The fort is quite nice. Unfortunately, you can only enter it as a part of a guided tour and the tour times are only posted inside the fort instead of outside before you walk all the way up there. When we arrived at the fort we found out that the next guided tour was in 90 minutes only. It would be great to have this information in advance so one could actually plan one's way up there to get there when a tour is about to start.

Worth a visit if only for the nice views over Antibes and its port, and the French Riviera toward Nice. Double-check the opening hours as they have changed (temporary?). Our tour was in French only and lasted 30 minutes. It's not possible to visit without a tour. Save some money and buy the museum pass which includes Picasso, Archeological and Peynet.

The best view of Port Vauban and Nice. It is my daily walk and it truly refreshes the soul.

If you are planning to have a long lunch break against your opening hours, please tell people BEFORE they climb the hill with their kids and 35° temperature. Arriving at the top in front of a closed door, well done!

If you like fortifications as much as me then this is the place for you. The fort originates from the 16th century, and was built on the heights above the harbour of Antibes by way of protection. Vauban redesigned the whole structure later in the 17th century, so that the fort is now a perfect example of defence against artillery, with its star-shaped design, bastions and ramparts

Beautiful and historic fortress. Currently due to covid you should book the guided tour beforehand, which one costs 3€ for adults and1,5€ for students

Closed due to rain. If the weather is bad, they will close. Weren't very friendly about it after I walked in the rain and just asked to go under the awning just to dry off and reload Google maps. No signs to indicate beforehand it was closed. They need to make people more aware of potential weather closures.

Fort Carré is a lovely place to visit, full of history and a rare example of a fully formed star fort, that hasn't crumbled to the elements. The views from the ramparts is fantastic, and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Well worth a visit

We had the accomodation 3.5 km away, but decided one morning to walk to the Fort Carré and it was definitely a great idea. The entrance fee is just 3 or 4 euros, there is also a guided tour included in this small price. For safety reasons, the upper part of the Fort can be visited only with the guide, in small groups. But totally worth it! I highly recommend this place!

From nearest car park 10-15 mins uphill walk mostly not smooth but interesting. 3 € or 1.5 € if over 65. Guided tours and language depends on group and actual tour guide. Ours was excellent. French first to about half group and then english. Great views and interesting talks.

Can reach the place via free shuttle in Antibes from Port Marine(near old town). The view from Fort is good. Can be visited if you’re a James Bond fan as there was a scene shot for Never say never again here. Also the panoramic view was nice from the top.

Well worth coming if you are near. Beautiful views of Antibes, Port Vauban and the sea from the top! Only 3€ per adult. Might as well go on the tour, which was very interesting, was in French and English. There were 2 battles here, against England and Italy.

Can definitely skip. Not that interesting and it’s not true that Napoleon was imprisoned here. Also it’s not clear when there will be tours or how often and it’s not clear where to park. (Google parking lot for le fort carre and then use that as your destination. Parking is free. Then must walk 20 minutes behind the fort to entrance. Arrive at least 30 min before tour starts to account for all the walking and parking.) Yea the view is nice but not worth having to go on a tour. The bastion/construction could be interesting but the tour guide gives very little info on this and it all must be read on the signs, which you aren’t given enough time to read.

Difficult to get into, but very nice historical place. Took a guided tour and the guide was super friendly and had a good pace. The entrance fee was well worth it. Excellent place to visit.

Nice ancient fort. Amazing views of the surrounding areas. Cheap entry fee with guided tour, and due that it's a fast tour. Unfortunately you can't walk around inside the fort, according to the guides it's due "safety reasons". 4 stars because it's nice, cheap and the correlation between the price and the view it's worth it, however you can't walk around by yourself. I don't think the inside could be any dangerous, I have been on forts, castles and palaces in worst conditions without any restrictions.

I feel scammed. The only option to visit the fortress is via guided tour which takes 30 minutes. Tour starts every hour. Now 3e is not expensive for such a service if you know this in advance and are able to plan your time accordingly. Unfortunately that information is not displayed. I came at 2:05 as the fortress is closed till 2PM. Only after I bought the ticket did they tell me that I’ll have to wait almost an hour for the next tour. If you are visiting Antibes for a day, this is not worth it unless you plan it super carefully as the fortress is far away from the city center.

We bought a 10 € ticket to visit 4 museums, including this fort, at the Antibes Tourist Office, which was a great decision. The fort is very beautiful, with amazing views of Antibes, Nice, the beach and the ocean. The guided tour was very interesting and the guide was enthusiastic and well-prepared. During the guided tour, she showed us maps and pictures of what the fort used to look like in different periods. She was very knowledgeable and unlike most guided tours, I think I will be able to retain a lot of the information that was provided. I'd really recommend a visit.

The fort itself is possibly worth a visit. The good: entry fairly cheap at €3 per adult, gives lovely views of the town and surrounding areas. We had a lovely tour guide who did her best to provide information in both French and English The bad: If you're coming from Antibes by foot, it is a bit of a walk - 25 minutes or so from the old town. Not a problem in itself, but no water is available even in the height of the summer heat, and you may have to wait up to 30 minutes for a tour to begin as you are not allowed self-guide. Overall, if stuck for something to do, could be worth going.

Today 10/12/2022 it's the second time I'm trying to visit this place and it's closed, with only an announcement at the locked entrance. The first time they had decided to lock the door at 4pm, one hour before closing. Some respect to the visitors would be nice.

Beautiful little hike out of Antibes to get some quiet and view of Nice. Local spot with people jogging and walking dogs. Great for sunset even if the fort is closed

You have a great view from the top. To go I side you have to book a guided tour. It is a nice walk to the Fort Carré.

The other reviews about the "tour" are true. Kind of disappointing to go all the way up there to find out you can only get in if you are part of their "tour". It would be nice to have this information on their web page so you can plan appropriately.

Interesting site to visit. Excellent views on Antibes and up the coast to Nice. The site presents historical information on the development of Antibes and the port, along with the garrison itself. Our guide Thibault was super.

The Tour guide was very kind and had a great sense for humour. Also he told many things about the fort. A great place to visit and a great view

If you want to visit it, you have to register first. There are no unaccompanied visits. This information is _not_ publicly available on their site nor on the first of the information boards you encounter when you reach the site. I missed it on the second board - of course, after spending time to actually get to the place, read the first board and walk pass the second one. We kissed the closed door, and while waiting saw two other groups who were also unpleasantly surprised as we were.

Nothing amazing to be honest. Was a nice walk to get there, you have to pay if you want to go in though.

Designed for perfect defense. The octogan/ circle /rectangle layout giving it strong formation. Strategically placed on a hill, it overlooks both Antibes city, the sea and mountains behind. Worth the very long 30mins walk and 3 euro entrance.

Walking around the fort is worth as you can enjoy the sea view but you can't enter without reservation. Good for history lovers and nature lovers because they have protected nature on the land area around Fort Carre. Not far from beautiful and calm beach and big parking and bus number 14.
