My very first Opera. This is a MUST experience! The grandeur of being in Lincoln Center entering the Metropolitan Opera House going through the hall to your seat and just taken in the magnificent opera theater is breath taken. This is not like any place I have ever seen. I was seated in the Grand Tier on the mid left third row and had an excellent view of the stage. In the first ten rows are no seats this area has the complete full live Orchestra. We went to see Porgy and Bess (in English) I loved the show. There are at least 75+ actors on stage. I was amazed. The scenes change throughout the show. At first I couldn't really understand the vocals then I realized there is a subtitles monitor in front of every seat that is in different languages. Once I began using this I was able to understand and then be blown away completely into this amazing opera. I definitely will return again. Also my son who took me to see the show loved it as well. If you like Broadway Musicals then you will love Metropolitan Opera House.

What an incredible and elevated experience! I consider myself fortunate to have attended a ballet premiere at the stunning Metropolitan Opera. It was a truly elegant and elevated experience. Being in a place like this on such a special occasion made me feel exceptionally privileged, witnessing one of the most extraordinary forms of human art. Dressing up and mingling with the other guests added to the fancy atmosphere, which was a delightful change from my everyday routine. I must admit, it was also the place where I bought the most expensive glass of wine in New York City – a whopping $21 per glass! I kind of knew what I was getting myself into, but sometimes you have to be in the moments a splurge a little for the experience. As for the building itself - it is stunning, with its striking and captivating design. Seeing the gigantic concrete arches gave me a glimpse of what awaits inside. And I was not wrong expecting something extraordinary! The building is interwoven with art, paintings, murals and statues but the lavish red carpet and spectacular chandeliers were something I did not expect. at least not to this extent. It is classy, fancy, luxurious and I loved every bit of it! The auditorium is grandiose, seats are comfortable, acoustics could not be better and the gold leaf covered domed petal-shaped ceiling is just amazing to look at. . Sitting on the balcony has been perfect, offering great unobstructed views, however I would recommend, if seeing a performance such as a ballet, to sit closer to the stage to get more details and to fully appreciate actors and see their facial expression and body language. Place that deserves more than just one visit! Visited in June 2023.

No kidding, coming to the Metropolitan Opera House was on my bucket list of things to do before I die. I bought my ticket several months in advance (the Grand Tier has a good balance of acoustics + view + price). The performance was absolutely marvelous! During the intermission it's difficult to get a drink unless you get there early, I really enjoyed standing on the terrace looking at all the opera goers and conversing with friends.

I have missed just one Opera since reopen after quarantine. The scenographer always amazes me, the details, the best use of space and lights... Opera singers are really actors/actresses, some voices have caused me goosebumps... Finally, go minutes before it starts so you get better price.

The whole Lincoln Center complex is an architectural masterpiece but god, the Opera House is one of the most beautiful and elegant places I’ve ever visited. The design is brilliant. The foyer is spacious, airy and beautiful and the levels seamlessly connected. The theater is beautiful and spacious. The seats are comfortable and the seat subtitle feature is very convenient. We had desert at the restaurant in one of the intermissions and it was great but expensive. Overall a great experience.

Gorgeous opera house, known to be a top 10 in the world. Modern architecture with beautiful light fixtures. Clear view of the stage from any seat in Orchestra. No dress code, but many people are dressed up. Fun night.

Excellent acoustics, luxurious seating, at least in the orchestra, and even little translation screens at every seat. It's as luxurious as u might expect. But beware they r checking your vaccination status at the door, and a mask is required at all times.

I chose the Parterre Box 10 front row for my first opera here. I wanted to be able to see the fabulous puppets and costumes of The Magic Flute but I also wanted a good acoustical experience. My expectations were surpassed!

One of the bigger opera houses I have been to. There is a little sacrifice on the acoustics with this size but this is all made up by the grandiose productions allowed by such a large stage and venue. Nabucco, the β€œJewish” opera, is what I saw here and I was impressed at the set pieces and at some of the arias by performers. Overall I would like to see another production to make a definite rating on this place β€” but from this visit, I can tell I will be coming back.

I must go if you're in NYC, a beautiful building, a friendly, super helpful staff. Not to mention an amazing performance. We went to see 'Dead Man Walking' and it was incredible, such talent and voices!!

An iconic opera venue. Went to see Carmen, a wonderful performance. The photo below is from Balcony level, decent view and sound. The MET is steeped in history and tradition, arrive early to have time to explore! Downstairs is a little history exhibit. There's bars on a few of the levels, as well as a full service restaurant that you can actually eat at (with reservation ahead of time) during some intermission. The bars can get VERY busy, apparently there is a way to pre-order drinks for pickup during the intermission. Make sure you aren't late to return to your seat or they won't let you back in! I highly recommend seeing a show live in person here at least once, it was an unforgettable experience.

