your legendary pie in mere minutes! I will certainly be back!

The wait is nice and smooth, you go in once your party is there and the size is open. The pizza is fantastic from middle to crust, some of the best pizza I've had in NY and I've lived here my whole life. They medium pies aren't the big so you'll probably have to order a few to get full, that and there is an up charge of 3% when you use card so be aware of that. So that's why I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5.

One bite everybody knows the rules! After one bite, I could not stop! Definitely the best pizza I personally have ever had. With so many fantastic pizza places in the city, this is definitely one I can see myself coming back to every time I visit. Fresh ingredients, the sauce was so freakin good, perfectly cooked crust. Good undercarriage! we also had the meatball appetizer, which is absolutely out of this world. We had great service as well. 10 out of 10 highly recommend!

This pizza was great, pretty much lived up to the hype. Crisp was excellent and the pizza was cooked perfectly. My only slight criticism was the sauce was a little too plain for my liking. The tomato tasted like it was put straight on pizza with very little other flavourings. You could taste the acidic tomatoes. Nonetheless, only a tiny flaw for me. This was top quality pizza, one of the best. Staff were great and I loved the inside of the restaurant. Highly recommended!

It’s a complete hole in the wall… a dive… people initials etched in almost every inch of wood throughout the place…. Prices are typical for NYC, so no surprise there.. The pizza, most importantly, was very very good. Crispy, the sauce was extremely flavorful, and the cheese was great quality. A must try if you’re in NYC!

Is it good? Yes. Is it Dave Portnoy rubbing his junk all over a slice good? No. Not even close. That's personal opinion though. It is definitely a top tier pizza place so maybe it was just so hyped up as the most famous pizza place in NYC that it was a bit of a let down. It's worth going to if you're in the city. Is it worth traveling for? I guess that's your decision to make because there definitely ARE some places in NYC worth traveling just to get. Traveling AND waiting in their absurdly long line. :D Regardless, it was good pizza.

This is the one. I don't think I've had a better classic NY Italian-American pizza than this. It's pricey unlike Joe's, but far more premium for an actual sitdown joint. Get the original with pepperoni added and you won't regret it. The full pie has thin crust (as it should) and so will feed two hungry people or three not-so-hungry people. The wait is long but it's worth getting into this Bleecker street legend.

We got here around 5:00pm on a Tuesday and beat the rush! The place still has its old authentic history with photos of celebrities who have visited over the years. Our pie came out within 5 minutes of ordering it. It came out piping hot. It had a crispy crust, no flop and incredible flavors. The sauce and cheese both weren’t greasy, so the ingredients were quality. There were tons of meatballs on the pie and we left full and satisfied. Definitely looking forward to going again in the future!

Not sure what Dave Portnoy was up to the day he rated this so high. Don't get me wrong the pizza is good and you should try it but there is a lot better in NYC. We had a sausage and pepperoni pizza and the calamari. Calamari was solid. Pizza is good but I likely won't be back as there are better spots in NYC.

One of the best pizza in town. A must try. Good customer service includes providing courteous and quick service to meet customers' needs during their dining experience. It was well worth the wait

There are plenty of pizza places in NYC, but there are only a few that stand out and John's is one of them. It's completely understandable why this is one of Dave Portnoy's favorite places. The place opens up at 11:30am and there's already a line on a Tuesday am. We were seated immediately and the pepperoni pizza I ordered came out pretty quickly. Loved the crisp in every bite. If you're in NYC, John's definitely a must visit on your list!

As a native New Yorker who grew up in neighborhoods with every fourth storefront being a Pizzeria, it's exciting to go back for one of those all too rare visits. John's of Bleecker was on our list for our previous 2 visits, but we just couldn't get there. This trip we did and it was wonderful. We went for a late lunch, so only had a 15 or so minute wait on an outdoor line. The staff kept us regularly informed of our place in line. Once seated service was friendly and quick. The Fried Zucchini appetizer was excellent and is always one of my favorites. It was crispy on the outside and hot and tender on the inside and was accompanied with a good marinara sauce. I thought the undipped Zucchini needed some salt, but the dipped was perfect. The pizza was a welcome respite from what we've reluctantly become used to after 26 years away from NYC. The crust was thin and perfectly prepared. The cheese and sauce transported me back a generation or two. We didn't do dessert, opting for a local Greenwich Village dessert place instead. We would definitely return, probably opting for a slower time of the day again.

Some colleagues of mine recommend this place as the authentic ‘New York style’ pizzeria. I don’t know if pizza here actually is New York style, but I can say it was veeery good. All ingredients were fresh and tasty. Way better than other so-called ‘Italian’ places in Little Italy, for instance. Staff were quick and super nice. Totally recommend.

#1 place we wanted to visit while in the city and it certainly did not disappoint. Experience starts at the door where the host was a true professional and managed everyone with ease and a smile. Top 3 pizza pies of my life. Welcome the open atmosphere and share food with your table neighbors, like we did, and enjoy!!

We were introduced to this little gem during our pizza tour (Scott’s Pizza Tour) and it did not disappoint. It has been around since 1915 using a coal fired oven to make their pizza. They opt to place the cheese first, then pour a bit of sauce on top versus the traditional sauce then cheese. You cannot buy just a slice, rather you have to buy the full pie. Honestly, you will probably house that whole pizza anyway so no fret. We fell in love with that initial slice that we tasted on the tour that we decided to go back the next day to try more. It was delicious! We got there around 3 pm and it was packed, but there was just enough room for us. The service is excellent and fast. I highly recommend trying this place because it is deeeeelish!

Pizza was awesome, is it worth coming to the city just for pizza? That's the real question. Most towns in the NY metro area have pizza that gets real close to this. I had to see what the hype was about.

  • 5/5 Jennifer L. 1 year ago on Google
Great pizza and very helpful and friendly staff. You can’t go wrong with ordering sausage and pepperoni as your toppings! The queue gets pretty long after 6, but it’s worth the wait. We had outdoor seating, which was really nice on a warm day.

We came here in search of NYCs best pizza. I found this place at the suggestion of barstool sports with a 9.3 rating. We were so impressed. The crust was so delicious and the sauce was authentic. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and the service was fast. Highly recommend. This place was worthy of its 9.3 rating

  • 4/5 Eric F. 2 years ago on Google
They don't sell by the slice, so I had a medium pizza: half plain, half Bianca (mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, basil, no tomato sauce). Since I went on a weekday afternoon, I didn't have to wait. Good pizza, but I don't see how it justifies the price, or in busier conditions, the wait. In fairness I'm not particular about pizza, so I'm open to the possibility there's greatness I'm not noticing.
