I enjoy the Shell Factory. It's a unique place. My wife and I took my grandson. They have a nice zoo with rescued animals. We had some surprisingly good pizza for lunch. You can get some great gifts there that you can't find anywhere else.

This place is a dump and a tourist trap. 5 stars if your into junk gift shops and poorly maintained grounds. It's as nice as it smells. Would not eat here.

Solid tourist destination. Something for everyone. Appears to be dog friendly. Besides the shells and Christmas shop, there’s a petting zoo, mini-golf, and a restaurant. Large choice of jewelry. Many places for photo ops. Also was live music at the outdoor space/cafe.

This place is definitely a roadside attraction that's a bit frustrating to deal with. They gave a carousel that's $1 per person, which is fine but I bought tickets and they said they needed more people to run the ride so it would be 5 to 10 minutes. Then after a few more came up to ride, they had us board, but then we waited another 10 minutes for them to actually start the ride since they let people keep filtering in. All the kids were crying from waiting so long for the ride to start!

Every souvenir you could want from a store in Florida and then some. From shells to clothes to jewelry to a camel ride, you can spend time shopping it all. There is a small arcade, a large open restaurant out back and more walking attractions we did not get to. The ice cream is delicious. The location is "tired" looking with limited staff to help...hence the 3-star review.

Affordable family fun! The nature park is our favorite part, you get so close to the animals. My daughter also loved feeding the turtles. The shop is huge and has any she'll you could possibly want.

There is A LOT that you can do here, we spent about 5 hours and only made it through the nature park and mini golf with 7 of us. The nature park was really neat in the sense of seeing a lot animals we don’t normally get to see at zoos in the Midwest. The animals were really active too which was fun. The mini golf is good, not great, but a good time overall. I’m not sure id feel good about paying full price for everything, but the Groupon we got for our visit made it a fantastic deal.

Went with wife at opening, it's a lot to take in at the store. To be honest it's overwhelming, it's like going back in time! It serves it's purpose as there are very many cool trinkets to look at and buy. I bought pink coral! Always wanted some and it was 30% off!! Be prepared to have your eyes be busy, definitely recommend for kids, I bought a Groupon and honestly we didn't even go to nature preserve, it's was just out dated. Again it serves it's purpose we get it, definitely not something for adults to do in their own, the mini golf is definitely not worth paying for, again if you have children it will work. Go to a bigger place if your looking for mini golf honestly.

If you need a filler activity this would be ok but don’t go out of your way to come. This place is tired looking. Animals in “zoo” were kept in small enclosures that were dirty and small. The “arcade” was small and limited. My kids did enjoy the mini golf. Won’t come back.

I had so much fun here. I could have spent hours in the store. It is HUGE. They have shells and t-shirts, home decor, souvenirs, a candy counter, food counter, jewelry a small history museum. Definitely worth the stop!

Very touristy and a bit rundown. I did see some kids really enjoying themselves though. They have a lot of shells and a large selection of your typical tourist gift store type stuff. I did enjoy feeding turtles and large fish at the gazebo across the street though. They seem to also have restaurants and desserts or icecream.

I'm really broken to have to write this, as I have loved this place since I moved to SWFL. But everyone else is telling the truth. The animals are being neglected, bred, forced to fast and euthanized at an alarming rate. I understand elderly or disabled animals can cause costly vet bills, but that's just part of having animals. Won't be back now that Annie is gone. Staff told me it was "just her time" and that she was old and I asked how long they can live in captivity and she paused and told be almost 20yrs. A quick Google search will tell you it could be up to 40 years. So a 16 year old zebra with no grass being mistreated who recently acted aggressive, probably because she's been driven mad,was euthanized because of her price tag in my opinion. And that box they moved the owl to is just not okay. The playground is unsafe, the dinosaur park is just decaying large dinosaur statues, and I know for a fact this isn't new from 2020. Read the other reviews. The enclosures look like maximum prisons. This is downhill for a long time. Try somewhere else, I sure will.

the Shell factory is a very nice place for small kids and families alike. and is a good place to go when you are in town. it's a bit small, but there's a lot here, from goats to alligators. the gift shop is very nice to for kids. and in the wintertime, they can see Santa clause in the Christmas section. it's a bit run down because of the hurricane but i went here before, before the hurricane and its very nice and friendly so if you are into town with your kids, I recommend this place.

