Original and refreshing vegan bar and eatery. Fast advice and free tasters available from sophisticated staff who really know the vegan scene. Liverpool eating at it's best, regularly attended by the discerning locals and visiting friends.

Love it! Going in slightly sceptical, as we are not vegans nor vegetarians but what I can say is there are a flurry of options to choose. The 4/20 fries were as delicious as they sound, the same with their salt and pepper fella 'chicken' burger too. Very generous portions for a good price and would happily visit again.

Without a doubt this restaurant has the best veggie/vegan food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The flavour and quality of the food is outstanding, service is fantastic. Seriously though ...get the Mac n cheese burger..bloody unreal. ...enough reading this post, order a Uber and get over there now. Other places will only bring remorse and regret.

We loved visiting here because of delicious and generous portions, good value and friendly ambience. We where not sure it was the right place with the little basement entrance, but inside is fine with interesting artwork. Probably the best vegan/veggie food we've eaten.

Down The Hatch has a great ambiance! They host a comedy night every other Tuesday and a music night every Thursday (all information is available on their Instagram). As for food, we tried out the Zinger (in the picture) and Mac's Big Break (the Mac and Cheese burger). We also upgraded the fries to the Salt and Pepper fries. The upgrade to the fries is definitely worth doing it. The sandwiches themselves are best described as interesting. And I don't mean that they are bad... I mean that they are an experience. The Mac and Cheese might not be up to everyone's tastes but it definitely an interesting taste to experience. The Zinger on the other hand is a safer choice but being a vegetarian restaurant, it's not the taste you'd expect from a similar burger but with a chicken patty instead. Again, it's still worth the experience. We spent 15 pounds per person here.

This place has a really fun and cosy vibe. We were welcomed and looked after well. Loads of options. I met some non vegan friends there and they loved the food too.

Very quirky place for food and drink. Menu is good with plenty of choice. I had the Shepard’s pie which was very nice and the staff are lovely. Good atmosphere and you can just go in for drinks if you wish. The men’s toilets are not great. One thing which would be great is if they added mac and cheese to the menu as a small side. Enjoyed my experience overall and glad I went.

The food here is absolutely delicious. The service is really great, they could not do enough for us. The toilets are really clean. The cocktails are absolutely fantastic too. I had the nicest espresso martini I have ever had here. They also had good deals on when we went and it's very good value for money. You need to go down some stairs to get inside so I'm not sure what disabled access is like.

Great, friendly quick service too, couldn't ask for more. love the vibes in this place, and would certainly recommend to any Vegan looking to eat out for lunch or Dinner in Liverpool. Such an awesome place, best vegan junk food i've had- where else can you get a vegan mac and cheese burger?! The staff were great and the service was quick. I liked the personal touches, like the cute notes in the bathrooms :)

The food is absolutely delicious here. Better than the food, the service is amazing here too. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. As soon as we were seated, someone came over to welcome us and explained how the menu worked. I'll definitely visit again when I'm next in Liverpool.

Incredible food (from a non-vegan) Conrad served us one of the best meals at ANY restaurant we've ever had. -Salt and pepper chicken PO boy -Northern Poutine -Crispy fried chicken wrap -Hot dog fries Absolutely incredible from start to finish. We'd love one of these to open in Sheffield, but will be recommending this place to all our friends and family when they visit Liverpool. Be proud!

Not only the best vegan burger I've had, but the best burger I've had full stop. And I'm from the States, the home of the burger. These guys know how to mix spices and textures in a perfectly gluttonous medley.

