This is definitely a dive bar but the crowd is friendly, and it's worth a visit if you love show tunes with sing-a-long music! This is an experience in itself. There’s a lot of talent inside the walls of Marie’s Crisis…

If you love musicals you absolutely MUST go to this bar! One of my favourite bars in NYC. Go along and listen to a bunch of happy, talented new yorkers singing along to tunes from every musical imaginable!

Wow, never coming here again. Wanted something different on a night out so came here since it is also lgbtq+. Me and my friends were treated horribly. We thought maybe because we are younger and maybe the bar tender had a bad impression of us, but all we did is come sit down and enjoy the music. Immediately he comes and orders us to get a drink. Out of the 4, one of us did. Thinking that was okay, we continue listening to the music being played. He then comes back over and says we all have to order or else we need to leave and said we have 5 minutes to decide. I then said I do not drink and I don’t appreciate being forced to partaken. He ignored me and some other lady then comes up and says it doesn’t matter and “everyone has a 2 drink MINIMUM”. What in the world? We all were heavily pressured to drink even though we did not consent to it. My friends had drank already that evening and were done. And me, I don’t drink alcohol. Even after explaining that the staff rudely kept demanding I purchase an alcoholic drink from the bar. I don’t understand who they pick and choose to be nice to or friendly to because it seems like a lot of people have great experiences at this bar. But we were treated so poorly after we thought we were stepping into a safe and fun environment. I’m so saddened and disappointed. How dare they pressure us into drinking? We left feeling humiliated. Do not come here if you don’t want to be yelled at or forced to consume alcohol… or maybe they will like you. Who knows what the standard is. Was it because we were all young girls? Because we were all POC? Not sure. But I don’t care because I will never step foot here again and I will be sure to discourage anyone and everyone to not come here.

I really enjoyed going to this place. The only down side is THERE IS NO FOOD!! I didn’t know that, and it was my first time going. So I had to go to a place across the street and eat then come back. If you’re a Broadway lover, choir singer, or just looking for a good time with drinks: this is your place. I really like that they did older Broadway tunes but also new and current things like “Hamilton” and “Six” It allowed there to be something for everyone.

Here’s the thing: this place has some rules. Everyone working at the bar lives by tips. As long as you keep buying drinks and tip the performers everything is fine. Sing along, have fun, don’t be a difficult/drunk mess and it’s all good communal fun. This place attracts some very talented people, but you don’t need to be a diva to have a good time. It can get very crowded with long lines outside at times, but it’s a very unique place, so it might be worth the wait to you. Maybe you’ll even luck out and get a place to sit. But at busy times expect to stand.

We went to Marie's for the first time a few days ago. We had no idea what we were walking into, but it was recommended to us by a lot of people. We were in line for about 45 minutes (no big deal, it's expected on a Saturday night), and when we got closer to getting in we engaged in conversation with the person at the door. They were great, very nice and made us laugh the whole time, we thought we were off to a great start. When we walked in, we got our drinks, tipped the barman, and had very little interaction with him. Again, so far so good. We were then made aware that there was a waitress walking around asking if anyone wanted any drinks, at that point we did not engage with her because we had just gotten our drinks at the bar. The piano man starts playing, the atmosphere was great, we were having a great time. He was extremely charismatic and funny. Then the waitress sings a song with the piano man, and immediately after starts walking around with the tip jar asking for tips. When she stopped at our group, while we were all tipping she made sure she said "this is for the piano man" to every single person. As to say, "tip me as well". It came off a little rude but I brushed it off. She then approached my partner, who was politely asking for change to tip because she had a big bill. Big mistake. The waitress very rudely said something along the lines of "you can't ask for change, give me that", and snatched the bill right off of her hand. Everyone else around us looked at us and we immediately felt out of place. It is sad because we were having a good time but our mood completely shifted and we quickly left right after that. The 3 stars are for the piano man and the person at the door, otherwise it would've been 1 star, or 5 if we hadn't had that interaction with the waitress. I read a lot of similar reviews. Sad, because it's a really cool place with a lot of history.

Super fun! Only in NY can you buy a $6 drink and listen to some of the best voices sing Broadway songs all night. Get there early if you want a seat.

Love it. Excellent vibe, great pianist & the loveliest people. Drinks are strong and it's cash only so be prepared in both instances ;)

Just putting this out there - Broadway/Show-tunes are not “my thing”. That being said there is something very special about this place. You can tell that everyone here really enjoys the place and is there to have a good time. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced.

Piano is cool. Like that a lot. But the bar tender (older bald guy) is crazy. Such an attitude and is aggressive. Never not going back because of him. Sucks because vibe is cool. Love live music. Hopefully Managment gives him some shrooms

I had a blast here, even though I don't know too many showtunes. At first, while I was there, the pianist played mostly songs from Chorus Line, which I haven't seen. But after maybe half an hour, he transitioned to some Disney songs which was a blast to sing along to. I looked this place up before coming and saw many reviews about rude staff, so it was quite funny to meet the bartender in question. My friend asked for a couple normal drinks but he just snapped, "No." It took a much nicer cocktail waiter telling us to "think of drinks two ingredients or less" to understand. Makes sense for a dive bar, but it isn't hard to explain that without acting like a d***. The waiters were much nicer and gave great service, even while weaving through quite the crowd. I came at about 10 pm on a Saturday and waited for maybe 20 minutes to get in. No cover, but they do want you to have a 2 drink minimum and to tip the pianist, which all makes sense.

