As the weather was warm last evening, I took a long stroll down to the Five Points area hoping to find myself a good time. I fancied that the companionship of a lady was what I needed. I was looking for Cameron Diaz but, alas, after much searching, she was nowhere to be seen. The thought passed through my mind of enjoying a libation at the local tavern before making the trek back homewards. But one look at the local ruffians gathered outside changed that though rather quickly & I headed home with just the memory of experiencing that notorious neighborhood, and the blessing of having passed through unscathed.

An interesting part of NYC history although the area has been sanitized and nothing original remains. If you're in the area, be sure to visit the "bloody angle" which is the section of Doyers Street in front the Chinatown US Post Office. Lots of good places to eat nearby (Joe's Shanghai, Wo Hop, X'ian famous, Tasty Handpulled Noodles).

Absolutely zero trace of the area depicted in Gangs of New York, but nevertheless a bustling, historical and fascinating spot to visit, especially en route from Tribeca to East Broadway.

Gang fights have been replaced by knots of men playing Chinese chess in the northern end of the park Over the years, the intersection has been reduced from the original 5 incoming street segments to 2. Originally, Baxter continued through the intersection, between where the US District Court and the NY County Supreme Court stand today. Worth came in from the west and ended, and Mosco continued through where the park is, and through the intersection. Thus 5 road segments and 5 "points," or corners.

Just a little area but still cool to visit. We came at night so couldn't go into the park but it was still cool to walk around. Pretty dark over there so it's just a little creepy but kinda adds to the feel of it.

I can't believe this beautiful park was once THE slums of the world rival only to London's East End. I live history and anyone like would enjoy coming here, flip on Wikipedia and absorb. I wish my sister could be here with me as she live visiting new places especially those places I've found out on my own

Yes this is the spot where the five streets originally met. Now originally there was a street which went through the park right to the corner of Moscow and mulberry if you walk up the street of Moscow halfway is a great little dumpling place. There's a woman who is notoriously not friendly and has the best little box of dumplings for $5 that you buy and walk and eat.

Everything I heard that NYC was back in the day partially still exists in the 5points/Chinatown area. Lively and bustling w people from all walks of life. Jas the same vibe as the old souks in Libya. Lots of great street art, food, rare odds n ends mixed in w the wprlds most popular souvenirs. NY printed on anything you can imagine from mugs and shirts to hand fans and toilet paper. Not for the faint of heart, those w a sensitive nose, or anxiety in crowds. If you have an adventurous spirit it's a must see.
