The steak is very good, but the service is bad. The substandard quality of the service prevents me from recommending this restaurant. When our party of 5 entered on a very calm Tuesday evening, the hostess and staff did not offer to check in our coats. After we were led to our tables and uncomfortably sat down with large winter coats on our seats, we had to ask if there was a coat check, and only then did the wait staff offer to take our jackets. We asked for a bottle of sparkling water, and tap water in one glass, and a cup of hot water. The tap water never arrived. Later in the service, after the main courses arrived, one person asked for a few paper napkins. They did not arrive for 10 minutes until we asked again. The restaurant was not even half full, so being busy could not be blamed for these gaps in service. Another person burned his fingers on a hot plate because they were not adequately warned that all plates were hot, not just the plates with food on them. One person asked about nonalcoholic mocktails (they had none), and whether the bar could make a virgin mohito. They were given Sprite with a mint leaf. The table was not wiped down after the appetizers and entrees were taken away. The creme brulee with a birthday candle was served on the table before dirty dishes from the main course were fully cleared. The staff was impatient as we asked questions about post dinner refreshments. We ordered three coffees, but only two arrived and we had to remind the staff about the third. When the check came, I tipped 10% (lowest I've ever given) to send a message that I was not happy with the service. When the waiter inquired about the tip (with audacity to insist for more), I changed it to 25% because I do not want multiple people's livelihoods, especially the kitchen staff which did an excellent job with the meal, to be hurt by the poor service of one waiter. I hope the restaurant staff understands that bad service puts them at risk of bad tips. We spent near 1000 dollars in 2 hours at this restaurant and only the food portion of the cost was worth it. I will not give additional business to this restaurant and I will discourage everyone I know from visiting. Hopefully this post discourages strangers from visiting as well.

Beautiful place ❤️.Comfortable atmosphere, and beautiful setting with two floors. Experienced staff, our waiter was very nice and catered to our every need.Came here during restaurant week, so we eat from that specific menu, but let me tell you how I thought the food was gonna be a small portion, boy was I fooled they gave us a decent amount of food. I preferred the grilled calamari with the New York sirloin and mashed potatoes. The food was amazing. For desert I ordered the carrot cake and it was very good aswell. Over all this was a nice experience, looking forward to coming again ☺️.

Better than Peter Lugers Benjamin Steakhouse Prime; delicious time-tested steaks in a modern setting. I'll be real here, I came here cause I know there is a branch in Japan and I want to compare the two when I visit Japan next year. Now, to my dining experience at this one. Don't confuse Benamin Steakhouse Prime with just Benjamin Steakhouse; they are 2 separate restaurants operated by the same company basically separated by a wall (the non Prime one is located on 42st street). I don't know the differences between the two are, I haven't been to the non Prime one. Let's start with drinks, I have one called the Midtown Mule; basically a Moscow mule, but I think with more vodka. It was fine. I didn't get much ginger beer flavor in mine, I probably won't order this again. Appetizers: I had lobster bisque and stuffed clams. The bisque was delightful, creamy, full of lobster flavor, and chucks of lobster meat. The clans weren't bad, though a lot smaller than I expected. Now the entrees; we had the porterhouse for two, the rack of lamb and the Chilean seabass. The porterhouse was stupendous: so unbelievably tender, the server literally cut it with a spoon in front of me. It was cooked in the famous Peter Luger style of being basted with a ton of butter and charred in a salamander. The rack of lamb while delicious was served to me in more of a lambchop style. My mom never seeing mint jelly for lamb thought it was a dessert and just straight up ate the jelly. Her seabass was also flavorful and juicy. Sides were creamed corn with pancetta. My brother thought it was overly salty due to the pancetta. My mom loved it. I also enjoy the dish but agreed with my brother that there was too much pancetta. And mash potatoes, which was also enjoyable, very creamy, and loads of butter. Overall, I think this was a wonderful steakhouse experience in a city full of steakhouse. And if you were considering splurging on a steakhouse in NYC, skip Luger's and come here instead.

The best steak I've ever eaten, outstanding service. Special occasion only prices, but well worth it.

Came here on Valentines day and of course it was so hectic. Got 2 of the Valentines specials, which was $99 for each, and the amount of food was abundant. Nice atmosphere even though tables were set very close to one another, which made the customers a little uncomfortable moving around. Staffs were super nice yet the service was a little off. I saw some waiters got lost didn’t know what they were doing. But they really tried their best to accommodate us. Love the decorating rose on the table. Juicy steaks, very fresh oysters and tasty cheesecake. Plenty of great options for wine. I love the experience!

