This is one of the parks that impressed me the most in Adelaide. It's only about 12km from CBD. The most interesting feeling for me is walking around the lake, listening to the sound of running water and watching the flocks of pigeons flying in the blue sky. New and spacious children's playground with many interesting games is another amazing point. The walking paths are clean and green as well. This is an ideal place for children, youth, adults, the elderly... in general, all ages. However, we should note that the park does not allow dogs, swimming and fishing.

The park has just been updated with a new play space. It’s wonderful. There is water play, sand play, flying foxes, swings, basketball court, kids ninja course, and plenty of grassed areas. There is also lots of undercover seating areas.

Getting run down. The kiosk was open but the kiosk tables were occupied by a party eating their own food.

Thorndon park is popular with plenty of big tree shade including shade from several Morton Bay figs. Ample parking You have to be prepared to face large gatherings both family and community groups. So you may have to come early to secure your favourite spot With that comes the expected loud few. Currently i am watching a Nonna running a makeshift cafe for one group laying out the cups for coffee and the pastry treats. The brew smells good from here. Lot of family good times. Look out for the bin chickens they look the sort to pinch your food from your plate. The kids are playing hide and seek. Is it wrong to take a nap? PS There is a canteen run by volunteers from a local service group

The playground is amazing of course but also I love how it's next to a decent cafe/restaurant that the parents have access to great hot food and coffee. Plenty of car parking. Although it's always busy, the park is well designed that it never feels crowded.

Thorndon Park has a wide variety of activities and seating areas perfect for every age group. There's a number of play areas, green grass, a canteen, a gym, and gorgeous views onto a stunning lake which is a big feature for the massive park. The public toilets are good but not great. The local is nice and has a tasty restaurant near by. The canteens prices are fair, and this parks open every day from what I know. Pretty photo opportunities. LOVE Thornton Park. I come here quite a bit in a year and it never fails to disappoint. Only downer is that the car park could be better.

First time here and it has great walking paths, picnic areas, bbqs and toilets. Only saw one lot of toilets but couldn't find any disabled ones. Keen to go back and explore the rest of the park.

Beautiful large park to bring your family or just spend the day relaxing. Plenty of tables and benches spread out, along with bbq facilities and toilets. In nice weather it’s always busy, however there’s so much room it never feels crowded. Fenced off from the main road with some lovely cafes nearby as well.

It’s a great park for everyone, got kids play (plenty of options -including water play) gym , walking trails. If you like native birds you must visit and get your camera; won’t be disappointed. Plenty of options for BBQ 🍗

Really big improvements to the playground! Plenty of different things to do. If your kids like water play, make sure you bring a change of clothes and towels because there are plenty of "light" water activities including a misting machine, fountains to play with and dams to create. Also has a well stocked outdoor gym and plenty of shade and BBQ facilities.

We had visited this place on the weekday that is on Monday. It is a great place to be with your family as it has a good playing area with nature walking or jogging. Just that we went out in the evening part as in the summer’s the temperature was more than 38-39 degrees celsius. But, there were a lot of people who used the vacant ground for sitting or some were playing football and the kids were having a ball on the fun rides which are there in the park. For me, it was enjoyable and a great way to spend and evening with everyone. You may also find a basketball court and table tennis board out here. However, don’t forget to bring your ball for playing basketball or table tennis bat and ball😄. Here, are a few pictures that i clicked the way so that it might be valuable for you to come to this place.

This is one of the best kept secrets in Adelaide. The best playground, the best wide open family picnic areas with facilities, the best nature and scenery. Just fantastic.

My first trip since the playground upgrade and I was very disappointed with the upgrade. It's very pretty but the old playground had more actual play equipment. The new fancy enclosed metal bird slide looked like a kid could get stuck half way down and freak out. It was boarded up and closed off anyway. The only other slide is a small metal one that would burn your bottom on a warm day. My kid quickly got bored. The beautiful grounds remain the best drawcard with lots of ducks to look at and I good 1km walk around the lake.

What an incredible upgrade to the Thorndon Park Playground. Looks amazing with the bird structures and the lake backdrop. So many different activities for all different age levels. Large grass areas for picnics and ball games. Big carpark. Even on Public Holiday it didn't seem that busy because there is so much space.

A lovely park to go and relax. There is a great playground here that is fully inclusive. They have communication boards there to help children that may have communication difficulties.

Very windy, cool day but lovely picnic areas. Kids enjoyed the numerous play areas, chess board and exercise equipment. We were disturbed by an older man who thought it was ok to use a metal detector, in our area, while we were having our function. Apart from that, great place for young and old.....just very windy.

Amazing evening...we went for a open air movie night ...huge play area.. washroom(not so well maintained but ok). There is a cafe just opposite to this park. Many party tables. You can hang around whole day with kids. For photographers, sunset is beautiful near the reservoir.

Always lovely here. Especially of late while we've had some sun. A great spot to hang out, go for a walk, have a picnic or BBQ. Great for kids too, play equipment is excellent and the kiosk is open on the weekend. You can buy duck food and feed the ducks! 😊

Thorndon Park is an amazing place and I definitely recommend for families. There is a great playground and lots of spaces for a BBQ. There is also a basketball court, gym facilities, and a table tennis net. There is a big grass area in which you can sit down under the trees and relax. There is also a little lake when you go down and there are ducks there. There is also a walking trail and lots of native birds for photography. The ducks are near the lake and love being clicked for photos. There is also an area for children to have some water fun next to the playground.

Very relaxing place to visit. For regular morning walks or walks around the day you'll find it relaxing. Plenty of birds around which will keep your stay Audible throughout. In addition, there are places you can book for small events like birthday party or community events. Parking space is good and organised which makes it easy to get in and out of parking area.

Such a great park to walk around. The ducks are so cute although we saw a duckling that looked very ill :( The gym equipment was awesome and in good condition. The nature walk was relaxing.

This is a very well placed and maintained reserve, great place to walk around or to play with the kids. Has really good BBQ facilities and toilets. So when it’s a nice sunny day, make sure to head out with the family and enjoy!

Nice park with fun waterways, this place in summer is really crowded on sunny weekends. At the moment - June 2022 - what was the playground area is closed (until November 2022). That part is just a fenced off construction site. You can still walk here but a big part of the park is fenced off.

It's a good place for a walk, workout, sports, holding events and just gazing upon the scenary. It has a kids playing park, soccer field and light house looking over a pool.

A beautiful park to walk and get some exercise or gather with family and friends. There's toilets, playground and lots of beautiful areas to enjoy

  • 5/5 Margie C. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent park for gatherings. Huge playground areas for children. Ducks on the pond to feed consequently NO DOGS allowed. The pavilion offers 3 areas for under cover but keep in mind, these areas cannot be booked or RESERVED, it's a 'first in, best dressed' policy. A kiosk is there but wasn't open during the Sunday morning we were there. Highly recommend this park for your next outdoor gathering. Just leave Fido at home.

Great spot to hang out and play on the playground! Lots of playing equipment and a canteen! Food was great! There were two problems though. The first problem was that the toilets had no toilet paper or soap. They could be cleaned better as well. The second problem was that there was a spot when we were walking around the lake one part of the path was closed. We had to walk around that part that was closed. The prices at the canteen were reasonable. But overall a great playground. Overall I enjoyed the time there a lot! Great spot!!
