The James J. Walker Park is the name sake of the Mayor of NYC form 1926 to 1932. He grew up and played here as a child when it was a burial ground and still is to this day the final resting place of close to 10,000 souls. They are buried beneath the Park and surrounding buildings. Pictured is St. John’s Cemetery cir. 1895.

Too many smokers around young children! Definitely not a great park. Needs a serious makeover to clean all of the filth. So close to the pricey brownstones but in need of repair.

I came here for a pickup soccer game. The field was decent and could fit 7v7 or 8v8 games comfortably. Two midsize goals (probably the 7x14 type). The primary complaint I have about the field is that one of the corners is literally at the concrete wall, which can be dangerous for competitive play.

A hidden gem tucked into the middle of Manhattan. Open space, open air. Nice discovery.

Clean and well maintained. Dogs are "NOT" allowed in the field and court/playground and beware of getting tickets! Dog owners are the "easy target" while drug users and smokers around the park.

The park is as ok .. but not big for the big school student and faculty to gather … . It does have a good space for baseball , volleyball or even tennis practice in one area …

I came here to try and get a glimpse of the Keith Haring mural (which is closed to the public but visible from the playground in this park). The mural was great but the park was a little scuzzy.

As far as parks go, this is perfectly competent and adequate. We play softball here for work and it serves as a good softball location. Fair warning: you may need a permit to enter though, as we have had to kick several groups off for a lack of permit. Not something we like to do, but rules are rules. Would receive 5 stars if we would win more.

I often visit with my students during work, if it's before 9 a.m., you have to find a maintenance worker to unlock the gate. People from the neighborhood come by to have their 🐕 play.

parks are necessary in NYC. and even a smaller park in the middle of the urban jungle, can feel like an oasis.

  • 4/5 Ralph M. 2 years ago on Google
Field renamed Ray Pagan Field in honor of NYC Parks legend.
