Really hard to point out a positive thing about this hotel.... Our room had a leaking faucet in the bathroom. Not dripping, but streaming. I let the front desk employee know about that, but no one cared. The room itself looked nothing like the pictures on their website. It was just big enough to fit a bed in there. On the second day I broke the room key (but I'm really not that strong) so I asked for a new key. They didn't have one. So I left the hotel in the morning, and they said there would be a new key upon my return. But there wasn't one.... They just took the broken key and taped it back together. So of course that doesn't work! Still no key available, so I asked the employee how I would be able to get in my room now, since there was no spare key, and no master key either. The employee said: "I know a way to get in, because that's how the maids do it". He went to the room with me and opened the door using a credit card. I almost felt like a criminal getting into my own room. Then I got a new room because of everything that was wrong with the first one. This other room was pretty much the same, except the tv was hanging from the wall in a weird angle. And the faucet did not leak, so that was a small plus. But that little positive thing was negated by the fact that there was no mirror in the bathroom, and everything was covered with stains. When I got back to the hotel after a day out I saw that someone had replaced the bathroom door, without notifying me, even though there was a "do not disturb" sign on the door. The entire floor was covered in sawdust. This hotel was the cheapest option, and it showed!

People, you get what you pay for. There are no luxuries, there is no deal. It is only for sleeping and visiting the city. Excellent price according to what is needed, just sleep.

The receptionist was rude and not helpful at all. The room was dirty and old, the bed was AWFUL, very uncomfortable and the pillows were worst. The bathroom was okay but the bathroom door didn't work, my boyfriend got locked inside cause the lock didn't work and when I called the receptionist she said "oh yes, that always happens, just don't lock it anymore" that was her solution, we couldn't lock our door cause they don't want to fix it. We also saw a cockroach in the room that we didn't bother to report after that rude answer. I wouldn't go back, it's not even that cheap. The location is the only good thing.

Stinky, tiny rooms. Air conditioning didn't work. The bathroom was in the hallway and the elevator was very old. Apparently there was no reservation for a room. So we moved to another hotel (at our own expense). The staff takes a lot of getting used to. Just don't ask the wrong question there.

A nightmare of a place! Really not worth the price of a hotel. The rooms super hot (they have a joke of aircon, super noisy) and everything is old and smelly. The personnel always looks annoyed when you ask for help. We arrived after a long trip exhausted just to realise they did not book the bedroom for which we paid. After a good half an hour they gave us the 'deluxe' bedroom as the only free. The bedroom was really dark, placed on the ground floor, the lamps not working and the bathroom very dirty. One day we came back at 4.30 pm to find our bedroom had not been completely changed and we could not use the bed as there were no bed sheet. We had to look for the cleaner and pray her to finish it as she had left the bedroom in that state and just went away. The location is alright, a pity the hotel is so miserable for the poor quality it offers (and the high price they make you pay for it).

I do not recommend anything that you book at this place. From the first moment they wanted to deceive us, we had 2 rooms reserved and they only gave us one key... the receptionist said that there was no other room reserved, in the end it was solved but it looked like they were renting out the rooms to beggars that you later found in the corridors, everything very gloomy. Dirty bathroom and room with odors and very dirty too. The best of all is the location, close to the metro and 15 minutes from Central Park.

You get what you're paying. Small room, broken air conditioning, shared bathroom, and funny smell of the room itself. The receptionist are somehow not that keen to provide friendly and decent service. If you're travelling to New York on a budget and only need a place to store away your baggage without worrying about staying a long time in the hotel, this is the place

Hostel with shared bathrooms. The linens were clean and the bed mostly comfortable. Temperature is regulated by opening the window. The floor seems unstable in sections. There was no toilet paper provided the first night. Great Thai takeout and bagel shops around the corner. The doors all close on springs, meaning they slam unless stopped and it seems most people don't bother, so it's loud. There was some problem with gas leaking in the kitchen when I first arrived, but someone was working on it.

Well, yes, it is a bit tacky, but the girl at the reception is wonderful. The rooms are very very simple. But with what you pay.... the quality-price ratio is great. The bathroom is shared, but we all know that before going. And they are well taken care of (if someone is very scrupulous, they should wear flip-flops and that's it). And the location is great. The rooms were clean and our beds were made every day. The floor is carpeted, typical there. When we are not used to it we can see it dirty, but that is how it is. And if you see rats in the street, it's not your problem, it's just that's how New York is. I would definitely return if I hope to return to NY one day. :)

I've now stayed here three times and can honestly say it's better than its low rating suggests. Is it pretty to look at? Not really, it's an old budget hotel that provides basic accommodations. If you're used to valet service, a concierge, a pool, and room service, the Morningside might not be for you. But if you're on a budget or just need a clean and safe place to crash after exploring NYC, I recommend this place. The Upper West Side location is awesome, very close to the Metro and bus lines which makes it a breeze navigating to other parts of the city. I would absolutely stay again.

The best thing about this place is the location, it is somewhat basic and needs more care but the quality-price is good for a city like NY, a quiet street with many shops nearby and without a bad atmosphere, also close to Central Park, if you go alone Let's rest, I don't see it as bad, our room was clean and so were the bathrooms.

We spent 3 nights here, never saw anything in our rooms that didn't belong there (per the reviews about bugs and rodents). The neighborhood was quiet, there was a church next door, and the loudest we heard was when Sunday night service was letting out. We had a private bathroom and everything worked as it should with nice hot water for our showers. The bed wasn't a temperpedic, but exactly what SHOULD be expected when you book at the rate they charge. It was centrally located, subways 3 blocks each direction. The staff was friendly and always said hello as we walked by. We checked in late and the guy at the desk, Patrick, set the tone for the great experience we had at this hotel! We are already planning another trip back in the spring and plan on using this hotel again for that visit!

When I stayed here I loved the experience. The building is always clean and comfortable. It is safe and in a great location. The tenants and staff are really lovely. I stayed here for two months and have fond memories of the place. It’s not the Ritz but it is fantastic value for money. There was a gentleman by the name of Patrick who worked there when I stayed and he remains one of my fondest memories of New York City. One of the nicest people in the world.

Location is good, the room was super small and kind of dirty but the bed was clean and so were the shared bathrooms. I was there in August so it was really hot. There was an AC that worked but it was as loud as having a helicopter in the room. You can turn it off but you'll still hear the noise from the AC from other rooms. If you can sleep in noisy environment than it's an OK place to stay for a few nights. Pretty much what one would expect for the low price.

Worst hotel I ever stayed at for this price. I booked a room with a private bathroom, but at check-in they said they are sold out of those and gave me one with a shared bathroom instead. Poor service. The person at the front desk said he can't help me but that I am free to complain or leave. Room was dirty, run down, and in bad need of maintenance. No A/C. A small space heater bolted to the floor was so noisy that I had to turn it off. Toilets don't work well, so disposing of toilet paper in toilet is disallowed (will clog it). Overall, stay away!!

The worst place I have stayed in my entire life. They do not comply with what was agreed, they have a whole violent mechanism to make you leave and they can over rent rooms. Bad treatment and bad installation. Spend a little more and rent somewhere else if you want to have a nice vacation. I leave a photo of the posters that were left for us on the door of the room.
