Really great tasting food, the Koftas with banana were particularly amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful, lovely ambience and fantastic wine too. Loved it, thank you.

Absolutely fantastic. We had the pleasure of dining at the David Bann Restaurant in Edinburgh whilst visiting for the Fringe festival and it's up there with one of the most memorable parts of the trip. I can not put into words how delicious the food there is. As well as our meals looking, smelling and tasting amazing, we could hear other customers leaving their compliments to the chef on their way out so I think it's a fair assumption that the quality goes across the menu. I had the special spinach and mushroom soup for starters which was maybe the best soup I've ever tasted. Rich, deep, bold creamy deliciousness seasoned to perfection. The sort that made me say ooooo yummy, out load, in public. (Again my compliments to the chef) For mains I had the cauliflower curry which was really good, you could taste the freshness of the ingredients and i found the semolina to be a nice touch too. The portions are a great size, unfortunately so good i was too full for pudding. From what i saw they looked amazing too. We hadn't booked and they were full when we walked in so we were advised to try again in 15 minutes and thankfully we did and were seated, promptly given menu's and water with fresh fruit in (which was a lovely touch) It's elegantly decorated with soft lighting and a relaxed atmosphere. Another thing that stood out was how smooth the service was, everyone worked together and around each other seamlessly and with get efficiency. There are many gluten free and vegan options. I really couldn't recommend this place more. Absolutely everything is top quality and the bill was around 30% less than what we were expecting to pay. My appreciation to everyone at the David Bann Restaurant for an unforgettable meal and dining experience.

I went here for a team dinner. Restaurant was very busy when we went in. Despite this, service was fairly quick. The restaurant is fully vegetarian, and the menu has both vegan and non-gluten options. I had the gnocchi for the starter and the parsnips for the mains; this is the first time I had either of these dishes, but both seemed quite good. For desert I had the chocolate soufflé which was excellent.

Had a 3 course late lunch with no reservation - polenta, risotto variations and chocolate cake and a couple glasses of wine. All very flavorful, filling and well presented. Excellent, quick and friendly service. Exceptional vegan restaurant!

Vegetarian Restaurant. Was here with friends during late summer. We booked just a couple hours before arrival, and the staff was kind enough to accommodate an extra couple seats as we had more friends joining. I didn't really like the dish I ordered, but I'm glad everyone else liked what they had. Service was mostly friendly and accommodating.

Love this restaurant. Amazing vegetarian and vegan food, great wines, cocktails and beers, friendly and efficient staff in a modern yet cosy atmosphere. Been going here for over 20 years and it is consistently good. The dark chocolate souffle is absolutely amazing!

The fennel salad [£7.95] which had raspberries in it was good., as was the soup of the day [£4.25] which was butternut squash with ginger. For the main courses we had the spicy chili [£13.50] and the noodles with tofu [£12.50]. They were healthy but not especially tasty. The chili came with the worst tasting guacamole I’ve ever had and some very delicious chocolate sauce.

FANTASTIC FOOD AND SERVICE We were able to get a table on a Saturday night at around 7:30. I feel that this place would usually be busy, however there were a few cancellations of reservations this night. Firstly, everyone that was working here was friendly and ready to help. They gave great recommendations and were overall fantastic at getting the table what we needed. I was able to try multiple starters which were the homemade humous, the gnocchi, and the kofta. All of them are solid choices however the kofta was pretty amazing and they had a banana chutney that I've never had before but added a nice sweetness to the dish. I got the courgette wraps for mains. The dish is truly made with the pesto and beetroot chickpea purée. You definitely need one or the other in each bite to carry the dish. Also highly recommend if you love some potato. Ordered the desert to share for two people which had a range. All of them were good. Probably would have ordered the apple tart by it self because that was the best for me. Really good!

Used to be the best vegetarian restaurant in Edinburgh, sadly downhill over last few years, relies on past reputation.

You'd be missing out if you didn't come here whilst visiting Edinburgh. The quality is absolutely out of this world. The staff are extremely hospitable and it feels like a luxury experience despite being so fairly priced!

We really enjoyed everything here. The food was delicious and service great too. The menu is a little limited at the moment, understandably, but with plenty of choices still. We look forward to visiting again in future and trying more of the dishes!