I came here with my partner and his mom for dinner during restaurant week and it was ok. The place is clean and very much has a steakhouse vibe. We were seated by the windows and the curtains kept drifting over and brushing the back of my head. When we asked if there's something we can do about keeping the curtain away, our waiter said "no" and walked away. The service was a bit cold. The food came quickly but we had to keep actively seeking out the staff for questions about the food and to get drinks. And each time our waiter would come, he would look like we were the biggest nuisance. I started with the grilled calamari (too salty but otherwise good). The sirloin was perfectly cooked to a medium rare but was lacking in flavor. The ribeye that my partner got was delicious! The chocolate cake at the end was rich and creamy.

I came with some co-workers for restaurant week last night. We all ordered the New York Sirloin and I had the calamari for appetizer. For beverage I ordered an Old Fashion and I'd rate it a 7.8/10. The appetizer was okay. I'd give it the same rating. If you don't like your calamari crunchy or with texture then you'd like this. The Sirloin was so delicious. I was full from 2 bites. I got the side of Mashed Potatoes and my coworkers gave me their Creamless Cream Spinach which is very delicious and the mashed Potatoes are fluffy and creamy, which is my fave. I would visit for the regular menu.

Outdoor seating available and it’s warm with enough heating. Lunch special is with good portion and reasonable price. Friendly service. Food is delicious too!

Delicious 🤤!!! Went out for Resturant week and it was really nice , the server made sure me and my friends were good & enjoying ourselves . We did get there around 9:20 and got seated even though our reservations were for 9:45 it wasn’t packed or busy on a Tuesday. Thank you for such a wonderful experience !

I attended a group dinner at Benjamin’s and they did not disappoint. The service was good and the food was excellent. The ribeye is huge and was cooked perfectly. The restaurant was very busy which is a testament to the food. I would definitely recommend coming here for dinner or just stopping by for a cocktail. ________________ 🌏Weight Loss Motivation Blogger. 🔥Impressive Weight Loss. This was my first time going there, went for the restaurant week menu. We had a reservation and were seated just a few minutes later. The service was good, very helpful. My favorites were the steak fries and mashed potatoes. I will go back to try other things on the main menu.

This was such a disappointing experience. Every December, my family comes together for a steakhouse dinner. We were originally booked for reservation at 212 but due to stop and go traffic coming in from NJ we missed it and had to pivot. We were pleasantly surprised to find a later reservation at Benjamin’s. From the start of this dinner, we knew it was going to be bad. We were sat and our waiter quickly took our entire order mentioning that it was busy tonight. He said nothing about the menu. I’m not even sure what his name was. He then continued to forget about things. We asked for a coke twice. He completely forgot about a cocktail until I pointed it out at the end of the dinner. He told us he was bringing bread and that never came. He was also MIA for most of the dinner - never addressing what was going on . It also took an hour and half for appetizers to finally come out. Dinner didn’t come out until 2 hours after the start of dinner. We had a wrong side dish delivered. The wait staff tried to put new plates down on the table without clearing the finished appetizer plates. Drinks took a half hour+ to come out. We were hoping the food would soften the terrible service. It was so average, very bland. We were so upset that we didn’t even order dessert and quickly asked for the check which in the same fashion as everything else took forever to come. Finally, what appeared to be a manager, came out to apologize and gave us 25% off the meal. However, the check was still upwards of $700. We only do this once a year as a family so it was incredibly sad to have to spend this kind of money on such a poor experience.

If you like an amazing steak, this is the place to go! The restaurant was lively and had a great vibe. The only downside and probably the only reason I knocked it down to 3 stars is because the service wasn't great. It wasn't particularly super busy but our server was basically only there to take our order and hand us the check after 10 minutes of trying to find him. For such a nice restaurant that seems to pride themselves in hospitality, our server most definitely didn't make the cut as he wasn't at all attentive. Putting our server aside, the food runner/busser was awesome, and the manager was nice too!

Came here on Sunday dinner during restaurant week fixed $60 for a four course meal. We were seated on the second floor, dim lights perfect for a date night. Pretty empty while it was 6:30. More people started showing up after 7:30pm. I’m glad that they seated us on the second floor as the first floor is more casual and more people talking with seats closer to each other. The burrata and thick bacon as appetizers with some complimentary bread was a great start. we both ordered sirloin, one as medium and the other as medium rare. Even the medium was very soft and juicy, apparently the steaks are aged between 27-31 days. The side of steak fries were bomb! Dessert was the cherry on top, I recommend the cheese cake. Chocolate mousse cake was good but had the Hershey’s flavor instead of rich chocolate. Malbec was very smooth and fruity too.

I used to come to this restaurant quite often prior to the pandemic and now the quality of the food isn't good at all! I don't know if it's because they have a new chef or what but not good anymore at all. The restaurant felt unclean and the food I ordered wasn't tasty at all. They brought out bread that was hard as a rock. My steak wasn't juicy or cooked the way I had asked. I will not be returning. NOT worth the price. Gallagher's is a better steakhouse.

