We visited Chester several times last year and each visit we ended spending some time exploring the independent shops and browsing the high street names at the Grosvenor Shopping Centre. Located directly within the city's historic walls, this indoor shopping arcade makes for a pleasant break especially when the weather turns rainy. The marble floors and arched ceilings give the space a grand, antique feel that provides an atmospheric setting for browsing. Spotting the remnants of the original 15th century architecture is like stepping back in time. Intermixed with merchants of old are modern cafes and chains like TK Maxx. It's fun to search out little boutiques squeezed between the larger retailers. Many come just to wander and take in the views out to Eastgate Clock and Bridge Street beyond the colonnades. It's also a family-friendly one-stop-shop with prizes for little ones readily available. As with many centers, the loss of anchor stores during the pandemic like Debenhams left noticeable gaps. That said, monthly pop-ups help fill empty units and add an ever-changing element. Staff are consistently pleasant and knowledgeable about the local area. Access and parking underneath is very convenient. Public restrooms would enhance the customer experience and I believe is a main pain point. Overall, the Grosvenor Shopping Centre nonetheless serves as a nice mid-trip pause when touring all that historic Chester has to offer.

The Grosvenor Shopping Centre is a beautiful place to shop in the heart of Chester. It is within easy walking distance of the city walls and chesters famous clock. It is best experienced by entering through the attractive bridge street entrance. There are a lot of very good independent shops, as well as national retailers and there are plenty of good pubs and cafes nearby that provide excellent food.

Not a bad shopping centre. Could have been warmer considering the weather outside. Found a good few things we wanted and some more. Might go again depending on the weather. Prefer shopping in the open air

Grosvenor Shopping Center in Chester. This indoor shopping center is located right in the city center. Inside there are cafes, various clothing/shoe stores (for example TK Maxx), groceries, electronics, watches, flowers, household goods, etc. The staff is always nice and friendly.

A very beautiful place. It's a taste of historical Tudor buildings with a fabulous and grand shopping arcade. A good view of the Eastgate clock along the Grosvenor shopping center. Beautiful people around.

Sadly alot of shops closed down in particular Brown's, the card shop, some nice clothes shops etc etc. Will have to go further afield to find clothes and cards. Chester caters more for eating, drinking, 'nik nak' shops etc. Very disappointing.

Preferable place for the needings such as sport clothes, perfumes and cosmetics, pioneer watches, coffe mobile phones, exchanhe etc. Not very large area and exhibits limited or selected products which is located at heart of Chester.

Had a nice afternoon shopping here, plenty of shops to see, car park easily accessible, usual prices you don't have to get the full 24 hours for £10, and there is always the park & ride near the zoo. We wandered into the town got a coffee, saw the cathedral , I live so close but not been for years, So will be going again,

Best shopping arcade in town. Nice shops. Nice staff. Especially the lady of the 'Gift Company' shop was a humdinger. (thanks for your help when you read this). Anyhow, marvellous place ... Manfred Kleimann, Kassel, Germany

If you want the real experience of the beautiful Grosvenor Shopping Centre you must walk onto and through the Bridge Street Entrance. There you will be surrounded by the history and stunning architecture. You walk through into the more modern part and back onto Eastgate Street. Some of the shops are empty at the moment. However you still are able to buy coffee, hot food and have a browse at some shops.

In the centre of this historic town, lots of quirky shops, plus a big jewelry centre. Pubs eateries and the old walls close by so adds to the atmosphere.

Still the heart of Chester's shopping experience. Has always maintained the highest standards. Only shame has been the loss of Debenham. It would be wonderful if the new owners could fill this void in such a way as to bring back the total feel of this space which was world class shopping under one roof.

Chester is a good place to shop, just a shame more shops have closed especially in grosvenor shopping centre after the covid lockdown. I saw a few new places that had opened small cafes and pubs that had seating outside or in a beer garden just what you need in a warm late summer day. As I wasn't there too long didn't take any photos, but I will next time I'm there.

Lovely precinct but in light of the Covid19 situ , I did not feel safe at all as it was too busy. No one was observing social distancing. It was a free for all btw.. tis photo was taken in the quieter part. By the build a Bear shop/the works, it was heaving

Would of given five stars. but parking let it down. Parking is ticket less. You have to rely on the machine.when you find it. Put your reg in it tells you how much then you pay. When you get to the barrier they dont let you out. Press the button for help. A voice comes on little speaker (which is hard to hear and understand) telling you you owe more money. After a short conversation the barrier was opened I was told to pay remaining money with 7days.no info given where. After a very long phone call finally got through to customers service and was sorted out. Very stress full. Will never visit there again.

