Courts in medium condition. Some cracks but hoops are nice and playable. Good crew for casual pick up basketball. Not too crowded on a Saturday so you shouldn't have to wait too long to get into a game. Additional half court on the side good for shooting around but pickle ball players are constantly trying to take the side court.

This park is decided into several different space for the community to enjoy. The largest space is an open field which is used for kids soccer, baseball, field sports and other activities. Your not supposed to bring your dog on this Astro turf lawn…so please don’t. There is also a small child’s playground which is wonderful and popular. On the west end of the park on the other side of the tunnel entrance there is a series of handball and (now) pickle ball courts. There is also a basketball court. The secret park which has limited hours is all the way to the east on first Avenue. This grass lawn and flowerbeds is an oasis.

Awesome park for kids: plenty of space and good climbing frames, swing sets, and slides. There are also plenty of benches for parents, a large open area for ball games or scooting. Not to mention the impressive view of the Empire State Building.

Good BUT, too much cannabis smokers are smoking on the bench around the park. The smoke pass through and the kids breath the cannabis while they are playing! The city doesn't care. They prefer allow the junkies smoking everywhere even in a kids area!!!

I am really nitpicking by not giving this park five stars. I go here often. I throw a football or a frisbee with a friend or one of my parents here every now and then. The turf is not really grass and used to be cement. I have mixed feelings about this, as I grew up with it being cement and I would scooter on it. I know people who miss it because they cannot really rollerblade and/or rollerskate there anymore on the open field. The turf is still really nice though! The playground is nice and has a rather large jungle-gym, which I can attest to from previous experiences when I played on it when I was younger. There are also sprinklers that turn on in the summer and can cool you off. There are also swings, tire swings and this other contraption that you sit and spin around in. The basketball courts are pretty good, but get crowded often. Also, the floor on the court is the slightest uneven, but no biggie. You can also practice your tennis skills on the adjacent court area where there are walls to hit the tennis ball at. The bathrooms are not ideal, but they get the job done. They usually get locked around sundown. This park is not perfect or essentially perfect, but I love it a lot and I think 4/5 is a good representation of this park. Get out and enjoy! P.S: They have a composting station by the playground area that is open on Saturdays.

Very nice and clean park. It is perfect for kids to play and adults to just sit and relax. Some eev order to be delivered there. Overall it’s a fun place for the whole family.

Great place, but the city needs to repaint the Pickleball lines. Also, the city should post rules about how to manage play time when a lot of people show up. This aside, St Vartans Park is a tremendous community resource offering opportunities to play Pickleball, basketball, handball, practice your tennis against the handball wall, and a big playground for the kids. And a clean bathroom!!

Cool park. Was visiting family and took the kids out for a break on a nice afternoon. No bathroom but the equipment was in good shape, nice families, felt safe.

big green place for kids on the east half and playground for baseball etc on west half. It covers a whole block between First and Second Av and east 35th and 36th street. The water fountain in the middle is the favorite cooling station of little kids. It has all kinds of swings. The big red tyre swings are rarely seen in the city. It has great view of the Empire State Building and surrounding condo buildings. It is also very close to ferry port, and the East River sidewalk.

A great place for kids, synthetic grass, but pretty neat, with trees all around, and a fence that is always closed to protect the little ones.

One of the reasons why New York City is just terrific . Why with little parks like St Vartan we have an opportunity to step out and enjoy the sounds and thrills of children playing on the " great lawn " ( newly installed ) while the adults play Pickle Ball ( groan's aplenty ) or basketball played with great intent by very talented young men . I of course am sunbathing ....ok , that's during summer months ...standby for FALL and Winter ... David

This is actually a pretty good park the only thing is that it's more targeted for toddlers instead of kids of all ages

Surprising that in the busy city it has a wonderful park for people living around it to get relaxed from day to day work

A fairly unremarkable park but with a great view of the Empire State Building.

Big park! I have been visiting and hanging out at this park for a couple of summer weeks in 2022, and I have to say that the environment has been interesting. However, my only two flaws are the water fountain and restrooms. Why or why not have two water fountains on the entire park instead of just one? Second, I thought the restroom could be in serious and necessary reconstruction. When I wanted to go use the men's restroom, I would not feel comfortable of going in there due the beastly condition.

Great park with swings for babies and older children, a tire swing, multiple climbing structures for older and younger children, and a sprinkler. Four stars because it’s not completely fenced in and there are a lot of concrete steps that can be a bit of a hazard with young children.

Nice park by the highway, good for locals, bit hard to get to by subways.

The wall is for playing handball I've heard but it's great for tennis practice as well and the full court (basketball) right next to it has two hoops and there's even a third smaller court and hoop on the side. Directly across the street there is another park with a big grassy area as well although I've never been there myself. It's a great place! 👍

The park is conveniently located near 1st Avenue. Has clean bathrooms that close at dusk but unfortunately had a person urinating on tree next to our picnic table and rat running around...

Pleasant and clean patch of green in midtown East with old style benches, playgrounds, and handball court.

A lovely playground and park in a neighborhood that doesn't boast extensive green space.

Nice open space and very family friendly. Moreover, it's a great space for exercising with basketball and tennis courts, plus great open turf space.

NYC Parks Dept. workers ALL deserve lunch and a break, after seeing almost 4 yrs. of visiting; and in those yrs., from pruning, planting, bench seat changing with 5/8 " thicker boards, as well, as lawn moving and routine cleaning and maintenance...on and on...even, turf laying....thanks...ms. marion.🙂🙃

The only missing thing is a sand box, otherwise it's has a nice playground in a nice neighborhood.
