WARNING! Do not stay here! The mixed dorm photos are NOT what you get! They have photos of x4 single beds when they are in fact horrible, old, thin and squeaky bunk beds! They allow homeless people to share these rooms with you who are loud and make you very uncomfortable. The entire level I stayed on was extremely loud and never slept. There was one night when a male came into our female only dorm! The female at the front desk was extremely rude and unhelpful! The atmosphere is awful-feels dodgy and unfriendly and there is absolutely NO security for your things-they have these tiny boxes you need your own lock for but only 4 in a mixed dorm of 6! I had to call upper management and they were also extremely rude and did not want to help so I ended up forfeiting my payment & left to stay elsewhere and double paid due to the anxiety I got staying here! I would highly NOT recommend staying here for it’s hostel side-it is not safe nor fun for solo travellors!

Horrible. There is no way I'm ever coming back to this place. When we booked it the room appeared as a "shared room" with other people - NOT a mixed room - they tried to blame it on us that we did the reservation wrong and now my partner had to sleep one day on the street because it was fully booked the room for men for one of the days of our stay. The staff was rude, never understanding or empathetic. When we connected to the website we had made the reservation from they clearly said we did right, it was the hotel who chosed to write down the room as so. The reservation included breakfast -, never saw it! We had to purchase it on our own. My recommendation for all those people looking for a hotel in the beautiful NYC, you'll definitely find better places around the budget we payed for this hotel. Don't make the same mistake we did. Hopefully my review will help them with feedback as to improve in tranparency of the services. One more thing - the lift works super slowly and is extremely old.

I booked my stay over a month ago. We had a room for 6 people. We were coming from Ct and had the worst experience there. After a long drive we get to the hotel with the news that it was canceled. Told me they send an email instead of calling me. To make matters worst staff was very rude. We asked for them to help us or at least guide us where to go. Instead they sat around laughing and making jokes. Very unprofessional and inconsiderate. Thank God Soho hotel helped us and got a room last minute. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all

I tried to check into this hotel at 1 AM - I came from Los Angeles and my AirBnB was cancelled last minute. The person working the front desk told me to download the JURNY app to book and that there was plenty availability. When I did this, this hotel wasn’t even on the app. The person at the front desk was trying to contact someone from JURNY for over 30 minutes. Finally, it was clear they didn’t know how to book me a room so I left and gave my business to a hotel down the block. I’ve never been to a hotel where the person working there couldn’t book a room. Also, this JURNY partnership needs to be looked into.

*Fantastic restaurant and hotel* What a stunning meal and hotel! It's incredible how much detail there is. It feels like you're at a history museum combined with an art museum! Every possible amenity is provided in each room. The service is attentive and the meal is wonderful.

By far the best place I’ve ever stayed in the city. I usually don’t write reviews but had to for this place. The rooms are so cozy and spacious. The owner (Randy) and his family run this place and make you feel right at home and cared for. It’s a very unique experience and is now my go to hotel for my boyfriend and I. Also gotta try Randy’s Italian food!

The staffs' attitude was bad. They didn't care any questions I had with my dorm. There were only hair-dryer, towel, toilet paper and shampoo. Please bring your own toothbrush and sleepers. There was no locker or any wardrobes or drawers which could be locked. There was no space for storage designated or each bed. They did not do housekeeping every day. They simply changed my towel. The bed and blanket were fine but the pillow was too thin to sleep.

The staffs' attitude was bad. They didn't care any questions I had with my dorm. The Chinese girl didn’t want to listen to me, she gave me the reservation department number and told me to tell to them my problems. Nobody cares, just charge your money for nothing.

My stay at The Historic Blue Moon Hotel was a wonderful experience. My room was very large. It was much much larger and much more comfortable than a typical New York hotel room. My room was well equipped. The owners and the staff are friendly and helpful. I was away from home, but I felt like I was home. Originally a New Yorker I particularly enjoyed visiting the Blue Moon Hotel for it's old world charm and decor, that brings one back to the early 20th century Lower East Side. I would definitely stay here again! 5 stars!!!

Outstanding boutique hotel experience on the LES. We loved our stay so much, we added a second night! Fair price and carefully curated and clean rooms. The front desk made us feel welcome and went above and beyond — truly the best customer service and care. Cannot think of any notes, truly just a lovely experience, you can feel the history and care poured into this spot. Will be my go-to for future trips!

