This place is small and tucked out of sight on the second floor of a multi-use building. But if you are on a trip to NYC with young kids, and have been marching thru gigantic museums you will appreciate this place. It is a small space filled with photos and artifacts of the 9/11 clean up and recovery effort. It is moving and informative, but spares us the horrors of the actual event. The audio tour is very interesting and easy for adults and kids alike.

Awesome spot to come across. This museum is run by the only official photography allowed in Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks. He was personally there for months and months documenting the search and recovery process from day one. Gary was a pleasure to be around and ask questions to and it was an honor to meet him. The museum is small and personal with so many important pictures, artifacts, and documents. The way the audio tour is set up is great, and allows you to move at your own pace. Being able to touch the artifacts was also very unique and appreciated. A definite must go for those wishing to learn the in depth view point about Ground Zero and the intense process that unfolded there during and following 9/11.

10/10. Such a wonderful and eye opening experience. You learn about the people affected during 9/11 and their stories through harrowing photos & items found from Ground Zero. Gary put so much care and love into the museum. He is very personable and we had a great time. This is a must when visiting NYC!

Whilst we were in NYC we did all the main attractions. The 9/11 workshop was by far the most interesting and best value. It may only be a small museum but there was plenty there to engross us for nearly 3 hours. The museum curator Gary really cares about the stories that need to be told regarding the artefacts found during the recovery operation. You learn much more than from the fairly sterile larger 9/11 Museum next to the memorial pools. He was onsite for months during that period and has numerous tales of hope and heartache from those times. The only chance you will get to see and hold real items from the Twin Towers. Thanks Gary for a thought provoking afternoon. Stuart and Natalie in England.

Wow. Just wow. Gary's photography is beautiful and emotional. My eyes welled up with tears listening to his narration. This museum is well worth checking out and honestly I enjoyed more so than the Tribute Museum. The 9/11 Museum Workshop is more intimate and allows more time to really embrace the impact of the tragic day of 9/11. Definitely visit, you won't be disappointed. And Gary is down to earth and will answer all your questions.

A must for anyone interested in 9/11. A small and intimate space, with relics from the building you can touch and recovery stories by those who worked on the pile. Gary's photography is unique as he was there for months alongside firefighters working on the recovery. It brings another perspective to the 9/11 story. Gary's passion for documenting the recovery through photographs is a moving experience. Must see. Thank you Gary for your devotion to telling this side of the story.

This was the highlight of my 88 year old mother’s and my trip to NYC. The experience is highly emotional but is done in the most respectful, authentic manner. My dear friend who lost her first responder husband (with triplet toddlers at the time) said she finds this to be a beautiful tribute and historical masterpiece. If SHE approves, I feel there is no higher seal of approval. To me, the art is not meant to be gruesome sensationalism, but rather a sober understanding of the magnitude of 9-11 with a clear sense of how many people rushed to try to help. It let me shed tears and feel tremendous sorrow, yet it also gave me an overwhelming feeling of finding some sense of healing. I felt enormous pride, gratitude and brother/sisterhood with the countless documented pictures and stories about acts of heroism and also about the genuine shared grief that tragically but also lovingly connects so many people. This will be a life changing visit for anyone who visits the museum. The gift shop has many beautiful keepsakes at all price ranges. I didn’t want a souvenir like that I might purchase at an amusement park. But I wanted something to bring home to remember my visit and to continue to feel connected to everyone who was touched by 9-11. The manager of the gift shop went above and beyond to personally help me locate a particular item I wanted. It was not even an expensive item AT ALL and yet he treated my elderly mother and me with welcome and appreciation as if we were making a million dollar purchase or donation. You will be profoundly moved and so grateful for the experience of visiting Ground Zero Museum Workshop.

this was a great experience as an adult and also for the kids! really appreciate the time and work put in for the exhibits 🙌 it did take us some time to find the place because it was a door on the street but it was worth the time walking there, especially with the headphones for a nice audio experience 🎧 recommend for any first-timers in new york like ourselves! 👍 NOTE: you can go in without a ticket 🎟 or a pass but you need to pay at the door. they take credit cards! $25 for each adult and $19 for each kid.

Great experience. Cozy little museum but filled with artifacts and information. Went to the larger 9/11 museum and didn’t feel like I got as much out of it as I did in this smaller space. Not only do you get to see exclusive pictures and actually hold pieces from ground zero but you get to meet, in my opinion, an American hero who has persevered the memory of the fallen and what happened that day. Not only is it a great experience but this museum supports the charities and foundations of those who served and lost their lives which stands it apart yet again.

