Hartshorne Woods Park is a beautiful hilly wooded 794 acre site overlooking the Navesink River. This park is one of the highest elevations along the Atlantic Coast and was a coastal defense site for the NY harbor because of this. I was able to climb to the top of the Lewis Overlook and enjoy the scenic views. It’s a great place to run, ride your bike and walk your dog. The trees provide a lot of shade. You can stay on the wide paved paths or venture in the woods. Fun Fact: Hartshorne Woods Park has the most extensive and challenging trails in the Monmouth County Park System; over 15 miles.

The trails are well marked and caters to all hiker experience levels. The paved trail around the waters was a nice stroll. I think it was around 2 miles in total starting from the parking lot in the rocky trail. There is also a bathroom facility in the parking lot as well. It was clean and modern looking. The trail was fun. You get to loop around the water and trees with pops of history mixed in. Overall a nice place to hike. I will definitely be back to explore other areas of the park.

Pretty cool park with a history. Brought my bike and read that the hills were steep, and they sure are. If you are in for a bike challenge, this is it. If I go back, I will be on foot. Place is not too big but does have some great water views. There are picnic tables in lots of areas and also bathrooms were open and clean. The main trails are paved but there are also "in the wood" type trails to the immediate right when coming into the lot. I spotted an osprey and nest, was a nice surprise. There are also so wooded trail hikes off the paved path in the main area. I'll hit those next time.

What a fantastic and free park. The paved trail is really great work walking, running and, biking and I love all the wooded unpaved trails. There is even a small beach with calm water that is a great to take a break at. The bathroom at the main parking lot is clean and brand new. We will come back often.

Beautiful, scenic spot overlooking the Jersey shore. It is worth climbing a small hill near the entrance to get a glimpse of lush green field, trees and a patch of water.

Love the trails, Some are very challenging while others make for a great ride. Every time I go it seems like I find something new like different trails or just things along the way. Lots of history in that area

Loved strolling through this park. It had paved trails as well as more interior dirt paths. Views are awesome. Good for taking kids along and learn some history along the way. Views of Sandy hook, WWII bunkers, visit to the twin towers (light houses) historic site.

It's been years since I was in this park. The trails are just as nice now as they were back then. Very well marked and maintained. Some of the trails are wooded dirt trails and others are paved. Great views of the river and ocean from the battery trail. I walked a few of the shorter trails and most of the loop. It's a busy park, especially on wknds. There are other lots and other trails throughout the park land you can go to as well. This one also has a bathroom and water fountains for both human and pets. Great park with trails for all hiking levels. 3rd photo is proof of the lantern fly infestation in that area.

This is really great Park, with many trails, you can spot wild life, fairies, and gnomes. Fun place for people of all ages and interests. Only flaw for hikers is that some of the trailes are very much loved by the bikers, most of them are very nice and respectful but you still have to pay attention not to get run over by the ones with headphones not understanding that we all share the trails. I like to go there on the week days or early morning otherwise is can get busy there.

Did laurel ridge trail in it from buttermilk valley entrance. Would call it low level moderate trail. We did it with 7 and 4 year olds. No restrooms Was covered with trees all through the trail.

This is a nice park with some good little trails! The trails could be more clearly marked at points, but it’s easy enough to figure out where you are with a map. Nice views of the water. The Rocky Point Trail, as the map legend indicates, is more challenging terrain (gnarled branches/roots sticking out of the dirt) and has some slightly steep points. But it’s nice and shady, which is welcome when the sun is strong. Other loops seem to be mostly paved. Overall, a nice place to come walk for a few hours!

Quiet and some shade on bike paths. The 16 inch gun is huge!

Awesome place to go to hang out with kids. Plenty of space to ride their bicycles. Lots of biodiversity to witness. It would have been awesome if there are some benches set for people to rest.
