    My husband and I have been going here for over 2 years and we love the community vibe and how personal the coaches/trainers are with everyone in the class. The workout classes are well curated and they make sure to rotate so we are always working on different muscles. You can sign up for regular class workouts of 8-10 ppl or individual sessions. I really enjoy coming here because they give you enough room to push yourself at your own pace while making sure you have the right techniques and posture. You get what you put in, everyone may be at different physical level, and that's ok, you can increase/decrease the intensity of the workout as you like.

    Awesome gym ! I recently participated in the HIIT Strength class with Maya at 9a taught on Fridays. Upon arrival I was greeted by Rock, temperature taken, then directed to my assigned area for the workout. The workout was pretty intense! Using my Apple Watch I measured that I was burning about 10-15 calories a minute which is great, especially considering I was doing pretty close to the minimum amount of required reps per exercise. Rock and Maya assisted me in my form (wish they hadn’t because it increased the intensity ten fold lol) and they were always available for any other needs but focused on form to prevent injuries and target the proper muscle groups. At the end of the workout I could definitely say I was beat, it was a great mix of strength training as well as cardio as my heart rate stayed around 140bpm (captured via Apple Watch). We ended with stretches and pain. A lot of measures were taken to safe workout environment, after each session the floor and equipment are cleaned with disinfectant and participants are encouraged to wash their hands at the sink with antibacterial soap. The gym is really cool, I like the dark colors and gritty atmosphere because it sets the mood for hard work(if rocky was staging another comeback he could do it here)! If you want to get in shape or earn your weekend I think this is an awesome place to do it !

    HIIT Sweat and HIIT Strength are unlike any class I've taken. The thought behind the classes programming and motivational coaching is top notch. In my opinion, the best part isn't even the workout, it's the community and positive atmosphere under the roof. I'm excited to see where this facility will go with strong leadership and caring coaches.

    Coaches are great, the space is excellent, no complaints whatsoever. Never been super into weights/strength work but they make it fun and focus on form/form correction more than any similar classes I've taken. So glad I found this place, and super convenient location for those living near Bloomfield Ave

    I can't say enough about Char. A good friend referred me, and I'm glad he did. I've been recovering from shoulder surgery and have had a bad back for years. With just a few personal training sessions with Rock, the owner, I am already on the road to recovery and am feeling stronger every day. Never have I been to a gym that feels more like a community than this place. It's not just a place to go and sweat. It's super clean and has a great vibe. The people who go are super motivating and make you feel like you are a part of something bigger than just a gym. As for Rock he really focuses on form, and I can attest it makes a tremendous difference. I've been to a few personal trainers in the area, and while they were all good people, Rock really is the best. Most of all, he's an excellent dude. You really need to give this place a try. It's like nowhere you have ever been before. I promise you will love it.

    Char Fitness is a fantastic gym. My experience is with the group HIIT Strength classes which include two supersets of 4 strength training exercises, followed by an 8-12 minute HIIT depending on the day. The classes are set up to automatically rotate through Lower Body, Upper Body, and Full Body (includes core) so you don't need to think - just show up and put in the work. My favorite part is the welcoming atmosphere, where the instructors encourage you to find your current level and improve it over time. There's never any shame if you can't keep up for any reason, and they are willing to work around any injuries or issues. I highly recommend checking it out!

    Love this place! Clean inspiring & great coaches & trainers. The classes are dynamic. Do yourself a favor & do the 1 week trial! I used to be super into CrossFit and burned myself out with injury and burnout. I love CHAR sustainable approach to fitness in a supportive environment. The turf facility & training for student athletes is a dream! I wish I had when I was getting ready for cross training for college swimming!

    I am a huge fan of CHAR Fitness Club! The workouts will challenge you, but are completely modifiable for whatever your fitness level. The coaches are knowledgeable and aware of each client's attitude toward exercise. I personally like to be pushed, but that's not for everyone and they recognize that. Also, the steps they take to ensure a clean and safe experience is second to none. You'd be doing yourself a huge favor to come and check this place out!

    CHAR Fitness Club is an excellent gym for HIIT and strength classes and more. The coaches are motivating and knowledgeable. They take the time to help you tweak your movements and improve your workouts so that you see noticeable progress over time. The classes are challenging yet fun. You will be supported and encouraged. The coaches are welcoming and helpful to people of every fitness level and the vibe is supportive and fun. Rock and Sam have created a positive community and culture that you will want to keep coming back to.

    Char Fitness is an incredible local gym. No matter what class you take, the instructors make you feel welcome, looked after, and motivated to do your best work. In class, the instructors meet you where you are, whether that be a newbie in the gym or a veteran. They offer modifications, give you feedback on your form, and keep the energy high throughout the class. After 3 years of struggling to get myself to the gym, I have finally found a gym that I look forward to going to every single time. I leave every class feeling better than I went in. You will never regret taking a class at Char!

    Char Fitness is a great resource for the greater Montclair NJ area. A variety of classes for all fitness levels! Rock Tate-owner/trainer - and the entire team there always meet you at your level, working with you to set goals and achieve results. Empowering, Enthusiastic and Energizing! I began taking classes here at the recommendation of my former trainer, who moved away from the area, and I have never regretted trying them out. I started by joining a class to train for my very first Half Marathon in 2018, and I continue to add on different strength and mobility classes five years later! Stop by-I swear that you won't regret it. A great local business to support!

