Had a nice day with my girlfriend and got to see some cool animals. Many of the animals were off exhibit however, and the extra things around the zoo such as the concession stands, carousels etc. were not operating. Had fun but did not meet full expectations.

we love the zoo!!! there’s always enough entertainment between all of the exciting exhibits and events at the zoo that we are happy to come back! the zoo is an important educational institution for the city and it’s critical that the public , especially children , are still afforded the opportunity to go to places like this! it’s hard not to spend the rest of your day once you’re there!! Love love love the zoo !

This zoo was a lot bigger than I expected. For like $18 you get a good size zoo that you can walk around for a few hours or more. Plenty of animals were out. I took off a star because that parking is horrendous. It took us awhile to find a parking spot and it wasn’t even close to the entrance. I still recommend coming here though.

I have been to the Buffalo Zoo before but have never experienced it quite like today. All of the animals were up and active like I've never seen before. I wasn't expecting that due to the weather being hot and humid today. It wasn't crowded (limited number of tickets available for purchase each day). Masks are currently required in all indoor spaces and they are made available at each entrance requiring them. What a great day!

The Festival of Lanterns exhibit from June to August 21, 2022. There are plenty of things to keep the kiddos busy, from light up swings, jumping pads, train rides, laser tent, carousel, bubbles etc. Keep in mind the animals are in for the night and the buildings are closed, however the big horn sheep, polar bears and sea otters where out. The dining facilities are open and ice cream was available throughout the park. They feature a live band Thursday nights. A good portion of the interactive exhibits are infront of the dining facilities and close to where the band performs. If your child has autism, I highly suggest you avoid that area until 8:30pm, sensory overload, only on Thursdays. There are quiet spots throughout the zoo so it shouldn't be a problem. Hand sanitizing stations and sinks are placed throughout the area. The luminated characters seem to correspond to the exhibit. The lit up birds are near the aviary, the lit up rhino's are near the rhino's and so on. There's fictional characters as well. We stayed the full 4 hours it was open, it was a pleasurable experience to see the transition from day to night.

The grandparent seasons pass is just wonderful. There is nothing better than spending time with your grandkids at the zoo. We actually have a season pass to explore and more, the science museum, and the zoo. Zoo. Often we will spend the morning at Explore and More or the Science Museum and then visit the Buffalo Zoo in the afternoon. Great times and you can make it as educational as you want. Season Passes are great deals for folks who can take advantage of these great resources regularly. With seasons passes there are no pressure to stay for long times. You can come and go as you please.

**If my review is helpful, please click on the "LIKE" button...thank you!** Small zoo in Buffalo, good for a half-day visit. I'm always torn about seeing animals in captivity, but it was a good opportunity to speak to the kids about preservation. The zoo has the usual slightly over priced restaurant and gift store. 😏 Also has periodic shows throughout the day, so check the website for times before you visit. We went on a Sunday, and parking was plentiful, and we only waited a couple of minutes to get in. Overall, a pleasant experience...

I usually love this zoo, we went here for the Halloween light show party last year and it WAS AMAZING. This was at night though and you didn’t get to see animals so it explains why I had nothing bad to say. We just went to the zoo this past weekend and I was soooo DISAPPOINTED. We didn’t see many animals and the maintenance is really bad at the zoo, to the point where we couldn’t see into one exhibit because the grass was so overgrown. For the price we pay for the tickets the zoo needs to do better.

"After visiting the zoo in Buffalo with my toddler son, I must say it exceeded all expectations! The variety of animals kept my little one engaged and excited throughout our visit. The layout was stroller-friendly, making it easy to navigate with a young child. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the overall experience. I highly recommend this zoo for families with young children; it's a fantastic way to spend a day together!

