I stopped by this location on 7/21/20 in search of algae wafers but was distracted by the appalling husbandry on display in the small animal and aquatics departments. Below are descriptions (corresponding in order with the attached photos) of some of the most reprehensible examples of neglect I witnessed at this location. All animals pictured / described in the following cases were on public display and marked for sale. 1. Dwarf hamster displaying classic stereotypical behavior indicative of poor welfare. 2. A deceased mouse lying next to a water dish in a heavily populated display cage. 3. A deceased, emaciated betta showing telltale signs of kidney and liver failure (subcutaneous edema indicative of kidney failure). There were also a number of other bettas who looked like they weren’t far behind this poor soul, including a blue crowntail who was gasping at the bottom of his cup, a red veiltail whose fins were so clamped they looked like they’d been fused together and a baby with advanced fin and body rot. Several more bettas showed physiological signs of chronic environmental and psychological stress including buoyancy issues (floating sideways on the surface of the water), lethargy and unresponsiveness to external stimuli. Of the 50 or so cups containing live bettas on display at this location, accumulated debris were present in almost every cup, a clear result of insufficient maintenance leading to poor water quality and stress. 4. A cichlid with an advanced case of ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis), a parasitic disease that is highly contagious and, if left untreated, can be fatal. At the time this photo was taken the affected fish was housed with at least three other cichlids, all of which were marked as immediately available for purchase. 5. A tank full of dead and dying mollies (which were incorrectly labeled as “yin yang guppies”). Most of the fish appeared to be deceased though there were a few remaining survivors gasping for breathe at the bottom of the tank. 6. A shubunkin goldfish with a large hole in their right operculum. This is animal abuse. Petco needs to get their sh*t together and start treating your animals with a modicum of respect or stop selling live animals. I strongly advice prospective customers to avoid this retailer until corporate can ensure that their company’s employees can and will provide their animals with a bare minimum standard of care.

I forgot the woman's name that work there with the glasses. She was working hard, and I was very upset at the customers, giving her a hard time. She deserves all the credit and love. Thank you whoever you are miss for your help. I had a wonderful experience at the store on my purchase

I loved my Betta Fish I got there. The staff was so helpful and told me exactly what to buy and what I don't need. I always appreciate people who don't try and up sell!

I took my flat-coated retriever and border collie mix for grooming and de-shedding. After reading positive reviews, I chose Diana. I hoped to meet her when I dropped off my dog, but she was with another client. I was a bit uneasy about not meeting her. Our regular groomer at another Petco always, always comes out to receive my dog and greet me so we can discuss my dog's needs. I left and received a text less than two hours later. Upon my return, Diana was free yet made no effort to walk my dog out and meet me to advise how my dog did. She was with no other clients, just having chit chat with a colleague. I checked my dog and had a question about some hair that needed trimming. She came out in an apprehensive manner, and after hearing me out, clarified that would be an additional service. I said okay and opted not to do it. I was put off by her arrogant and dismissive manner. She made derogatory comments about the other Petco I frequent because they've done me the courtesy of trimming a very small patch of hair... which Diana was passionate about that being at a fee. Diana said the other location "is a mess." I was speechless. No worries if you'd like to charge, but the commentary was uncalled for. She was so off-putting and borderline combative, I knew I would never return. On my way home and throughout the night, my dog kept shaking her head in discomfort. I don't know if they applied too much liquid or powder to her ear, but we've not had that issue before. Concerned I called and learned that someone other than Diana bathed my dog. This VERY much upsets me. I am very protective of my dog, she's a working dog, and if this particular location has more than one person touching the dog, they should have informed me. I would have then opted out. The next day (today), I spoke with the manager Enrique and shared specific feedback, especially about Diana's uppity demeanor. I hope it's not contagious if she's running off to manager another store. I'll stick with the other Petco, even if it means a bus transfer.

Big NO unless you don't have other grooming choices. 1. My dog returned with dirty feet as if he had nothing there. Yellow muzzle as well. Some groomers (who I decide to return to) are able to clean them with no problem. 2. Tip was asked before I saw my dog. I was asked to check out and leave a tip before I saw my dog. I left a standard tip. However, with the dirty feet, I wish I could withdraw my tip. 3. My dog was more than happy to see me - a good sign that he's not happy with Petco. My dog usually ignores me when his stay is happy - at hospital, daycare, groomer he likes, etc. But my dog was very eager to meet me at Petco. And the one who seemed to be the manager barely responded to my dog. I believe my dog hates Petco. 4. I feel bad for groomers too. They don't looked experienced and take longer than other groomers to handle my dog. My dog had bath and haircut in 2.5h with an experienced groomer. But today it took 2.5h to just have a bath. They look like apprentices and receive instructions from "manager" often. The cost is not high and they work long hours. I'm afraid they're not paid generously.