We stayed at Edinburgh for a week and on the first night we had dinner at David Bann's, we enjoyed the food so much that we came back before we left the town. Exquisite food, great ingredients. The staff is friendly. We really recommend.

Lots of vegan options. The dishes were interesting and adventurous- which was a nice change from the usual vegan burger and falafel. Lovely helpful staff and really quick service- even though it was a busy Saturday night. I had a mojito mocktail which was delicious.

Had an amazing time at David Bann, all the food was incredible. In particular the ‘Tartlet of smoked cheese and cherry tomatoes’ was possibly my favourite dish I’ve eaten all year (I went in December). The taste was sublime and the delicate smoked cheese came across beautifully. I then had ‘sundried tomato courgette wrap with roasted baby potatoes’, absolutely incredible, with multiple different flavours and textures. The service was impeccable and the waiters were kind and friendly. I highly recommend visiting David Bann, you won’t find a better vegetarian restaurant in Edinburgh.

Food is excellent and highly creative, but the menu descriptions of these highly innovative dishes fails to project to the uninitiated the culinary experience of the food. Which is a great shame are the ideas for the dishes are all great so don't be afraid to try any items on the menu you will be impressed. Table service later in the evening is slower at busy times, but patience and good company help create an enjoyable experience for a group.

A fancy vegetarian restaurant that also offers a variety of vegan food. I took for a starter their Gnocchi with warm rhubarb salad and for the main dish the risotto of asparagus. Presentation-wise the dishes looked beautiful, the starter was light with a taste of lemon and mustered sauce which I really liked and the Gnocchi was soft and felt that it was made fresh at the place, as for the main dish it was quite disappointing. the dish was really bland, the asparagus cooked nicely but It had no unique flavors and didn't have much taste at all. The restaurant itself is big and luxurious looking, the service was kind and I also liked the touch of fruits like strawberries and oranges in the water.

The food was pretty good, and I enjoyed the cauliflower soup, but in my opinion, it was the service that deserved more credits. Our dishes kept getting sent to the next table as one of the waitresses was new. And our dessert took a long time to arrive. None of which bothered us as the waitresses apologized for it and the place was full at that time. However, the restaurant accepted that it was their fault and did not charge us for the dessert. 5/5 would definitely be back #lostwandress

Stumbled upon this gem as it was right by our hotel. Fully vegetarian with most dishes being vegan or able to made vegan. Absolutely loved everything I tried. Lovely restaurant inside with very attentive and polite staff. 100% will return when next in Edinburgh

As you can tell from the stars I really rate David Bann. For me it's the thought that clearly gone into the menu. I think it's as good as some of these Michelin places at a fraction of the cost.

I really liked the restaurant and visited it two times during my stay. I am vegan, therefor I definitely had to try this restaurant. It was possible to even spontanuously still have a dinner on new years eve although i had no reservation. The friendly ppl just fit me in before the evening reservations start and informed me, that I have only an hour to eat. Good service! I enjoyed purely vegan dishes. They serve a small glas of hot soup before you start choosing your meal - very delicious. First visit I ate a very tasty ravioli (!) and vegan Haggis (this one I did not like so much). On my second visit I tried the soup of the day , a very good mushroom risotto AND a marvelous desert with a hot chocolate cake with fluid chocolate inside. Would definitely visit again :)

Visited on 22 Dec 2023 for dinner. Wasn't aware about reservation which is recommended but they do take walk-in. Fine dining vegan restaurant. Cozy ambience. Excellent customer service. Staff offers to store our coat at their restaurant coat cupboard so we can sit comfortably. Served delicious vegan food. Food artistically displayed. Ordered 3 starters, 4 mains and 3 desserts. Price moderate for fine dining; £20 - 30 person. Total amount spent £103++ for 4 persons. Highly recommend Jerusalem artichoke and smoked cheese pudding, and Risotto marinara of mushroom and cannellini beans, and Dark chocolate Soufflés. You need to go down a flight of stairs in order to access the washroom at the basement. Not wheelchair friendly if you need to use the washroom. Pros: Wide varieties vegan options Cons: Everything is great