We visited in July while on vacation. It is a small zoo but nice and well maintained. We got there right after it opened and the grounds were all very clean. It cost us $5 to park in the zoo lot. You get a token which you will use to get out of the lot. Very happy to see that they offered recycling along side almost every trash can by partnering with Coca-Cola. Kudos to both as this was a pleasant surprise for us being a big recycling household. Even though it was not a huge zoo we were still there for 2.5 hours. We let our 3 year old lead the way and just enjoyed the sites. They had giraffes, rhinos and a polar bear among many other animals. They also had dinosaurs set up all over the property. Most were animated with noise, they even had one that spit water (kids favorite on a very hot day)! Not a place you will spend all day at but a nice way to spend a couple of hours for some family fun.

As an older, downtown zoo this is nice. The animals appear in variety and good care. Exhibits were not crowded and indoor masking was honored with masks provided if necessary. Perhaps I missed it but would have liked a price that included kids admission with unlimited train and carousel rides so that we didn’t have to negotiate regularly. More experiential exhibits like the baby goat petting and feeding would also be appreciated.

We love this place! Well kept park and enclosures. This past visit, they were setting up for the zoomagination lantern festival and the temporary additions are gorgeous! Definitely coming back for that event! Great staff and my kiddos ALWAYS have fun. Only "complaint" is that the underwater viewing area for the sea lions has been closed the last 4 times we visited.

So much fun at the Zoo Imagination experience. On Saturdays the cost is $19.95 for adults. Lots of interactive art displays, incredible colors, as well as education to go with the art. There is a beer tent, snacks and gifts. Most animals are not out but we did see a sleeping polar bear, eagles and a mountain goat.....

It was a very enjoyable afternoon. I've been to many other zoos before, but this was my first visit to the Buffalo zoo. This one is a diamond in the rough. There's a lot to see and experience, but they definitely need to upgrade the facility and freshen the presentations.

The zoo has really improved since the last time I visited a few years ago. The display art of flowers, insects, etc is really beautiful, I would love to see it at night. The indoor exhibits were great, the bird show was nice and there are lots of activities for children. And they do give a military discount.

This 3rd oldest zoo is small, but full of animals too are and learn about. Don't forget to enjoy keeper talks and the Avian Odyssey! I'd love to see the zoo get more space but I don't think that will happen. You can bring your own snacks too!

Great visit. Animals were active and up-close. Saw many unique animals such as Sand Cat, Canadian Lynx, and many others. See pictures. My aunt who lives in the area, first visit in over 10 years was impressed how much the zoo has grown.

Very nice zoo! We traveled here from Texas and really enjoyed the different animals than what we have in our zoo! Seeing a Polar bear was super cool! Several animals we have seen before, but the exhibits are easy to get through and we're very clean.

Ironically, the best part of this zoo is not the animals. It is the heavily instagrammable sculptures and flower tunnel that make your social experience heavily improved. The animals are very playful and entertaining although some habitats could be larger. There is a goat petting zoo that is fun and cuddly to say the least. It also is the perfect size to explore in just a few hours.

It's a nice zoo with a long history. Traces of that history can still be seen in many of the exhibits and in the layout. Be aware that some animals are in very small enclosures for their size and some are under/over stimulated. There is talk in the future of attempting to give them more space.

This is a nice little zoo! Many animals to be seen with the most unique being the two polar bears! Easy to get around and see everything in about 2-3 hours. Most animals were outside. Some animals were exhibited inside. The rainforest exhibit was perhaps the best of the indoor exhibits. With all the good things the zoo has going for it, it does need some updating. The zoo's elephant house, houses a rhino? Some of the spaces provided for the animals should also be much larger. The zoo is right near Delaware park, I think it should be expanded a little so the animals could have more room. Some of the zoo's buildings were built in the 30's and could be renovated to boost their appearance. Parking was easy and fairly reasonable. Gift shop was well stocked. Staff was helpful and friendly.

