Two stars based on the AC alone. Everything else is great, cleanliness, location, etc. but the AC unit in the room is on an automatic timer and it turns off if there is no motion in the room… like when you are sleeping! I would wake up in the middle of the night and the room was warm, I’d have to get up and walk across the room to trigger the motion sensor under the sink at 2am to get it going again. The other issue is the rooms are very small, but have large windows. Not normally an issue, except the AC turns off when you leave the room. Then your room basically becomes a tiny greenhouse. So the second day, I left the blackout shade closed to keep the room cool, but when housekeeping cleans they open the blackout shade…. So back to square one in your little hot box hotel room. It was impossible to keep the room cool! On the plus side, rooms facing south have a great view of the World Trade Center. Also love that you can access your streaming services on the TV. I also advise getting a south facing room away the street. Hotel is on a great street but it is a little rowdy with great bars and Webster Hall but I heard zero noise staying in a south facing room!

I loved staying at the Moxy! The room was super cute (very modern and unique aesthetic) and Maria (it might be spelled Marya, sorry if I've got it wrong!) was AMAZING and gave us an upgrade to a corner suite when we checked in! Her cheerfulness, humor, and enthusiasm started our trip off on a great note. We loved the free breakfast, the cute bar, and the great rooftop. I've traveled to NY a few times for work and I've never stayed in such a quiet hotel room--there was hardly ANY noise from the street, which made the room so relaxing and calm (plus the beds were so comfortable)! We had an amazing stay and I definitely recommend the hotel!

Super cool hotel with a great atmosphere and vibe. Rooms are clean as well as rest of hotel. Awesome coffee shop and bar on the main floor. Stayed here and location was perfect for being between Rockefeller area and ground zero/ brooklyn bridge. Both were a 10 min subway ride away. Nice area as its not right in the middle of the busiest are of the city. So many cute little cafe’s, restaurants, bars, bakery’s in walking distance.

This is the first time we stayed at the Moxy East and we LOVED it! Great location with an awesome NY vibe. We were in NY to look at colleges and we loved our Quad room which was so different from any of the hotels we have stayed in and we will definitely come back and book the QUAD room again. The decor is "outside of the box" from traditional hotels and the staff is great! Super clean and decor was functional and well though of. A big thank you to Alexa Silver for being a great host! Mac Ward and Ashley were awesome too! We are definitely booking Moxy East again! Great staff and customer service!

This hotel blew me away in terms of service. I'm an avid traveler both for personal and business trips and I have yet to encounter a staff as awesome as this one! This is a great, central location on the lower east side, with amazing restaurant options nearby. The hotel itself has a rooftop bar that is a must visit. The rooms are very well and efficiently designed, they have thought of everything! They are small but comfortable and beautiful. The beds were very comfortable and the water pressure was great! But my favorite thing about this property is the people, from Mac to his entire staff team they were so friendly, always willing to help and just the best people. I wish I could give them 100 stars!

My recent stay at Moxy East Village in NYC had its highs and lows, and it's only fair to share the honest details. Let's start with the not-so-great aspects. The room size was a bit of a letdown, especially compared to what the pictures suggested. While it might be alright for a short stay, spending 3-4 days in such cramped quarters became a tad uncomfortable. Booking a double room sounded like a good idea until we discovered that the bed was awkwardly placed right next to the window, letting in a chilly draft. Needless to say, it made for a less-than-ideal sleeping experience for my partner. Adding to the mix, the hotel charged a surprising $5 for a bottle of water left in the room. It's a minor expense, but it felt like an unnecessary and somewhat tacky move, especially when many other hotels provide complimentary water. Little details matter, and this particular charge left a cheapened impression. On a brighter note, the hotel's cafe was a redeeming factor. The coffee and yogurt were surprisingly good, offering a pleasant start to the day. The location of the hotel is undoubtedly a strong point, being conveniently close to the subway, Joe's Pizza, and Wegmans Market. If location is a top priority, Moxy East Village scores well in this regard. In summary, while the hotel has its perks, the room size, uncomfortable bed placement, and unexpected charges for basic amenities detract from the overall experience. If you're willing to overlook these aspects for a prime location, Moxy East Village might still be worth considering for a short stay. However, for an extended visit, it may be worth exploring other options in the area.

