The Ukrainian Institute Of America (UIA) is a leading and renowned institution dedicated on featuring and promoting the art and literature of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora. In recent times, the UIA has been featuring vivid art, film screenings and educational programs on the Russo-Ukrainian War, and the tremendous plight and resistance of the Ukrainian people. The UIA is currently based in the Harry F. Sinclair House, a mansion located on the Upper East Side Of Manhattan. Built between 1897 and 1899, and designed by prominent architect, Cass P Gilbert, the mansion once served as the private residence, albeit in a successive fashion, of New York businessmen Isaac Fletcher, Harry F. Sinclair & and the Stuvyesant family descendants. It contains 27 rooms and has been regarded as one of the finest French Renaissance mansions. Due to its distinctive architectural design, impressive size and its rich history, the Harry F. Sinclair House was added to the National Register Of Historic Places and was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark!!! In August of 2023, I brought and treated myself and my wife for a visit to the UIA and we were immediately captivated by their sheer size and beauty of this magnificent mansion. When exploring the museum, both my wife and I were quite impressed with the eclectic Ukrainian art pieces, and the video footage that vividly captures the lives of Ukrainians during the war. Our favorite exhibits were the Vasyl Diadyniuk: Historical Portraits & Nellie Fedchun: A Tribute to Significant Form. Both my wife and I very much enjoyed our time at the UIA. If you admire learning and viewing art and literature, then we definitely encourage you to visit this superb attraction. Prior to stopping by at the UIA, we recommend that you visit the institute’s website to research their opening hours. The institute is open to the public on limited basis and the website will feature what days and hours they are accessible. On a side note, my wife and I very much support the Ukrainian people and hope and pray that the Russian Ukrainian War will come to a swift and just end.

Beautiful and historic building on the edge of the park at 79th and 5th. It's one of the coolest buildings in Manhattan. The staff is friendly and will take care of you when you rent the space. I've been here for many events and they are always special.

Lovely classical concert to close the 34th season. Solomiya Ivakhiv, violinist; Amit Peled Cellist; Bernadene Blaha Pianist. As the sun set through the window and the lights turned on at the Met, the talented band shared context before playing songs that evoked a range of emotions and images. From wedding and folk dances, depth that carried me away to curiosity about culture and prior generations in other countries, their music transported me to lovely places.

Beautiful building. Nice historical exhibits about the building and Ukrainians in the US in addition to housing a permanent Archipenko exhibit. There's always a rotating exhibit of art. They are all worth going to see. A quiet oasis in the middle of Manhattan.

Interesting house, friendly staff Jus Volodymyr (William) is an industrialist, inventor, philanthropist. He was born on January 5, 1895 in the village of Chernykhivtsi in Halychyna (now the territory of Zbaraz district of Ternopil region). In 1914, he emigrated with his parents to the United States and settled in West Islip, near New York. Even in his youth, Volodymyr (who took the middle name William) showed exceptional abilities in technical fields of knowledge and, although he did not receive a diploma of higher education, he was constantly interested in scientific achievements in technology - especially the aviation industry attracted his attention. V. Jus began working on a simple but very important element of improving the lock mechanism for the hood of aircraft. It was necessary to take into account the anti-vibration factor and at the same time to increase the durability of the mechanism due to the high level of load. The inventor became the author of a fastener called "Juice Fastener", patented the invention and started his own business (first setting up a workshop in a small garage). This discovery eventually made W. Jus famous and began to bring a stable profit - as early as 1933, William managed to finance the construction of his own factory - Jus Fastener Koink. With the first free money, he began to open libraries, schools, as well as a museum for the Ukrainian community in West Islip, and paid great attention to the professional education of employees. Innovative airbrush products of the inventor's enterprises began to enter the European export market already in 1935, and three years later, Volodymyr Jus built factories in Great Britain and France. During the Second World War, the locking lock began to be used massively in US military equipment. At that time, the industrialist was engaged in active charitable activities: his enterprises financed the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The philanthropist was also concerned about the life of the Ukrainian diaspora in the West. He set himself the goal of preserving the historical roots, the culture of the native people, the language and being able to influence state institutions, which was embodied in a concrete plan: immediately after the end of the Second World War, Volodymyr Jus began preparing the opening of a Ukrainian center that would satisfy the scientific, cultural and information needs of Ukrainians from all regions of North America. This is how the project of creating a specialized institute appeared. The inventor personally appealed to 20 well-known Ukrainian emigrant families in the USA with the offer to become the founders of the new institution. On May 3, 1948, the Ukrainian Institute of America (UIA) was incorporated in West Islip, New York, and Volodymyr Jus was elected its first president. The statute of the UIA clearly defined the directions of its work: to spread, support and spread all kinds of manifestations of Ukrainian political and cultural activity by organizing and supporting public meetings, thematic discussions and professional reports, scientific conferences and symposia, various educational events, art exhibitions, concerts, theater performances, literary evenings, as well as to strengthen ties with the intellectual circles of the American world, to promote the education of the young generation of Ukrainian scientists, inventors and other creative forces in the form of various incentives and scholarships, to help emigrants from Ukraine adapt to the conditions of American life. In 1955, Vladimir Jus provided a financial grant for the purchase of one of the historic buildings in New York on Fifth Avenue. Built in 1898 by prominent architect Charles Gilbert in the Eclectic Renaissance style, this building, an architectural landmark, has become the center of life for the Ukrainian diaspora. Having changed its address, the Ukrainian Institute of America, together with other important institutions (Ukrainian Free Academy of Sciences, Slavic studies departments of many universities, editors of radio stations "Freedom" and "Voice of America") joined the political escalation of the "Cold War", increasing the international authority of Ukraine through its activities. The inventor continued to support his emigrant compatriots - residents of West Islip, deepened ties between cultural centers of Ukraine in America, until the last days of his life

I went there yesterday in solidarity and to support Ukrainians on the two-year anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The mansion is beautiful, as well as the history. The female security officer at the front door was extremely welcoming and pleasant, she also gave me some great tips (purchase any items I was interested in before heading to the exhibit as they sold out the year before). Of course the most important part was the open house for anniversary of the invasion, it was informative, heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I am glad I went and was able to experience the exhibit, artwork from innocent children, and Ukrainian artists, and absorb an immense amount of history as well as appreciate and understand the effect of such atrocities. My heart is with the people of Ukraine. They are strong, resilient and defiant.

Honestly a hidden gem in NYC. Not a lot of people know about this place so my friends and I were practically the only ones in this mansion. The greeter was very polite and answered all our questions. The exhibits are very well-curated, since the vintage furniture, music, and TV screenings match the unique ambiance and aesthetics of each room. I would highly recommend stopping by this place

Visited there for New York's open house weekend. The house has been restored to its original Beauty. Normally it is used as an art gallery to show off Ukrainian artist. If you get an opportunity to get into this property don't miss the chance.

Small, uncrowded exhibit of Ukrainian history, art and other culture, in an historic NYC mansion near Central Park. $6/adult, less for students and children. 1st floor: 1 room with summary of history and culture, including nice, large interactive touchscreen. Up the grand staircase to floors 2-4 for paintings and sculpture, both very modern and slightly older.

Despite awkward initial reception, the event itself was well planned and very warm atmosphere. We went to the Christmas celebration event. Very well done indeed. Building inside looks like Downton Abbey. :) Lots of character in Victorian architectural details. Probably a pain to maintain this place, because of it very generous size. Lots of salons and recreational areas.
