I’m not hiker- so this is exhausting for me. But it’s totally worth it. This park is absolutely beautiful. The hike going up, all the way to the top of the mountain is breathtaking, just looking at the view of the trees, watching birds and pure calmness. I suggest going during fall when it’s a bit cooler because summer… will be a sweaty hike! But… when you find the waterfall..it’s swim time. I’ve seen few people bring their picnic basket and bathing suit- and go for swim, eat and pretty much enjoy listening to the water stream. It can crowded but you’ll be fine if you don’t mind people. Expect to spend about half a day going the full hike. And be ready for those stairs. They’re brutal. Dog friendly- but bring a much younger fur baby, because this can be painful for senior dogs! I have one! 😁. We brought her for hike prior to her osteoarthritis and she loves it! Your doggy will love this park!

Really nice state park that has more trails on it than you can hike in a day. I’ve only been once and I hiked the Stone Mountain loop. It was about 10k (I did a little side hike to see the middle and lower falls) and took me about 3.5 hours. I stopped a bunch to enjoy the view and eat a packed lunch. One thing I was not expecting was the amount of stairs! The summit is at some elevation and rather than an inclined trail there are stairs, so be prepared. The view from the top is lovely and the trail along the base runs next to a little stream. Much of the loop is shaded, so that helps in the sun. If you start at the lower parking lot you will be closer to both the summit and the view from ground level. If you start in the upper lot you will be closer to the falls. Both lots are part of the loop, so you can go in either direction from either lot.

Such a great state park! Our GPS brought us to the back entrance, which is much more rustic than the main- gravel road and all that. Once we found the main trailhead, we hiked to the Stone Mountain Falls and viewed the mountain from the cabins in the meadow. Really beautiful.

We were driving to Virginia for a hike and drove by this gem. The falls are beautiful but really geared for a moderate level hiker. Lots of steps which makes it easy for some, but we saw people who we felt would struggle to get back. There is a longer hike to reach the summit that we did not do but may go back for. Great park!

I love this campground! We got campsite 55 loop B. The space between the campsites were good and the scenery is amazing. It had all the hook ups except for dumping the tanks but they did have dump stations. Stone Mountain is only minutes away. We hiked the whole Stone Mountain Loop. We started on the summit side to Hutchinson Homestead, then to Stone Mountain Falls, then back to the Connector Trail to get to our parking. We started around 9am and got done around 1pm. We took our time, rested, enjoyed the view and didn’t rush it. Next time I would pack a small lunch and snacks. The next day we drove up to Widow’s Creek Falls. Prepare to bring bathing suits and slide on the natural water slides. The kids and I had so much fun. We weren’t dressed for it and water was cold but it was a blast! You can spend a good hour or 2 there just playing in the water. I just love this whole area! Thank you Lord for your wonderful creation!

Love everything about camping and hiking here! The campground is beautiful and well maintained. The views from the trails are fabulous! It's the only state park around us with electric/water hookups and a dumping station!

Beautiful trails that traverse alongside streams and lead to the highlight of the hike...a stunning waterfall where you can dip your feet in and feel the crisp, cool, water. The trails are very wooded with fairly level ground and easy walkability...and the sound of the babbling brooks and waterfalls along the way makes this hike quite peaceful. The mountain for which the park gets its name is not super spectacular to see, but I imagine most people visit this park for the falls. Word of caution & encouragement--the climb back up to the parking lot from the falls is a doozie...but I think we'll worth it.

We love this state park. Go camping there every year and enjoy the fishing walking and the peace and quiet. The deer population has died out and not recovered yet but you can see wildlife like turkeys.

Absolutely gorgeous, lots of walking but totally worth it. By lots of walking I mean to get to the bottom of the 200' tall waterfall it is around 300 steps down and 300 steps back up. The Stone Mountain viewing area by the homestead area provided truly stunning views, not to mention we saw several people climbing the rock face while we were there. The homestead and the story of the family that lived in the homestead for many years was pretty interesting. Our favorite was definitely the waterfall.

Hiked the Loop, wolf, cedar trails. Enjoyed very much, beautiful scenery, challenging mountain trail. All trails are well marked and maintained. Clean restrooms in parking areas and maps available. Picnic areas are available, and the park is dog friendly.

This place was absolutely beautiful now I did miss the opportunity to see stone mountain but I did get some great pictures of the nature that it provided. I came here for my mother's wedding this passed weekend, they got married at the church on park grounds and it was a beautiful ceremony! I would recommend visiting if you have not already!.

Grew up 15 minutes from the park. Plenty of available activities. Fishing, hiking, camping, picnic spots, and amazing views are all available. I recommend the Stone Mountain Loop Trail to hikers. Takes about 2.5 hours if you don't stop for the wonderful views at the summit or to take a quick dip at the bottom of the falls. Plenty of white tailed deer to see as well.

I loved this state park. Being from out of state, it's hard to find places that really amaze you and I loved everything about this state park. The stone mountain trail was absolutely gorgeous (about a 4 mile loop) but it was very worth it and the amazing views from the summit and the base. Also would highly recommend going to the cascade waterfall where you can slide down the rocks so bring a bathing suit.

We never knew how much Stone Mountain had to offer. We spent an entire day at Widows Creek Falls & Stone Mountain Falls hiking. It was absolutely beautiful and we plan to go back and take a few other hikes. If you like water falls this is a must see. Just know the Stone Mountain Falls stairs are not easy if you have a hard time climbing - but worth every step.

Absolutely beautiful state park, great for children and couples and families looking to get away for the weekend or season. A beautiful 1-mile hike up to the top leads you to stunning views and connecting with nature. The rangers and campsite are friendly, well taken care of, and they offer awesome events that are engaging for people of all ages. Great job with this amazing park ❤️

Wow, what an amazing park. You feel like you are in so many interesting places all on one hike from the stone mountain sections to the waterfalls and everything in-between. My favorite park in North Carolina now.

👍👍 Discovered this planning a road trip. We were all so glad we stopped. It's one of the more unique covered bridges you will see in this area. The little park surround is cute with a surprise if you back up to take your pic. What first looks like random gear pieces and a tree spell LOVE!