An interesting hotel in East Village that has quirks. Highlights were the shower (excellent strength and temperature) and value compared to other hotels. Cafe area is good with fun skeeball machine (which can be loud for other guests). We stayed in a double room. Room is in good condition with sizeable shower. Lack of storage space and hairdryer was poor. Cleaners did not leave water 2-3 times during a 10 night stay. Reception staff are standard. Polite but didn't go above and beyond. Did respond to email prior to booking. £30 daily charge can be redeemed at the cafe. The cafe is decent but quite expensive, so we received 2 coffees and 1-2 small pastries for £30. Overall, did the job with a couple of quirks but not much more. Happy but not ecstatic. 7/10

The East Village has become my favorite place to stay in the City. The Moxy was really fantastic! They have outstanding customer service. The staff is really good. For example our friends had an issue with the AC in their room at 11pm - it was fixed right away and the hotel notified them. I've seen some people complain about the room size and I don't get it. The rooms are not huge, but what do you expect. We had plenty of room for 2 and the shower was awesome. There is storage, places to hang clothing, and shelving above/below the TV. It's a lot of room for the money by NYC standards. Location is the other great thing - The East Village has so many great bars and food, literally everywhere you go. Subway is close. It's within walking distance to Soho, China Town, Little Italy and the Williamsburg Bridge. I've spent more money for hotels that were far less nice than The Moxy

This is a bad hotel. The bath and toilet are right in the middle of room the with a glass door that ventilates into the bed room, so much that your room will stink. The sink is just 1 inch deep, that you can not even wash your hands clean. There is no desk where you can set your computer or your wallet or your phone. No plug points to charge your phone or laptop except by the sink. No cleaning service, except by appointment. No microwave or coffee maker. No place to hang your clothes except a few pegs on the wall. For goodness sakes, there is not even a chair to sit in the room. Put your suitcase on the or under bed the bed if you even want to walk to the bath. Even the Japan—ese have done a better job of their 70 sq-ft of living. Surprised Marriott calls this a 4-star hotel.it is nightmare. All rooms are even painted black. To get to a window, you have to climb on to your wall-to-wall bed! Do not pick THIS Hotel unless you want a hostel experience! That too for a fortune! Forget sleeping. There is a night club across the Street! It you want proximity to East Village, book any of a ton of neighboring hotels but this!

We had a terrible experience at this hotel and actually chose to leave the hotel early to stay somewhere else. Here are the highlights: 1. The elevator makes a rattling noise about every 10-15 seconds and you can hear in the rooms. 2. There is one ice and water machine and it’s broken 3. The front desk were rude in general. I called them once to check in and once to get a key to my room. Both times I was told me all requests should be direct to the Marriot app and not to call them. They also refused to give me a physical key to our room. When i explained that I needed a key they finally gave me one and explained that it was going to expire after an hour if I wanted to keep using it I would need to come down every hour to have it renewed. It was all very disappointing.

So before I tell about all the good, just a few warnings: the rooms don't have things like fridges or microwaves but they will put these in your room if you ask ahead of time. Just keep in mind the rooms are small compared to what you might get for similar price in other cities (or maybe even other parts of nyc). And yes, it is quite pricey. Also the elevators are slow. Now all that aside, it is truly an awesome location for a stay in the city, and it is overall a very well run hotel. So much fun stuff between Union Sq, Washington Sq Park, and St. Mark's, all at your fingertips and short walking distance. Nice food and drink served in the hotel itself too, and the rooftop bar next door is cool. The rooms are small but have *awesome* comfy beds, showers, and a sensible layout. Even though it is a noisy neighborhood, your room will be peaceful. Overall I highly recommend!