Clearly this place is still dealing with some after affects from the hurricane and once it's fully operational I'm sure I could give a better review. I'd give it more but several of the activities that are part of packaging prices aren't in working order, the pricing seemed to be different depending where you went I'm the park to get tickets, you had to go to the ticket window any time you wanted access to a certain activity which was a pain making a few kids walk back and forth across a parking lot to get someone. Bumper boats was alot of fun, loved the nature walk (full of plenty of animals), kids enjoyed the carousel, the store was pretty cool to look through, and the arcade room was neat. The zipline wasn't working, nor was the water wars up and going, the gem mining area wasn't running either so you got a nag of sand and rocks inside to do at home, the little gun shooting thing had some guns that didn't make any noise making it hard to tell if you shot any targets. Oh and you had to put dollars into that to play it and pay at the ticket window to do the hammer thing to ring the bell, went to that window alot. The staff was great and super friendly. They made it such a better experience. The food at the restaurant there was really good. Loved all their dishes. Overall it was a neat place and experience. A ticket to include most of what we did (along with water wars and gem mining that were both closed) was $30. They had another 2 different packages that were 40 and 50 but we couldn't do half the things on there so we didn't get them. I found the tickets to be overpriced for what you got to do. But the kids had a good time and to me that's worth the 3 stars.

This is the best value day out you will ever get! It’s a relaxed, back to nature lovely place to be. Would recommend to anybody. The food at the restaurant is outstanding, the Brisket sandwich was just divine.

This place is so fun for adults and kids. The outdoor zoo is perfect for having something fun to do during covid. Everyone wore masks as asked and people distanced. I’d recommend it for everyone. The stores were clean. (The bathroom wasn’t great but I don’t fault them, people can be gross) We watched an outdoor band while having a drink too. Just a great day all around. Thanks.

Very fun place to get keepsakes! I fell in love with their Christmas space!! Loved seeing all the shellsoutside! And baked goods were great! They offer other things to eat as well. They even had a Small place for kids to play games. From shells, glass, jewelry, kids items, pirate corner, Halloween spot and of course Christmas! So many options! There's even a small military museum and fun kids rides outside! Needs a few updates but definitely a fun spot to shop and see cool things

Their mini zoo/nature walk is incredible. It's perfect for kids. Kids younger than 3 are free. Their variety of animals is diverse enough from farm animals to crocodiles. They even have an area where you are inside a cage with the animals, like peacocks, an iguana, parrot, turtles, etc...

The Shell Factory has seen better days - probably those days were 20-40 years ago. We had higher expectations based on the pictures on their website. If you’re passing by and have some time to kill, stop by. This is not a destination to drive to. I’d probably give it less stars but there are some things we didn’t check out and some people will like the stuff they do have. Don’t buy the Groupon or tickets in advance. Just go and see what you still want to do when you arrive. We went with kids and the highlights were the Merry Go Round ($1 each), feeding the fish, and sitting in the wooden boat in front of the store on the sidewalk. There’s also a fire truck which was fun to see for 5 minutes. We skipped the nature park - I doubt it would compare to the Naples Zoo or the many state parks in the area. There’s a zip line if you’re in to that thing. They have a lot of different things…but none are really amazing things. It’s one of those places you see a sign on the side of the road and you stop thinking it looks like fun and you’re thinking “oh, wait. This isn’t what I though”. They do have a restaurant, outdoor sports bar, and theater which could be interesting but we didn’t come for that. Most of the shops there are closed/abandoned. The abandoned Party House has a sign that there’s a gentleman We also skipped the store. We don’t have interest or need in buying souvenirs.