I didn’t take any photos or video out of respect for the pianist and fellow patrons — because this place exists for you to sing your heart out and it’s hard to do that when you’re being filmed. We had the most amazing time singing showtunes and chatting with people all night. We arrived around 8:30 pm which was the perfect time to snag a seat before it filled full of folks. The bar is cash only so come prepared! And bring extra cash to tip the staff.

Was recommended this place and was really excited to visit. Sadly the bar tender was so rude to us and the whole atmosphere was very flat. Totally didn’t meet any of my expectations. We left as soon as we had our first drink (even though the rules state you must have at least 2 drinks each) - we went to The Duplex Piano Bar which was just fantastic. Would highly recommend there rather than here. Perhaps we were just unlucky.

Great spot for anyone with a deep knowledge of musicals and showtunes. The main bar is most surrounding a piano that does sing a longs. Note that the bar is full of regulars who know every single song, many of which are from lesser known musicals. I went on a Saturday night and knew about half the songs (I consider myself a big musical fan) but then went an off her night in a weeknight and knew zero songs. Overall, very safe space with good people, nice employees, and strong, cheap drinks.

This is such a delightful gay piano bar in the Village. It draws a fun, artsy crowd, the piano man was fantastic, and we loved the drinks. Just be aware it's a cash bar, and there's no ATM inside, so you'll have to come with a bunch of cash on you.

All show tunes all night. Cash only. Beer, shots and wine as far as I could tell. Singing servers. Patrons who know all the words and belt them out. A riot

My new favorite place in NYC! Cash-only bar and no food, but the talent is God-level and the vibe is perfection. All showtunes, all the time, surrounded by fellow patrons who all know every damn word to every damn show and have the chops to belt them out! A must-see!

I’m seeing comments about treatment of POC here and I have to agree. I’ve been coming here for almost 10 years and never have experienced treatment like this. I wonder if there was a change in management? We brought a large group to support the bar, working professionals in the industry and mostly POC. We were told to stop singing so loudly and to stop moving around by the bartender which I’ve never been told at this bar before, a singing musical theatre bar. The bouncer had us move to the right side for safety reasons. Then move to the left because we were still in the way. Then back to the right. Very confusing. We tip profusely in cash and venmo as we also work in the theatre and service industry. The server then referred to our group as a 21st birthday and told us we can’t just show up in our outfits and not tip. We’re all in our late 20’s/30’s, and have been doing nothing but going up to the piano and tipping, and supporting who is performing. I thought this was supposed to be a judgement free zone. Maybe there’s some rule about singing quietly here we didn’t know about, maybe we just didn’t fit in here but we definitely didn’t feel welcome.

Fun bar, stiff drinks, great staff. Everyone is super friendly. But if you video record, you will get a nasty talking to. So don't do it and just enjoy everyone singing and the excellent piano player.

What a wonderful spot. The atmosphere was incredible. We went on a Thursday evening so it was busy but we were still able to get seats. Definitely recommend making this part of any trip to NY.

    - $9 drinks - good music and really good singers - gets incredibly packed as everybody gathers around the piano - got a "divey" theatre feel to it - venue is small, so line can get quite busy even on a normal weekday Overall, this place is NYC at it's finest. Generous pours, great broadway music, strong NYC vibes, and in basement. What an experience.

An amazing place musical theatre lovers. Nothing better than singing together in a friendly, inclusive and non judgemental venue. Brandon was superb on the piano keeping everyone in time and in tune! Soon much fun

One of my favorite NYC places! All Broadway, amazing piano players, and everyone sings! Not fancy, but the BEST music off Broadway!

I came here once before pre-pandemic and loved it... When I came here a few weeks ago it was all too Hamilton and some woman from "Here We Are" who came and basically tookover. There were some other songs from other shows you'll recognize as well if you actually love musicals. We got some Les Mis and Little Shop but it always came back to Hamilton. Lots of people sitting at the bar were chatting away while others wanted to get closer to the piano and sing along. I'm not sure what other reviewers were saying about people here knowing the words, but I saw lots of people with phones out looking up lyrics. Bartender is an a-hole, so much so that I won't be back. So I had one good experience and one bad. Overall I'd say if you love musicals check this place out, then decide for yourself if you want to come back.

Amazing bar, not to be missed if you love musical theater, singing to tunes and singing along to live piano! The pianists are all so fun and the staff is also friendly and helpful. We had a great time but if you can go on a weekday night as there are long queues on the weekend!

My new favourite place to visit in New York. It's a crowded small underground bar which crams in the customers to listen to a pianist sing show tunes. Unlike the more refined piano bars in NY, it's a singalong. Drinks are cheap. I met some great people, fell in love.

A long time friend of mine introduced me to this place a while back and it's been a staple must go to whenever I find myself in the city. I love the atmosphere and how welcoming it always feels. ☺ I love the range of showtunes from one pianist to the next that plays there, but it's even better when I recognize the song and can join in on the fun even more.

One of my favorite places in NYC. It’s cash only and musicals all the time. It’s a lot of fun if you like musicals and don’t mind lots singing. It gets crowded after 8pm generally. I love going during quieter hours but it’s also a boat when more crowded and loud. Staff is super nice and incredibly talented so tip then well! They deserve the love!

Terrible and unwelcoming atmosphere, especially for POC. The staff was rude and antagonistic through the whole experience, culminating in the bouncer targeting and berating one member of our group for all of us being too loud (when there was no music playing). We would have quieted down at a simple request, he could have addressed the whole group but chose to be outright aggressive toward one person, and we were not disrupting the music (again, none was playing). I will not be returning and will be warning others against it, because the staff made it extremely clear not everyone is welcome here by whom they chose to target. Judging by other reviews, our experience was not unique and this was not a one-off night.
