The lady behind the counter wanted me to understand the Kids CAN NOT TOUCH ANYTHING. ABSOLUTELY NO TOUCHING OF ANYTHING." Nothing is cordoned btw and the guy, her colleague who showed us a few things DID TOUCH everything he showed, THE REBEL. I clinged a large bell with my wedding band. She flew out of her cave to make sure I know NO KIDS NOR ADULTS can touch anything. I get the protection part of it but if everything is out on the floor, dont let kids under 10 inside. Update she just sent me a message telling me to die and then blocked me. She truly is a gem.

This museum is absolutely full of history and nostalgia for the machinery, services, volunteers, heroism and people of New York City Fire. After buying a couple of shirts I was given an autobiography of a firefighter which was interesting reading. I really enjoyed wandering the halls of this place. I love old machines and really enjoyed being able to get close to the equipment. The building is fascinating with horse drawn gear right through to the near modern day. The ground floor is #accessible but the upper floor is not. There is a childrens educational exhibit. Stick this on your New York List. #letsguide

How could you not give this place 5 stars. My dad was a fireman for 20+ years and this place is an amazing tribute to those who have bravely served NYC. Some of my favorites are the old fire trucks, paintings, and memorials for fallen heroes. If you are in the neighborhood or interested, I’d highly recommend stopping in.

We didn't have an extended amount of time to listen to the self-guided audio tour. For the parts that we did listen to, the audio was very helpful. There was a group of families touring through what seemed like a birthday celebration. One lady was handing a badge to the kids in the group. The 2 rooms I really enjoyed were the room with the timeline and history of firefighting in the city and the room paying tribute to the 9/11 firefighters who lost their lives. It's worth going through and learning the history.

Small, 2 floor museum. Yet, it it full of history and artifacts. If you love firemen, firehouse, and / or firefighting, this is a must. I think all New Yorkers should go. Not expensive to enter. Not an all day thing but worth the trip. Keep your kids on a leash.

Great place to visit, especially with kids. Purchased our tickets ahead of time online. This was a great place to spend some time in the afternoon. Seeing the old fire trucks, the 9/11 memorial, and learning about fire safety was great. Will definitely visit again!

Great place to visit and not far from the subway. They have several old restored engines and quite a few relics of bygone ages. The Revolutionary War exhibit is excellent. 1-2 hours is how long to budget for this museum.

It's worth the visit! It's not a big fancy museum but it was a good addition to our trip. We enjoyed seeing the history of the fire engines.

See photo which is the QR Code for the Tour. There is a lot of information in this building for such a small space. I took over 100 photos! This is the former FDNY Engine Company Number 30 in a renovated 1904 Fire House. It's sadly not ADA Compliant. You cannot navigate a wheelchair downstairs as the exhibits are very close to each other. I don't think a walker or wheeled walker can navigate the space. If you use a cane and have good agility the downstairs flooring is not an even, smooth surface. But there is an elevator. However you still have to use stairs to access the bathrooms on floor 1 1/2 landing. The stairs are evenly spaced and have a strong railing that was a banister to the 1st Floor. The bathrooms are not unisex. They instruct you to tour the bottom floor then go to floor two. Chronologically you should see the pre and Colonial exhibit on Floor 2 first. The 9-11 room is downstairs and while beautifully done there is a jarring disconnect due to the museum's small size to stop on the subject of music then walk straight into the children's interactive exhibit immediately afterwards. The Museum documents a variety of aspects of life with the predecessor and current FDNY. There are several antique vehicles and currently they have a reproduction on loan from Colonial Williamsburg. The Museum documents Marine Division, Marching Band and even the Emergency Kit for Last Rites in the Catholic Church so a priest just needs to have in person access. Gift shop was well stocked with unisex sizing and there was a substantial gift items for children.

I enjoyed visiting the New York City Fire Museum. It is centrally located. It was not busy when I visited it which gave more time to appreciate all the exhibits. There are quite old fire equipment in display. It made me appreciate even more the importance that the fire department has had in the lives of so many through out the years.