Wonderful to learn the stories, feel the emotions of the recovery workers and pay tribute to all those that lost their lives on the most impactful day in history! Gary was kind enough to open the museum on a day off. His passion for documenting 911 history through pictures/audio then sharing it with the world is priceless. My three children were engaged and moved for the entire tour. Thank you Gary for your kindness! Kristina

We were lucky enough today to visit the 9/11 Museum Workshop and it was a real eye opener with tragic accounts of the aftermath and search and rescue attempts carried out by many. The audio that is provided on every item in the museum is extremely accurate. The information can be confronting but entirely relevant to show the respect of all of those special people who were involved in search and rescue. There is also the opportunity to physically touch items from this tragic event. Don't miss this this little gold mine of information. Kind Regards Matt and Maree Harrison. The Aussies.

I'm connected to New York since so many years, with my good friends they've lost beloved onces in this tragedy that shocked the world and myself until today and it will never go away. I'm so thankful for this detailed documentary with all the pieces and the very personal stories. This is a space that honors so many they've made the ultimate sacrifice and we can't even imagine. For me it was and still is and will always be a personal and touching experience and I will come back, just to say "hello" and "thank you" to Maja (she was an amazing host and very kind to us) and Gary Maron Suson the photographer. You've done an amazing job here and thank you for creating this museum. It was a rollercoaster for me with goosebumps and tears coming and going. But it was also a relief to experience it in this museum with headphones and hearing the personal story on my ears.Thank you so much. Sascha -- I've put a piece I got from you on my wall for the 9/11 memories.

This was a truly unique experience, unlike any other museum I've been to. Gary, the museum curator, is there during the tour to answer questions and share his stories. There is something different about a firsthand eyewitness account and being able to touch actual artifacts from Ground Zero. He also has some amazing photographs and does a fantastic job of honoring all who were affected. This will give you a different perspective of this tragic day. It is self-guided so you can spend as little or as much time as you want- did not feel touristy at all and was an amazing tribute to this tragic day. Highly recommend.

This is a must see while in NYC. His pictures really capture the emotion and the audio brings it to life. He also takes the time to speak with you and answers any questions you have.

It's difficult to articulate how this museum made me feel, or even begin to do it justice with a review. It's a unique, heartfelt tribute to the heroes of 9/11. This is a bespoke well thought out exhibition which was made even more moving by the presence of Gary Marlon Suson (the photographer) himself. Gary has clearly put his heart and soul into telling the story of the service men, women and animals who contributed and lost their lives both during and in the years following the 9/11 tragedy. 100 photographs and artifacts are presented with an informative, slickly put together audio guide. Gary openly welcomed any questions we had and you can even touch the artifacts themselves if you wish to. The museum was extremely quiet and would suit people who find large, crowded museums overwhelming and frustrating. I think all involved in putting this museum together ought to be proud of themselves, it takes bravery to be so heavily involved in such a tragedy and to take and share photographs and stories like this. We will never forget it.

A must see before you head to the memorial itself. As an Army veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq, it was extremely meaningful to see these artifacts and the photographs of our emergency responders. It will also provide context before you visit the 9-11 museum. Grateful that Gary has put this small but impactful museum for the public to Never Forget! Please put this on your list of things to do! Located in a great area of unique restaurants either before or after the visit.

This museum dedicated to the 911 attacks might be the best privately curated museum I've toured in years. The man that owns and operates this Gary and he comes to this from an amazing perspective. He was the photographer given all access and permission to shoot photographs within ground zero. He was right down in the mud during the investigation, remains recovery and salvage operations. He has in depth and personal knowledge of the situation very few people had or ever will have. He was eve made an honorary battalion chief by FDNY. He has artifacts rarely seen anyplace else and many of them you can actually touch. Gary is there, in person while you tour his museum. He gives you an audio guide that is simple and easy to use. That guide gives you personal and in depth info on every artifact and every photograph. All narrated, personally, by him. So much of the info and details brings up really strong emotions as he doesn't sugar coat anything. The feelings and information is direct and honest. It's a very emotional tour. Gary feels a personal responsibility to tell this story as fate put him and his camera in a unique place, at a unique time. If you want to experience a very personal narration of this tragedy and American history, I highly recommend this tour. I left this museum was a far deeper understanding of the impact on the lives, people and families of those lost on that faithful morning. Thank you so much Gary for what you have done and continue to do.

As promised here is our review. It's a wonderful place where you can touch a small part of that pain with your hand. Not to mention the Gladiator background music which as soon as I heard it started making me cry. You are an outstanding person. Your friends from Rome, Marco and Jasmine.
