High class exclusive club where you need at least 12 members to recommend you to be eligible for membership candidacy aside from many other requirements. Having a lunch at this historical environment is a privilege. The food is good. The service is good. The ambiance is beautiful. The acoustics is great. The atmosphere is cukture with books, magazines and mementos of writers, actors and New York glitterati. Reading, writing and having private time for yourselves at the library is another special occasion. What a joy to be part of this ambiance. Lucky for those who have friends to be invited there.

    Fantastic, but a private club!

Well, it's got some nice small exhibits, like this one of Chinese calligraphy - but you can't go beyond that without being sponsored and elected by the elite members of the Association.

Classic 18th century New York mansion with beautiful marble work and interior decor. Supported by members in the Arts and Letters. Small art gallery inside the first floor foyer is open to the public. Otherwise, to access the library bar, nice rooftop restaurant and terrace bar you have to be a member. Certainly worth a peak inside to reimagine Times Square more than a century ago.

It’s just a hyped up place. Stop the arrogance. Many other buildings are historical in Manhattan. I don’t care if you’re a secret society or think you’re within the elite. Rude manager. I remember his comment when I said, “I didn’t even know this was here”. And he said, “And we want to stay that way”. Not in a polite or humble way, but in a condescending tone.

Wonderful, old-world club. My grandfather was a member a hundred years ago.

Iconic very private and exclusive Club whose members are vetted further than CIA operatives and whose members are accomplished and extremely talented writers, artists, creative media persons. I was a guest of a member and was astounded at the level of talent found in the 1,500 or so members of this Club, whose roster is cast over the whole planet.

I was there working a gig. . .not sure if it's open to the public or if you can rent the space out. It's a beautiful venue. . .felling love the first time I walked in. It reminded me of Faculty House at Columbia University; both in architecture and the interior.

Quintessential Old New York establishment, where intelligent, scintillating, sparkling conversation is the standard to which all ascribe.