Really enjoyed this place for some vegan dinner! I was very happy when they let me order off the kids menu as a lot of places seem to have issues with adults ordering a small portion but they were very happy to let me so I got Mac n cheese which was very nice and extremely filling for a kids meal it was a lot! No idea how massive the adults would be! Very good price my fiancé had burger and loaded fries which he loved! Only one issue they did run out of vodka but not their fault we were going for a drink else where after dinner anyways! Staff very friendly and helpful 🥰

After accidentally going here without realising it was a vegan restaurant we decided to give it ago as has great reviews. First thing I'll give it credit for the taste, everything was tasty. What I enjoyed less was things not being what we expected. We ordered a Mac & Cheese but it turned out to be pasta in a red sause and apart from a sprinkle of cheese on top there wasn't any cheese in it. Similarly the Mac burger disappointed. There was no taste of cheese and it turned into a sloppy mess with the bread falling apart. As I mentioned the food was tasty but I didn't feel it lived up what we actually ordered. I also think for price it does not live up to the portion quantity it talks about on the website, the Mac & Cheese was no a very big portion. Staff were lovely and extremely helpful.

Top place in Liverpool! Had dinner here with my sister and it was difficult to choose from so many great options - we enjoyed everything! Mostly a vegan place. We tried the frickles and 2-4-1 burger deal. Salt an peppers fella burger - Stirfry type taste was yummy Apple Jack's BBQ burger with fries I wanted the Hazelnut Brownie Sundae with my main to have on the side during and asked, but it was forgotten and given at the end. So I had that after and didn't get another dessert. Great selection of drinks and a bar too!

Down The Hatch is my favourite vegan place to eat in Liverpool. The service is excellent, and will offer discount should anything go wrong. The staff are amazing and always super friendly. The food is consistently superb whether you order for delivery or dine in, and the cocktail menu while not huge is absolutely amazing, really tasty, and always vegan.

During our visit to Liverpool we had so much fun that I forgot to do my reviews, sorry for the delay but here it is. Let's talk about a place that's not just a restaurant – it's a whole experience, right in the heart of the city center. Down the Hatch, you've officially stolen my foodie heart! 💖 The uniqueness oozes from every corner – a basement haven that's somehow better than you'd ever imagine. And let me tell you, our lucky stars were shining that day because we snagged a table without the usual hustle and bustle. It made our meal feel like an enchanting journey. Now, brace yourselves for the food – it's a taste explosion from another universe. Seriously, folks, the flavors were so out-of-this-world amazing that I wished time would slow down so we could savor every bite. The menu? Oh boy, it's a treasure trove of culinary delights just waiting to be discovered. I'm convinced that everything on it is a slice of heaven, just like what we got to enjoy. Trust me when I say this: words fall short when it comes to describing how unbelievably good it is. You simply have to experience it yourself, and I promise you won't be disappointed. The vibe inside is absolutely adorable, like stepping into a cozy hideaway, and the service? Top-notch! So, my food-loving friends, I'm waving the recommendation flag high for Down the Hatch. And oh, don't even think twice – get yourself some loaded fries. You'll thank me later! 🍟🥰

Oh, let me tell you about my recent adventure at Down the Hatch! 🍔🌱 What a fantastic place this is. From the moment I walked down into the restaurant, it was like stepping into a foodie paradise. Fay and the team were like culinary superheroes, ready to save the day with their outstanding service! 🦸‍♀️💫 Now, let's talk about the food. Brace yourself because I'm about to drop a truth bomb – it's probably the best food I've had in a long time! 🍽️👏 If you think plant-based means bland, think again. Down the Hatch is like a flavour explosion in your mouth! 💥🌿 Fay was my menu guardian angel, swooping in to help navigate the plant-based wonderland. And for all you allergy warriors out there, worry not! They've got a list of allergens like E621 (MSG) and sulfates, so you can dine with peace of mind. 🙌🚫 But wait, there's more! The cocktails at Down the Hatch are a true work of art. 🍹🎨 I had sips of pure happiness in a glass – they're absolutely amazing! It's like a party in your mouth with every sip. 🎉🥂 So, a big shoutout to the fantastic team at Down the Hatch for making my taste buds do a happy dance! Thanks, guys, you've got a special place in my heart (and stomach)! ❤️🤗

Delicious food. For someone who is both vegetarian and gluten intolerant I can find it tricky when dining out - but I could have around half the menu which was incredible. Friendly service, good atmosphere. Attempted to walk in on Friday night and weren't able to get a table as they were fully booked, so we booked for Sunday and are glad we came. I was worried that it would be pretentious, but it was a relaxed and fun atmosphere. I especially enjoyed some of the artwork! Interesting cocktail menu too - a handful of bespoke drinks, very tasty! Highly recommend the sweetcorn 'ribs' and the goan curry!

