I go to the Best Self in Orchard Park as I live in the Southtowns. My therapist there is excellent. However, I'm leaving a one star review to the Delaware location as that is where my friend attends. One, I am not pleased that you cannot reach the CEO or any of the big shots about your concerns. That speaks volumes. 2, I am a certified holistic therapist and a close, life long friend of my friend who attends here. I have been, without a shadow of a doubt, more beneficial and useful to his healing than his Best Self peer advisor and therapist. First of all, someone with that amount of trauma should not be seeing a therapist only once a month. Second, why are you giving him a peer advisor who does a ton of drugs and is not yet completely sober? Third, both of them do not intervene nor interject and when he asks for solutions reply with "I don't know" or "what do you think you should do?" If he knew, he wouldn't be coming to you, now would he? So what is the point in him coming?

I called in April for an appointment for my child. Intake was completed, but they never informed the location where I had arranged for treatment. I was also told not to call that location. The outcomes that I was trying to prevent came to pass. I am sure the counselors are wonderful, but if their intake department prevents you from receiving care because of their ineptitude, the level of care available is irrelevant.

I came in at 1030am because they said be here at noon for walk-in intake. I last was seen in April. I guess because I was discharged I have to do the intake over. The receptionist with the purple ponytail said come in at noon I said I would be in the lot. I did my paperwork and signed. Seen her (same girl) at 12:29pm in the lot waking by my car and said I’m still here can I check in now? She said I remember you come in at 1pm. It’s 1:04 therefore I went in at 1pm and it’s a different lady who said it’s two people before me to come back at 2pm. I asked how? The other lady said 1pm I’ve been sitting here since 10:30am. She said oh she’s at lunch. I asked for a MANAGER she said that’s me. I asked why do I have to wait another hour when I was here first I never left the lady before me knew this. She said things CHANGE daily. My original counselor is no longer with this company. I’m starting to understand why!!! This is not professional behavior for a mental health organization. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND not coming here THEY don’t care about you or your time. Disgusting behavior for our humanity. I’m disappointed at our society for what we become just another number/check. Summer street location Update: 1:26pm the receptionist with the purple ponytail came outside. I seen her because I’m in my car writing you I asked her what happened she said at 12:30pm when she walked in it was already two people ahead when I was there before 12:30 and I asked can I sign in at 12:30 it was a no for me but the other two was able to I had to wait for 1pm just to be told to wait till 2pm. I’m not returning.

Horrible, I trusted this place for 2+ years for my teenager son. who self-harmed, had suicide attempts. They jerked us around for 2.5 to years in getting him into DBT therapy. His first counselor wasnt a good fit so we changed counselors. This was a much better fit and being a kid who doesn't easily trust he was able to trust her. Until...at the end of an emergency appt, this therapist told him that she was leaving Best Self and he would have only 1 final week with her!!! Working in this field for 20 years, THAT is the most horrible thing you can do to a client and none the less a kid! No transition plan for a new therapist, no warm hand off. This is a kid who was supposed to be in counseling weekly. After 3 weeks I called a supervisor. When they finally called me back they said they thought they found the right match...and the only available appt was a week day am at 10. My 16 year old would miss 1/2 of school once a week to make this appt. They said they didn't have any other options. After I expressed all of my frustrations and the experiences, the supervisor blamed it on turnover and the fact that therapists get trained and leave. She did not talk about the cash cow best self has become, the fact that they overwork their therapists, best self is more focused on billing than people. I have known individuals who work or have worked at best self and their experiences are always the same. When Lakeshore and CATS were separate entities, I never questioned their Mission or dedication to the people they serve. Now their clients are meant to serve them! I am paying a fortune to get my beautiful child the support they need through a private counselor. And while this is very difficult to financially maintain, I know I am fortunate enough to be able to make it work for now. I know everyone does not have this and they are left with the mediocrity of BestSelf . People deserve better.

I've actually been going to this place off and on since I was a child myself back in the late 90's. It was incredibly helpful for myself back when I was a child and it is now incredibly helpful for my own autistic son. The staff are very professional, kind and caring. They have gone above and beyond to meet my son's specific needs and I have seen an incredible difference in him since we began treatment for him here. They truly went way above necessary to help our situation and to ensure my son succeeds in life with the struggles he has with having the diagnosis and difficulties he has. I'd strongly recommend this place to anyone who has concerns about their own child's mental health, they got my son to feel more comfortable with himself than he has in his entire life and they got him to open up more than he ever has in his entire life. And although we still have more work to do I am constantly grateful to them for strengthening our relationship and strengthening his ability to express himself and his ability to be comfortable in his own skin in the world around him. This has been a major concern since he was first diagnosed with autism as a toddler and for the first time in his life after all the different therapies we have tried he is actually comfortable with himself and telling me how he truly feels and opening up. I will always be grateful to the wonderful staff here, they truly changed my son's life for the better and I so look forward to seeing even more positive growth and change in him as he continues treatment. Highly, highly recommend, could not recommend a place more than this place for your child's mental health treatment, life changing. This place helps all people, of all ages, from all walks of life but my experience with them has only been within the area of treatment of children and adolescents so that is all I feel comfortable speaking on, that being said a wonderful place for seeking treatment for your child.