I went on a weekday and it wasn't crowded at all. In fact, there wasn't even a line going in. The animals all had unique personalities and were so fun to look/interact with. I wish the otters had been out. I went back a few times but they must have been inside or hiding. To be fair, it was blistering outside. I was amused that the polar bears were the most active outside in the scorching sunlight. The zookeepers were all very helpful. We especially enjoyed the gem/fossil station. It was definitely a family favorite.

I'm editing my review from 4 stars to 5. What's the difference? Well I'm now a mom to a 5 year old and really appreciate the size of this zoo and the exhibits they bring in annually. Great size for small kids (takes 3 hours max), love the animals (polar bear, giraffe, big cats!), and just an easy day. Easy to find, easy to park, just effortless compared to larger places like the Toronto Zoo. The kids who work throughout were knowledgeable and great too. What a fun day.

We arrived in chilly autumn afternoon. We did not have to wait as it was the off season and the park was not fully of many people. Even so we got to see plenty of animals that were spectacular to see. The enclosures seemed clean and the animals appeared happy. The lions even put on a show for us roaring and playing with each other. I highly recommend going when you get the chance

Beautiful zoo! It had several backdrops throughout the zoo for beautiful pictures. While it isn't the biggest, it was just right to explore in a couple of hours. It made for a great road trip from Niagra Falls.

The zoo layout could have been better set up The acclamation however were really active which was nice to see. The for pattern traffic though was set up really bad there were lines to just see animals and to get in to about 1hr waiting in traffic. If they are gonna be open they are gonna have to step up their game and figure something out

Good safety protocols in place. We all had a great time. Sea lions and river otters were the favorites. Some of the exhibits were closed, but that's understandable considering the situation we're in.

It's a zoo. Sure it's a fun day to look at animals, but again, they're animals just trapped in cages. Not necessarily bad, but not good either. The staff there is nice, it's a relatively clean place. When I ordered my food, I didn't get what I asked, so that kinda sucked.

This zoo is alright. We came on Christmas Eve, and it was basically a ghost zoo. Some animals like the rhino and elephants were not out because it was too cold. The polar bear was definitely not doing so well.... Waking around in circles and swinging its head... Signs of mental issues and boredom. Same goes with the tigers. The reptiles and amphibians were the coolest part.

Very small zoo that makes fairly good use of its space, although there are some central open portions that could have been used to increase some exhibit sizes. Scenery was lacking in comparison to other larger zoos, but for the size and younger target audience, the zoo is acceptable.

Wow. I was blown away. I haven't been in 20 years and it was fantastic. The habitats are great and you can get so close to the animals. Look at the pic of the Polar bear. There is literally two inches of glass between us!

We've loved the zoo since well before our son was born, and he spent lots of time there as a child. We've seen the transition from a (basically) Victorian zoo to a more modern one that is so much better for the animals. While I miss some of the access that we used to get, some of the new changes and updates are fabulous. We just went for the Zoomagination event, and it was well run and very enjoyable.

A nice Zoo with a good selection of animals. They also have a few rides but they were pretty expensive $3 per ride. We had some at wild burgers. The chicken tenders were good with fries. Also a good size beer selection. Parking was $7 for the 3 hours we were there. The habits were pretty close together so cut down on the walking. We were able to see everything in about 2 hours. I would recommend 2-3 hours for a visit to see everything. Entrance prices were reasonable for what they have. Definitely would recommend but not a world class zoo.

Small older zoo but still unique and interesting. Went on a Sun in Jan and still was able to see most of not all the animals. The big cat area was cool to be able to see them up close from inside, but the rainforest area was the best. Very warm despite the outside temp. Good place too walk around for a couple of hours.

The decor is beautiful but the animals are half missing...My favorite part was the paradise room(I call it) with the waterfall & bridge to walk thru. It was beautiful. The animals could of been hiding but I didn't see much...Still a nice scenery to walk thru just not worth the price too much

Visited on a Saturday morning. Parking was simple. The zoo is well laid out. We especially enjoyed the polar bear and the lions. 2 lionesses and 4 cubs were out for a while. Then 2 males came out and They were roaring back-and-forth with the females and cubs. Of course they also have some bisons.

