The Trophy was built c. 6 BC in honor of Augustus to celebrate his definitive victory over the 45 tribes who populated the Alps. The Alpine populations were defeated during the military campaign to subdue the Alps conducted by the Romans between 16 and 7 BC.

Impressive Roman victory monument located in the hills just above Monaco in the medieval village of La Turbie, along the old Roman road, the Via Julia. It has been extensively restored in the early 20th century, with certainly photogenic results. The monument is located on a very strategic position, with wide views over coast and highlands. The history of the monument and it’s restoration are documented in a small but informative museum. Be advised that opening hours vary with the season (see photo). When I visited early on a Sunday morning I had the site practically to myself.

Worth the perspective above the Mediterranean, a birds eye view of Monaco, is a unique tribute, from the 6 Century BC to some of Romes great generals and emperors.....

One of only a very few monuments of its type. Impressive monument celebrating Roman victory over 44 Northern hostile tribes. There is a small museum to show how it was partially restored and what it might have looked like. You can climb up to get fabulous views of the surrounding area.

It's just wow.... The trophy of Augustus was built in honor of the Roman emperor - Augustus for the decisive battle against the last Ligurian tribe. This edifice was destroyed and part of the ruins were used for the construction of the Saint-Michel church....then this monument was very well restored and now it is a pearl of the Côte d'Azur with an extraordinary view towards Monaco, Monte Carlo , a part of the Italian coast as well as the Mediterranean Sea

We visited the little gorgeous village EZE and then decided to drive on through the mountains to Menton and stopped at The Trophy of Augustus, wow it is worth the visit and climb the ancient temple and visit the little museum onsite and once you have finished make sure you visit the village adjoining the ancient site, it is beautiful, Happy travel’s beautiful people

If you like Roman history this place is for you. Not crowded when I visited at 2pm. Confusing to find the entrance since navigation leads you to the back door next to the cemetery. Make sure you set your destination as the entrance parking lot or welcoming center where you get your tickets

Absolutely stunning and 100% worth it for 6 euros. It is located in a garden with local foliage and you can climb up the Monument and see a view of San Remo, La Turbie, and more. There is a small but profoundly informative museum with leather notebooks chronicling the reconstruction. The reconstruction done in the 1900s was true to Roman architecture principles and they even cataloged and took back the marble and limestone that was used for the medieval village houses. The uneven medieval additions make you appreciate Roman craftsmanship. The Romans even imported marble from Italy to build the Monument. It's truly spectacular

Spectacular panoramic view of the city and the sea. The structure dates back 2000 years and is magnificent in size. Must see if you are in Nice.

Not much to see, but interesting when you go inside the small museum they have there. Also if one go up to the monument for example at this time of the year you can manage to see the snow on the top of the Alps.

It’s ok I guess. Be careful, they like to be closed. The whole thing is not from BC. Some of it is rebuilt. You can see on the signage. Only came because I’ve seen everything else in this boring place, French Riviera.

The Trophy of Augustus is worth a visit. The old village next to the monument was fun to stroll down the streets and alleys on our way to the monument. Once at the monument, you really get a sense of how grand it was. The view from the top is beautiful. The small museum was nice to understand how the monument looked before it was destroyed. Don't forget to see the mostly in tacked seal from the back of the monument. And of course the view of Monaco from the top is the icing on the cake.