What a fun weekend at the Moxy. I am a huge fan of the Moxy in Atlanta so I thought we would give the Moxy here in NYC a try. We didn’t get to check in early due to capacity but that was fine. We checked our luggage and hit the city. We did however check in at 3ish. On to our stay. Pros: location. Located in the east village, It’s near EVERYTHING and not far from anything in Manhattan. Roof top bar next door with $1 happy hour tacos called the READY. (Make reservations) Rooms were clean and showers had good water pressure. Elevator is very picturesque. Be ready to snap pics when you get in. Cons: rooms are small so only ideal for 1-2 people. No ice machines on floors. No microwave or fridge. All in all not very many cons. We really enjoyed our stay and the staff was very nice and welcoming. EXTRA TIP: We we’re two women traveling and felt safe going in and out. I would also feel safe staying here if I were traveling alone. Very secure.

The best for NYC value! Great use of tiny room to give privacy to both the queen bed and the twin daybed. Quiet on 4th floor. Safe area. Staff was friendly and good, especially female bartender in Alphabet Bar. Love bar/lounge. Gym and water bottle machine awesome. Beautiful, modern decor and ambience. Elevator 3D effect is cool. Nicest guests.

Had an amazing 5 night stay! Room was small but it's NYC.. it's expected! Room design makes the most of what space you have! Everyone was super friendly.. helped us with early check in and a late check out! The hotel was so quiet... literally didn't even feel like New York when we were sleeping it was so calm and relaxing! Excellent location in the LES- best food spots and close to train stations. Only cons are no mini fridge and the floor is extremely slippery so be careful lol.. also the rooftop is not actually at the hotel as advertised but it is apparently next door.. the few minor cons aside, will definitely be back! Thanks Moxy!

Watch out for the "Destination fee" they hit you with when you check in. $30 a day per room. You have to 'spend' it in their cafe or bar, use it or lose it. I'm sure it was in the fine print when I booked the room, but it's not in the quoted price and it feels a bit heavy handed. The rooms are very tight. The bed is hemmed in on 3 sides, so one sleep partner has to climb over the other to use the bathroom. Room didn't have a single chair, side table, or desk. Very few places to put your stuff.

Perfect hotel for a solo city traveler. Rooms are designed for the exploring visitor who plans to be out and about but still wants a comfortable place to lay their head down. Great amount of storage space and modern design. Hotel has a luxury feel for an economy price.

Stay away from this ghetto fabulous hotel! 3 weeks ago me and my girl friend stayed at this hotel and we left our belongings in a safe. When we got back we realized that we had over $500 cash stolen from our room, when we contacted the hotel they told us that one of the maids from room service accessed the room when they weren't supposed to and told us that they would have to pay us back through their insurance. They never contacted us back, we have been reaching out to them to get an update on the situation and they blocked our number. This hotel acts so upscale but behind closed doors they're robbing their own customers! We have already contacted a lawyer on this matter, & will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau regarding this situation.

The good: service & staff were excellent, kind, warm, and helpful. We made some special requests and they were cheerfully accommodated. The bad: Strange things were awry - our bed was missing a top sheet, the room wasn’t super clean, the shower sprayed water far outside the shower area, the bathroom light wouldn’t turn on unless all the lights in the room were on, we had two room service visits after requesting no visits to our room. It all felt a bit chaotic, probably due to understaffing. Location and staff helped a lot, but I wouldn’t stay here again considering how many places there are to choose from in the city.

We have stayed at the Moxy twice now and have absolutely loved it here each time. The service is fast and great. Everyone is so kind. The rooms are always so clean and kept up to date! We even left something in the room and checked out and they kept it for us until our next stay. Thank you to everyone at the Moxy, especially Janet and Siarra!!

Generally, I don't get this type of hotel. Who thinks anybody wants to stay in what I'd describe as dorm room meets Home Goods? What made it worse was the execution. The vinyl floors are sticky and peeling. The shower is slippery, and the water flow was inconsistent. The sink in the middle of the room is entirely unnecessary - I don't want to hang towels on pegs by the TV. The pillows were super uncomfortable. And the blackout shade didn't work - to be fair, I did not care enough to switch rooms, since I was on the top floor and the privacy shade still worked. Only thing I liked was the extra twin bed in addition to the queen. I used it as a couch. I also got housekeeping on my 2 night stay, which was unexpected, and the housekeeper was probably trained at a luxury hotel. I already dislike style over substance, and here it's like Marriott didn't even bother trying.