    Char Fitness Club is a great gym. I've been there for 2 years now and never had a bad experience there. The staff is great and they have all the equipment you need at a gym. It's clean and people who go there are friendly. They have good deals on memberships also.

    I am so glad I found Char Fitness! Rock and the team are excellent - they're welcoming, motivating, and the classes are full of energy. The workouts are always different and allow everyone to work at their own pace. The best part is the team's focus on form and safety - the coaches will work with you 1:1 to make sure you're safe, effective, and getting a great workout. They will also offer alternatives throughout the class to meet each individual needs. The community of members at Char is also welcoming, friendly, and diverse. Finally, the Char team has done a great job adapting to covid and making sure the space is clean and comfortable. I've left every class feeling like I worked hard and have an awesome start to the rest of the day!! I can't recommend Rock and the Char team enough! **** Editting this a year later to add that I worked out at Char for 9 months of pregnancy! The Char team was knowledgeable and supportive throughout - helping me adjust as needed and sharing guidance on how to work out most effectively.

    There’s a reason why Char Fitness gets 5 stars all across the board in their reviews. Rock, Sam and all the trainers are knowledgeable, motivating, and welcoming. I’m a weakling who dreads cardio but always felt supported in the group fitness classes. All fitness levels are truly welcome. I also love how clean the gym is: the floors get cleaned between classes and everyone wipes down their equipment after use. I would recommend this gym to anyone!

    Char Fitness Club is the best! The trainers are all so knowledgeable. They take their time to explain the movements, and help you with the correct form when needed. I have noticed a huge improvement in my form, and I am seeing a difference in my body already. It has also helped ease my anxiety. Whether you are just starting on your fitness journey, or have been on it for a while, Char Fitness Club is the place to go.

    This is an awesome gym! The training and classes are challenging and fun no matter your fitness level or whether your taking them online or in the gym. The coaches are fantastic - collaborative, motivating and they spend the time to understand your fitness goals and work with you individually to make them happen. Best of all, you feel like you're part of a community that's having fun at the same time as getting/staying in shape. If you're looking for a gym in Montclair, definitely check out Char Fitness!

    I can't speak more highly of CHAR Fitness Club. Rock and all of the trainers are well informed, friendly, and know you by name — as well as your needs and fitness level. As a lapsed runner training for a half marathon, Rock and his trainers have helped me get back into pain-free running shape. For the first time in a decade I don't have chronic pain from long-distance running and I am truly grateful. Thank you for getting me back into a sport I love!!

    Rock and the team at CHAR are the absolute best! I decided several months ago to sign up for some personal training sessions with Rock Tate. I am a runner who has been dealing with some injuries and was very nervous about being able to safely and successfully train and run the New York Marathon as I had planned. Rock listened to my concerns and honed in on my injury and needs and created a custom plan to help me reach my goals. As a result I was able to achieve my goals and truly believe I wouldn’t have made it to the starting line without his help. Highly recommend!

    Char fitness club is the BEST gym in all of New Jersey! Actually the BEST gym in the entire country! I am absolutely in LOVE with this gym! Rock and everyone (the team) who works here, are beautiful, amazing, generous, kind, GOOD people! This gym has saved my life! This gym is literally saving my life every day: mentally, spiritually and physically. I was in bad shape when I joined, but now I feel a million times better, because of Rock and team.     The CHAR community and team is unlike any other in the Montclair area. They are welcoming, funny, kind, and create amazing workouts. One of the things that I love most about the club is the sense of community - in every way possible, CHAR exemplifies and honors community in its total essence. Every instructor meets you at your level and encourages you to push your limits, because they believe in your abilities. I truly love the CHAR family and if you're looking for a 45 minute workout that makes you sweat, pushes you physically, and mentally challenges you, then this is the place for you!!

    Rock and crew are great at providing challenging workouts but modifying based on personal needs. It’s a very home grown kind of place where people know your name. Classes are small so you get the attention you need. Highly recommend especially for those who want a challenging class that gets results.

    Hands down, best choice I’ve made training at Char Fitness! Coaches are amazing and offer tons of support and encouragement on your fitness journey. The workouts are tough but rewarding and produce amazing results quickly if you commit to it! Char is definitely a great addition to the community!

    I’ve been going to Char for the past few weeks and have had a fantastic experience. A few years ago I had been frequently going to HIIT classes at different locations, but was nervous to get back into it after dealing with lower back issues for the past year. After only a few weeks going to Char, I am feeling significantly better, healthier and more like my old self. Rock has been great with coaching proper technique and offering modifications to anyone dealing with injuries. The workouts have had good variety and are both challenging and fun. I highly recommend Char for anyone looking to get into or back into a small group fitness routine. Hope to see you there!

    As a fitness instructor and dancer, I've been in countless gyms and studios in my life. After moving to Bloomfield from NYC I tried a bunch of places, and I noticed that at Char Fitness, no matter what time I went or whose class I took, it was a great workout and a good experience. But what kept me coming back--and then joining as a member--was the attitude of Rock and all the instructors. No one here is going to yell at you. You're given options to make things challenging or more simplified, and everything can be modified for whatever physical situation you walk in with. I feel safe here--mentally, physically, and emotionally. The workouts are great, and I love how I'm feeling stronger, but it's the community and leadership at Char that keep me coming back every week.