I decided to check out David Bann on a whim, looking for something a little bit different. The service was very friendly and professional - I had some trouble with my bill but they sorted it out for me very quickly. They offered me some fresh bread and asked whether dairy butter was okay for me, which I thought was a nice touch for the vegans. The food overall was great, the chunky fries starter was very tasty with some really nice sauces, I ordered the tofu stir-fry as my main which was very good; the tofu was cooked perfectly (I felt however that it could have done with some nuts thrown for a little more flavour). Finally I had some tasty red wine and the ice cream dessert - I had the whisky, beetroot, and coconut; which sounds crazy but was actually really good, the vanilla was great too! Overall it was very good - a tad expensive maybe though you do get large portions and I did get 3 courses plus wine and coffee for £30.55, so I thought that was fairly typical. I noticed one review gave a bit of a scathing comment about the decor - I disagree, I thought it was quite nice, sure it might look a little bit tired but its not at all bad. My only other comment is that it could have done with just a little bit of quiet, ambient, background music. I would recommend it for a good veggie/vegan meal!

We came here on a visiting weekend from Ireland and pre booked over the phone the day before. They didn’t seem too happy that we weren’t locals and wouldn’t take a contact number, which I was surprised that they wouldn’t welcome tourists even more so than locals. Besides that, the food here was lovely, not a huge variety but we enjoyed what we had. Wine was absolutely delicious and not too expensive. Good prices overall considering the standard of restaurant! Nice vibe on a busy Friday night and quick table service. Staff could have been a little more friendly and chatty but it was busy so completely understandable. Overall, not a bad experience.

It was really good overall. The service was friendly. Most of the food was really good: I didn't like the mango part of the tofu appetizer, and I love mango. Nice typical restaurant environment.

Would definitely recommend booking in advance, it was full when I visited - perhaps it was just the time of year though. Despite being full, the service was very quick and didn't have to wait long between courses. Food was very good too.

The restaurant is nice inside, and the staff are amazing, however the food could be better. My partner loved her meal which is a plus point, however mine was one big disappointment. The starter was blue cheese in a short crust pastry, however it was more like short bread style biscuit. It didn't really taste of much and was a dry starter. The main was a mushroom pastry wrap with polenta chips and a shallot gravy. The wrap was extremely dry, as were the chips. The so called gravy was tasteless, and really was not enjoyable and could finish it because it was so bad. My partners main course looked nice and she really enjoyed her meal. I also think the price was steep for what you get and for the quality. Personally I think there is better elsewhere and would recommend doing that. This is a place I would not like to go back too.

  • 5/5 David T. 3 years ago on Google
Tasty and inventive food. Great service. The mushroom, Isle of Arran cheese and heather ale strudel had bold, inventive flavours; I loved the texture of the filo, and the favour of the shallot sauce. The quinoa, spinach, pinenuts and sundried tomato courgette wrap was tasty and original. The roasted cauliflower, potato and chickpea curry sounded less adventurous on the menu, but proved a great choice, because the seasoning was fabulous. The deserts were just as fun. I particularly enjoyed the beetroot coconut and whisky ice cream. The service was excellent. The wine list was well chosen, offering both value and originality.

  • 5/5 Chris S. 3 years ago on Google
Neither of us are vegetarian but we choose David Bann based on a previous visit and we weren't disappointed. Every dish was a delight, bursting with flavour, texture and colour - the mushroom strudel was the star for me, with the beetroot pudding coming a close second. Need to loosen my belt to walk home, there'll be no stopping for a kebab on the way back tonight!

Excellent as always. So good to have top notch veggie/vegan food served well in a proper restaurant, not the usual cafe options elsewhere. NB in August 2020 there's a covid related limited menu with 4 options for each course. £17.95 two courses, £22.95 for three.

  • 4/5 Magda G. 3 years ago on Google
Food was good but not excellent, something one could well make for themselves at home. We were happy with our starters (soup of the day and blue cheese tart) as well as with mains (cauliflower curry and potato and swede dauphinoise), but desserts were disappointing (chocolate cake with plum and hot tart with pear and raspberry, both with ice cream). The place itself was fine and service was very good.

Delicious vegetarian food that meet all expectations. Very friendly stuff making the time very pleasant. Even though I am not vegetarian I would recommend it to anyone.