Had a great stay visiting the city for 1 night. Mack, at the front desk, was incredibly friendly and super helpful. Was a pleasure to be welcomed by him. Gave us great vibes for the night right off the bat. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The shower had great pressure (most importantly) and was also clean. Great location. Nice bars inside with great happy hours. Will absolutely be staying here again. Sure the rooms are small, but it's NYC people!!

Do you want to sleep? If you do, don’t stay here. My room (and heart) was vibrating until 4am due to the hotel’s club and neighboring area. This was on a Monday night. I’ve never paid so much to not sleep. I’ve lived in several mega cities and nothing compared to this disturbance. If you plan to stay out every night until 4am or later, then perhaps this is the spot for you.

Don’t waste your time with this hotel. - We stayed there for 3 nights and they said they only do housekeeping when you stay for more than 4 nights. They wouldn’t even change our towels. We then asked them to at least change our towels and they said they would but didn’t do anything. - We had a 30$ credit per room per night and we had 4 rooms and they never ever told us about it. None of us knew! One of my friends had to literally get it out of them by asking if they gave ANY kind of discount in the cafe and then the guy mentioned. That’s literally 120$ wasted every single day. We even asked for a refund for that credit as it wasn’t really our fault that nobody bothered to tell us about it but they didn’t do anything. - the hotel room is soooo small. The sink is outside the bathroom, the bed is shoved up against the wall. I mean, I know it’s NYC but I’ve stayed at better hotels with bigger rooms for cheaper prices in the same location.

So so overpriced - dead of winter was charged $426 for a room. Rooms are small with no storage, def just a stay for 1 which would be fine. It’s NY so you expect the price and stay. The main issue was it was so loud. Loudest hotel ever my room was literally SHAKING until 430 AM. I asked for ear plugs and it still didn’t help. So just be aware - good for young people who are looking to come to NY for a good time but otherwise can find nicer options for same price point.

Wonderful front desk staff! Everyone we encountered was great, helpful and friendly. Deserve Pay raises for showing up and being awesome! Ready rooftop- we went for a drink and it was crazy busy on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t as big as I imagined and definitely my 24 yr old daughters age scene. Alphabet Bar- more protein based breakfast options would have been great! Banana bread was fabulous but something other than pastry is nice. Loud on night Saturday… I sleep with earplugs when traveling and it was heavy noise from 7th floor. Not a problem just higher floor may be better? Gold Marriott membership let us check out at 2 pm which was great since our flight was at 10pm I’m 5’8” and would recommend anyone else this height or more choose the bed along wall and not window. It was a little short for me…lol. These are just observations and really we had a wonderful time. If the bar opened at noon and had a light bar menu and drinks it would have been great. I’m not sure if that’s a staffing issue? (They don’t open till 5:00 or 5:30) Thanks Moxy ! I typically stay at Renaissance when I’m in the city any this was a fun change especially staying with my daughter.

Overall the Moxy was a very good experience. You just need to know the rooms are very small and no King beds available. They make up for it by having a large and cozy space downstairs for work space, gathering space, a bar, and a small coffee shop. They also have a rooftop lounge and an additional upscale dining spot with a bar. Location in the east village is good — a few blocks from union square and St. Marks.

The rooms are spacious. However, the beds are small and there is no closet. Unfortunately, every day at 5am a garbage truck passes by the window loading for at least 20 minutes making ot impossible to sleep. There's a rooftop just by with music till the am hours. Overall, unworth recommending

Hotel front desk staff was super nice. Rooms were perfect in cleanliness and up to date. They had the best shower ever. Water pressure was amazing! The only thing I would ask differently is maybe send the email about hotel and its restaurants more than 2 days before. Rooftop & Cathedral required reservations which were all booked up by the time I was notified.