I love Dr Alacandri as well as my counselor. I absolutely HATE calling through to the front desk as they NEVER answer or they hang up on you. I have called in the past to make appointments and have had to leave thousands of messages and still not recieve a call back. Some of the staff who answers the calls are very cold, and unwelcoming, I have been going to best self for years and honestly I feel the staff was better when I first started compared to now. Like I said I love my Dr and counselor and the nurses for Dr Alacandri but I wish everyone was as friendly as they are. Working at a place where people go for mental help or for substance use you shouldn't be so cold to the patients as we are there for help not to feel unwelcome or unwanted, some people won't come in for help if they feel that way and that can hurt someone sobriety, or mental health.

My counselor, medication prescriber, peer advocates and the people at the front desk are all very nice. They take there time to work with me through my problems and help me take the right steps to succeed the goals we set that lead me to success. When I need my meds refilled, she calls me not only to let me know there refilled but also when there ready! That’s extremely helpful. Great team they have there. I’m glad I chose to go there and continue to.

I've had a truly unique experience at best self I've been in and out of treatment for years and after awhile I started to feel like I was doomed but even with my revolving door of treatment I was treated with respect and given encouragement that you don't always find after several years of treatment they saved my life or helped me save my life ,no were is perfect for everyone but I've had great success after beginning my treatment at best self there is good day,s and bad days but I've always felt safe and respected at best self even when I was having bad days they didn't give up on me if you really want to make a change the staff will help you

Reception is horrendous. They make appointments I never made and say it's my fault I didn't come, cancel or reschedule my appts last second or I've even found out upon arrival. THE ONLY reason I've stayed is Dr. Nora she's amazing. Other than that pretty much nobody there is of any use say a couple people. Constant problems w prescriptions and dosages. I could go on and on

This operation doesn't have a consistent continuity of care they have a huge turn over in staff their communication as a facility lacks in follow up and consistency. Do NOT go here for mental health they no accountability when working with mental health patients and they are quick to discharge their patients who have a voice for their own mental health. This facility tries to push their drug treatment program even if you don't use on to new patients and when a patient proves there is no drug alcohol use consistently this facility tries to push their own agenda for drug treatment. I highly advise not to go here.

counselor are ok but they dont seem to match you with the type of EXPERIENCED counselor that one requires. It was a whole waste of my time. my assigned counselor frequently mentioned that he was fresh out of college and he would literally read and search for answers while supposedly counseling me. i felt like i knew more than he did what a waste of time!!!

Everyone we dealt with was great at the Delaware location. However, they do not have enough spots for counseling. Their policy is that the child needs to see a counselor to also see the psychiatrist. My daughter’s counselor had no openings so we were seeing just the psychiatrist. One day we show up for an appointment and they say they had dropped her because she hasn’t seen a counselor?!? They were the ones who stopped the counseling, not us. My daughter was doing well, liked the counselor and the psychiatrist and if we wanted to stay there we would have to go theough the entire intake process again. They should call it “WORST SELF”- don’t waste your time. Pretty cruel to put a young child through such a roller coaster. We will not be using them again. Don’t waste your time!!

My counselor Edward is amazing!! He’s not only guide and directs me with my treatment, but in addition, he is very humble, kind, a great listener, and very knowledgeable on topics we discuss.

I went out on a whim and decided to switch to Best Self from my previous provider, and it’s definitely one of the best things I’ve done! I told myself that this was my fresh start that I needed in my mental health journey and I was right. I got to pick which groups I wanted to take according to what I felt I needed. The groups are very informative and fun too. What’s said in group stays in group. The counselors are amazing and will help however they can! Because it’s a smaller program the counselors have a lighter case load which opens up time to meet with your counselor more frequently. Everyone is nice, friendly, upbeat, supportive, and so much more!! The nurse is so sweet and kind. The psychiatrist I work with is amazing, he’s always ready to listen and help, he’ll talk through things with you during your sessions. He explains everything thoroughly which is great because you can’t get that everywhere. I highly recommend the Best Self Pro’s program to anyone who is ready to take the bull by the horns for their own mental health wellness!

I enjoy the counselors at Best Self. It's hard to get progress reviews and clear answers to the number of sessions that "count". Billing also seems to be an issue that I receive calls about often.

I had 3 counselors in a matter of months because they all quit and took other jobs. Dr Emaan is great, but she is the only positive I can say about this place.

BestSelf always has support available when I need it and I need it often. They are the reason I can keep moving forward. The groups they offer are very helpful and educational. My nephew and I will be forever grateful.

When I first booked a therapy appointment, I thought it would be difficult to open up to someone, especially a complete stranger, about my problems. But everyone there is so friendly and welcoming that I found it to be much easier than I had expected. Would definitely recommend to anyone in need of therapy.

Thus far everything has been going well—my counselor is helpful and attentive and my group is educational and supportive. I’ve had no difficulty scheduling appointments or reaching people by phone. I’m very satisfied with the service I’m receiving.