  • 5/5 Scott P. 3 years ago on Google
David Bann serves beautiful food in a relaxed setting. As a recently converted vegetarian (only about 1 year), I can say that this restaurant is proof that you don't need meat to make satisfying and delicious food. The menu typically has 4 or 5 options for starters, mains and deserts but I still struggle so much to choose what to have as it all sounds amazing. Can't recommend enough! We went recently after the lockdown was eased and the staff were very sensible with masks and visors. Hand sanitizer was mandatory upon entry and the tables were well spaced. We were given disposable paper menus, again to make the experience safer.

We visited David Bann Restaurant after reading the excellent reviews it has received online. Our starters were really good - I had the kofta and my partner had the polenta. However, neither of us really enjoyed our mains - I had the aduki bean stew, which although tasted nice, was a far too large a portion and wasn't as interesting as I had hoped. My partner had the baked parsnip pudding, which had an unusual texture and was left half-finished. Overall, the meal was ok, but didn't really meet our (too high?) expectations. Rated 4* instead of 3* because the staff were great, and really accommodating (we were running a bit late because of the traffic on Saturday because of the weather and rugby!).

Probably the best vegetarian(they have half if not more vegan options) restaurant in Edinburgh and one of the best I have visited. It doesn't have much choices but all were really tasty, especially chick pea curry with potatoes and veggies inside, soup was quite good, really loved fresh bread which they offered, toast which came with soup was too much burned for my taste and most of you I would say. Pakora was delicious, only gnocchi was not too tasty. In all a must to visit restaurant, staff really friendly and helpful, good energy around. Restaurant looking beautiful and very clean.

Excellent service, relaxed vibe and wonderful flavour combinations, top marks! We tried every single vegan dish on the menu, and they were all faultless. Peach gnocchi, chickpea kofta, Courgette wraps, cauliflower curry, and the fantastic jelly to wrap up the meal. Lovely wines and cocktails too :) will definitely go back as soon as we're in Edinburgh again.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. As a vegetarian, I was throughly bored with the unimaginative veggie burgers, stuffed peppers or tomato pasta you find offered in most restaurants. David Bann was a whole different league. Each course was well put together, imaginative, tasty, cooked to perfection and filling! £30 for 3 course and a glass of wine was so reasonable considering the quality of the food. The staff was so friendly and accommodating despite us not having a booking. Absolutely gutted I’m not a local otherwise I would be here every week!

Went to celebrate a special birthday. All 3 of us are vegan. Service and food 1st class. Would like to see more vegan options though.

One of my best restaurant experiences in Scotland so far! The food is tasty, well balanced and very presentable. The staff is attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.

I've been meaning to come to this restaurant for quite some time, as I've heard very good things about it. After the covid restrictions ended I finally made it and I wasn't disappointed! I went with a couple of friends, one of whom is a vegan. We all loved the food, (and the drinks, which there was a fine selection of). The service was amazing too, I have a garlic allergy and this was accommodated for, which not all restaurants will do. I highly recommend.

What a fantastic night out, well worth a visit for the vegetarian food. The chick pea curry in the lentil wrap I would highly recommend. And the ice cream was great as well as was the Thistley Cross whiskey cask cider. We will definitely book here again.

Outstanding dinner last night in David Bann restaurant. Delicious vegan options on a fully vegetarian / vegan menu. I had the spicy kofties with a delicious banana chutney to start, with the boys opting for olives, hummus and bread, and a particularly delicious soup. Mains of celeriac and chickpea curry wrap, beetroot and butter bean risotto, tofu noodles. I honestly had no room for dessert, but Carl and Alfie polished off chocolate ice cream and the most amazing ginger ice cream and cake. A lovely evening, great atmosphere and really welcoming staff.

Amazing place. Very attentive and professional staff. Reasonably priced menu and a great choice of dishes for vegetarians. Passed by this place after a long trip on the way to the hotel. Felt nourished and rested after a quick lunch. For evenings - have been advised to make bookings.

Was a bit of a let down. The food was pretty good but the wait for it was long and the portions were small. The Staff and service is amazing though and the atmosphere is romantic and classy.