I think we just found our go-to hotel in the city. I was worried this Moxy would feel a little too posh or youthfully hip for this frugal old millennial, but it was comfortable and welcoming for all types of guests, including my skeeball-loving kid (bonus: they have skeeball). The rooms are small but functional. Ours actually felt bigger to me than much larger rooms we've stayed in. The huge window and excellent view helped give it a spacious vibe. There was nothing I didn't like: great neighborhood, cozy beds, enjoyable shower, and perfect Stumptown coffee.

Really nice place in an ideal location but what makes this hotel shine is the service. Every single person was kind and accommodating, especially Vincent, Yuri, and Maria. They were an amazing crew and they made a difficult time (college drop off) so much less stressful. I will definitely be back.

From the moment I walked into the Moxy, I felt right at home. The front desk staff were great! Always saying hi and answering my questions about local recommendations. The room is super cute and cozy. I also loved all the cool art everywhere! Big shout out to the bartender for excellent cocktails and hotel manager Mac!

This hotel just has a great vibe and is so easy for fast traveling. Traveling with a teen and they thought the room set up with bunk beds was just cool and the vibe at the alphabet cafe was perfect. Has valet parking so it was stress free and conveniently located to everything in lower Manhattan. I’ll be back!

I have never stayed here before & today they went above and beyond to make valentines special for me and my gf as I’m not with her. They decorated the room amazingly they took care of both the flower and edible arrangements i got for her and made us both cry tears of happiness! Thank you thank you so much to whoever went above and beyond in her room! I love this hotel and can’t wait to stay there some day to personally thank the whole staff!

Nice rooms, great amenities. Alphabet bar with free skeeball, Cathedrale and the Ready rooftop bar were all awesome. My only complaint would probably be the way they have the bed against the wall... The person sleeping near the window has to get up and over their partner to get out of bed.

  • 5/5 Dwayne 5 months ago on Google
Very close to our travel area. The hotel is very nice, not the typical big box or standard offering but niche, unique, has flair and personality all while standing out. The amenities were modern, room in great repair, smells nice and everything was immaculate.

Maria at the front desk is awesome! She is very friendly and her service is excellent. We had a small issue with the air conditioning in our room and she and the maintenance man (Pablo think) handled it like professionals. We were charged $50 for early check in by a different young lady the day before on 10/22. She wasn’t friendly and was actually short and impatient. I wasn’t happy at all after dealing with her, but Maria made up for it the next day during checkout. So I will be back.

What an absolutely lovely place to stay! My expectations were not all that high given the price but this hotel is a GEM. Rooms are small (like all NYC hotels) but so well designed they feel more cozy than cramped. Comfortable bed, amazing blackout shades, strong white noise fan - I slept great! Excellent service and a $30/day bar credit was included in the rate - was so fun to try a few different cocktails there. Obviously the location is incredible as well. I will definitely be back!

I attended the Moxie's rooftop for an event and I thought it was a lot of fun. Very funky atmosphere. Warm enough on a cold winter day for an event which I was impressed with. The only drawback to the location of the rooftop venue. Is it you have to walk down the flight of stairs? That's not very well lit to get to the bathroom and if you're drinking or in heels it could be dangerous. That's my only comment. Other than that it was very nice although the food was brought in from the outside so I can't comment on the food

Very Cute and great vibe. Rooms are not bad, but we had a unique design where it was long with Bunks. The twins are too small for adult couples. So know what you are getting into. The rooms lack a place to sit besides the beds, but they have a top notch lounge and library to make up for it. Pretty good, pretty different.

This place was cute, online however upon arrival the treatment from the staff was not cute at all. The entire bar was full, with two chairs open and I was with four of my great friends. Instead of giving us a table ti order bottle service and relax they asked us to stand at the bar which we did. The champagne deal is a good one but had a bad experience unfortunately and ended up going to another restaurant in the west village that could accommodate 4 people. Unlike this place which all tables were available for the entire 2 hours we stayed!

