A real oasis to relax and switch off in the urban jungle. The Jacob Wrey Mold Fountain was originally installed in 1871 in City Hall Park in Lower Manhattan. The fountain was designed by Jacob Mold, who served as chief architect of the New York City Parks Department. The fountain features a wide, multicolored granite basin with semicircular pools on either side and a central cascade. In 1920, the fountain was dismantled and shipped to Crotona Park in the Bronx, where it remained in obscurity until 1998. At that time, plans were approved to move the fountain to its original location downtown, a move that coincided with the major renovation-opening of the renovated park. A condition assessment was conducted on the remaining granite surrounding walls of the fountain. Plans were developed for the relocation and restoration of the pool so that the finished fountain could serve as the centerpiece of the rededication of the town hall park in 2000. The existing brickwork was stripped of overpainting and the cornerstones were replaced with reproductions of the originals. Other lost bronze and granite elements were recreated from the original drawings and early photographs.

Quiet and clean. However, you may find some homeless people at night.

Small but nice park in the middle of NYC... invites you to sit on a park bench, drink coffee, breathe deeply and watch the water in the fountain. Extremely nice place!

Love this iconic fountain. It’s calming to look at, excellent place to sit and draw, paint, or sketch. Sometimes they have beautiful live music in the area nearest the fountain; classical violin or opera music.. etc :)

Beautifully restored fountain in a quiet sheltered spot away from the hordes and hawkers on the Bridge...too bad it's turned off...don't know why..
