Only 40 minutes from Napier but it feels like a world away. A remote crescent of golden sand stretches over 10 km / 6 mi from Cape Kidnappers to the north and Waimarama Beach to the south. We walked for 6 km on this beach without another soul in sight. The interesting dune grass is the native silvery sand grass (Spinex sericeus). It is native but not endemic. The spiny balls are inflorescences. When the seeds mature, the inflorescence breaks off and the entire entire thing rolls along like a tumbleweed.

Nice relaxing place to send an evening with family. Can not say it is not crowded. Sea waves are not strong.

About 40min from Napier but it’s well worth it, nice sandy beach, loads of parking and the drive out there is quite scenic (and a tad windy)

Nice big sandy beach to the South of Cape Kidnappers on the East coast of the Hawkes Bay. Plenty of parking and plenty of beach access. The beach here is a much shallower gradient than the beaches along the coast near Napier and Hamouana which makes for safer and better swimming without the undertow.