Love our zoo! Small enough to see everything in a day but big enough to keep the kids wanting to come back! We've been members for the past 10 years, bringing the kids as infants just to get out and walking. Great place with great staff 🙂

I really like this zoo. It's got a great variety of exotic animals, the kids love it. The zoo is rather small so it's easy to walk and feel like you saw everything. Some paths and directions were closed off, so it was a tad more walking than usual. The zoo keepers normally have info sessions but these and some exhibits are closed now due to COVID-19. The animals look well cared for. The staff enjoy their jobs. It's very educational and informative for children (and even adults). I hope the zoo stays for many years to come.

Decided to make it a stop before heading to Niagara Falls. It is a small zoo but it is well kept and clean. You can walk it in about 1 to 1.5 hrs if you don't spend much time at each exhibit. Some exhibits were closed for remodeling, so we missed some animals. They had a train and carousel for kids to use (extra charge) and they started their Halloween decor and activities. Not a bad experience and kind of cute to just stop by and stroll or make it a quick stop while in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Zoo is full of many exciting encounters. There are plenty of personalities and faces to see, from lion cubs to polar bears to gorillas. On a sunny day in August you’ll thrill yourself going from space to space wondering whose gaze will return your eager appeal. Judging by the busy packs of kids and parents searching out that memorable and lasting connection with animals you normally see on screens, we weren’t the only ones ready for the rich moments possible at one of the biggest and cleanest zoos we’ve ever visited. Like anywhere else these days, there are indoor mask rules that aren’t really enforced or followed - the zoo here isn’t alone in perhaps being short-staffed, or non-committed, to the policies pointed out on signs by the entrance. The big animals are bringing bodies to the ticket window, and the giraffes were on the verge of making some memorable moments to reward such curiosity, but it’s the many smaller animals we saw whose eyes helped give the visit a soulful and winsome tone.

Really gone downhill over the years, not much to look at, not to mention it doesn't look like they have much of a cleaning staff. They got rid of the elephants for another rhino. If you're going with kids, I'm sure they'll have a good time. Of course it's still a good time with the variety of animals

We attended 716 day & the tickets were $7.16 so not bad for a small zoo. However it was the hottest day of the week lol. But the kids and I enjoyed. I will advise you to pack a cooler with beverages and food because the prices are very high. And food not that good.

$46 for my fiancé, her little sister and I just to find out thirty percent of the animals in the zoo aren’t even out. The animals that were available for spectating were very captivating however the price of admission for what was shown was a little disturbing. You’d think that if a large portion of the animals were unavailable they’d drop the cost of admission a little bit. I can’t tell if the zoo has gotten better or worse over the years but I wish it the best of luck because it will be several years at the very least before my return.

A wonderful small zoo tucked into an Olmsted Park. They have polar bears and rhinos which were the highlights. If you have a membership you get discounts to other zoos. The lions had recently had a baby who the staff were great about educating our daughter all about. They do fun shows where different birds participate and it is really fun. It costs to park in the parking lot but there seemed to be plenty of parking along the street at no charge.

Overall it was great day. Fun, day trip with the kids. We had beautiful weather the day we went during the late fall. All the animals were out except for the giraffes, which were put away, but still got to see them inside their house. The rainforest was a beautiful attraction even with some parts being under construction it didn’t take away from the beauty. You still got to see some of the animals they still had in the exhibit. The children’s park and some of the attractions were closed till spring. The rides were up and running on the weekends and were $3.00 each. If you forgot to pack a lunch, they have a small food court next to the children’s park where you can stop to get something to eat and drink that except cash and cards. They also have a gift shop at the exit of the zoo with a lot of nice souvenirs that make great gifts for the animal lovers in your life.