Lovely shopping centre with various shops within. Clean and well spaced for social distancing. Unfortunately foot locker has closed which is what I came to see but otherwise TK Maxx and top man are also great shops to browse.

Lovely place to shop. Though some of the public need to be on a socially distance awareness course. Good variety of shops. Good attendance to safe shopping and virus protection ie hand sanitizers, signage and staff advising of the need to wear face masks.

Very nice shopping centre. Since the loss of Arcadia group there are a number of units empty. However this does not detract from having a pleasurable experience. Chester is a great place to visit and has a very diverse appeal for all ages. Full of history with an abundance of shops for all.

  • 3/5 KIMBOW C. 2 years ago on Google
Didn't get to see all of it. However there was a lovely smell of fresh flowers greatibgvne as I exited the car park lift into the centre. I had a quick look in a few shops and the bakery cafe. From what I saw of the centre it was clean and well maintained. The car park is now paperless and card only payments on level 1 & 2 which you need your car REG 🚗for too.

  • 2/5 Colin M. 2 years ago on Google
A lot of shops and no replacements taking their place, too many empty shells. The car park is reasonable, however what is most frustrating is no public toilets in a centre this size you would expect some to be there, maybe use one of the empty shops!

  • 2/5 Lindsay D. 2 years ago on Google
Not an overly large shopping centre, I didn't stay long, was originally looking for a public toilet and expected a shopping centre would have them but this one does not. I'm disabled and struggled to find public toilets in town but to find no public toilets in a shopping centre in 2021 is outrageous!

  • 2/5 keith g. 2 years ago on Google
Hardly anything left open. This has to start hitting the landlords pocket soon. Will he lower rent to get more units open or let the whole thing become another charity shop area.

I got some of those micro frogs there, they all died within a week with no explanation. They were getting food, but not too much so as to overfeed them, but, DEAD. We went backs few weeks later, and must of them had disappeared from their tank, and i could visibly see 1 dead inside the tank at the petshop. I also got an axolotl from there, her name is cookie and she has been very healthy and seems to be staying that way

It's ok your run of the mill shopping mall. However while nothing to do with the centre I must point out that being Scottish and never having been to Chester. We decided to look on you tube. Lovely City but, in my opinion. The so called Town Crier should be dismissed from his position. In one video he can he heard calling Australia our penal colony and saying Scottish people greet each other with c u Jimmy. If he's supposed to be an ambassador for Chester he's a discrace and possibly a bit of a raceist. My opinion.

  • 5/5 Nicola F. 2 years ago on Google
Wet to western computer store (apple store) Costa store very close by 😀 a few empty shops at present due to Covid-19 I guess as lots of places have suffered from lockdown. The shopping centre was clean and tidy and had a nice safe feeling for a lone shopper in the city. Car parking nearby.

  • 4/5 Martyn F. 2 years ago on Google
It's a great place, has been for a while but it's losing shops quickly and becoming quite empty. Maybe reduce rent or do an outreach to new small businesses to build it up to more of a communal market area.

It was lovely, easy to park and pay, but there are no public toilets in there. We only found out after asking one of the lovely security staff. He did point us to some at Marks and Spencer, but not really ideal, as half of Chester was in the queue

  • 3/5 Michael P. 2 years ago on Google
Really disappointed by the experience. Plenty of empty shops combined with far to many jewellery shops selling overpriced tacky jewellery. I feel that the out of town centre has taken the life out of Chester combined with the large department stores suffering closures due to bankruptcy.

It's a nice play for some shopping therapy, however, it slowly turns into ghost town with more and more shops disappearing from the map. By the way, since they closed their toilets it's becoming quite inconvenient if you have kids... or small bladder.

  • 3/5 David H. 1 year ago on Google
Shame. Just a shame. This place is becoming derelict now. Places shutting all over the place. Toilets have gone. I mean seriously. It use to be my starting point around chester. Now I pretty much walk past it.

