Surprisingly more interesting than I expected. Much more than the Residential Villa in golden finishing that I thought it was. It's a great trip through history. A storyteller of the City development into a holiday winter destination of North European aristocracy. Includes excellent examples of fashion jewellery, outfits and memorabilia. Highly recommended. The garden is also worth a stroll.

Very pleasant visit to this sumptuous palace, very richly decorated and perfectly preserved. Museum that traces the history of Nice, Marshal Masséna and the empire. Very nice collection of objects that belonged to The Emperor and Josephine. Among other things, Napoleon's mortuary mask made by Dr. Arnolt, Josephine's tiara in mother-of-pearl, gold, pearls and colored stones offered by Murat to the Empress and the book written by Prefect Liegeard. You will be able to meet 19th century landscape painters and more particularly Joseph Fricero, Antoine Trachel or Alexis Mossa...

Great historical location in Nice, definitely worth visiting. You can take an audio tour guide. Beautiful interiors and garden, take your time and enjoy such a great location. We liked garden the most with orange trees and palms surrounding the villa.

This is a lovely building, with some amazing rooms and exhibits, set in beautiful grounds. There is a video in English and French which was interesting to sit through, to discover more about Nice. Certainly a museum worth visiting if you're in the area.

Villa Masséna is a wonderful museum, right in the center of Nice. It has a beautiful park around. There are 2 floors. The ground floor is with adorable decorated rooms and in the living room you can see interesting movie about history of Nice and Villa. The first floor has unexpected things: not only pictures, but some jewelry and costume elements. Highly recommend 👌

A beautiful museum. The ground floor was of a particular interest to me, as it has all the decor from the early 20th century intact (almost no furniture here, though, if you're looking for that!). I also enjoyed the exhibit on the life in Nice through the years. Lots of interesting paintings and small artifacts. If you're a student, admission is free!

A tree story high villa that has been very well taken care of, same for the furniture and the wall art/paintings. The descriptions were in french only, no English, so that was a bit confusing. It’s a breathtaking place though and I definitely recommend visiting it.

A very good art gallery in Nice, which records the history and culture of France. The scenery from Napoleon to Nice, and several oversized oil paintings are great!

The garden has majestic palm trees and ample shade. An imperial introduction to the Permanent exposition in the Museum , déambulating through time, which feels welcomed in a mansion, sharing family pictures of notorious people, prince and princess, emperor Napoleon, paintings of Queen Victoria, The king of Sardaigne and his queen, even a massive #lego transposition of Napoleon-3rd, first president of France and initiator of the 2nd French Republic. Posters from the past remind us, if needed, that The area was a Winter spot for wealthy nobles.. The Temporary expo on the 3rd floor, ‘Nice en fleur’ color-full and, well, closer to us, non-royals. Well worth the 15-euros admission for 2 hours.

If you need some culture in between sunbathing, shopping and dining, Musée de la Villa Masséna is a perfect and cool spot. It is a grand building with marvelous interiors. The museum exhibits the history of the Riviera, and it is truly interesting. The present exhibition of Nice, reine des fleurs (queen of flowers), is diverse and beautiful with paintings, posters, maps, old photos and artifacts. This special exhibition is available up to 9th of October 2022. Entrance fee to the museum is 15 euros.

When you visit Nice during the Summer it can be a good idea to avoid the heat and visit some of the city museums. There is a ticket deal allowing you to visit multiple museums in 24 hours. Musee Massena is a large elegant mansion with a collection of art and ephemera from the 18th and 19th C; with local significance. There are big portraits, one of Napoleon’s coronation is similar to work by David or Ingres and there others of his military achievements. I think I would have liked a timeline of history to contextualise things but overall found the musee most interesting. We loved this 18th C hat and box among the collection’s pieces.

The Museum is located inside this beautiful villa built by Victor Masséna, Duke of Rivoli, in 1898 and donated by the son André to the city of Nice in 1919. On the ground floor there are some decorated halls, on the first floor instead there are various exhibits about the history of the city. Second and third floors were closed at the moment of my visit in April. The ticket costs 10€ or 15€ if you buy the Nice Museum Pass.

