An auditory anomaly! You MUST try this out. Speak softly into one corner of this whispering chamber, and your partner can clearly hear you across the way amidst all the surrounding madness. Find it on the way to the dining concourse just outside the oyster bar. On the arch above the chamber it says "Lexington Avenue 42nd Street Subway 4-5 6-7" I read that the famous jazz player Charles Mingus proposed to his wife this way. What a special place. Simple, fun, and free! -Hutch

Iconic and much photographed, this is a must visit as part of your New York trip. From the beautiful ceilings, ornate windows and whispering arches, there is plenty here to see. Don't forget to go downstairs to the dining concourse where there are some fantastic places to eat and drink. Whether it's the well known Oyster bar or familiar food stores, they are all reasonably priced. Go and enjoy.

Hahah I spent almost ten minutes roaming around, dragging my partner in the grand central to find it so I can show him. The facial expressions were worth it. This place is literally the dome-like space in front of the oyster restaurant. So if you enter through the ground level, go look for any sign leading you to the dining level, and find where the door of “oyster restaurant”. When you stand at one corner and whisper to the wall, people at the diagonal corner can hear it very well (i don’t know if all four corners can hear at once so if you decide to share your darkest secrets make sure there’re not other groups of people using it)

A must see part of Grand Central - if you’re a tourist that is! The beautiful ceilings also have a fascinating feature… If you and a friend stand in opposite corners, facing into the corner, and talk quietly, the sound will travel up and over the ceiling to the other person, as if by magic! You can have secret conversations, even if the room is really busy. It does get quite busy in there at peak times, so expect to wait a few minutes to “have a go”!!

Follow signs to the dining concourse. It's directly opposite the entrance to track 110. No need to keep your head to the wall. Sometimes you can hear the whispers best when you are a couple of inches from the corner. The person whispering needs to be on the opposite corner.

Visit a location where iconic pictures were made. Also good food options and a famous oyster bar. Beautiful structure and a really good place to hang out a little bit.

Went here after seeing it mentioned on Atlas Obscura and apparently was doing it wrong?! I have no idea but apparently you have to stand on opposite corners, diagonally and speak. There was someone in every corner and it just didn't work while I was there on 2/17/2022 This is near the downstairs food court and there were some scary vagrants (unmedicated?) talking to the walls and kind of being menacing. It didn't feel super safe while I was there.

Mythical station. Seen in several American films, you can take a quick trip to this station and you will surely not be disappointed.

As another person said, back into the corner and talk softly like in a movie theater. The person in the corner across from you (facing you) will hear your voice like you are right behind their head. There will be a lot less background noise doing this way.

Really cool, but give yourself time to explore. Also, an Apple store?? Seriously? Now you're just showing off Apple.

It's not just what they can tell you, it's hearing it for yourself, and feeling that someone you don't see seems to be speaking in your ear.

A hidden gem of NYC. The ability to have conversations by talking to a corner and having the sound carry over diagonally to another wall feels magical.

Being a native new Yorker, I've always wanted to go to this place...and it actually WORKS!!! You simply stand in one corner, have your partner go to the other corner that's diagonal to yours and talk into the wall, your partner can hear your words and can respond back to you! Amazing!!!

Kind of tricky to find, but we did find it. It was fine, as expected, so nothing very special, just a nice tourist location.

Beatiful train terminal and iconic for New York City just like in Magadascar movie, there is a gift shop with a lot of things to buy like souvenirs from NY, there is a good bakery in there!

Had a bit of fun taking some friends (who had never been to New York) to these whispering walls. It's definitely a must if you're visiting Grand Central!

Always an adventure when passing thru this station. There's excitement in the air when you arrive at GCT. Besides the multitude of people, sounds and sights, they often hold many exhibits including a rare multi million dollar super car show when Pagani came to town. These hypercars up close and personal were a sight to see considering that most people only get to see them in magazines, movies and are as rare as a unicorn. As the song goes, Only in my Dreams.....