Very good, but I've seen better, it's like the pyramids in Birkenhead if you know it. The best thing about it is the HMV on the wall you exit from. Great t-shirts & even records back. No good anymore, because the minute I heard a CD I didn't want records at all with all that scratchy sound! No a CD is perfection & couldn't get any better, but we can get worse with tape cassettes I mean come on you could bearly hear them especially with them awful headphones you used to get with the Sony Walkman, if you're old enough to remember the sound of them, the sound? What bleeding sound? Sony should be ashamed of them headphones, because we all know it's the speakers & headphones quality that makes a good stereo no matter how cheap. Anyway I hope you like it. Anyway Love all xxxx Gaz-1

I booked for our anniversary 45 years ,booed a deluxe room it was nice but the view was awful probably the worst we have ever had any were we overlooked the roof and other rooms while this was disappointing not the end of the world . The carpet in the corridor outside our room was in need of a vacuum again not the end of the world the thing that annoyed me most of all there was no Internet at all I couldn't work and all I got was an apology. If they had let us know before we had set of we could of made other arrangements. I'm sorry just isn't good enough it made what should of been a pleasant stay a stressful one, also a extension lead at the side of bed in case we had to plug anything in (charger). Just like a poor B.B

Lovely antiquated shopping center, pity though quite a few shops have closed and gone bang, esp due to COVID.

  • 4/5 Leon L. 1 year ago on Google
An ok shopping centre with a few nice shops. It's not as good as some of the big shopping centres around the country like Merry Hill, Trafford Centre or Lakeside but it has a few nice shops. It's onsite carpark is in a nice location too if you want to shop plus visit other places, like the Riverside or Grosvenor Park. However, I did think the parking prices were a little expensive. Parking is ticket-less and uses a photo of your cars number plate for identification. To pay, all you do is enter your registration number onto the pay machine's screen then swipe your contactless VISA card (or similar) to pay, you can also insert your card and enter your PIN if preferred. The shopping centre has customer toilets too which is handy.

Five star review for the security guy who helped me out when my car broke down in the car park. I didn’t get his name but he submitted my car details to the centre management as the system wouldn’t let me extend my parking while I waited for the breakdown truck. Wonderful customer service.

Not a great option of shops, but some big high street names and some smaller quirky ones. No toilets here, we were directed to use Marks & Spencer's up the main street (the cheeky staff from the shopping centre!!)

So sad to see all the closed businesses, I remember having wonderful shopping trips there but oh my word the walk to the car with heavy bags soon wiped away that joy. I saw a lot of places to eat seem to be taking over and perhaps it is better placed to be a place to go out in and just do special small boutique shopping then having lunch or dinner, or a night out.

Review of the actual plot rather than any specific store. Walkways are nice and wide and it all looks clean and relatively well presented. Shame the toilets are always out of action though and the area near the escalators has been vacant now for some time.

Fairly small but clean shopping centre. Some shops have closed down so there are empty lots. Some high street name shops while also some nice independent type shops.

The selection of shops could be a lot better. There is some empty space that could be made available to vendors instead of empty shells. Quite disappointed with the fact that there isn’t even a public toilet in this shopping centre apart from in the Cafès.

Lovely shopping area mostly jewellery, right in the heart of historic walled Chester with it's famous roman connections, given that the ROMANS did bring sanitation to BRITON, I was disappointed to discover no public amenities on offer within or without very massive minus, considering the amount of touris🤒

Great place to find a comfy seat on a rainy day to enjoy my homemade sandwiches. Trips to Chester don't need to cost a fortune, walking round the incredible historic walls costs nothing, the museum costs nothing, and a free ride home on the bus with my bus pass. What a day!

Dire. Only half the shops open. Tk max the main shop. If you want a £10,500 watch or tat it's the place to go. Twenty years ago it was the finest shopping centre for miles around.

Stayed at the Leonardo and returned to the car park around 6pm. Sadly lift access to street level via the Centre was closed and unavailable and the only way out was to walk back down the entrance ramp. Not good when you’re on crutches. At least I wasn’t parked on the top level 🤷‍♂️

Has seen better days. Since Debenhams has left its gone downhill. Most stores are shut and it's really empty in there. And it says "shopping centre" when it only says TK Max underneath the signs outside. I thought it was going to be a premier inn, shame it didn't go ahead. The outside needs doing up, I know they did refurb it but it screams 80's and needs a whole new design. We need a Selfridges or Harrods (north version) or something like that to take up the old Debenhams. Other than that, Its lost its vibe over the years

  • 4/5 Danielle F. 6 months ago on Google
The lack of public toilets 🚻 knocks it a star for me, as well as lack of access to the car park through the centre after business hours. Otherwise it's nice and clean, a variety of shops, and a good sitting area in the middle.

Chester is not a good as it used to be. Covid sort to that, plus lots of shops closed and are now hip cafe/restaurants. Lost a little of its heart, but still beautiful and grosvenor precinct still has its charm and beauty.