Cool little museum with an interesting collection of fire fighting paraphernalia. The museum explains the history of fire fighting in New York City, including improvements in equipment and how fire fighters were organized prior to the FDNY.

I had so much fun here seeing the amazing versions of fire trucks from the past I don’t even know how they could save people with some of this equipment. Huge respect to the firefighters of the past and today

I thought it was really cool, the people that worked there were very friendly, and I wish I got to spend more time there. Unfortunately, my 4 year old wasn’t interested at all so I didn’t get to stay long. I thought it would have been more kid friendly with fire trucks that kids could sit in or even a pretend fire truck like the one at the Children’s museum of manhattan on upper west side, which my son loves, but the one kid section was pretty lame for kids of any age.

Great little spot full of FDNY history. I would recommend a guide as they would have more information and background of the history of the Department. Lots of cool antiques and equipment from 100+ years ago

It was a nice museum but employees have no patience with kids. Went there for a school trip and every single employee got annoyed by their questions and curiosity from the older ones to the younger ones. There was 1 guy who had a good attitude towards the lesson but the rest made the whole trip miserable

This is a gem of a museum. We took our 2 1/2 year old grandson whose uncle is a Lieutenant in the FDNY and he was mesmerized by everything. And we were lucky enough to be there during a beautiful Sept. 11 memorial service.

Small but well stocked museum with very old fire engines. I wish they had a small modern section set up for kids that they would view more closely or even touch or more modern graphics around the older engines to help engage children.

We went for a school trip. and it was really fun. They have this special room where the children got to learn what to do in the real life like pretend case of fire. There also fire truck from different era and tools that the fire fighters use to save people life.

Wonderful museum about firefighters history and brave men and women.

The fire safety learning center has been cleverly designed and modelled to appeal to children. The children learn about fire safety and hazards in a way they easily relate to and you are certain they shall not forget any time soon. The 9/11 fallen firefighters are honored at the museum.

This place is not bad — I spent 35 minutes there. Highlight is the 9/11 memorial and the photography exhibit + movie. Also spoke to a firefighter who was viewing the exhibit — that seems to be a lot of the traffic, so feel free to say hi. An overview of the size of today’s FDNY (size, locations, gear, etc) would have been cool. Some small things the museum could improve that I don’t think would cost much: • More audio / video content on the 2nd floor • Instead of website for audio tour, add QR codes around museum for easy access • Instead of app for audio tour, just put the audio on a website. I think Bloomberg foundation has grants for this? • Add closed captioning to movie in photography exhibit downstairs • Add a sound bar or just some external speaker to the movie downstairs for better audio quality • More magnets or FDNY swag in the gift shop would be cool. I’d buy!

Attended a birthday party here, which was really amazing. Such a great venue. A HUGE extra special thanks goes to Cyan, who was an absolute wonder with the children. She went above and beyond and made the day extra magical. Highly recommend.

We loved this museum.Tickets are very cheap, and the museum is 2 floors. They have amazing replicas or originals of the fire departments equipment and things. And a whole room dedicated for 9/11 remembrance. The entire experience was educational and moving and we really walked out of there feeling a lot of different emotions. The staff were also extremely kind and friendly and the atmosphere was quite nice.

Very nice museum with lots of history. It's a quick tour (about 30- 40 min is sufficient to see everything) Took our 4 year old, he was a little too young to appreciate the history, but he enjoyed it nonetheless.

As if July 28, 2022, this anti-science and anti-children place continues to force masks on toddlers. If you like seeing faces of your smiling, laughing children - don't take them here. But if you enjoy faceless dehumanized society, then this is the place for you!

Very interesting museum filled with old fire engines, uniforms and anecdotes of New York fire fighters over the past centuries. The 9/11 memorial room was poignant and had us in tears as we reflected on their heroic sacrifice.