This hotel was incredible, not necessarily because of the room which was compact but clean and efficient, but because of the wonderful staff. We were stranded by our airline for additional days and they accommodated our family and kept us in the same room for our convenience. Then, my mischievous toddler threw my state ID down a slot in the bed that was impossible to get out and I thought all was lost but Michael, one of the wonderful maintenance staff at Moxy, concocted a device and retrieved my ID. TRULY my hero as we had to drive back and I needed it to rent a car. Carmen at the front desk was a gem too, and I felt safe by the use of masks when in our room. All of the staff were warm and helpful and I’d stay at the Moxy for them alone in the future. The east village location was perfect, being within blocks of manhattans best bagels at Tompkins Square and a block from h mart for groceries. The hotel even installed a mini fridge in our room upon request when we needed to store groceries for the baby. They made the best out of a stressful situation for us and I can’t recommend this hotel enough.

This hotel is so quaint, and the location was within walking distance to several great restaurants and shopping. We met Hady who was was really great and responsive when we had any questions. The staff take a lot of pride in customer service and are super friendly and helpful. I loved our room. It was modern and beautiful. I haven’t slept so peaceful in so long. The beds are comfortable. I wanted to stay in bed and just stare out at the rain all morning. There is a small cafe on the first floor and the coffee and food is fresh and delicious. An A+ experience and made our visit so awesome!

Stayed in the Moxy this weekend for a bachelorette party. Upon arrival, the front desk staff was so amazing and accommodating. They were genuine and I wish I had the name of the gentleman at the front desk. He was so sweet. The rooms were a little small, but that is to be expected in New York. The beds are comfortable and the shampoo and conditioner smells amazing! There are so many cool spaces inside the hotel to explore. The decor is awesome. The Moxy is in a great location close to everything. They held all our bags until we were ready to leave without any issue. It was a great hotel experience and we have already spoke about when we will come back. Thank you to everyone that helped us out this weekend. It is truly appreciated.

The rooms were a bit jarring the first time I entered one, but I came to appreciate it and keep going back. They're small, but extremely well laid out, so it doesn't feel cramped. Perfect for a business traveler or single person. Possibly less than ideal for a couple, mostly because you can only access the bed from one side in a standard queen room. Everything feels fresh and new, and I love the style of the place. For my dollar its the best hotel in the area, I'm sure you could find something even better with infinite budget, but if you want to spend less then $500/night and stay in the area, this seems to be as nice as it gets. The basement bar is cozy and makes decent cocktails. Rooftop bar skews younger, hipper, and more crowded, if that's your scene.

Overall great property, location and team. Had a 5 night stay. Nikki on the front desk is fantastic! She really made our stay. Amenities are pretty good overall. We were visiting to see the city, not just hang around the hotel. Rooms are small but efficient. Negative that cost a 5th star: Alphabet Bar staff is not very friendly or hospitable. They seem to have forgotten they are there for the guests, not the other way around. One of the bartenders with a dark beard and ponytail is particularly rude. We took our bar business elsewhere as a result. Lots of great establishments in the area that welcome your business. Moxy needs to really take a close look at the team in this part of their business. Didn't let it ruin our trip though. Would definitely stay here again for convenience and can still enjoy other establishments in the neighborhood that really appreciate your business!

Edit: They ended up moving us due to a cancellation. Not sure if that was because of this review, but we appreciate it. Honestly, just terrible customer service. We got put in a room that's strangely disjointed from the rest of the rooms in the hallway, and it's next to the public bathroom for a restaurant. Guess what, it's loud! And the door here sounds like it's opening every single time anyone walks by. We asked for a room change after a busy morning. "You should've called earlier" was the response we got from the front desk. Not even an apology at first. After that, they put me on hold in the middle of a sentence. They said that they would love to change our room, but can't because they're all booked up. Dude, this is a straight up lie! We went on their website and there's two exact rooms, Queen, 2 Guests, available for tonight. I'm pretty sure everything they told me--the manager's out, the hotel's booked up--was a lie. If you book here, just know you have a chance to get a terrible room, with terrible service. The city's cool though.
