DON'T BE SUCKED IN BY CHEAP PRIVATE ROOM DEALS - I choose this hotel as it was the most affordable private room in the area. The concept of this hotel is far more noisy that hostels, as although you cannot see other guests, you can hear everything. It makes for a very unpleasant sleep. In addition the bathrooms are so small. They even have a sign reminding waiting guests to not use the showers as toilets while they wait. Please do not stay here, instead pay a little more for a private room in a hostel.

The only good thing about this place is the location and the staff. The private “rooms” are a nice concept, except the walls are not floor to ceiling and are just open so you essentially are sharing this space with 20+ other people. Pictures and descriptions online are very misleading. The staff really stressed keeping it quiet at all times during check in, but everyone else staying there seemed to miss that memo. The women’s bathroom was flooded because again, people did not pay attention to directions in which it tells you to keep the shower curtain inside the shower. The ceiling was also dripping onto your head because it must have been flooding in the above bathroom as well. They tell you not even set alarms in the morning to keep it quiet, but at 630 am I was woken up by slamming doors, people chatting, not caring about anyone else around. In the women’s cabins, you can hear everyone, even in the lobby. Terrible terrible. No privacy whatsoever. If getting 4 hours of sleep and loud, rude people is your thing, then stay here.

Low cost, excellent location. The rooms are quite small, but it is worthy given the cost/location.

The place is very small but cozy. Unlike other reviews, I liked the staff very much, they are all so helpful. The room and the beds are small, but is a great cost benefit staying. Near the subway station, it is well located and you can get whatever you want in Manhattan very fast. Shared baths are always clean, and it has a great rooftop.

A nice place for folks seeking their own small space. While I was there I had a cabin room. It was just big enough for a single bed, a small table, and a little bit of floor space. Fine if you don't have a lot of luggage. A large hiking pack would have taken up a lot of room. Not a good place to sleep if you are taller than 5'10". Literally, the wall starts at the end of the bed. I was there on a Tuesday, and it was very quiet. Air conditioner was in order and served well. Very friendly staff. All-in-all a nice place to catch up on sleep, if you plan on hitting the town, and not spending a lot of time in the hotel room.

Not bad for the price you're paying. The cabins are small and sound travels through the lattice ceilings. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed using the lounge and the rooftop garden. Thought I wasn't keen on using the shared bathrooms, they were very nice and kept clean.

Those are not "rooms", those are cells... or boxes if you like. With no ceiling and ALL the rumours of the other guests there to hear. You should write it on your website. And stop scamming your customers. Terrible. Shameful.

Read a lot of bad reviews before I came here but most seem to be from people who didn't read the description of the place. It was exactly what I was expecting. The beds in the original cabins are small but comfortable. The building is lovely, you can sense the history and it has been well done up. The rooftop patio is great, as are the lounge rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend bringing a robe and flip flops for the shared bathroom. The bathrooms are well decorated with waterfall showers, but the hot water was lacking. Every time I took a shower there didn't seem to be enough hot water. Apart from that I couldn't recommend this place enough! Great base for exploring New York - well located near many subway stops and neighbourhood feels safe.

Okay so I didn't know this place was a hostel type "hotel" before I booked it. You do get your own small room (they have a bigger more secluded room that is more) but you can hear (clearly) everything and everyone around you. The bathing rooms are shared and if your unlucky not on the same floor you're on. They ask that you do not eat in your rooms but in the shared living room and they do lock the doors at 11 (you can get back in you just have to buzz). The front desk clerks were very nice but seemed a bit unorganized but for the price and location I highly recommend as long as you're okay with the above.

Real rubbish...... be careful, you will be given earplugs in the room or told everything

You get what you pay for. Great location! The room was private but there isn’t a proper ceiling so you can hear EVERYTHING. Word to the wise use the ear plugs. The staff was very polite and at check in made sure I knew it was a hostel and not a hotel. The bathrooms were fine. The cleaning staff came through constantly. My only complaint is that the only mirror is the one at the sinks near the showers which is a very wet and high traffic areas. Be prepared to do your hair and makeup with a lot steam around you or do it blindly in your room.

