Great visual and written explanations of the volcanoes and generally the area. 3D and murals offer an insight into the volcanoes you’re about to see. Toilets here and good parking. Small shop across the road for refreshments.

Lot of people skip the museum either because it is not marked very well or they are rushing to the volcano. It should be visited before the volcano as it gives a great overview of the area and the relative position of everything i.e. what you would be seeing up there. Spend 10-15 minutes browsing to get a good idea.

Really good visitors center, and amazing to see an actual smoking volcano crater. The early evening visit would also allow you to see the lava, which you miss in the day time

What experience!!! Soo cool, watch the sunset, and look at Magma!!! We went at 4 perfect timing before all the crazy line up! 10usd to enter after 430 for the sunset. And night visuals of the volcano Masaya. I'm going to tell you, get there at 4pm with your rental car, wait in line until 430 open pay the 10usd per person my daughter who was 6 was free. Hit it up the Museum get the information about the Giant volcano, last huge major eruption I think he said 3,000 years ago, and last lava flow was 1970's.There is a "bat" cave inside the museum with real bats!! Back in 1550's the Spaniards came put up a cross thinking it was the gates to hell. The aboriginals, prior to that thought, there was a magic Hag who used to live there and told the tribes to sacrifice their maidens and children (of course) Such a cool experience for our family! A must see place!!!

It has a lot of geological info about the volcano and the evolution of earth, it's perfect to pass the time if you're early for the lava lake tour!

A place with several graphical assets and scaled models of the volcano. There is an area dedicated to bats, with the actual bats inside the building, and a nice restaurant in the end.

  • 4/5 Gary S. 2 years ago on Google
The Masaya museo was educational. My favorite parts were the live bats flying freely in the exhibit and the restaurant that has stunning views of the lake.

This is nice small museum that serves as a good introduction to the park. The balcony has some great views of Lake Masaya, and the exhibits have some good details on Nicaragua's geology and biology. There are also some bats roosting there, so it's easy to encounter the wildlife.

this was very nice experience for the all fam.. one of thing that made this volcano unique is the easy access in vehicle to his crater. very dirent from other including the ones that we visit in Hawaii we need to in helicopter. and 2nd thing in volacan masaya price was reasonable compare to the ones in Hawaii.

Certainly, the piece de resistance is the Masaya Volcano and everyone will be itching to head straight for it. However, if you can show some restraint and be a little patient, it might be worth it to stop first at this little museum which educates all who visit the history, geology, biology, geography and future of the volcano and surrounding area. Nice use of graphics and models. I especially like the bat habitat with real bats flying around... I am not so sure the live bats are intentional. Anyway, a short 30 minute walk through and then it is on to the main course.