Kind of thought of it as the world's largest souvenir store, but in a run down building. After wandering the endless isles of Chinese trinkets we were not willing to risk the almost certain disappointment in the nature park area. I can not speak of the food offerings, due to cleanliness concerns we opted to go elsewhere. Basically a waste of your time. The shell cathedral however was impressive...

Look, I'm not a hater that writes negative reviews, but this place is next level sketchy. Very carnival like (without the fun), but most things are either not functioning or look unsafe and very old. The store is full of things nobody actually needs. So if you're into that vibe or just into seeing weird venues, you may enjoy it (or enjoy making fun of it), but I wouldn’t recommend it from my one visit.

We really liked this place, the animals are very well cared for and clean. I recommend that you buy food to give them so they can enjoy it more closely. My children liked it a lot, they had fun and they have many attractions for children.

I’ve always loved this place. I’ve known it since I was about 12 years old and throughout the years I’ve made many memories with friends and family and such never a dull moment. There’s an animal Park area, there’s turtles, koi fish in their giant pond etc etc. There’s a little dog park, a nice restaurant, lots of sightseeing, flea market during the weekends, which is pretty nice and conveniently close by to me. The inside has changed quite a bit but it’s still has its homey vibe. So many shells and sea related items. 🐡🐚🌊. I hope this place never shuts down.😇

This has always been my kids favorite place to visit when we are visiting Fort Myers. It took a little hit from that last hurricane, but it still standing!.. this place is awesome if you like to collect seashells and Beach knick knacks and also has Christmas decorations, a zoo and Museum. And a little outdoor area with zip lining and a few rides.

I will forever Recommend them every time I go there I leave with more and more knowledge they are very educational and helpful they sell some of the best products on the Market At unbelievable prices then their live fish are very healthy and beautiful you couldn’t ask for a better store I’ve been going to these guys for a little under a year now everything in my current tank came from them all these negative reviews are probably due to people that have more issues with water conditions than actual fish I have a Arrawanna angelfish parrot Cichlid and some tetras That all came from them have never had a fish death please shop with them you won’t regret it

Excellent all around place. Customer for years and always helpful. Including home help with my 120 gallon tank while recovering from massive surgery over 5+ years ago. In other words great customer service. I must say to this day from over 6 years of experience this family owned business is A++. They spent a month recently on hand and explaining to my 10yr old son the proper steps of his new 60 gallon fresh water tank. My son looks forward as to when we are making our weekly trip. It shows the respect they have for customers of all age and choices of style. Again thanks for making my son's days brighter every time.

Past 8 months been buying fish with no problem. 3 weeks ago bought 6 neons and they were all dead in 2 days. Tested the water and it was perfect. No problem with the other fish. Even bought more neons at Petco and everything is fine. Went there today to buy more fish and told him the problem I had. Neons were $2.99 so I asked him if I could have a store credit and let me have 3 tetras at $1.99 for free. He wouldn't give me any credit for the dead fish. First time I ever asked anybody for a credit for dead fish. I was very surprised and told him he won't see me in the store again. He won the battle but lost the war. Lost a good customer over $6. The store is also about 20 miles from our house. He has sick fish and doesn't back them.

We stopped here as a midway trip halfway to our true destination. It was an absolute gem. Our girls loved the merry-go-round and our boy loved the Nature Park. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be and it wasn't terribly expensive. There were plenty on animals to see. We bought feed for the animals but we weren't sure when to feed or save the food for another animal. There were no signs or maps. The lady just told us to feed the ducks and goats. We had no idea about the camel or donkeys. Also, the cups they sell with straw are kinda a waste. Nothing eats the straw. They would rather have the pellets. Just a heads up. All in all it was a pretty cool find. 4 out of 5 because the lack of signage or guide. But still worth it!