A lovely vegan restuarant, with a great menu- would highly recommend. While most if the dishes we had were great the mac and cheese was underwhelming and quite dry, although on request more sauce was brought out. Otherwise all the food was delicious! Service was fantastic :)

My bro and I have eaten here a lot and each time is even better than the last. Staff and service are always amazing no matter how busy, and the food is incredible (super generous portions too!). We’ve recommended Down The Hatch to so many friends and even the meat eaters keep going back.

An excellent venue with a wide ranging vegan and vegetarian menu with some very innovative dishes. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and very well presented. The atmosphere was convivial and we weren’t rushed - with plenty of time to peruse the menu and make decisions. The only slight negative was the strong draught coming down the stairs from the outside which made or placement a little chilly. Nevertheless a place to revisit and enjoy some more. This place is NOT suitable for people of limited mobility as the only access is down steps from street level.

Wow! What a treat! A hidden delight in the streets of Liverpool. Huge portions, great value for money, we over ordered but hard not to at such great prices. Staff were super friendly, explained the menu in detail with options. The kebab meat and chips was amazing!

Down the hatch... And back up again. Our party really enjoyed the food, it was really tasty and the service was good. Unfortunately, two of us have food poisoning symptoms ? I liked the dipping sauce that came with the tofu fingers but I feel as if they could be much improved by either frying them for longer or battering them. I feel like the menu should have some descriptions of some of the foods which might not be familiar to a non-vegan, especially for seitan (wheat gluten) which would be a huge no-go for anyone with a gluten intolerance.

Yummy Mushwoom Burger. The door may look shut but they are OPEN during lockdown for pick-ups. You can park just outside on the road, call the number, make an order over the phone and wait on the bench outside until they come out with your food.

The food was ok - VERY stogdy but I believe that's the point ?. Service was good. Unfortunately (this is probably not the fault of the restaurant) but one of my party had an allergic reaction to the Seitan Burger. I understand not everyone does (I was fine for example) but I feel it should've been advertised to us as a caution! No issues with the service or ambience but I can't help but focusing on the reaction she had. Could've turned really bad.

I am a meat eater and i wanted to experience a vegan menu and this restaurant came highly recommended. However, the service was pleasant but waited nearly an hour for our meals after placing the order. The pretend meat sadly lacked flavour and i was sorely disappointed. I should have tried the curry as this looked and smelt great.

I absolutely LOVE this place. I love everything about it. The food is something else, it's literally heaven. It is so so good and not one bad thing about anything. The staff are so so lovely and kind and patient. The place is so clean and tidy. I went there on my birthday and I'm going again later on today with some friends. I would DEFINITELY recommend this place to anyone. This is my new favourite place to eat. Amazing atmosphere too! Nice chilled reggae music. 💜💘💜💘

First time there tonight, but certainly not the last. The food was awesome as was the choice. Brilliant atmosphere, where you're not rushed and actually treated like friends, impeccable service where nothings to much trouble and even the music in the background is great! Prices are extremely reasonable, for the quality and amount of food you receive. Honestly can't wait to return. If you're a vegan or vegetarian, then this is the place to visit.