27 April 2022 Wednesday. the museum is closed yet again for some private party. Absolutely disgusting abuse of political power by the Major Estrosi using the city museum for his personal political gains😤 please check twice with the museum office if it's open for the public before you go.

Amazing museum surrounded by an amazing city with an incredible vibe one of 40 cities in have visited in France and Nice is just incredible. I can't explain the atmosphere with merely words one needs to experience and taken in the breadth and width of this majestic city. Back to the museum it was very interesting almost a blend of contemporary and classic art mixture.

Villa Massena Musee is a must see location in Nice. It is included in the Nice museums pass that you can get at any of the museums in nice for 15€ and you can use it for 3 days to visit the museums. It is a great showcase of architecture and a beautifully explained history of nice. On the last floor they have temporary exhibitions that change quite regularly so don't forget to check them out, because they are usually included in the museum tickets!

Polite staff, and the 2 floors we did get to visit were beautiful, and worth the time. The reason for the 1 stars is because only 2 of the 4 total floors we’re visitable. Even the garden, one of the main attractions was blocked off, due to politicians blocking out the venue for bureaucrats. We were not told of this whilst buying the tickets (which are €10), and we’re only informed once we made it into the museum. Even informed is a stretch, because we had to ask around to understand why we could not go to the other floors before finally being told. Shameful, shameful practice! If you’re visiting, it’s best to avoid going out of your way to visit, as several reviews have previously mentioned this happening to them as well. Visit date: 17th, June, 2022.

Beautiful museum in the heart of Nice. I took my 3 year old daughter here and they had a LEGO exhibit at the time, which was really neat to see amongst the historical elements of the building. You can get through the whole museum and under an hour, and its central location in Nice makes it easy to stop by after visiting the beach.

We happened to come on a holiday and it was free, a nice surprise! I wished more of the museum was in English, it was hard to follow when you can’t read along. The garden exhibit was a fun surprise and didn’t need much of a translation, although there was more for that exhibit.

(Translated by Google) The Massena museum is located on the Promenade des Anglais side, next to the Negresco hotel. But access is via the rue de France. Entrance tickets are purchased through the shop. The ground floor is particularly interesting, it is even the only floor to visit. The temporary exhibitions, therefore the objects are very often linked to the life of Nice and of very limited interest. But once again, entering this museum, to visit the ground floor, will give you an idea of the life of a bourgeois family from the 19th century. Regarding Masséna, it should be remembered from this soldier, that he was a fine opportunist, since he served successively, royalty, revolutionaries, the first consul, then the emperor, and during the restoration, again royalty. !!!

(Translated by Google) NATIONAL QUALITY NAPOLEON III EXPO First, we say to ourselves: another dossier exhibition! As the Parisian museums say! We imagine that around the pretext "The official trip of Napoleon III and his wife to Nice in 1860", the organizers have put together a few evocations and summary tables. Well ! Not at all ! This exhibition is remarkable and the organizers should be thanked and congratulated. Certainly the trip is mentioned (perhaps a little summarily) but above all, the excellent idea was to bring to life around this pretext, the nineteenth century of the Second Empire (clothes, jewelry, paintings, etc.) whose presentation is varied and successful even if the Masséna museum has a quality collection from the 19th century. Explanatory panels intelligently accompany the visitor. A few pieces deserve to be mentioned, such as the full-length painting that Queen Victoria offered in Nice in 1885 to President Félix Faure and on loan from the Musée de Versailles. Another success: the presentation of many paintings and engravings from Nice to the 19th. We discover the transformed landscapes from the Promenade des Anglais, the Pont Neuf, the Buffa district, the port, the Ponchettes. We also discover the first hotels that welcomed the first tourists who made the reputation of the capital of the French Riviera. A beautiful informative moment in the sumptuous setting of the Villa Masséna whose 19th century decor lends itself perfectly to the subject. Congratulations also to the managers of the villa for their work in opening up this place to various and multiple activities that keep it alive all year round (constant temporary exhibitions, concerts, etc.). That's it ! Villa Masséna has come out of its slumber! And from above! Question de faire de la com ! Eh bien !