Incredible food. Drinks were served proper and quickly. Porterhouse steak was definitely prime with outstanding marbling and cooked to perfection. Seafood platter was fresh and plentiful. Sides were all delicious and big enough to share. Top notch steakhouse in Manhatten that we would definitely return too and recommend. Menu is extensive and detailed.

Amazing! Went for my birthday in October. The food and service was amazing. The thick cut bacon was everything I wanted. When our entrees were brought out I was surprised. They presented our food first then they served the food on to our plates. It was awesome. Just sat back and watched it all happen. Will definitely go back. Forgot the servers name, Thank you.

Amazing food and ambience, with generous servings, with prices that match their quality. Service could have been a bit better. I had a filet mignon (medium rare) which despite being called a lady's meat was something I really enjoyed. The start for me however was the lobster bisque which had a nice smooth richness with great flavor. The carrot cake at end was okay and I would recommend the chocolate mousse cake or cheesecake over it. Their Malbec was also quite nice as well as the decaf cappuccino I had to finish the day. I personally liked the Benjamin steakhouse (1 block in front) over the steakhouse prime.

Incredible dining experience! Met up here with my friends who I haven’t seen in two years. We were seated on the balcony, which was intimate and quiet enough for us to converse. I ordered a medium Petit Filet Mignon and it was sublime! The steak was perfectly cooked, not overly seasoned, and generously portioned. However, one of my friend’s medium rare New York Sirloin arrived “charred” beyond consumption, but our server graciously offered to to replace it. Excellent service, ambiance, and steak. My only complaint is the chef’s selection of veggies and potatoes. The cauliflower, bell peppers, and carrots were not the best medley and the creamy mashed potato would be better off as sautéed mini potatoes. Would highly recommend checking out this place if you are in the New York City area and I will definitely be back if I find myself in New York!

Didn't get alot of pictures of the food but the steak was on point. Loved all the cuts of meat. The bacon was amazing I think we order like 5 lol.....4 stars because the Mac and cheese didn't taste good, needs to be more cheesy for me. The staff was pleasant and helpful and the manager even came to the table twice to check on how we were enjoying ourselves. Definitely will be back.

The food and drinks were very good. I was lucky to sit upstairs since the downstairs dining was incredibly loud. The Sea Bass was simply prepared and very fresh. The lighting and ambience was relaxing. Even the coffee and desert was great.

To start, the service is fantastic. We accidentally came to this location instead of where my reservation originally was, and they switched it over and reassured us that it wasn’t a problem. We had the fixed price lunch menu, and I found the portions to be very filling. My salmon was a bit undercooked, and the staff had no issue cooking it a little longer, even going so far as to replace the whole salmon filet. The salmon was really flaky, and cooked and seasoned very well. The sirloin was good, as well. The lobster bisque was creamy and rich, I just wish there were a few more oyster crackers. The chocolate mousse was creamy, salty, and sweet, and for me, the highlight of the dessert was the whipped cream!

Absolutely one of the best steakhouse in NYC! The steak was cooked perfectly and the ambiance is stellar. We came here for a celebration and they treated us like we were celebrities. I’ve been to here and their location in White Plains. They are both astounding and I will definitely come back.

Went for our anniversary and sat in the outdoor dining. It was soo lovely, romantic, and exquisite experience. We had the Porterhouse steak, oysters, scallops, Italian wine. Our servers and sommelier were amazing!! Steak was cooked to perfection, best oysters I have ever tasted. Beautiful experience for our special celebration!

I rarely ever post or review. However, if in New York you must try Benjamin Steakhouse. I promise you will not be disappointed. The service is phenomenal and the food is excellent. I do recommend bring your appetite as the portions are beyond generous.

We had a disappointing Christmas dinner here. Maybe it is better on other days, I don't know. But on Christmas it felt impersonal and disorganized. The two hostesses that greeted us could not have been more lovely and warm. It was a great start! But our waiter was so busy that we rarely saw him and eventually he disappeared. He was no longer our waiter and was working upstairs and we had no new waiter. We had to ask many people several times for things like butter and water. The food was okay. My son's steak was a big disappointment and the rest of the food was just mediocre. They had Christmas music playing which was nice and decorations. But otherwise it felt like a cattle call and I would not recommend this restaurant for a holiday dinner.

The best steakhouse in New York! Food, service, atmosphere. I recommend! Waiter Cris is competency!

  • 3/5 Simone Z. 2 years ago on Google
Good environment, bad steak, bad music The restaurant week menu is definitely a disaster. I ordered a medium junior New York sirloin and it was the worst steak I have ever had in my life. Exceptionally BURNT and very very dry and cold to cut. Good that they change it up right away but even with the new steak it was just mediocre. I guess it’s because it’s the restaurant week menus but come on if lowering your quality means cheaper price then who would come here after the tasting menu? Bad music as well. But very nice environment so I will give it credit for that