Love this location. Please bring back the (Leaps & Bounds Curly Feather Cat Teaser, 36" Length) item to the store. Also please order more Pro-Plan cans (non-dietary for adult) they sell super quick and almost always out of stock. It would be nice to see cat fostering/adopting at this location again (it stopped after covid). Other than that this store is great.

Favorite petco store in NY! I visit here often just to see the selection of new guinea pigs & hamsters ☺️seems to be a very popular pet store as the turnover of the animals is very quick. No dogs or cats for sale here

Assistant Manager, Chris was so helpful, kind, and wonderful with my dog who needed a pair of booties. So grateful he was there to advise us. 5 Stars for Chris and PETCO! Highly recommend.

Exceptionally rude and unhelpful phone etiquette at their store when addressing inquiries. Had an issue with rescheduling the start date of my puppies training classes, and have had to call three separate times to no avail. If I didn't have to call them so many times you can guarantee they would have ripped me off for the $250 I paid, and nobody would have noticed or cared.

Are you looking for a groomer who does the job in Turtle Bay Petco NY? Diana is the one! We’ve been a longtime returning customer with her for years, had no issue with my dog’s bath or grooming. She just does the job every single time no matter what, and today my dog just received a special gift from her, what a surprise! I’m telling you she does the job with care and professional, period.

We got to the store before our pick up order was ready. The staff acknowledged our order and immediately fulfilled the order for us while we're shopping at the store. We truly appreciate her help.

One coupon only can be applied to one checkout. I could've made two purchases if known this ahead. Cost me $7 extra

Decent pet store and very convenient from our apartment for our pup to shop. Not the cleanest of stores, however since it's pet friendly i wouldn't expect it to be. I would suggest more cashiers though, as I waited close to 20 minutes in line to checkout during my most recent trip .

Just spent over $150 of items, cashier was friendly too all other customers before me. bagged all their items but once it was my turn, dude wants to be on his cell phone and had to ask for bags for a 20 pound gravel and bag everything myself. Won't be shopping there anymore.

The 3 stars are for the friendly check out gals but this is The dirtiest Petco I’ve ever been to. Needed some food here and it was convenient. Stopped in the restroom and it was absolutely filthy but when you have to go you have to go.

The workers are nice to me. Helpful. You're stuff is ready when you get there. You can call and ask what's the status on your pick up. I don't have any complaints thus far. My first time raising a puppy and bought a ton of stuff. Learning as I go. Store has helped me with some advice. Thankful for it.

I always have a good experience at this location. The staff seems nice and there is a decent selection of the cat brands that I shop for. On occasion there is low stock, but usually that is not an issue.

I post this review as a token of my gratitude for your services today. ❤️ I took my pup for grooming there today and when I dropped him off I was greeted by Diana. It was my first time taking my pup there for his grooming services and so I was a little nervous at the outcome . I showed Diana a picture of what I was looking for and though she told me she would try the best for the look… the outcome was absolutely perfect!! My pup looks precious and absolutely adorable!!! Diana nailed the haircut and style to perfection! I am so in love with my pups new haircut and Diana is excellent! I will take my pup there from this point on! It’s totally worthed!!! Thank You Petco and Diana!!! ❤️💯

Giving 4 stars for the employees. Came in asking for low protein cat food for my elderly cat and the staff was hunting stuff down like it was their own loved one who was going to starve. Unfortunately they didn't have what I needed in store but was still made to feel like family which isn't common at corporate stores. I believe the person helping was named Alexis and the managers name started with a J, and they both were super awesome. Petco corporate you staff at this store deserve bonuses.

Staff is always friendly and helpful. Store does run out of certain items a lot and I figure that is due to the fact that the store is small but just a bummer sometimes when your trying to run in to pick up supplies last minute. The store is three stories. Basement area is all needs for small animals, fish and reptiles. Ground floor basic cat supplies. 2nd floor I believe is dog supplies but never been up there.

They did an awesome job on my Puppy. I like this location for grooming way better! She (Annabelle) was so gentle and handled him the proper way.

The groomer was VERY RUDE to my dog, pulling directly on my dog's tail and body! My dog was trembling with fear when he saw the groomer! Shop assistants aren't really nice to animals!!!AND VERY RUDE!!! The clerk also adds extra money to the bill without checking with us about the extra charge. And when we confirmed the amount with the shop assistants, they tried to intimidate us!I would tell people I know never to go to petco again because of their VERY DISGUSTING attitude!!!

This Petco always has garbage in front of it. The manager has been made aware and does nothing. Yet it is responsible for cleaning it up. This store has been reported to our city council person.

Great selection but customer service can use some improvements. Paid for shopping bag for 3 items. Cashier places the two smallest in the bag and says the larger item wouldn't fit. She then walked away without offering me a receipt to help another two associates determine whether a fish someobe else purchased was male or female. Meanwhile, all of the items easily fit in the shopping bag which I packed myself.