I had a spectacular experience at the Previous Blue Moon. As soon as I called to make a reservation, I knew over the phone that wonderful humans worked there. When I got there I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Dovid, who was very kind, friendly and attentive. He gave me a historical tour of the wall decor. He was very easy to talk to, and I ended up staying a couple hours chatting with him before exploring the city. I definitely feel like I made a new friend. The rest of the staff were really kind as well. The rooms were beautiful. They were specious while really embodying the New York apartment style. The rooms were clean and in an amazing location in the Chinatown area of Manhattan. Subways and businesses were easily in walking distance. They also have a neat little cafe in the lobby, with desserts made in-house. Truly a wonderful place.

Not a bad place to stay for my first time visiting New York but I do wish I had a little more privacy. Kinda odd that when I checked in there is a $50 deposit that was not known of the time when I planned my vacation. I thought I had my own room but was sharing a 6 bunk room which wasn't bad for my time being there. I do say get locks for your stuff just incase they won't take responsibility for anything that has been taken from your belongings. You also can't have any guests up to your room or you will be fined for it. I think it was around $50 to $100. Thankfully I don't know anyone in New York. Not a terrible place however. They do change the bedding everyday (I was there for 8 days total) the bathroom was cleaned as well everyday. They do provide wifi as well which is nice. I am sure the experience would have been much better if I had my own room but my time there wasn't bad at all and met some very kind people just as excited as me visiting New York.

I always stayed outside of Manhattan whenever I visited NYC. At that moment, I used to drive. But this time, I won't drive so wanted to stay in the city. My friend recommended this place for me and I enjoyed my stay there. Only thing, I did not like, the night shift staff at the counter was terrible and even I felt being insulted when I checked in. My bed was not ready at all, no pillow, no new sheets, etc. When I asked it, he did not say anything, just pointed his index finger to the cleaner at the corner. Then I had to ask it to the guy there. The cleaner was kind enough and nice. But I do not understand how the staff was frowning at the guest, even raised voice when I called to get the exact location(the entrance was a bit confusing with the cafeteria at first). Except that, it was lovely stay. Comfortable room, comfy bed, perfect location to hang around by metro in the city, etc. Personally, I did not take breakfast there since I do not like bread. The breakfast was quite simple with coffee & croissant. Most of staff, after my first day, all of them were friendly and smiley. I just advise you not to check in at night...

Recently worked on a film production where the hotel served as location. The hospitality and service were second to none and the owner Randy even treated the crew to lemon cake and tiramisu! A must stay for anyone visiting NYC or at the very least stop in for the dessert and a chat with the friendly staff!

We stumbled upon The Historic Blue Moon Hotel during a food tour of the Lower East Side. We walked in and the front desk person was so friendly and let us see a room. The room was so quaint with a great view of Manhattan from the balcony. What was nice was it had a fridge and even a hot plate. The place has been restored by the owner with artifacts from the tenements from the Lower East Side. He has decorated the walls with his artwork, including collages of old newspapers and even a child’s homework. When we were there, one of the owner’s daughters played classical piano while people dined. The restaurant is kosher and the food looked delicious. Definitely would stay here next time for a true NY experience!

So happy to have stayed at this hotel! The cost adds up, but that's NYC for you. But the room was great, the TV huge and the service was excellent. I would love to stay there anytime I'm in the Lower East Side! Also, how cool is it to stay in such a historic location, and building.

My husband and I stumbled on The Blue Moon Hotel while walking around the Lower East Side of Manhattan and knew we had to stay there next time we were in New York! The hotel is filled with charm and is across the street from the Tenement Museum. We planned a visit to the museum and stayed over at Blue Moon. It was a fabulous experience. Everyone who works there is incredibly friendly and interesting. The baked goods in the cafe are delicious (we took some home with us!) The rooms are very comfortable. We learned as much about the history of the area from the hotel owner as we did on the tour of the Tenement Museum. We had all kinds of plans for our visit, but what we enjoyed most was hanging out at the hotel and talking with the owner, his family, and the staff. This small hotel gives you an authentic New York experience. If you are planning a trip to NYC, be sure to stay at The Historic Blue Moon Hotel!!!

Rooms are very nice and the balcony is lovely, but the regular rooms are not very spacious because the beds are so big. Very comfortable beds though. Service was great. Randy, Dovid and Rick are very accommodating hosts, very kind and genuine chemistry between everyone who works at the hotel, and trustworthy staff. The only drawback for me is that the housekeeping was not as active as I would have liked. Location is perfect, right in the heart of manhattan where everything is going on. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

I would give this hotel ten stars if I could! The rooms are not only beautiful but really spacious. In a city where most hotel rooms are big enough to fit a bed and no more, our room had a table and chairs, and a fully supplied kitchenette. The building is a renovated tenement which has many historical details from the original building -- as Randy will proudly tell you when he greets you upon check-in. They even have artifacts on display in huge collages on the walls, so it's more like a museum. It's a welcome change from the standard soulless hotel rooms. This one is distinctly artistic and historic.

