The High Bridge Park is a unique place to walk from Manhattan to The Bronx. There is no cost and it is pretty clean and easy to navigate. There are interesting historical facts on the bridge to read. There are also a few benches to sit and watch the train or see the congested highways. You can also catch planes coming from LaGuardia Airport. I would definitely come visit this place again in the future. It can also be a bit windy or extremely sunny on certain summer days.

One of New York City's grandest bridges built as an aqueduct in 1848. Usage to deliver water to Manhattan ceased in 1949. It is now an amazing foot and bicycle bridge with fantastic views of the Harlem River and the city beyond.

The High Bridge (originally the Aqueduct Bridge) is the oldest in New York City. It was initially opened as part of the Croton Aqueduct in 1848. And it was reopened as a pedestrian walkway in 2015 after being closed for over 45 years. The steel arch bridge with a height of 140 ft (43 m) over the Harlem River, connecting the New York City boroughs of the Bronx and Manhattan, is located in the Bronx's Highbridge section near the western end of West 170th Street. The west's end is located in Highbridge Park in Manhattan, roughly parallel to the end of West 174th Street. High Bridge was initially completed in 1848 with 16 individual stone arche

I've paddled under the High Bridge many times, it reminds me of old Roman aqueducts found in Europe. With the exception of the steel replacement middle span for accommodating ships passing under it and transiting the Harlem Ship Canal, its stone arches remain intact from 1848 when it was completed (construction began in 1837). The steel span was erected in 1927.

Such a great landmark of the early years of our city. Amazing to read the history of its construction, use and transformation. Particularly beautiful on a clear day. Attached to High Bridge Park the access is best from the base of the water tower down a set of steps to a great bike path. There are no bathrooms anywhere near here so go before you go. Not much on the Bronx side so plan on a round trip.

I saw The High Bridge from my girlfriend's window and did a quick search on it. To my surprise I found out that it is NY's oldest bridge and it recently opened in 2015. So we decided to walk across this bridge because we wanted to check it out and the view. The bridge was renovated quite well; its aesthetically pleasing and there is seating available as well. The view of the Bronx and Manhattan are amazing! It's definitely worth checking out and it provides a quick way to walk from the Bronx to Washington Heights (north Manhattan) pretty quickly and vice versa.

It use to be a nice trail, the entrance of the bridge was vandalized with grafity, people throwing garbage, broken glass, high speed motorcycle almost running over anyone trying to enjoy the walk, history being ruined by a bunch of ignorants, bild in 1884 ruined in 2022

If you love the history of New York or engineering ingenuity, this is a must see location. Without the water it provided, New York City could not have become the city that it became. It would be pretty far off the beaten path for most tourists, but if you are up in the 169st area, you can check out the Armory in the middle of the island and the Little Red Lighthouse and the under belly of George Washington Bridge crossing the Hudson, which in on the western side of the island. Both are easy to walk to. The island is only about a mile wide in this area so nothing is too far away.

They did a really good job rehabilitating New York City's oldest and tallest pedestrian bridge! It is certainly not the most advertised thing in the City to get to. On both sides of the bridge, Manhattan and The Bronx you have to contend with many, many steps (some incredibly steep) to reach the bridge. It was very pleasant and peaceful high up above the Harlem River and after visiting it is definitely a favorite for me! I was pleasantly surprised that there were no motorized mopeds interrupting my time on the bridge.

Great 1836 restored high foot bridge from Bronx to Manhattan. Beautiful water tower in Manhattan side. Bronx side covered in trash and people smoking crack in their cars. Didn’t used to be as sketchy. Watch the motorized bikes zipping by as you walk over the river.

The trash upkeep is not being done. Not all facilities are open to residents, apparently some are for members only? In one of the few uptown parks larger than a postage stamp, these limitations seem really outrageous. The bathroom situation is downright HORRENDOUS. The amount of tax money we pay to have kids pooping themselves because they're aren't any clean, safe, and usable bathrooms in a public park is an absolute embarrassment and disgrace. I think overall my visit to this park has me ready to write quite a few letters to public officials, because it's unfair to the community.

As I visited the High Bridge in NYC, I was truly captivated by its blend of history and modern charm. The majestic views of the city skyline and the Harlem River below are simply breathtaking. Walking across this restored marvel, I couldn't help but appreciate the effort put into preserving its architectural beauty. It's not just a bridge; it's a journey through time. The peaceful ambiance and well-maintained park on both ends make it a great spot for a leisurely day out. Whether you're here for a dose of history, a scenic escape, or a romantic stroll, the High Bridge delivers a unique experience that's quintessentially New York.

This bridge is a great option for a morning or afternoon walk. It offers awesome views and benches to sit down and enjoy. I took a walk between 170 St (4) to 168 St (A/C/1) subway stations across the bridge and the hill with the water tower. Take your time and enjoy the views!

Did Highbridge used to be a connected to all the way the water source to the Bronx and then connected to Manhattan because I hadn't had the worst time ever in a fire history so they built this bridge and the build a sidewalk for the past to the present but it was very still go into the future that many people that lives in life but however now it is restored and it's safe now everyone going to be enjoy it to walk and relax but it would not go to be no electric scooter what are those chairs and one of those scooters with the motor and the chairs no way because that is not peaceful right there it just like rubbish because too much noise

I used to drive in the highway or freeway and could see that this place was attractive view but I never stop by standing and watch there. But finally, i was walking on the high bridge and could see many highways or freeways and a lot of trees, Harlem River, nice big sky with clouds within this area, historic bridge and two buildings.

Of all the old bridges around New York, it's hard to pick one being better than the other. But this, this bridge is close to being one of the best. You certainly won't find as many tourists here as you probably would at other spots. Come visit, it's a nice bridge.

A great place to view the notorious East River where the bodies are buried, but even more fun is the crazy traffic you avoid by walking or bicycling from the Bronx to Uptown Manhattan. And you get a birdseye view of the waterfront.

Returned for the second time bringing along my husband the history buff so he might experience the rich history of The Heights. Karen, our guide is a NYC Historian. She has an amazing amount of knowledge, describing in detail historical buildings, landmarks, places, and what occurred there. Learning about buildings that we would probably just have walked by not really understanding the historical significance. Karen is passionate about sharing the history - and answered our many questions. Just loved this walking tour from beginning to end. Thank you again Karen.

(Translated by Google) The truth is that this place is very peculiar and striking. The story behind him is surreal; the truth is that human ingenuity is not dimensioned until it is transported to that time. Something that I lacked to show was the journey that the water makes to reach its end, it is impressive, I leave you curious. The views that can be appreciated are relaxing. The only one is that sometimes motorcycles pass over the bridge which makes it dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists.
