BHC and the Rio Galleries have commissioned the following nine New York city based artists to create the mixed-media murals: Diogenes Abreu, Virginia Ayress, Milagros Batista, Sikolo Brathwaite, Ella Perez Gabriel, Luis Leon, Zahied Tony Mohammed, Moses Ros-Suarez and Black Rose. The installations will be mounted behind the glass walls on both ground-floor sides of the museum, each illustrating its own social justice narrative arc.

A place where kids can have fun and make art but it is not really a museum for kids as whatever little art is there is fairly modern and not easy to interpret. Still the kids that came with us had a lot of fun because of all the activities and the things they could make. The staff of the museum help to make things as well Tickets for kids are free for below 8 and $4 for kids till 17. Adults it is $7. They also have books and other small artwork for sale. They also have storytelling sessions which you can find out about by just calling them. The staff were quite friendly.

This place was absolutely amazing! The staff were pleasant and inviting. Alexander our tour guide was especially wonderful with my students. He was engaging, knowledgeable and very patient. He made the experience for my students as well as for the teachers & parents an experience they'll never forget. The art on display is unique and impressive. They have art by several ethnic artists and the space is large and welcoming. I will definitely be bringing my students here year after year for a field trip. They are also open to the public and we did see a few families with toddlers there.

I wanted to love this place because it’s in our neighborhood and seems like a great resource. But at least during our first visit, it didn’t seem much like a museum for kids. There was a black and white photography exhibit with photos mounted high on the walls, and a small exhibit about an Indian jazz musician that relied on descriptive cards for explanation and there was nothing to touch or hear. Great for adults, but not sure for kids? My little is only a year old, and we ended up just sitting and playing in a room with the blocks and books, both of which we had at home. There seemed to be an art activity of some kind, but there were no other kids doing it and it was far too advanced for a 1 yo. I think this museum is a nice indoor space for a winter playdate, but I wish they had more for my daughter to do—kids her age need color and sensory information.

This museum is a hidden treasure in Harlem. The stiry telling is amazing like you're living the story. The arts and craft for all ages. Toddler room. They can paint with water with brushes on a blackboard.

I live in Queens and happily make this trip with my 5 (almost 6) year old son. This children’s museum is not a germy indoor playground, it’s an interactive modern art museum that challenges a child’s perspective. This is a great museum for children AND parents. I found that my son & I were talking about the exhibits on the ride home and well into the evening.

It was a nice experience, went with my 5 yr old as we were looking for something cheap and fun to do. We went on a weekday and there wasn't a lot of kids there which was nice. My daughter and I both liked the activities they have readily available for the kids (drawing table, wooden blocks and other things). I gave it 4 stars and not 5 as I wish the museum was bigger. We were done with everything in 1.5 hrs.

Very cute and inexpensive place to spend 1-1:30 hour with kiddos. They have 3-4 art stations, a cute scavenger hunt that kept my 8 yo engaged and a few books to read.

A very small lovely childrens museum. One floor downstairs with a lot of open space. The exhibits are wonderful. The studio with activities for the kids is well done. A lot of open space for children to feel at ease. The story time is lovely and interactive beautifully done. Definitely a place worth visiting.

This little museum is a gem! With real artworks, hands-on activities and amazing storytelling. A nice surprise, our 2.5 years old had a great time and we did too. Totally suggested.

When I got there, I felt inconvenienced by the two staff members downstairs. They asked my kids not to step on the art which actually didn't seem like art, it was chalk on the floor perhaps and didn't invite us to sit at the art table. I had to ask if we could sit and ask what activity consisted of. They turned over a sign for me to read. My daughters commenced to draw on tapped paper to a table. No instruction provided. They have two rooms of exhibits to see which again were bland, much like the staff.

Beautiful space, interesting art for both children and adults, activities (stories, hands on projects) for the former. The museum has a manageable amount of pieces of art and rooms. It's not overwhelming. Our kid didn't even want to leave, which was a first for an arts museum.

Great place for children to visit. The women reading at story book time was a bit unorthodox but still very nice and interactive. And nice art exhibits

Great experience. Very friendly and attentive staff. Bring a sweater it was a little chilly due to the air being on. But it was refreshing.

Sooooo many exhibits were closed down due to covid 😔. Only live story teller. a table for drawing, and one exhibit were open. So disappointing. The storyteller was engaging, however. Clean museum.

What Gem! Have lived in Washington heights most of my life and just discovered this museum thanks to a friend. On sat's there is Show Time, dancing/singing story telling by the wonderful Alexander Elisa. And a great craft room where children can go and create. We were a lil bummed that most of the exhibits were closed when we came and had no idea or were told when we arrived. However this won't stop us from coming back, can't wait to return.