My brother and I enjoyed the blue moon. Big screen tv, jacuzzi tub, and a fantastic balcony the length of the whole building. Room was clean and staff were very helpful and friendly. They have a nice restaurant in the lobby. They are in need of some maintenance. Missing a shower door and balcony doors need proper repair, but we easily overlooked this.

What an amazing find! My husband, son and I really enjoyed our stay at the Historic Blue Moon last week. It's a great location, the room was spacious and had everything we needed and we really loved having a balcony. The owner and staff are so friendly and ready to help and do whatever they can to make you feel welcome!

I had the pleasure to stay at the Historic Blue Moon Hotel in NYC for a whole week. It is right off Delancy in the middle of everything. When I arrived, I learned that I had to walk through a little Italian cafe with homemade delicious treats in order to get to the main desk. I was greeted by Dovid, who was kind and friendly. He checked me in, and I made my way to the room. The room was simple, which is what I wanted. I was looking for a place to relax. It was quiet and comfy. There was a nice size television with Neflix and other channels. For me, the highlight was meeting the owner of the hotel, Mr. Randy Settenbrino. He was wonderful to talk to and extremely personal. Every time I saw him, we had stimulating discussions. If I lived in NYC, I could see myself spending time with him over a delicious meal. He was really a great delight. On my day of departure, I had the honor of meeting a classical piano student, who happens to be Randy's daughter. On an old piano in the back, she made it come alive by playing Bach and Chopin. That was certainly the cherry on the top for me on my experience at the Historic Blue Moon Hotel. If the Lord wills, I do plan on returning to this wonderful place. Thank you Randy for your kind hospitality. God bless you, my brother.

Night staff is surly and impatient. I was awakened at 2:30 in the morning by some drunken guests unable to get into their room and the the night clerk loudly talking and beeping the room code over and over. When I dared to ask what was going on, I was effectively told to go back to sleep and mind my own business. Delightful.

We stayed at the Blue Moon Hotel (no longer Hostel) and absolutely loved it! The owner did a great job restoring this building to much of its original glory. The rooms still have the character of the original building but have modern finishes. The Cafe experience was lovely, we had a Panini, Pasta, Soup, and coffee and each dish was delicious. The service as well was great! We plan to come back again soon!

I love this whimsical, wonderful place. The well appointed rooms are named after some stars from a bygone era, so it's a nice touch of nostalgia. There's a great cafe in the lobby that has great teas and pastries. It is truly a great place to stay!

I had a superb experience here and it's unforgettable. The things i like about the hotel was their way to treat the customer, their super delicious food and the quick services also the food was fresh and hygienic If i talk about the staff was also nice and have manner that how to talk with the customer. The room i stayed was also have good infrastructure. The price i think OK for the services and food they provide. Finally i would like to recommend this place if anyone in need to stay.

Booked long in advance on booking.com after a long flight only for them to tell me that my credit card was declined and had no place to stay! Even though that same card worked perfectly everywhere else in the US. Booking here is NO guarantee that they will keep your reservation as double bookings is their policy.

Affordable stay for business/travel. Very cute and everything was clean. Booked a 4 style dorm but instead got a 6 person one. While checking-in (around 9:45pm) the women seemed she could careless and was mumbling. There was no lockers or somewhere safe to place items. When I returned from going out, I had $20 missing :/ The man in the morning checking-out was nice asking how my stay was. Cafe inside is pretty good and reasonably priced. It's an ok stay for what you get.

A nice hostel. Good points : great location, near public transports, restaurants, bars, etc. I was lucky to stay on the 8th floor, so I had a great view. The room (6 beds, female dorm) had a bathroom and both were clean. They give a towel. Bad points : the room was a bit cold at night. The hostel might be a bit old and seems to need some repairs, like the elevator. The bed was okay but there was no reading light. So if the main light was off, it was complicated to read. And if you are not sleeping on a lower bed (they have bunkbeds in the dorms), you cannot access a power outlet... and one guy from the staff (cleaning man probably) was quite rude to me. A bit expensive and maybe noisy... but it's New York... Overall I did not have a bad time there, it was okay, but maybe some improvements could be made...

