Contrary to the museum's website or posted hours, this building is closed for the next two years. So keep that in mind before you run around the building in the pouring rain for 15 minutes trying to get in. Because you can't, and they literally can't be bothered to put up a sign saying that they are closed for two years. BONUS: When I called to ask how to get in, the woman working there told me that while they didn't post a sign in front of the building saying they were closed, I should have known about it because it was "on the news."

An absolute gem located in upper Manhattan. Absolutely worth the effort to see the partial collection on view.

A unique institution with a beautiful surgery of art from the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world only recently reopened after a long renovation. The current small exhibit, Nuestra Casa, includes works from the 16th to 20th centuries including an El Greco. I'm excited for the museum to reopen its large spaces to see what other treasures lie within.

This free museum has some interesting art to offer, though not a lot. When I visited this place on a chilly Sunday afternoon, I spent less than an hour here before running out of things to see. There are archives which people can visit a little bit during the weekend so I may try back here another time.

One of the hidden gems of New York City with a breathtaking collection, including paintings by Velazquez, Zurbaran, Goya, El Greco, and others. The special exhibition of drawings by José Clemente Orozco was also great.

My biggest complaint is that the museum exhibit is currently very small and doesn’t utilize the full space of the building with just a handful of paintings in the main court and the Sorolla gallery on display at the moment—although the enormous wall-to-wall paintings in the Sorolla gallery are quite a sight to be seen. I was told by the staff they would be expanding in the fall with new exhibits and talks. I recommend a group tour to learn a little more about the exhibits. Admission is free, so it’s very easy to justify the visit. Despite being located very far uptown, both the 1 and C trains are within a few blocks, so it’s very easy to get to. The grounds around the museum are also quite nice. I did not get the opportunity to visit the library unfortunately. There is not much else for tourism in this area of Upper Manhattan, but there is the Hudson River trail/park just nearby for walking before or after your visit.

A hidden jewel in New York. Amazing collection of arts from Spain in a quirky, beautiful building. Off the beaten path for tourists but well worth the trip!

I can’t express enough how thrilling it was to visit the Hispanic Society of America when I was in New York in 2015. I had known about the museum for awhile and knew it was special but until I took the long subway trip up there from Midtown, I wasn’t prepared for how magnificent a gem it is in the world of museums. The art collection is stupendous and the setting is equally arresting. I had the galleries to myself at certain periods and it was such a joy to get close to masterworks by Velasquez, Goya, Antonis Mor just to name a few. The building itself reminds one of Madrid‘s royal palace on the outside and the interior’s main two level gallery highlights old world craftsmanship with its architectural elements. Huntington gave to New York a wonderful treasure that is many times overlooked by visiting tourists. I highly recommend that if you are an art and museum lover that you visit The Hispanic Society of America when it reopens. I definitely plan to go back when I’m in New York.

One of New York's magical places tucked out of the way but worth the effort. The building is evocative of another era and Pedro de Mena's "Saint Acisclus" sculpture is haunting. Unlike most other museums in NYC - it has never been crowded during my visits.

Came for the amazing collection of Joaquin Sorrolla large scale canvases. It's like a holy experience to sit in front of these masterpieces. Stayed for the antiquities and the history and the great interpretive information. Don't miss Anna Hyatt Huntington's magnificent sculptures outside in the courtyard of this beautiful historic building. My favorite museum in NYC.

It was an incredible opportunity to check this museum at the time of an anniversary of the discovery. I was glad to read the name Pinzon on the walls of such a prestigious society.

A waste of time going there. The website said it was open but when we arrived the gate was locked, and the staff member we spoke to was extremely unhelpful. We will not be going back.

Unimaginable beauty. Everything, courtyard, the building itself, neighboring buildings are very interesting. But the paintings themselves are out of this world.

Small exhibit not worth traveling all the way uptown for. I was disappointed to find just a few objects on display, one small floor, 20-30 minutes tops to see it all. I was lead to believe by the website & press articles that the museum had undergone an impressive renovation with 5000+ objects. The reality is that the 2nd floor is closed indefinitely due to lack of wheelchair access and the vast majority of the collection isn't on display, with plans to partially rotate it to the first floor every few months. Disappointing experience apart from the Joaquin Sorolla panels.

The museum (The Archer M. Huntington museum of Spanish Art) is absolutely breathtaking, can't wait for the expansion of the museum to be completed. The arts and letters museum, The Church of the Esperanza, and The Riviera Bldg. located at 157th St. and Riverside Drive, gives the entire complex and The Riviera Bldg. a must place to visit.

Saw the Nuestra Casa exhibit twice. Interesting and enjoyable. Most of the museum is closed for renovations, so right now everything can be seen in an hour or so. Recommend combining this with another local attraction, such as the American Academy of Arts and Letters next door.

Excellent museum (recently renovated and reopened) to see examples of Spanish culture through painting. Sorolla's "Visions of Spain" paintings are alone worth a visit.

This place needs to improve its accessibility. My husband is in a power wheelchair because his mobility below his neck is very limited. We went to the museum on a cold day - it was 26 degrees outside. We waited at the first accessibility lift, and I pressed the button multiple times. Waited. Nobody came. I walked into the building and asked for assistance to operate the accessibility lift. It took the staff 5 minutes to get ready and get to him. The first lift worked fine. However, there's another lift in front of the building entrance. My husband wasn't able to get over the snow to get on the lift, as the snowy path to the accessibility lift was not shoveled. We went back to the first lift and the lift wouldn't move. The staff tried to make the lift work. My husband was sitting in his wheelchair in 26 degrees for 30 minutes. People in a wheelchair don't have as good circulation as people who constantly move around. He was getting numb, that he couldn't even use his hands to control the joystick of his wheelchair. I was about to call 911, so someone can get him and his wheelchair out of that lift. The staff insisted on kept trying themselves. Thankfully the lift eventually started moving and my husband got out of it. His hands were numb for 30 minutes that he couldn't "drive" his wheelchair by himself. The staff told us this accessibility gets stuck often on rainy and snowy days. I hope they can solve this problem soon, so another person in a wheelchair won't need to be stranded on that lift in a 26 degrees weather for 30 minutes.

Unfortunately it is not yet open to the public the whole museum as it is under restoration. Nevertheless it is very worth the visit to see the wonderful room painted by Sorolla (Vision of Spain)

We took our children here this morning to participate in a group kids session and had a great time. It was set up like an informal art class, right there in the museum itself. It reminded me of my art classes in my university days, except it was geared at young kids 10 and younger. The program directors, Cristina and Marta, were really fantastic. I would recommend taking your kids here for one of these sessions if you can. The sesions are conducted in Spanish and are a great tool for the kids (and parents) to meet other families and gain education in Spanish.

Very nice museum showing art from parts of the world that other museums typically do not represent frequently. Well worth a visit and easily accessible by subway.

The building and plaza outfront are amazing. It's like being in Europe. The current art exhibit is small but enjoyable. Can't wait for the entire building to be fully utilized.