We have seen two operas here now; Florencia en el Amazonas and Madama Butterfly. It's an amazing experience. Even if you get the family circle (which is what we do) go! The productions are incredible and one day I'll be able to afford great orchestra seats! But for now, I'll settle for row J in the family circle! Ha ha

Very grand opera house. It is pretty big! We were able to get last minute tickets from the box office around 20 minutes before the start time which was great. They were helpful in choosing the right price band. There is a bar / restaurant with a terrace, however this can get pretty crowded during the interval. Overall really nice!

Beautiful building; an evening of civility. World-class musicians. Seats and carpets appear to be in good condition. Good range of fair pricing to suit all tastes. Difficult to fault.

Stunning opera house with gorgeous red carpets and incredible lighting. We saw the American Ballet Theatre perform. Seats were great- we were on the left, floor. Orchestra was fantastic and the sound was perfect. Water stations available. We were required to wear our mask during the show.

My first time at the Opera, it was amazing and it brought happy tears to my eyes. I certainly don't understand the songs that were sung but on the seat in front of you they have a small teleprompter with the words. That was perfect! ⭐⭐⭐

Such an iconic venue. The Parterre box seats were comfortable and offered a fabulous vantage point. Also appreciated the private vestibule each box section offered - avoiding the need to check your coat altogether. The performance (The Magic Flute) was whimsical and visually engaging. It was lovely to experience such an epic aria composed by Mozart. Will definitely return!

Built after a poor Puerto Rican neighborhood was condemned in the 1960s, the Metropolitan Opera House serves a wealthy, mostly white, Upper West Side. The very last artistic endeavor in the former San Juan Hill neighborhood was the filming of West Side Story in 1961. Expensive clothes are the norm for a night at the opera. Opera lovers dress to the nines. The lobby chandeliers have that 'spiky' look that was popular in the 1960s. They were donated by Austria. Architect Wallace Harrison designed the grand hall and its interior balconies, with their gold leaf ceilings. The house seats 3,850. Too big for even the loudest voices, the house has usually used microphones. A friend took me to Tannhauser there in December 2023. The acoustics are great! The 'entry of the nobles' scene was awesome. Post horns faced the audience, announcing the arrivals of the royalty and merchants. They streamed in wearing richly fabulous robes, hats, capes, and other gear. Compliments to the wardrobe department for making the show that much more splendid!

Always a great time here! An establishment that is beautifully taken care of. The orchestra was marvelous! The singers and actors were great! The show was a holiday show, my niece loved it and so did we.

Outstanding performance of the Verdi Opera Ballo in Maschera! The interior needs some renovation and updates. A little annoying, that some would clap and shout bravo after every scene. It disrupts the flow of the music and singing and must be hard on the orchestra and the cast.

It's literally fabulous! (although some areas could do with new carpeting, but it's fine). Beautiful, dramatic place with rising chandeliers and the most awesome curtain in the world! Grand tier restaurant provides Gourmet food with great service. Performances are world class, breathtaking. Go.

We went to see The Life & Times of Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) on Friday night at 8pm. Wonderful, wonderful performances! Loved the addition of choreography, making the performance more enriching. I will say that as magnificent as the costumes, vocals, orchestra (phenomenal score!), and staging, the beauty of seeing a strong black cast and conductor, this was too long. Three hrs could've been condensed to two or have all performances start at 7pm instead of 8. A lot of gorgeous people in the audience during our visit, Legendary Jazz musician George Lewis, Renowned Broadway star Andre De Shields, Incredible Vocal Coach Cheryl Porter. Those sitings were definitely added highlights.

Spending 4 days in NYC and the first night we spent at the Opera seeing Idomeneo. Sitting in the Grand Tier, the theatre is gorgeous with red velvet and gold, beautiful lights, and translation of the lyrics discreetly in front of you. The performers are the stars there though and they all brought the story to life, each voice exemplifying their character and bringing their emotion to life.

Came here for a field trip, already a bad start. First half of Romeo and Juliet was beautiful! Intermission comes.. our lunches are gone plus a bunch of our students VALUBLE items. Person "watching" the bags said they saw nothing? A girl lost her 60 dollar cup, might not seem like a big deal but this trip was 45 dollars so that's at least 100 dollars in the drain for an opera. The worker mocked the girl intending it wasn't a big deal which i still don't understand?? Apparently some fourth graders took our food? They said they'd " be in contact with the school " sure!! Since they lost our lunches the people in charge of the trip had to go out of the opera and spend their own money on food for everyone because the place only gave us granola bars ( peanut allergies someone was airborne). When some girls try to go back into the opera after eating the food that the teacher got, they wouldn't let us back in even though it was their fault we had to leave !! Crazy. Of course a lot of this could've been avoided if the lady " helping" us was more organized and showed at least a little kindness but alright! Show was amazing wish we got to see the rest of it though, really hope they compensate us because we paid 45 dollars to not see the opera!! 🫢 But place was beautiful all things aside!
