Poovar Island Resort is a beautiful space located on the Kerala backwaters where you can kick back and relax. Courteous staff, spacious and luxurious rooms, delicious food, and a fantastic location can make for an amazing stay. Access to the resort is by boat operated by the resort themselves. Once there you are greeted with friendly and helpful staff who guide you to your rooms. The resort itself is extremely spacious, well laid out, and has fun activities for the kids (albeit at extra cost). When we got there, it was overcast with chances of rain. But being intent on making the most of our stay we decided to head to the beach. That's when the staff advised us that though we could go to the beach, we wouldn't be able to access the water. As it turns out the "Golden beach" that is so well advertised on their website faces very rough seas and hence getting into the water is a strict "No"!! Our only thought at that time was: "Who advertises a beach where water is inaccessible?!" That was extremely disappointing, and we felt almost let down. Next, we discovered that the jacuzzi and hot water in our room were non-functional. The hotel maintenance staff spent about 30 minutes trying to get it to work and finally they decided to move us to a different room. By then we had already lost a lot of time. The hotel management tried their best to make up for our experience by arranging specially made tea, and special dishes at dinner. And to make it worse, I fell ill that night! Again, the staff marshalled all they could to try and make us as comfortable as possible. They provided medicines they had available and offered to take me to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Long story short — it was a bad stay. But I wouldn't blame the resort for all of it. We had come with expectations of being able to enjoy the beach which wasn't to be, and then experienced maintenance issues, as well as a medical emergency. The staff supported us through out as best as they could. But in the end, we had spent a whole lot of money for an underwhelming experience. Would I go there again? Not if I wanted to go to the beach. But if I was just looking to kick back and spend some relaxed time, and could afford it, then maybe yes.

Very beautiful resort and they have retained the natural beauty with good maintenance. However the deluxe floating cottages are a complete disappointment. Very dirty and smelly water, very congested rooms. Our room started leaking at midnight. The hotel arranged for another room so no complaints about hospitality and management. The deluxe land cottage was fantastic. Very spacious and good location. 5 stars for the staff, food and location but 1 star for floating cottage

Location is wonderful however the resort is not well maintained. The decor, the furniture is outdated. There were lots of mosquitoes, insects, lizards in the room. On complaining, they will just send a person for pest control. Service was Okayish. Had to remind multiple times for the same ask. The jacuzzi was broken from many sides and the water was leaking from it. Food was good. Overall, not worth the cost.

We had booked a villa which needs to be maintained. Needs more buggies for senior citizens,as the property is huge. Otherwise location very beautiful. Food is also good and special mention of miss parvathy, in the dinning section.very polite and very efficient.

We booked 2 deluxe floating cottages with Map plan. It was an amazing experience. It was bit costly so we were reluctant at first. But I really wanted to have floating cottages staying experience. And it was a great pay off. Map plan included dinner and breakfast. Dinner was like buffet in a 5 star restaurant. There were lots of options and it was tasty. Overall area of resort is beautiful. They welcome with small gift and tika. There was area for activities. Adventures activities are paid ones. They provide free trip to golden sand beach which you can see from your cottage rooms. We also got to visit Poovar island boating with low rates with the help of resort people.

We stayed for a couple of days. Completely relaxed environment - the atmosphere was naturally well connected with landscape grooves, river bed and sea shore (all in one place). Will never forget the swings facing river/sea front which was enchanting. Wide spread multicuisine national and international buffet and tasted nice. All the staffs were humble, greeted with a smile and showed good attitude right from pick up at boat station/vehicle parking, reception, F&B, house keeping, security and boat man guided to places as we asked for. Spl. thanks and wishes to Mr. Rex, Alfred and team.

This location boasts a pleasant atmosphere and offers stunning vistas that are sure to captivate. However, the overall hospitality leaves much to be desired. It's regrettable that the food quality falls short of expectations, and the drinking water supplied appears to have an excessive chlorine taste. This destination can be an ideal choice for couples and families, as long as dining on-site is avoided. It's worth noting that it might not be the best fit for corporate outings.