Great veggie junk food! Amazing service and cool basement venue. HUGE menu, too much choice. I actually wish it was smaller. I wish it was 100% vegan but one step at a time. Massive burgers. Not the best burger I’ve had but it was pretty decent 🍔 Cauliflower wings are delicious - not overly deep fried and good amount of 🌶

This place has some of the best vegan food I've ever had. I particularly recommend the hotdogs and their vegan mac n cheese. Also, the atmosphere is very chilled out and fun. I couldn't recommend this place enough. My only gripe was that the man who greeted us was a bit pushy about us using the test and trace app even after we said we'd prefer to fill out a paper form. Otherwise, brilliant staff and service with a smile.

We were greeted by an eye rolling member of staff on our date night. The staff 'just scan this barcode' Me 'I can't use the barcode function sorry, do you have analogue?' Staff 'May I ask why you won't' Me 'personal reasons' Staff 'it's our policy that you scan the barcode to eat here' Me 'All of the places in the city let you write details on paper why is here different' Staff 'Its just our policy' Me ' Then I'm leaving' since when did waiters get trained in communist China? I was more than happy to sign any paper with details for tracrk and trace. we walked out, we had an awful experience and won't be back if you paid us, won't be recommending to anyone. I've worked in the service industry for years. This waiters tone, demeanor, attitude and pushyness is never ok and to be honest was awful. Avoid.

I don't live in Liverpool anymore but was spending the day there on Sunday. I'd heard how good Down The Hatch was so booked a table for lunch. I read the web site to see what was in place for covid and saw a mask was needed to be worn. I'm exempt from wearing one so I didn't think this would be a problem. On arrival there was no one else there apart from a man at the back. He got up and asked me to put my mask on, I explained I was exempt, he then said I had to scan onto the track and trace app, I didn't have my phone with me and my companion didn't have the app. We were refused entry and told we couldn't eat there. I couldn't believe it! After travelling all that way and looking forward to it so much to be refused entry. Everywhere is struggling at the moment so for DTH to refuse us entry is appalling. The track and trace isn't compulsory. We took our custom elsewhere and we will never return.

Amazing Place to be. I would definitely recommend this place as it is a paradise for the vegetarians and vegans. Its my daily go to place. Food is definitely tasty and worth the money also quantity is sufficient. The girl named Scarlett is very polite, attentive and amazing personality.

Venue was good and nice vibe. Food was pretty average to poor frankly. Cauli bites were soggy in a terrible pickle sauce. The drummers were heavy and came already in too hot a sauce. The chips looks frozen fried with a couple of veggies thrown in. Asked for water along with cocktails and it never arrived. No check back to see if we needed anything and sat there for 10 minutes clearly finished before I had to attract somebody for the bill. Shame as I'd looked forward to this place all week. Don't get me wrong, it's OK and more veggie choice than you'll get anywhere close by. Maybe I just ordered the wrong food but the lucid service should be an easy fix. It wasn't busy.

Place was nice and staff were friendly and helpful. Food was poor though, which was a shame as was looking forward to it. Food was too oily and way to salty. Couldn't finish the meal as felt sick from the amount of salt and oil in it.

We ate here last night before seeing the Liverpool Philharmonic. It was booked by my friend who hadn't considered that the vegan 'junk' food on the menu was incompatible with the dietary requirements of a diabetic on a ketogenic diet who also has a wheat intolerance. Basically the food consists of root vegetables (sugar), above-ground vegetables (less sugar but still sugar), fruit (lots of sugar) and wheat based products such as Seitan. If you aren't diabetic and don't have a wheat intolerance this is fine and certainly no less healthy than any other junk food. Fortunately the staff were wonderful. They really tried their best to accommodate my needs and were very helpful. They advised against certain foods and eventually the chef made me a soya mince dish which was bound together with cheese rather than Seitan. It was served with fries but they also produced a green salad to order. I would recommend this restaurant and the staff on duty last night are to be commended for going above and beyond.

Great service, very friendly staff with excellent customer service. Amazing choice for veggies and vegans. Portions huge especially the baskets of fries! Welcoming place to take little kids too - thanks a lot!