Stayed there on March and there was no hot water for several days, you couldn't even take a hot shower, and they specifically advertised having premium bath products and facilities. Also, individual cabins' beds were short for even avg height men like me.

This is scam! Avoid this hotel if you can. This isn’t a hotel at all, it’s even less than a hostel. It shouldn’t have 3 stars whatsoever. It shouldn’t even cost more than $25 usd per night. It was a total deception, my friends and I had the worst time staying there. It was filthy, dark and sketchy. The only ladies bathroom was always flooded, and the men’s was broken. So having a shower was not an option. The rooms are like closets, you will feel like staying in a shoe box, they are roofless, so you better keep the earplugs on or else you won’t be able to sleep with all the noises around you. And lastly, be careful with drunk men resting in the common areas and the cockroaches hiding in the dark aisles. No wonder they dim the lights! We ended up leaving a night early, not caring about not getting the money back as long as we went to a normal clean hotel.

I'm going to give it 3/5.  No bedbug issues thankfully ! It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop! Also, a very good option if you're a solo traveler ballin' on a budget exploring NYC. IF YOU SNORE, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU! Very nice "hostel" ambiance "flop house". The staff was very hip. Something I expected to find at a place like this. The housekeeps were there all hours of the day and the night checking hallways and rooms/bathrooms constantly. Although, I didn't really "stay the night". I arrived at 8am every morning to scour through the already gone breakfast, and in a very NY. Hipster way - you got to ask them to refill the breakfast area! IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!  Overall, it was a good stay. I was given a discount for the next time I decide to return. Not bad for the price, location, some food, and room with window!

Historic, visually appealing, and friendly staff, but otherwise pretty bad experience. The walls are paper thin and there isn't a ceiling... Our "cabin" was across from the men's bathroom, which was easily the worst room in the hostel. We didn't sleep at all. If you are looking for a place to crash after the club and you don't care much about sleeping then this is the place for you. Bathrooms were clean and the bed was comfortable but the place was dark. Not the best experience, and probably not worth the price of the room.

I love staying here, but I’m going to be honest about some improvements it needs. The house rules include not being able to set alarms. They ask that you let them know when you need to be woken up and they will come knock; however, both times I asked to be woken up, the staff forgot to come. Not only that, but there is a huge problem with people setting alarms in the morning anyway and letting them ring forever, sometimes at 4 o’clock in the morning. There are no sound barriers, so this is not acceptable. Secondly, I think a mirror in each room would add a lot of value. It would help decrease the added noise from people walking around, opening and closing doors, to get to the bathrooms to get ready. Maybe one of those over-the-door cheap full length $20 mirrors from Walmart? Other than than, traveling as a single woman, I like the sense of community this place has, I never feel alone. I feel safe having my own room. I enjoy how cozy the rooms are. And I feel like the crowd that uses this hostel is very respectful, well-mannered, and purposeful. It’s obvious a lot of business folks stay here so it adds to my sense of comfort in who my neighbors are. It is a hostel, it’s unlike any place I would ever agree to stay in any other city, but for New York, I like the price, I like the safe place to sleep, and it’s very cozy for a solo traveler who intends on being out and about for most of their stay.

The rooms that they advertise as queen size rooms with privacy are........ surprising and different. The ceilings are open and it's quite.... well non-personal. However, the bathrooms are very clean, they supply towels and comfortable beds and all the shower gels you may need. Overall it's worth the price.

Amazing location and really helpful staff, but there little protection from noise (the private rooms have no ceiling) , there aren’t many showers for how many people it hosts and I had change rooms after the first night because of a pretty bad case of bed bugs (they did offer to do laundry for all my cloths to be fair). In a nut shell, not a fantastic stay, but location wise amazing.

Do NOT make a reservation. They charge you even though you cancel the reservation during free of charge period. And never answer. They just take your money.

This is a great place to stay, especially for the price. It is relatively quiet and dark at night but the ear plugs do help. Yes the cabins are small but I don't really need that much space. The less money i spend on a plane e to stay the more money I have for bagels and theatre tickets and that's what's important to me. The only thing I wish the rooms had were mirrors.