If you never visited The Shell Factory you really should consider it. I bet it hasn't changed much in 50 years. The gift shop is more like a museum. We went through the zoo. Expected a 6/10 and it was a solid 7.5. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Great place to take kids. Animal variety was unique and fun. Bumper boats were hurt but fine. Kids loved the carousel. Fun to see so many turtles. Their process for checking in and buying tickets is way too complicated but appreciated the a la carte menu so you don’t have to buy what you don’t want to do. Waited forever for our food at the restaurant.

Don't waste your money with mini golf. Course is very beat up and outdated. Astroturf was missing and peeling up in multiple spots.

This is a must stop place if visiting with kids. Lots of souvenirs. There is a little bit for everyone.

My family was very disappointed on this place. It reminded us of a VERY low budget "South of the Border". I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

It has a lot if years of wear and it shows but it is a great place to take the kids very reasonably priced. They have animals and a store big enough to get lost in.

Great price for what you get.

The Wednesday entertainment at the restaurant bar was great! Seen my red wings shirt and called me out then did a bunch of Motown hits!

Great place thats needs more local support. Don't forget to look for the fudge you won't regret it.

  • 3/5 Rhonda S. 3 years ago on Google
I was disappointed this trip. It has went down over the years. The fudge shop was just like it was. Delucious as usual. The outdoor bar needs work and the bartenders need to learn how to mix daquiris.yuk!

Historic Florida roadside Attraction, with animals, some rides, and a combination gift shop and museum that you can easily get lost in.

The gumbo festival was too crowded. Many people together without masks. Many want a bee gumbo people. It's not gumbo without rue and rice with sausage and chicken.

So much to see & do here. Biggest souvenir shop ever. Loved the Christmas music in July. A massive outdoor bar for parents. Ziplined. Fed the turtles & fish. Just a very cool place, right off the highway.

Cool place to go to. We did a round of mini-golf and checked out the animals. Fed the birds and gators!

  • 5/5 Rachael C. 2 years ago on Google
Highly recommend if looking for something to do in the area. They have a huge store with plenty of stuff to see as well as a zoo. It has plenty of reptiles and animals to see. My boys loved the gaters although the camel may be my favorite!

I am not a tourist but I really enjoyed visiting the Shell Factory. I knew this place accidentally. My friends told me to wait for her in front of the Shell Factory. When I was waiting, I saw that it had USPS store insides the building, so I came inside and learnt that it was a huge store. Besides the various types of shells, visitors can also buy clothes, souvenirs, toys for kids, fresh ice-creams, special chocolates. The clothes are little bit expensive but high quality. The zoo is at the back of the building. It can be great place for children, but I prefer a real zoo.

I love this place and have been going since I was a kid. The nature park is great fun for the whole family and there is a ton to check out on the inside of the place to. Great place to take the kids.

Weekday visit was fantastic. Family all enjoyed the Nature Park and the store. A great time by all was had.

I am not sure how they survive. The store closes at 6. A nice new outside bar closes at 8! Yes..you heard me. 8. With mobile home parks across the street! It would be a great place for date night for sure. A petting zoo..feed the alligators..but that closes at 5. Squeezes out local families that work. Evening miniature golf after work? Bumper boats. Nope. Closes at 5. There is a pizza place in there but closes at 6 with no delivery. Let me run the place if they want reduced hours..2p-10p. Tourists are not there during the day..they are at the beach. This is more of a lunch to evening place with the new theater and they are missing the mark.

Coming from Toledo, Ohio. We went in the summer '20 and this place was tons of fun 😊. The animals were all very active, the staff was pleasant and informative and the prices were great too. Going back to Fort Myers in a few months and going straight to the Shell Factory😁

My daughter loved to feed the fish, turtles and birds. Also there are places where you can eat and of course do a lot of shopping for souvenirs.

We went to the Shell Factory for a class field trip. There were a lot of animals to see, a reptile house, aviary, petting zoo, playground and cool dinosaur park with giant dino statues. There's also a carousel and other amusements but that wasn't included in the field trip.

