This is quite a building with lovely architecture. I’ve seen it many times in photos and documentaries on John Lennon. But it is really something to see it in real life and a lot larger than it looks on TV. It is very large and majestic, plus it is the place where John Lennon lived in the 1970s and place where he was unfortunately murdered in December 1980. Make sure to go into central park and see the Strawberry Fields forever monument to John Lennon. the entrance to this is across from the Dakota building and is very easy to find.

The Dakota Apartment building was built in the late 1800s and is located in the Upper West Side neighborhood of Manhattan. Designed in the Renaissance Revival style, the building was one of the first large developments in the area and is the oldest remaining luxury apartment building in the city. The building is designed as a large square with a central “I”-shaped courtyard, through which all apartments can be accessed. The façade includes large dormers, terracotta spandrels, niches, and balustrades. Many celebrities have called The Dakota home over the years, including John Lennon, Judy Garland, and Bono.

The Dakota is iconic because of John Lennon and all the celebrities that have lived there as well as being architecturally significant...it is sad to know someone was murdered, for no good reason, there.

Building where John Lennon lived, and also unfortunately died. Must-visit for all Beatles fans even though it's not an entirely happy place given the history. However it's nice to think of the times John lived here and imagine him walking over to Central park.

The classy, timeless home of FBI Special Agent Aloysius Xingu Leng Pendergast. I’ve always wanted to visit here after being engrossed in Preston and Child’s thrilling, 20+ book series that follows the adventures of Special Agent Pendergast, Lt. Vincent D’Agosta, Constance Greene, & Proctor. I was glad to finally see this magnificent building in person and to have a friendly chat with the doorman. He encouraged a reading of Jack Finney’s “Time and Again” to get transported back in time and get a look at what it’s like inside The Dakota. Life goal: living here!

The Dakota was a beautiful building…it was sad to know this was the last place that John Lennon was at and that he was assassinated. I went on his bday and people were singing his songs in Central Park so it was a beautiful moment. Happy I went.

The Dakota is a famous apartment building located across the street from Central Park West. This building has been home to many celebrities, most notably and famously home to John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It was just outside of this building where John Lennon was tragically killed. It’s a must visit for any Beatles fan.

The Dakota Building in New York City is an architectural masterpiece and a piece of cultural history. Its grand and distinctive design, with its Gothic and Renaissance Revival elements, immediately captures the eye. Built in the late 19th century, the Dakota is one of Manhattan's most iconic residential buildings and was the home of numerous notable residents, including John Lennon. Its historical significance is heightened by its appearances in films and literature, making it a cultural landmark. Beyond its architectural and historical appeal, the Dakota exudes a certain mystique, with an aura of exclusivity and privacy that has long fascinated New Yorkers and visitors alike. It's not just a structure; it's a symbol of timeless elegance and a living piece of New York's history.

Amazing place, I am a huge fan of The Dakota for two reason "Rosemary's Baby" by Roman Polanski and John Lennon . The architecture of this building is beyond amazing and there are many details to the building itself. I would recommend taking a picture from across the street and in the middle. Also don't be afraid to ask for more information on regards to the building.

Great looking building! If you’re coming to NYC for the first time then you’re likely going to Central Park. Then do yourself a favor and stop by this phenomenal looking building. Waking around it is always nice. Note that the mornings have less people around it, if that makes a difference to you. Super simple to step out of roughly the midpoint of Central Park and go take a look and be able to right back into the park.

Felt surreal to have stood at a National Historic Landmark marked with such a tragedy 42 years ago. Building itself is beautiful, I can tell from outside the gates that the inside grounds are well-manicured. Security guy was very friendly

went there in August 2009. forgot to take pics. the place where John Lennon and his family lived. His life was cut short suddenly at the front of the building on Dec 8, 1980. I'm a huge Beatles fan. RIP John.

The architecture of The Dakota is mindblowing but people kept saying something about beatles. I think there was some sort of assassin bug infestation but I didn't see any. Other than that headache, I had a rocking good time.

Gorgeous piece of architecture on the Upper West Side So much detail that you will not find in modern design. A spot that you do not want to miss when in the area or visiting New York City

There are two reasons why The Dakota is an integral part of New York's history. One is the well known tragic incident of John Lennon (then resident there) shot at the doorway in 1980. The other being that the building was one of the first major constructions abiding to the commissioner's plan of 1811. Amazing heritage of NYC.

Apparently they’ll let you in if you wear a yellow vest and carry a ladder. I thought I was in the clear, until once I got inside, I needed a key to enter the floor. I hate 21st century security…