Visited Down the Hatch with my non-vegan friends, we all absolutely loved it. The food was delicious and the service was also great, very friendly people. We had the salt and pepper chickn, made from mushrooms that my non-vegans friends commented they couldn't tell the difference, especially in the flavour. We also had the mac n cheese burger which was amazing and the the loaded fries and tater tots were insane! Recommend Down the Hatch for vegans and non-vegans alike.

Awesome vegan food! the burger with Mac and cheese was a personal favourite. We ordered the cauliflower to start and then 2 topped fries and 2 burgers - 1 fries might have been enough but they were just too good to choose from. Cocktails also amazing and my brother didn't like his (it had coconut in) and they swapped it free of charge. 10/10

I've been here a couple of times now and always enjoy the food. We visited here for my sister's hen party on Saturday and they were so accommodating for our big group. And you can never go wrong with 2 cocktails for £14. Would definitely recommend a visit!

The staff were super friendly, there was an issue with a leak and they handled it brilliantly and offered to move us right away even though it wasn't really affecting us. All the food was delicious, the oyster mushroom salt and peppers chicken wings are a must have! It's always busy and there's a great atmosphere which goes to show the huge appetite there is for vegan and vegetarian food :)

The food was amazing we really enjoyed it. The staff were very attentive and spot on with their recommendations. Such a cute venue really didn't expect it to be so nice. Prices were reasonable for the amount of food and the quality

Best place to eat for vegan food in Liverpool. The portions are massive and food tastes amazing. They have a happy hour lunch deal also that is amazing for the money. Only Monday to Fridays.

Best veggie/vegan food I've ever had! Great cocktails, too. They were busy but managed to fit us in. I'm so glad we managed to eat here during our visit to Liverpool. I would come back to Liverpool just to eat here again!

We came to this restaurant on a Tuesday night. We planned a spontaneous trip out in Liverpool for shopping and decided to go here following good reviews! We went for the vegan calamari which was made from mushrooms, and I had the Zinger Burger with Chicken and Bacon loaded fries. My partner went for the Katsu Burger with 4/20 loaded fries. We had draught beer and coffees which were very nice, and the coffee was very cheap and tasty. The service was attentive enough and left us time without being interrupted. The calamari came first and didn’t disappoint. It tasted like the real thing! They nailed it. The burgers arrived shortly after and was a big portion. I’m glad we didn’t get more! My burger (Zinger) was very good and the loaded fries were very enjoyable. The garlic sauce and sriracha was really nice and the vegan chicken and bacon was perfect. The man working was very helpful and accommodating and we will be back if we are in the area!

Creative vegan burgers and loaded fries. I had the katsu burger with both salt and pepper and kebab fries. Everything was excellent. The staff are warm and knowledgeable and the tunes are great, too. A highly memorable and recommended vegan junk food experience.

Incredible! Enjoyed a vegan burger with some of the best fries I've ever eaten. All the food is vegan, although you can swap out vegan cheese for normal cheese if you'd rather. The cocktails were fab and it's such a relaxed atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

Upset we only spent one day in Liverpool as I would go to this place a million times and probably never tire of it. A tad pricey but 100% worth it. Best vegan fries with stuff on top I’ve ever had.

10/10 incredible food! Amazing chilled atmosphere! Everything you would want from an independent, family owned restaurant. The salt and pepper mushroom wings are a MUST!! Thank you for an incredible meal.

somehow managed to book here unknowing to the fact that the restaurant was entirely vegan; I'm so glad we decided to stick with our decision to come! Despite coming on valentines day we were given a spacious booth seat and the service was immaculate- super quick and attentive. The prices are great for the portion size that you get; the burgers are packed full of a variety of flavours and textures which are absolutely delicious, better than the majority of meat burgers I've had. The menu is the perfect size- will definitely be returning to try the other dishes on offer as it was difficult to choose exactly what I wanted, everything just looked so good! Thanks :)