We really enjoyed visiting this place. The little zoo was amazing to walk through. You can feed some of the animals. They have the coolest camel named Goofy.

This place is pretty neat. It was on the way to another destination but looked cool so we made a pit stop. Glad we did because there were some interesting shells, megladon teeth, and other sea fossils. They had a huge gift shop/store, they had parrots and other exotic animals to interact with, and cute photo props.

Love this place! We stumbled on it during a vacation and now we go every time we come down! Kids love the little zoo, with some great animals and we usually hit the mini golf and souvenir shop too. Staff is friendly and have always treated us very well. Definitely worth adding to your sight seeing list!

Nice flea market with mainly antique items ranging from coins and memorabilia to kitchen wear. The animal side i did not visit but if its anything like the bull in the cage I will pass. Nice lake full of fish and turtles that you can feed for a quarter. Place looks a but run down needs a little TLC.

Took our granddaughters, ages 2 and 4. They had a great time at the nature park and a woman named Lynn (I think), was very informative and went out of her way to show my granddaughter all the birds. We then had dinner at the restaurant with a side of shopping.

Old but good, the Saturday markets are worth a walk and huge, it's kitchy and old so worth a visit. The animal park is amazing. Please be kind to this place it's very old and their working with what they have and are always trying to update. Amazing ice cream and a great small arcade.

  • 1/5 Kat T. 9 months ago on Google
This place offers great potential for a family day out, but unfortunately, our experience with the animal exhibits left us disheartened. The animals appeared miserable, confined to small cages, with the camel even resorting to repetitive pacing due to its cramped enclosure. Despite the scorching midday heat, they did provide alternative activities like mini golf, which offered some respite in the shade. While we enjoyed the mini golf, we couldn't help but feel concerned for the animals and hope that they are either given more spacious enclosures or relocated to a larger facility. Although residential fans were installed near the cages, the intense heat persisted, and it was evident that some animals had insufficient access to shade.

Great place to spend time with or without kids. The shell factory is the biggest gift store in the USA. Walk true and see if you see something. Millions of different shells. Outside a Restaurant. Great food

We have a yearly pass because this place is so special! We go a few times a year for the past 11 or 12 years. The volunteers are all so nice + work so hard to take care of the animals and make it an awesome experience. We hope to see this place get the TLC it needs to get back after Hurricane Ian.

Five stars and a thumbs up. Kudos to the staff. Everything about this place is superb. After recently retiring and moving to CC from NY, this place is one of my favorite finds. It’s like a throwback from my childhood and has something for everyone. Well done, Shell Factory and staff for a fabulous effort to recover from Ian. I will be back!!

I'm glad the shell factory was open on my birthday. It had been at least a decade since I had been there. A lot has changed but I'm so glad they stayed open. It's the only place in the world I feel like a kid again.

My family stopped in on our visit to Florida. Staff was friendly. There's a large variety of different shells to choose from on top of many other things. They had a fudge store and an ice cream shop that did a good job at making our shaked with any of the flavors of ice cream you could choose from. Great place to shop for souvenirs.

Many different animals to see. They had a petting zoo, reptile section, different birds, beautiful turtles and fishes to feed. They have a Zipliner and a gift shop at the end. Must arrive early in order to be able to feed the other animals. Plenty of parking and an outdoor place to eat.

  • 4/5 A. Z. 4 months ago on Google
This is a great example of Old Florida. The animals are the star. Very nice staff who are working hard to make the best of damage from Ian. An information desk or guide of sorts would be a nice addition here. There is a lot to see: loose shells and Shell gifts, Christmas shop, animal trail, where many of the animals are rescues. It's kind of kitschy but a reasonably priced adventure. The open air bar making BBQ had entertainment looked interesting, and the huge smoker smells wonderful. If you're expecting Disney, this is not the place for you.