David Bann came highly recommended by a vegetarian youtuber and while I'm not a vegetarian, I love my vegetables. I was lucky to grab a table of four during our weekend in Edinburgh and the meal was such a delight. I forgot to take photos of the appetizers but they were superb. We had the olives, quinoa, aubergine, and saffron kibbeh, the gnocchi polenta, and the smoked and marinated tofu. My favorite was the tofu and I wish they served it as part of a main because it was perfectly crispy and tender. For the main (only photo from the evening) I had the risotto with asparagus and spinach. The risotto was cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely. I finished every last spoonful and relished every moment. I was satisfied and skipped dessert but my husband had the vegan chocolate ice cream and cleaned his bowl. I will eat here every time I find myself in Edinburgh. The food was THAT good.

A hidden gem! We loved our experience there. The plates are original, very tasty and nicely presented. The staff was very friendly. On top of that the prices are very decent for the quality. I recommend the quinoa courgette wrap and the rhubarb tart !

Soup as starter and zucchini rolls as main dish both as vegan option. Tasted okay

The service was great, Scottish beers only, brilliant, water delivered without asking, plenty of tables, hard to imagine it full up, tasty options similar ingredients for starter and main, the tartlets are made to order, worth the extra wait, toilets up the back and down 3 flights of steps. We had a window seat, 3pm time, sunny outlook but we needed the blind pulled down to stay cool. Enjoyed it all, a change eating vegetarian food.

So very yummy. Fresh mint tea. Gnocchi and polenta appetizers. Cauliflower curry in lentil wrap. Dark chocolate covered orange marmalade and pineapple jelly on lemon cake with coconut sorbet. All real food. All vegan, gluten-free and nut-free.

Really delicious food. Fine dining comfort food. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. I would definitely recommend and would definitely come back. Great to go to a restaurant and not have to order extra sides! Beetroot pudding main dish was amazing, actually all the food was amazing!

The food was really nice. Its great to be in a designated vegetarian restaurant and feel free to order any item. Id recommend making reservations. We did walk in and were accommodated though, with a 2hr window which was no problem. I had the risotto and my daughter got a stir fry. Both were very good. She also got the creme Brule for dessert, which she really liked too. Server was attentive and well informed on the menu. She also offered vegan and gluten free options to some items like the free bread and butter starter.

Great food with great service! The portion sizes were great and very fresh. The flavour of all the dishes was incredible. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely visit again next time we're in Edinburgh.

A delicious reasonably priced meal that was a little bit of luxury but not pretentious. It was so lovely to go to a vegetarian only restaurant that celebrated cuisines from around the world. Service was very attentive, quick and it was really nice to get bread and butter whilst you chose from the menu. We managed to get a table walk in on a Sunday evening but it may be worth booking if you are certain you want to visit. The food was delicious and was carefully curated. It was clear the chefs cared about the food quality and celebrating simple ingredients. The drinks were also lovely. For a non alcoholic drink each, main and dessert each for 2 people the bill was £51 which was very reasonable for the food quality and service. I would recommend visiting here and would certainly visit again. A friend recommended this place and they were very correct.

This restaurant was recommended to my wife and I by our eldest daughter who visited a little while ago. The service was welcoming as was the restaurant. We both had a main and pudding. The food was excellent. This is probably our favourite of all the vegetarian restaurants we have ever been to. We cannot recommend here enough

This place was so good! Fancy but not too fancy. We showed up at 5, but you’ll probably need a reservation as they filled up quick after that! Specially highly recommend the vegan haggis!

Delicious vegan and veggie food - definitely recommend if you want to try something a bit different (e.g. not your standard veggie burger and falafel salad). Also do nice mocktails!

Booked a table for my husbands birthday. The service and the food were brilliant. Lots of choice if you are vegetarian or vegan. At the end of our meal the waiter came over with a birthday sweet and candle which was a nice touch! Would highly recommend

One of my favourite restaurants in the whole world. They have some incredible concepts and manage to make insane gastronomy also feel homey and warm.

👍👍 It's busy, it's tasty and always a nice experience! There is a nice range of flavours infused with spices. We went for breakfast and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The naan breads with sausages, bacon and eggs were delicious. The only comment I would have is it's so busy and noisy insid...