First time at this zoo and I will most definitely be returning again. It had a nice variety of animals, including tigers, lions, giraffes, a polar bear, meerkats, and rhinos. Zoos I have visited before usually don’t have an employee there educating you on some facts about their animals. So it was a nice surprise when there would be a zookeeper there talking about the animals and some even had carts with casts of the animals’ skulls and fur so you could touch and feel them. We went on a Saturday and while it took a bit to buy the tickets (so would recommend to buy them ahead of time) the rest of our visit wasn’t too crowded. We were able to get a good view on all the animals. Would also like to add that the bathrooms were clean. There seemed to be one in every corner so that was awesome with my 4 yo. Love how there were family restrooms as well. Got a black bean, mushroom and Swiss veggie burger from the food court. 10/10. Overall great experience.

I've been a few times and it's always an enjoyable experience. Most recently saw the lantern event which was really amazing.

Parking was super easy and near the entrance You can buy tickets at the gate. The lights were awesome, the later and darker it became the better and brighter. No animals on display, but the lights are great to walk through.

I took my son to the zoo for the first time, and he really enjoyed it. He's only 11mo but he had a good time. We plan to return for the zoo lights show they have it looks really cool in the day too. A lot of the animals they used to have aren't there anymore but it's probably for the best the elephants were depressing. My favorite is the otters they are always playing.

We visited for the Paper lantern display. Beautiful and interactive displays. We wandered for about an hour or two. There was a live performance and the beer garden was open. They do not have any animals out at night, so it’s a very different experience.

The Buffalo Zoo, a great effort to preserve species is right there in the middle of the city. Supported by several non-profit organizations, it is committed to care and bring to the public a variety of animals. Well maintained place, although needs a bit of improvement. The space has a very attractive decorations on several of its ways and gardens with creative colored thematic wired-made structures covered with sort of plastic mesh, creating an extraordinary environment for visitors to enjoy. The several pavilions contain live animals. Among them are a lion, a tiger, several snakes, even a ibis bird - a deity in ancient Egypt-. The have scheduled several creative animal-related shows. This place will be a delight for the whole family, specially for children. When I’m Buffalo, please stop by visiting the zoo. It is worth it. (Please like if useful).

This zoo is unlike many of the zoos I have been to as it has paths all over the place. They have plenty of maps around the zoo but I am used to zoos having sort of a loop where he we zigged and zagged a lot. The one BIG negative is that I did not see a single refillable water station in the zoo. We bring reusable cups and had no place to refill but trying to use their old water fountains. I was shocked that there wasn't at least 1 or 2 easily usable water refill areas especially since Covid, it seems everywhere went to having at least one. Plus it seems better for the environment than selling plastic water bottles. The animals seem close but the cages do seem a little small for a few animals. The sea lions and otters are near the front and both made my kids excited. Both of these enclosures are large and exciting for kids. They don't have a playground and I guess they haven't for 3 years. My kids were disappointed but the huge swings were great for the kids. They loved some of the setup for their evening light or zoomagination show. Helpful tip: street parking nearby is free so no reason to park in the lot.

Love the zoo in general it's a nice way to spend a day. If you have kids, they have a huge play area to help wear them out, lol. It's kept pretty clean, and staff encountered was very friendly and knowledgeable.

This is a great zoo. It's not the biggest around, or with the most species of animals. However, it's clean, the exhibits are well done, and the animals were all out, and seemed very happy. We will definitely come back next time we're in the Buffalo area.

The Buffalo Zoo is a fun and educational place to see a variety of animals and plants. I loved seeing the majestic lions, tigers, and snow leopards; the intelligent chimpanzees and red pandas; the exotic komodo dragon, sea turtles, and zebras; and the adorable goats and cows. The zoo also has a reptile house with snakes and frogs, a bird house with eagles and other birds, and an Arctic Edge exhibit with polar bears and mountain deer. The zoo also offers a carousel ride and a kids tattoo art station for extra entertainment. The Buffalo Zoo is a must-see attraction in Buffalo, NY.