Clean, quiet and honest space. I stayed in the shared room and I was a little concerned since it was the first time I had this kind of experience. It was a very nice surprise. They are very organized, and the other guests were also very respectful. I could sleep well and rest for another day of tourism in NYC! Great bed, good location, walking distance to two subway stations.

In my first visit in New York City, this is where I stayed. At first, I was unsure if I can handle sharing a dorm in a Co-ed room. But was cheaper for me since a Private room was too expensive. Though everything worked out just fine. The hotel is alright. What's great about this location its close to Manhattan and other transit to get there faster. The co-ed experience was good lots of friendly people I met. I recommend.

Slightly confusing reservation process. When we 2 arrived in our room, for 6 people, the place was beautiful, great view and balcony, clean, tidy, and smelling great. There were three 2-person bunk beds as it was a co-ed dormitory style room. Our bunk bed was in a separate area with a door. We went out, during the other hostel occupants arrived and made themselves comfortable. Not sure if it was their feet or their bodies, but the nice smell that had been there on our arrival was seriously GONE! Wow, I don't know what their issues were, but their odors destroyed all comfort and peace. Their stench had completely taken over the entrance, the common area, and even the bathroom which was in our portion of the suite, so they had to pass through our room occasionally, spreading the hideous smell every time they did. We were careful to keep our door closed while there and while we were away. Very thankful we had that door. Aside from the huge, odiferous downer, Blue Moon was lovely.

The Blue Moon provides a historically and culturally rich atmosphere with an artistic flair. Whether you book for a classy, and aesthetic place to return to after a day of exploring the concrete jungle, or a comftorable, peaceful place for you to stay while you travel for work, Blue Moon has what you are looking for.

My husband and I grew up in NY and now live in Boca Raton. We are very familiar with the city and have stayed in some of the most incredible hotels in the city. The Blue Moon cannot be compared as it was curated with love & is homemade. We appreciate The Blue Moon Hotel, it is unique and thoughtful. The rooms are well kept and large. The beds were comfortable and linens nice. Randy and his wife were welcoming and clearly take great pride in the beautiful property they designed and restored. It was a great privilege to be hosted by these wonderful people. Dovid who greeted us when we arrived is a warm and hospitable gentlemen. Dovid thank you for the incredible blessing you gave us on the way out the door! We are so excited to come back to Stay with you in November.

The nicest hotel I've ever been in the city, by far. The rooms are very roomy and comfortable. This facility is owned and operated by Randy and his family, who make you feel very welcome and well-cared for. It's a really special experience, and my partner and I now always stay there. You should also try Randy's Italian cuisine!

I recently stayed at The Historic Blue Moon Hotel, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The hotel has a charming vintage vibe, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable, though some areas could use a bit of updating. The location is convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions. Considering the affordable pricing for a 3-star hotel, I'd say it's a decent choice for a short stay.

Coming in off the streets of NYC feels like entering a portal into a different time. Where attention to detail, ambiance, and quality matters. The experience is one that can only be had by a family run hotel such as this one. The rooms were not only beautiful but felt like a full studio apartment. Didn’t feel the normal cramming into small hotel rooms where my only goal is to get some sleep and leave. Each room felt like a place I can live in for weeks on end. The cafe had some of the best Italian food I have had. The experience is enhanced by the art work all over the restaurant, which is all the work of the owner (Israel) an accomplished artist. He takes the time to explain each painting and the history behind it. This was all accompanied by the owner’s children, all classically trained musicians playing some of the most beautiful music on the piano located in the restaurant throughout our meal. This is one of the most beautiful and unique experiences in NYC. I recommend everyone in town give it a try.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Historic Blue Moon Hotel, and it was a delightful experience. The hotel's historical charm adds a unique touch to the overall ambiance. The staff was friendly and accommodating, making check-in a breeze. The room, though not overly luxurious, was comfortable and clean, providing a cozy atmosphere for a good night's sleep. The central location allowed for easy exploration of nearby attractions, and the hotel's historical significance added an extra layer of interest to my stay. While it may not boast all the amenities of a higher-starred hotel, The Historic Blue Moon Hotel offers a pleasant and affordable option for those seeking a charming and nostalgic accommodation.

I will most likely stay here again when I visit the area in the future.

All the staff gave outstanding hospitality, making the place feel friendly and inviting for each and every visitor. Our stay was enhanced by the unique attractiveness of each terrace, which unveiled breathtaking views of Manhattan's Lower East Side. Every hallway exhibited a work of art.
